DOMINIONS, RISE OF THE PACHINKO MAN

Well what is this "Dominons" is it safe for my kids?
no

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based strategy game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously,
It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Dominions is set in a fantasy world that draws inspiration from historical nations, cultures and myths. You will not encounter the elves of conventional fantasy in this game. Instead you might lead a nation of vanir from old norse myth. Aztecs, romans, israelites OY VEY!! , greeks, kievian rus and lovecraftian horrors are just a few of the inspirational sources of the game.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a strategy game.

I would assume scales can also work. They have some solid units that require decent resources. Since you have easy access to earth the can really hold the line of they're buffed.

Your best sacreds are golems, so adding extra protection like ethereal with reconstruction. Not sure if Fortitude would stack, I assume so but I haven't played Argatha in a really long time.

How do you people expect to continue as a community when you can't even discuss video games without obnoxious boomerposting? Does a game have to meet the items on some magic checklist before you can even discuss its gameplay or story or not be disruptive to others in such a bland, trite way?

Opening section has a fair amount of background nogs and one that's an actual character. Also one pair of dudes that you can infer are fags, though it's not explicitly stated and they're dying.
After the opening section you don't really interact with humans at all, and the worst thing you have to deal with is Fr*nch walking paintbrushes.
One main character is asian, plus she's barefoot. Up to you to decide if that's good or bad.

>>279532
>I think that UE5 holds the game back aesthetically.
Probably, but it's a AA or maybe even indie dev team. Hard to expect anyone to make their own engine for "serious" games in 2025 when even the big companies don't want to bother doing it anymore. Even Croteam has given up and resorted to shitty UE5 slop.
Though for a UE5 game it runs surprisingly well on older hardware, from what I've heard. Wonder if they tinkered with the engine, or just had technical artists that at least know how to optimize.

I don't like this sub-genre of games, whatever you want to classify them as.

I don't like them because they do nothing well. The gameplay always sucks; the stories are boring and the exploration isn't that enthralling.

Gameplay is self-explanatory, but I much prefer exploration in other types of games. In BioShock, the sense of exploration was very intimate and resulted in a very detailed environment. Exploring always felt dangerous, immediately rewarding and most importantly....focused; the same can be said of the Prey remake. They also have more interaction with the environment. In BioShock, you might have to melt some ice with your fire plasmid to get through a secret entrance or something like that. Even in third person games, I like exploration a lot more in something like Darksiders. In Darksiders, you use your abilities to find secret areas with rewards and these areas feel synergistic with the design of the level, instead of just being some meandering diversion.

And as far as the stories go that I'm sure people will disagree on, these games always have a sense of mundanity to me. They don't have any distinctive characters that become embedded in pop-cultural consciousness. Final Fantasy has a wealth of characters that perpetuate inside peoples' memories because those games are focused on a tight narrative and allot its inhabitants more attention and detail.

This is why I prefer oldschool BioWare games like the KOTORs and Jade Empire. They allowed for s

Only Deus Ex game I've played is Human Revolution and that bored me; it has the same issue as the others: tries to be a jack of all trades, but ultimately fails at them. Haven't played System yet.

> Thinking more about it, it's possible that your complaint with the WRPGs is that they're aping what people refer to as "immersive sims", which also include Thief, Dark Messiah, and nuPrey.

"Visual Novels with Weapons". However, I wouldn't put pre-Oblivion Elder Scrolls in this.
>Prey remake
Not really a remake. The name was slapped on at the last second.
>Bioshock
>Darksiders
Those are puzzle elements fueled by exploration.
>any distinctive characters that become embedded in pop-cultural consciousness
ME's characters were everywhere for a while, and some of FNV's characters are still talked about. If you mean something like Cloud, there's obviously no way any of these would have the sort of explosive popularity of FF7.
>Every Elder Scrolls game sucks
Daggerfall and Morrowind are pretty good. The attacks not equaling hits issue was something difficult to abstract given how it makes sense in 2D planes but not 3D planes. In a 2D plane, pressing the "attack" button issues the "attack" command, and then rolls are made on the spot. This makes sense there, but in 3D, model collision is the obvious choice. Morrowind didn't go with the obvious choice. I don't know why. It could have been to make stats not just be "damage go up".

>"Visual Novels with Weapons".
Eh, I think that's too far, but I get the sentiment. They're yappy, but I like visual novels and I don't get the feeling I'm playing one with the games we're referring to.

>However, I wouldn't put pre-Oblivion Elder Scrolls in this.
Why not? I played Morrowind on the original Xbox and I don't like that either. The setting and writing are slightly more interesting, but the gameplay sucks, as does exploring. That's the thing with it and Daggerfall. There's a disconnect between what you see on the screen and what's actually going on. Every time you swing a weapon, there's a dice rolling, but that's stupid, because for all intents and purposes, you're seeing your sword hit the enemy and even if there wasn't a diceroll, the combat would still be atrocious. These games only get appreciation because people buy into the world and they were basically novelties when they came out and scratched the urge for more player agency, but other than that, Daggerfall and Morrowind are pretentious garbage that have been artificially inflated due more to the player's ego than actual merit. Yeah, these games let you do more, but I don't care about doing more if the "more" sucks. I don't give a shit about looting a thousand barrels and then having to sell all the crap I've got. I don't give a shit about the story (which is overrated in both of these games) when it keeps getting bogged down by how shitty the rest of the experiences are.

>Not really a remake. The name was slapped on at the last second.
Right, but I didn't really know how to describe it.

>Those are puzzle elements fueled by exploration.
I wouldn't say BioShock has puzzle elements, unless you really consider freezing water or melting ice to be that much of a puzzle, but that's not a bad thing. Environmental puzzles help you interact with the environment, instead of just leaving it static. You could also put Tomb Raider in that category, even the new ones. The environment is very traversable and it feels like an element of the game itself. TES does nothing with the environment and it's essentially just a plain for you to fight enemies on. Even though I dislike Ass Creed games, that's another open world game that uses its environment well. Morrowind is just filled with empty boring spaces that add nothing to the experience except for demonstrating size and scope and Daggerfall dungeons are nihilistic garbage.

One of the things thats quite annoying is when you talk to someone about an old game and you start to notice that the person you are talking to is just parroting something. You'll notice phrases, words, sentences being almost exactly the same. Kind of like deja-vu. And something that has happened several times is me coming across a video essay on youtube (which i never watch) and seeing the exact same opinion expressed in that video. So for instance a shitty medicore game called Mad Max i recently played. Another example would be Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Another shitty game being praised simply because youtubers says its a hidden gem or some masterpiece that everyone somehow forgot or ignored bla bla bla. Its just very interesting because you could simply go back into the past by looking at old reviews to see how everyone thought of the game. The worst part about this is that normalfags cannot think for themselves. Whatever the youtuber says the normalfag repeats. So now these games are considered to be somewhat good with normalfags which doesnt even make any fucking sense. Common thing i see is that alot of people that have these opinions say something like
>oh i played this in my childhood
or something like that. So they obviously have some sort of bias towards it already. Just because you played a shitty game as a kid doesnt make the game good. Fucking retards.
Oh and i almost forgot to mention No Man's Sky. Remember that shitty gam

Which Wizardry games are even more modern than something that came from a people that just has discovered fire? Easy answer: 6, 7 and 8. That's it. If I remember that right, the saves are compatible with each predecessors from 7 onwards. That means you can import your characters from the last game. Not that you gonna get to do that, because without a premade build, you gonna get eaten by weak wild life and homeless people before you even reach the first level up.

Wizardry games are extremely hard for RPGs. Even the grimoire heralds of the winged exemplar, a clone created by some crank who got frustrated by incompetence and literal faggotry during his involvement in the development of what was originally supposed to be Wizardry 8, is pretty hard. Virtually all Japanese wizardry clones are ridiculously hard.

WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING
In this thread a bunch of random autistic people from the internet talk about games they've been playing, or plan on playing.
Then they complain about them or recommend them to their fellow autists while occasionally posting anime titddys.

Myself? Videogames? Of course not, never touch the stuff.
Well ok, if you insist.
Recently I've gotten into Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. Previously I was playing Kingmaker but due to my horrid indecisiveness and mental illnesses I always get bored of my class. Also Kingdom management is kinda boring with occasionally far reaching consequences that can fuck your save over later in the game. In all likelihood I'll probably jump back into it one more time at some point but until then, WoTR. Wrath I've enjoyed, it puts you into the action a lot sooner and while crusade mode is boring it's not a dealbreaker. Also you can become a Lich which is pretty baller. It's also on GoG which means its F R E E.

I then also started another yet another Starsector game with the intent to do something different like join a faction right from the get go and not do the same shit I always do. I then proceeded to do the exact same thing I always do, but I'm having fun. I modded the game to shit and want to try out this new ARMA factions storyline. Apparently you help them reclaim a planet. The factions fun, uses mechs which feel great to fly around in and you also get a qt pilot from the faction. Wi

The 7th generation kind of sucked for a large list of reasons, most of which had to do with ushering legions of normalfags into the hobby and connecting consoles to the internet. However, in hindsight the generation both lasted for a very long time (eight years from the release of the X360 to the Xbone) and marked the last time any console manufacturer would attempt to make a device that looked nice and let you do anything neat with it. The X360's HDD being easily removable and being stylistically consistent with its form factor is practically the product of a lost art compared to the modern spate of black and white rectangles that let you:
- Connect to the internet and buy live service microtransactions
- Post things to facebook with your always-listening microphone
- Fuck yourself in the ass if you want to change the hardware

I had a Wii throughout the 7th gen so I missed out on a lot of the X360's lineup and never got to interact with things like the Xbox Live Arcade when they were in their prime. However I recently got a fully modded X360 with the RGH set up and Aurora custom firmware installed, so exploring the back catalogue will be as easy as dragging and dropping files.

What must-plays are there from the X360's catalogue that I can't get anywhere else, or that would just feel better on the console?
