>Иван Васильевич меняет профессию (Ivan Vasilievich Changes His Profession) (1973)
Also known as Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future, this is a highly rated Soviet comedy from the same director who did The Diamond Arm, another extremely famous and approved comedy from the Soviet Union (I will get around to watching this one day).

Plot's about a scientist who creates a time machine. He accidentally brings Ivan the Terrible into present day Russia and sends a thief and his landlord, Ivan, back in time to the time of Ivan the Terrible. What with the landlord and Ivan the Terrible playing the same actor (and you may recognize him from Kin-dza-dza!), you can imagine the antics that follow (and Soviet Union commentary).

This one is certainly funny, but it wasn't my cup of tea. It has a general plot that we follow (as noted above), but it still feels all over the place and not cohesive. Some "sketches" were funnier than others, and some moments felt like they dragged on beyond what they should have. It has a prominent seat as a Soviet Union comedy, so I'd recommend it on that merit only, though the opening scene will have you laughing.

>The Court Jester (1955)
Another comedy, now coming out of the U.S.A. This one is a musical, but not insufferably so.

This one follows a Robin Hood-esque group trying to protect the true king of England, just a baby. A carnival entertainer, helping the group, infiltrates the castle and shenanigans ensue.

I was pleasantly surprised with this one, with fewer musical numbers than I expected and all which seemed to fall into place very well. It's also a misunderstandings comedy that works well for its set-up. The ending is rushed and I'd say the first 2/3rds of the movie are better than the final bit (the ending is very rushed). Worth a shot if you like King Arthur era films and chuckle humor.

>Slacker (1990)
A classic for its time and revered among indie circles, I never wanted to watch it. It focused on DA YOUT of the early 90s, which, as you can imagine, meant listening to young adults tell me why the proletariat were being put down (this may be your parents' generation, fellas). In a misguided moment, I checked it out.

The movie is a selection of little narratives of different people in Austin, Texas. For the most part, we focus on young adults, but there are the occasional kid and older folk (including an anarchist praising Charles Whitman, while getting a campaign poster of Ron Paul in the back. Trippy). The general connection between the lot is a passing by with the camera.

This screams low-budget indie movie. The acting is wooden, the cinematography is lackluster, and the Marxist rhetoric is prominent. But for what it was worth, it did a good job. It wasn't trying to be anything than "in the moment", and it was successful at that. It also had some funny moments, like the poster's character (who is a woman; I always thought it was a man) talking about selling a pube from Madonna. It definitely defines a time in American history and made me feel sad that we don't live in simpler times (and believe that socialism is going to solve all problems). Youth is wasted on the young: the movie.

General David Lynch thread as well, but mostly Twin Peaks.

Halfway through Season 2, this is alright. The series feels like the most Lynch could get away with on network television. Enough weird shit going on to keep me engaged but far too much soap drama for my liking, there's 4 concurrent love triangles right now still counting Leo since he'll probably wake up.
Big pros are Dale Cooper, the One Armed Man and the visions Madeleine was getting a the start of the season. I assume there's more of the Giant and Black Lodge coming later in the season. Log Lady is neat, as is trying to figure out what the fuck Rosenfield's problem is. Hoping the Triad subplot goes somewhere soon.
Cons: Soap drama as mentioned. Actors for James, Bobby and Josie are a bit shite. Pace is slow, a great deal happened in the first and last episodes of season 1 with maybe another 4 episodes of that worth in the rest of the season. I assume network serials were paced like that at the time. Audrey is a strange and annoying character. Not out of place, but I don't care for here character I mean, she looks great in those skirts or here subplots.
I expected more backward talking midgets and premonitions from coffee cups than I've been getting. Such is what it had to be I suppose, but still wonder what the original script would have been like.

Season 2 is the low point, save for a few episodes here and there. Season 3 is much better. You just have to slog through S2 to get to it.
I started it a while ago, but I have yet to finish it. I really like that feeling of discomfort that Lynch will put into his work. That scene with Leland bawling as he dances to swing music comes to mind. His use of time in that regard is also excellent. Think back to the scene where Cooper is shot in his hotel room. FOR FUCKS SAKE GO GET HELP YOU STUPID OLD MAN.

I recently re-watched season one and two of Twin Peaks. This is my second complete re-watching of the series, though I have re-watched season one and some of season two prior to this. I gotta say, season one and up until the reveal in season two are both great. The middle of season two when Lynch left really drove me up the wall. It became pretty insufferable and, frankly, I wish the season had been shorter. Audrey losing her virginity to some random fuckboy is something I can't even believe they did. Annie really feels very void in her personality, and if you tell me it's because she was in a convent and suffers from psychological distress, it just doesn't work for me. I've started season three, but it was so dark and depressing, I couldn't get into it (even though that may be the point). I will try to take another gander in the future, but I'm pretty sure I'll be running that shit at 3x the speed.

>How Lynch is Twin Peaks? Give free rein, what do you think he would have changed?
Number one is that they wouldn't have revealed the superficial killer to be Leland. As the international pilot shows, it wasn't necessarily supposed to go that route. Number two, Lynch was a lot more explicit in his themes than he normally is, especially when the show was re-released with the log lady giving you a little intro at the beginning of each episode. If executives hadn't been breathing down hi

Now that we finally finished the series for TV night, I'd like to give my unsolicited opinions.
As a whole, I don't like it. The pacing is way too slow, for every question the plot answers it adds another 2-3 questions, after Laura's murderer is revealed in Season 2 at the behest of hollyjew execs the plot doesn't know what the fuck to do, and season 3 is a gigantic slog to get through. Regarding FWWM, if your movie needs a tutorial at the start for how to interpret it, you've made a fatal mistake. I enjoyed it up through the start of season 2, but it has tons of plot points that never go anywhere or are just dropped/ignored entirely. I know that the network was really pressuring Lynch to make it more mainstream in season 2, but I also wish he'd just take the time to explain some of the shit he was throwing at us for the past year but knowing Lynch that would never ever happen.
Season 3 was a mess and I don't like it. It started as nine episodes but HBO then decided to extend it to eighteen. It seems like he decided to stretch those nine episodes across eighteen of them instead of adding meaningful content, and it really shows. The retarded dougie arc goes on for way too fucking long. We get it, he got out of the lodge but in an incomplete state but it's not until the 16th fucking episode when he finally becomes whole again. I can only take Coop acting like a retard for so long. The near h
