Okay everyone, there's a FREE Adventure-RPG hybrid game I feel like sharing because the game is surprisingly fucking good and so I need to run my mouth about it. Heroine's Quest is a spiritual successor to Drug Wars the Hero's Quest (which was later renamed to Quest for Glory after some legal shit) series, that was released on December 26th, 2013, and it's perhaps the only such spiritual successor that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as them. It's like someone took a point & click adventure game and added a dollop of RPG mechanics and abilities that have actual fucking non-combat utility, along with combat.

I have been missing the feeling of a RPG that isn't hack & slash slop, where the game has actual fucking gameplay outside of fucking combat and your stats and skills matter for more than fucking combat, for a long-ass time, so this game has been a right breath of fresh air for me. The game is basically a point & click adventure game but with actual RPG mechanics on top. You pick one of three classes and then you get to pick between cranking up your stats and adding cross-class skills to your character, allowing you to do new shit. Every weapon has its own tricks and combat moves and if you aren't a warrior you should contemplate avoiding combat until you're strong enough

Not sure what your problem is but back in those days games had limited color palettes and would have to choose which range of colors they can display at a time. Also, Bureau of Astral Troubleshooters was not made by Ubisoft. It was made by Computer's Dream. Ubisoft just published it. And this game was released in 1989. The zeitgeist was very different back then. Please don't become one of those single-minded idiots who keep mentally circling back to their pet issues even when the context doesn't call for it.

I don't have any advice for playing this game, since I never did. I'm planning to use the Amstrad version, since it was my first computer and they made a release for it. Nobody else here will care about this, but it means a lot to me.

>>279955
It's obviously a palette issue, but back then it wouldn't have been a problem because all games were built around these limitations. Pic is the Amstrad version, in very colorful mode 0. But since I only had the monochrome green monitor, I'd only have seen shades of green, which you can kinda get an idea of what it looks like on the cpc-power page that's linked from here:
https://www.cpcgamereviews.com/b/4/

Also Ubi-soft published some other nice games back then. Look into Zombi and Hurlements, for starters.

You really weren't kidding about not knowing how a PC works.

RAM is the "working memory" of a computer where it stores temporary data. RAM gets emptied and cleaned out whenever you reboot the PC, so if you have too much RAM taken up by stuff that doesn't make any sense then you can just turn it off and on again. Frankly, that solves most computer problems on all operating systems.

As for opening files, that isn't really how it works. Flash memory doesn't really degrade unless the physical hardware gets damaged, and the same is true of hard disc drives. It's true that HDDs will wear out over time, but if it's been sitting in a closet without being touched then the disc is probably fine. It's the read/write operations that actually put wear on the disc.

DOMINOS, RISE OF THE PIZZAMAN MAN
It's so nice, they had it twice edition

Well what is this "Dominons" is it safe for my kids?
Fuck no, that little autistic faggot is going to be screaming about the overpowered jews from his bedroom at 3am.

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based strategy game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously,
It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Dominions is set in a fantasy world that draws inspiration from historical nations, cultures and myths. You will not encounter the elves of conventional fantasy in this game. Instead you might lead a nation of vanir from old norse myth. Aztecs, romans, israelites OY VEY!! , greeks, kievian rus and lovecraftian horrors are just a few of the inspirational sources of the game.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a strategy game.

Tank controls similar to resident evil were not popular back then. Some popular games had them, but they were popular in spite of that.
Tank controls in RE games and other horror games aided the horror elements by giving players less fluid control of the character. RE4 had much more fluid controls, and is also much less of a horror game, but was much more popular.

There are plenty of builds that do ridiculous damage in Hades. Honestly, the game becomes easier as you keep playing it because you end up unlocking more weapons and more weapon forms along with powering the fuck out of your Mirror of the Night. Not to mention you get stronger accessory items/keepsakes, environmental upgrades, and companion summons. After you kill the final boss the first time it unlocks all companion summons (which I wish it didn't, tbh, feels cheap to nail the endboss with a lol3500 damage summon), but you can use the Bouldy summon (which I like too much, because fuck you it drops heals, darkness, and gold) and Skelly summon against the final boss even the firs time,

Hades appeals to the same sort of autism as Path of Exile, really.

But might I remark for a moment that whoever designed the keyboard and mouse controls for Hades was fucking retarded? WASD controls as opposed to click to move controls like PoE? Really? This is not good UI design, and it's a major factor in why controllers are favored for Hades unless you really want to do ground-targeting AoE builds.

Archive of previous thread: https://archive.ph/K9xml

The purpose of this thread is to document and discuss Nintendo's recent actions towards censoring third-party games released on their platforms. As in, games that Nintendo has demanded that companies alter despite having no participation in any step regarding the game's development and release. This point on the subject needs to be emphasized because of two reasons.

The first is that people try to deflect such censorship practices for the purposes of so-called "regional differences", such as different regional laws and restrictions on game releases. This is not that issue as these are games that may have been released previously in the region sometime in the past decade or two, or the game is still being released unaltered on a competing platform like PlayStation or Xbox that still follows the same restrictions and/or even has their own. Second is that, despite censoring their own games, Nintendo actually has a history of leaving third-parties alone regarding what content is allowed to be inserted into their games, a topic I will be getting into in the following post. Regardless, if you JUST want a list of “all” instances of games being censored on the Nintendo Switch (And the upcoming Switch 2) regardless of reason, I suggest that you look at these two following links:
https://archive.ph/S0pfk
https://archive.ph/oaP9T

But why make this an issue? Back in 2019, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa made the following declaration in response to a question about restricting content present in video games released on Nintendo’s systems: https://archive.ph/RkxJm
>Q11: Regarding restrictions on expression. Some other platforms have their own restrictions other than third-party organizations such as CERO. How about Nintendo?
<A11: Nintendo entrusts a third-party organization with the task of providing objective ratings for its own products and third-party software prior to its release. If the platform operator arbitrarily chooses to do so, it would seriously impede the diversity and fairness of game software. The parental control function also allows for restrictions to be put in place.
In addition to this statement, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser recently made the following statement less than a week ago: https://archive.ph/nrYHD
<We always want to attract the best talent we can and retain that talent. We also believe it’s important for that talent to be diverse in terms of their backgrounds, their experiences, and their understandings because our players are diverse. In some ways, it mirrors a similar statement that Sony had made back in 2018 when they were in the middle of their own scandal for censoring games released on PlayStation: https://archive.ph/X2wGz
There are also indications that this is an official policy coming down from Nintendo proper in Japan, based both of the list that you’ll see below (That includes Japanese exclusives and Japanese versions games being effected) and other people researching into the matter confirming details with other industry insiders: https://archive.is/ApYH8#post-1477584

No, the Switch version of Mary Skelter 2 is completely uncensored. The Steam version is censored, in the exact way you said, but there is an off-site patch to undo it. You may be thinking of Tokyo Clanpool that is a very similar game released on Switch years later that did get censored in that way.

Pretty sure I've heard that one was censored, but perhaps I'm thinking of a different version than the Switch.

If you really want to, canuck outlet VGP is currently advertising having gotten a reprint in. Would mean LRG taking a cut on though, since it's one of those games IFI just couldn't be bothered to print their own switch physical of (or that perhaps mainstream retailers refused/were deemed likely to refuse to carry).

I thought they toned down the costumes from the first game or something.
