I know that there's at least a few of you here besides me that love this stuff and sleepy /vhs/ was missing a place to discuss it.
Because there's crossover lets say Sentai goes here too.

What is everyone's favorite types of martial arts movies?

BMN streamed an actually good (as in 80% on RT good) wuxia film by accident, Duel to the Death. It's insane from start to finish and I love it.

I'm trying to compile a list of different kung fu movie "fads" I suppose you would call them. The Bronzemen sequence wasn't that hard but I'm running into difficulty cataloguing all the movies featuring guillotines.
Trying to list all the Brucesploitation is probably a near impossibility.

Bronzemen
>18 Bronzemen
>Return of the 18 Bronzemen
>The Blazing Temple
>18 Bronze Girls of Shaolin
>18 Shaolin Golden Boys
>Rivals of Silver Fox
>The Best of Shaolin Kung Fu
>Bruce and the Shaolin Bronzemen
<18 Gold Destroyers (Godfrey Ho)
(The two bolded movies are in direct continuity with each other, where as the rest are basically conceptual "sequels" that just feature bronze metallic coated martial artists.

Flying Guillotine
>The Flying Guillotine
>Palace Carnage
>Fatal Flying Guillotines
>One Armed Boxer
>Master of the Flying Guillotine
>The Guillotines
(This is the loose Flying Guillotine sequence. One Armed Boxer doesn't feature a guillotine but it is a direct prequel to Master so I'm including it. The Guillotines is either a remake or it's suppose to be basically Ɐ Flying Guillotine)
movies featuring guillotine like weapons
>Bandits, Prostitutes, and Silver
>The Golden Mask? (not sure about if this one should count)
>Fourth Madam Lu Thrashes the Flying Guillotine (Not actually seen it but it is the earliest movie listed on IMDB tagged with "flying guillotine", which surprised me because I thought the concept was largely created whole cloth for The Flying Guillotine.)
...

This is all I've got so far. Thankfully I've discovered, just as I'm typing this up in fact, that a hkdmb page on flying guillotines exists. I'm still going to have to at minimum search out and skim through those movies to see if it's accurately tagged or if it's notable enough to include.

I forgot to mention a couple weeks ago, the original name for Shaolin Invincible Sticks is Gun Wang i.e King of Sticks.

Talk about being typecast. This guy pretty much played the exact same character through the whole second half of his career. Right down to the same costume.
He was in almost every HK jiangshi movie from the mid 80s till his death in the late 90s.

This is Dy Saveth, the star of Snake Girl and Snake Girl Drops In as well as many other Cambodian movies, most of which probably don't exist anymore. She's a huge star in Cambodia. She barely made it out, of Cambodia with the director and their children before the Khmer Rouge purged everyone.

In case anyone's wondering about the sword, they're used irl as Taoist charms. They're made mostly from Qing dynasty era cash coins.

I think he's stabbing her and snakes are coming out. There's several of these movies where the heroine or the 1st heroine anyway gets impregnated by a supernatural snake and gives birth to a half human half snake child. So it makes sense.
I was actually hoping to put blam on the trail of several of these movies since they're so hard to find but my sleep schedule has been off for the past several movie nights and I've passed out before or just as he's come into chat. I'm kind of curious about this, what is presumably, a garuda movie.

When you don't speak khmer, looking for these movies is a battle. As I'm sure you're aware, The Snake Girl (1973) is up on the Wu Tang Collection's youtube page (though it is that 90-minute version that seems to be the only one that exists). Mubi has The Snake Man advertised. Thanks streaming services for saying you have a movie in your database that you don't perpetually have available to paying customers.

I fear that cut or poor Taiwanese, HK, or Thai prints might be a reoccurring pattern here due to that whole Pol Pot situation that happened. Even then it would still good to have a copy of what ever can be found. For the historical value if nothing else.
>Thanks streaming services for saying you have a movie in your database that you don't perpetually have available to paying customers.
I have been running into that over and over recently and I hate it.

I don't remember exactly because I was searching for several movies but every time Mubi said it had them and then I'd click on the page and it was like "LMAO just kidding we don't have that shit." Over and over.

ON THE PLUS SIDE THOUGH I came across an interesting couple of articles on flying guillotine movies that helps to straighten out some of the timeline. I also picked up this little tidbit that explains why the guillotine weapons in the two new Flying Guillotine movies look so weird.

That was quite an interesting read (albeit the guy using the word "monies" did make me laugh). The One-Armed Boxer versus the Triad would have made an interesting movie.

The whole jiangshi genera in oddly started rather late in HK and Taiwanese cinema. While there were a few outliers in the 70s the vast majority were only made after the mid 80s after the popular Mr. Vampire (1985) was released.
Before that the vast majority of Chinese vampire movies actually took more after western type vampires.

On the subject of vampires I found the comic version of Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires, a Hammer Horror kung fu movie starring Peter Cushing bus tragically not also starring Christopher Lee.
I've gone back and forth about posting this since it's spoilery and I was hoping we'd watch it at some point but in the end it's too good not to post.
So spoilers ahead. Don't click if you care about such things.
