There's actually a thread that runs between The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, The Giant Behemoth, Godzilla, & Gorgo.
In fact Beast, Behemoth, and Gorgo were directed by the same man, Eugène Lourié. You could almost consider Behemoth to be a sort of semi remake of Beast. Gorgo is as well to a lesser extent, but by that point Godzilla had become a big thing and had "cross pollinated" back to the west. Of course Godzilla itself was strongly inspired by The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.
Spoiler: The reason the reason Gorgo and his mother survive the movie is because Lourié's daughter cried when she saw the Behemoth die at the end. So he decided to make the monsters live this time.
The original script for the movie that became The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms was apparently an accidental case or plagiarism of a Ray Bradbury story. Immediately after this was discovered, by Bradbury none the less who had been asked to help punch up the script, the rights and title to the story were purchased to keep everything on the up and up. I suppose this technically makes Bradbury the God-uncle of the kaiju genera, or something like that.
