This whole 'tism could have been lessened if the announcement was made 7 days in advance, putting the large amount of mid-activity threads right past a "also excessive cyclical posts will be deleted"-preface set off a lot of sperging about alleged mass post deletions, even my own tard self fell for it.

> so I can only assume both capcoded posts were made by him, and the ban also issued by him, to himself?
Really reaaaaalllly digging his own grave by trying to pin anything on Sturgeon too (then making it part of a later point that Sturgeon is absent).

>Also, I've only gotten back from a year long hiatus due to private matters some 2 weeks ago.
Then why the insistence on changing something so significant before bothering to reacclimate?
And why lock the pinned thread and the previous Meta Thread? As if we can't just make a new one? As if there's not going to be 2 metathreads shitting up the Catalog now.
I could go on about this for hours, but why bother.

>also I know this entire situation is getting way out of hand because people don't want threads locked, so I'm going to prove how un-disruptive it's going to be by locking both threads you want to discuss something in to disrupt an attempt at further discussion
Calm it with the moderation cocksucking, and clean the cum off your chin. It reads like trying to reset his reputation that he's fucked up all by himself (but that he still reeeeeeally wants approval for), because that's what it is. A community is the sum of it's users, not the ownership of it's administration; any change should be passed by the users (and people were clearly receptive to change) (just, the exact opposite, of making the threads bigger), not just "decided upon" and imposed.

The way it is written sounds like you want to clean house.

>If you think 350 is too low, explain why.
I'm going to speak for myself here, I don't like to create new threads, I prefer to post in threads that already exist, if a niche thread dies I will have to make new one or post in a short lived thread that will reach bump limit pushing another niche into the oblivion.
the creation of new threads push niche threads into the shadow realm, example. the /agdg/ thread.
Here is my suggestion, can you at least increase the number of pages from 13 to 20, I don't mind the 350 posts per thread as long it doesn't kill niche threads, so increasing the number of pages would solve this problem.

These two and maybe lower depending on the results. Make reductions until thread creation reaches an optimal rate.

And to respond to >>316590 since the other thread remains locked:
>Do you think threads become useless once they hit 50 posts then?
No, but newer threads are more valuable than older threads. 50 is also just a number that seemed like the median number of posts made within the first month.
>why does number of threads created serve any purpose as a single metric?
Because thread creation has an extremely strong correlation to post creation.

I don't mind the new bump limit to be completely honest but the way the mod went about it is terrible.
<I'm making a controversial change out of nowhere then locking the thread later so no one can talk about it
It would have been much more reasonable to post a poll and let users decide, or at least just make a thread asking users to discuss the change before committing to it. Simple gestures like these could go a long way in keeping anons happy and preventing a shitstorm.
I think the best course of action at the moment is reverting the changes and letting the dust settle. Any future changes must be discussed publicly.

No, the staff have to be able to make decisions without input and it isn't as if it has been sprung on the userbase without input. The OP was just poorly written, the time table to make the change too short, and when people got mad there were no mods to interact with. Granted, a lot of the backlash has been disproportionately retarded, but you can't expect anything of users even if you want to.

You are not unusually important, talented, intelligent or attractive. If you were those would have led to different results on this site and it wouldn't be the rickety tin shack with clowns like you in it and then I wouldn't have to bring up how much of a clown you are. Lots of people run successful sites except you, but you refuse to ask yourself why that is.

You are hated for specific reasons, actions and decisions. Above all you are not genuine while projecting your own entitlements which is a feeble attempt at self justification aka magical thinking "it's the users fault !!!" when in reality most of the users have been intolerably patient and complacent with you for the longest time while stupidly giving you the benefit of the doubt the entire way which only served to enable your destruction of zzz which used to be a chill and cool board.

>>316818
>you can't expect anything of users even if you want to.

The users are the victims of your incompetency. You don't operate in good faith and blame visitors of this site to inventing actual magical thinking to cope with your own incompetency, when at least half of the sites mods are arrogant lolcows and site ruiners. Deep inside you have to know this to be true because there wouldn't be any need for projection.

The changes are kind of strange, and he probably could've asked first. Other than deling a few threads its probably not going to make much of a difference? I'm not a fan of locks though.
I might've overdosed on chill pills.

Correct, it just reminded everyone why mods and their dicksuckers need to be necked.

There is also 0 reason or benefit to apply said new limit, so why do it in the first place?

"People" throw a bigger fit when that happens.

>By what metric?
Unique user engagement and post count. I've compiled the post count of ten randomly selected threads over a period of six months with the criteria being that a thread has at least 100 posts and around six months of posts (the only partial violation is the hardware thread, which has about 5 1/2). It is important that what constitutes a "month" in this data set is the calendar month the post was made in and not a set duration of 30 days. Since a month is not uniform, this means that some months have an advantage of a day and February is the most disadvantaged. In every case, the first month in the dataset is always at a disadvantage because none of the threads were created at the stroke of midnight on their first day. In spite of this disadvantage, 8 out of 10 threads had the total number of posts drop by at least half in the second month, with 4 of those threads dropping to 1/10th the activity. In following months, three threads had at least one month where they exceeded the start, and I have indicated the reason I believe it happened through color coding.

I don't know how to measure unique users here effectively since it's my understanding IDs are kind of whack, so I don't have any stats about that, but I'm pretty sure I'm right about that too.

>I sure you meant to write this as editing the OP in light of whatever recent events went down instead of mindlessly copypasting the thing wholesale.
No, I really meant copypasting wholesale just about. It's not ideal and you should at least indicate it is a duplicate with a new subject and file attachments, but it's better than writing a shitty OP if you really can't do it. That's just my opinion, though.
And sorry for being so bad at creating charts.

By "editing", I meant changing a few lines in a template/existing OP not writing an entire OP from scratch.

>newer threads are more valuable than older threads
<which is why I deliberately left out all newer threads that failed to reach 100 posts in my dataset to prove this
<it's also randomly selected based on criteria except one thread I want to specifically include despite it breaking my criteria because it benefits my point but it's randomly selected
<also this is the only metric toward the value of a thread; and mesures such as post length, unique words, average word length, average filesize attached, average #images attached or replycount are irrelevant (the only thing that matters is postrate) (we should be envious of the innate ultra-high value of the sharty's /soy/ board at 10,000+ PPD spam)
Also, you're completely ignoring threads discussing topical current-events (eg Silent Hill) that reach 200-300 posts in a week and then just wait to die, and extrapolating their data to the discussion in long-term rolling near-archival threads that would impacted the most by a bumplock cap.

or,

You came to a conclusion, then looked for data that proved it.
Dishonest!

><which is why I deliberately left out all newer threads that failed to reach 100 posts in my dataset to prove this
Yeah, I don't really know why I did the hundred posts thing lol. I think my rationale was that it showed the pattern more clearly since the threads that don't just fall to zero after the first month, or maybe it was to show that old threads still show the exact same pattern of their first month or two being the strongest. In any case, it really isn't that important because the pattern is the same for just about all threads regardless
><it's also randomly selected based on criteria except one thread I want to specifically include despite it breaking my criteria because it benefits my point but it's randomly selected
It was randomly selected as far as me just scrolling through and picking one that match. The one outlier was really just an accident because I miscalculated, but I already included it in the dataset so I thought it would be dishonest to take it out especially since it's actually the strongest counterexample.
Some of those are important, some of those seem kind of random, but to have any kind of community you need frequency. I am not even talking about posts per day, dude, I'm literally talking about posts per month and I would be happy with that.
>Also, you're completely ignoring threads discussing topical current-events (eg Silent Hill) that reach 200-300 posts in a week and then just wait to die, and extrapolating their data to the discussion in long-term rolling near-archival threads that would impacted the most by a bumplock cap.
I think you made a mistake citing Silent Hill since that was not one of the topical threads, but if you want to talk about a near-archival thread like the soundtrack thread that only reached twenty posts for the first time in five years after a late night dump, then yeah, that thread exhibits the exact same trend too by peaking in the first month back in 2020. If anything, your takeaway should be that outside external events, the only thing that raises post count is how recently a thread was created.

I hope my 2515 character post was enough quality for you :)

You don't seem to have much reason to post here besides to cry like a gay baby so it's no wonder someone decided to call you a gay baby.
