This whole 'tism could have been lessened if the announcement was made 7 days in advance, putting the large amount of mid-activity threads right past a "also excessive cyclical posts will be deleted"-preface set off a lot of sperging about alleged mass post deletions, even my own tard self fell for it.

Really reaaaaalllly digging his own grave by trying to pin anything on Sturgeon too (then making it part of a later point that Sturgeon is absent).

>Also, I've only gotten back from a year long hiatus due to private matters some 2 weeks ago.
Then why the insistence on changing something so significant before bothering to reacclimate?
And why lock the pinned thread and the previous Meta Thread? As if we can't just make a new one? As if there's not going to be 2 metathreads shitting up the Catalog now.
I could go on about this for hours, but why bother.

Calm it with the moderation cocksucking, and clean the cum off your chin. It reads like trying to reset his reputation that he's fucked up all by himself (but that he still reeeeeeally wants approval for), because that's what it is. A community is the sum of it's users, not the ownership of it's administration; any change should be passed by the users (and people were clearly receptive to change) (just, the exact opposite, of making the threads bigger), not just "decided upon" and imposed.

I'm going to speak for myself here, I don't like to create new threads, I prefer to post in threads that already exist, if a niche thread dies I will have to make new one or post in a short lived thread that will reach bump limit pushing another niche into the oblivion.
the creation of new threads push niche threads into the shadow realm, example. the /agdg/ thread.
Here is my suggestion, can you at least increase the number of pages from 13 to 20, I don't mind the 350 posts per thread as long it doesn't kill niche threads, so increasing the number of pages would solve this problem.

These two and maybe lower depending on the results. Make reductions until thread creation reaches an optimal rate.

And to respond to >>316590 since the other thread remains locked:
>Do you think threads become useless once they hit 50 posts then?
No, but newer threads are more valuable than older threads. 50 is also just a number that seemed like the median number of posts made within the first month.

Because thread creation has an extremely strong correlation to post creation.

It would have been much more reasonable to post a poll and let users decide, or at least just make a thread asking users to discuss the change before committing to it. Simple gestures like these could go a long way in keeping anons happy and preventing a shitstorm.
I think the best course of action at the moment is reverting the changes and letting the dust settle. Any future changes must be discussed publicly.

>By what metric?
Unique user engagement and post count. I've compiled the post count of ten randomly selected threads over a period of six months with the criteria being that a thread has at least 100 posts and around six months of posts (the only partial violation is the hardware thread, which has about 5 1/2). It is important that what constitutes a "month" in this data set is the calendar month the post was made in and not a set duration of 30 days. Since a month is not uniform, this means that some months have an advantage of a day and February is the most disadvantaged. In every case, the first month in the dataset is always at a disadvantage because none of the threads were created at the stroke of midnight on their first day. In spite of this disadvantage, 8 out of 10 threads had the total number of posts drop by at least half in the second month, with 4 of those threads dropping to 1/10th the activity. In following months, three threads had at least one month where they exceeded the start, and I have indicated the reason I believe it happened through color coding.

I don't know how to measure unique users here effectively since it's my understanding IDs are kind of whack, so I don't have any stats about that, but I'm pretty sure I'm right about that too.

>I sure you meant to write this as editing the OP in light of whatever recent events went down instead of mindlessly copypasting the thing wholesale.
No, I really meant copypasting wholesale just about. It's not ideal and you should at least indicate it is a duplicate with a new subject and file attachments, but it's better than writing a shitty OP if you really can't do it. That's just my opinion, though.

Also, you're completely ignoring threads discussing topical current-events (eg Silent Hill) that reach 200-300 posts in a week and then just wait to die, and extrapolating their data to the discussion in long-term rolling near-archival threads that would impacted the most by a bumplock cap.

><which is why I deliberately left out all newer threads that failed to reach 100 posts in my dataset to prove this
Yeah, I don't really know why I did the hundred posts thing lol. I think my rationale was that it showed the pattern more clearly since the threads that don't just fall to zero after the first month, or maybe it was to show that old threads still show the exact same pattern of their first month or two being the strongest. In any case, it really isn't that important because the pattern is the same for just about all threads regardless
><it's also randomly selected based on criteria except one thread I want to specifically include despite it breaking my criteria because it benefits my point but it's randomly selected
It was randomly selected as far as me just scrolling through and picking one that match. The one outlier was really just an accident because I miscalculated, but I already included it in the dataset so I thought it would be dishonest to take it out especially since it's actually the strongest counterexample.
><also this is the only metric toward the value of a thread; and mesures such as post length, unique words, average word length, average filesize attached, average #images attached or replycount are irrelevant (the only thing that matters is postrate) (we should be envious of the innate ultra-high value of the sharty's /soy/ board at 10,000+ PPD spam)
Some of those are important, some of those seem kind of random, but to have any kind of community you need frequency. I am not even talking about posts per day, dude, I'm literally talking about posts per month and I would be happy with that.
>Also, you're completely ignoring threads discussing topical current-events (eg Silent Hill) that reach 200-300 posts in a week and then just wait to die, and extrapolating their data to the discussion in long-term rolling near-archival threads that would impacted the most by a bumplock cap.
I think you made a mistake citing Silent Hill since that was not one of the topical threads, but if you want to talk about a near-archival thread like the soundtrack thread that only reached twenty posts for the first time in five years after a late night dump, then yeah, that thread exhibits the exact same trend too by peaking in the first month back in 2020. If anything, your takeaway should be that outside external events, the only thing that raises post count is how recently a thread was created.

I hope my 2515 character post was enough quality for you :)

Serious question, and I'm not trying to trap you in some sort of "gotcha" thing. Why didn't you simply select all threads for your data science project? Replies: >>317009
>>316983
I wanted at least six months of data because since I was doing it manually, I thought it would be a good middle ground to show enough of the trend without being excessive. As for the at least 100 posts, I really can't say why I went for that. The rationale was probably because having at least a hundred posts would be the minimum number of posts to be a successful thread, but that's the same kind of psychological reason as to why people buy things at $19.99 and not $20. The number is arbitrary, but since just about every six month old thread has a hundred posts (the only one I have found as of typing this is >>282428) it really doesn't matter that much. I should also mention that I consciously avoided explicit event threads (like the one I just linked to) because those are special cases and would be too biased in supporting my viewpoint.

This was a quick and dirty experiment. I only started to take it seriously as I was doing it and should have written out a procedure and well-reasoned criteria for sampling beforehand. In spite of this admission, it really was randomly sampled (in the same vein as throwing a dart at a map, not a sophisticated randomization scheme à la Cloudflare's Wall of Entropy) and the results speak for themselves, so I am even more convinced that we should be prioritizing new threads even if that means they're recycled from an existing older one. Of course quality is always concern, but quality has way more to do with the effort and intelligence of the userbase than it does with post rates in my opinion.
So when is this "virtual" fella going to unlock the main thread?

Link to a post where I said such a thing, then.
Call me crazy, but looking at the timestamps for most of these threads, my gut is telling me that the proposed limits for bumping at 315 and the posting at 350 are way too high. Only something that is really recent like GTA VI is going to get hundreds of posts in a week. It looks like most of these threads take longer than six months to even get to 100.

I'm starting to think the bump limit should be unbelievably low, like double digits, and the thread limit should be much closer to 100 than 350 if not 100 on the dot. Anything that is getting more than that should just be a cyclical if the mods aren't interested in pruning inactive threads. I also think the catalog needs to be reduced in page count so people don't have to check so many pages for duplicate threads if that's something that's going to be enforced.
Replies: >>317941 >>317942

The userbase isn't going to be increased anytime soon and most people don't even really want that, myself included, so the best thing you can do in this situation is increase the existing userbase's engagement.
>>317941
Why do you want the index trimmed down? How would that benefit the board? I am of the opposite mindset, personally, that a larger total index page count would be beneficial so as to safeguard against spam or sliding.
Replies: >>317945
>>317944
We shouldn't be considering page limits as being a valid antispam measure. We have proper tools for that and supposedly backups to restore from in the event of attack instead of setting limits that could potentially stifle conversation. When you have a large catalog, there are more threads to look through for duplicates. 8moe is ridiculous for having 20 pages.

Vehemently disagree with both of these. Voiced some concerns to virtual when he asked me about his proposed changes, but I don't see how his are world-ending. Your proposal is far too radical in my opinion.
>We shouldn't be considering page limits as being a valid antispam measure
Wasn't implying that it is an effective measure in and of itself, but that it gives some breathing room so a lower volume of threads are lost due to it. Maybe the page limit shouldn't be raised to 20, but I am still against lowering it.

Actually yes, because the proprietary niggerware frontier LLMs government agencies use for their gayops and budget wasting can't post no-no words so using them for tactics requiring on-the-spot innovation is generally inadvisable.
On plebbit and Shithub which already censor everything to begin with LLMs can "fit in" much easier though they don't because 50-75% of posts are so obviously slopped with gay "professional" formatting and painful overuse of the "Not X. Not Y. Z." or "That's not X, that's Y with Z." phrasings.

Glowniggerkikes also want total control of everything in the Userland in order to corrupt it to their specific whims and desires (largely owing to their rootless nature), and they will try to obtain it no matter how ill-conceived or downright counterproductive their schemes may be.

Thank you listening to my TED talk.
>>318597
It's just big enough, and partially it's because of the content hosted on it as well, particularly /fascist, but the general chan.

If you can point me to other clearnet boards or sites similar with non-zio-gagged or normie humans speaking just in general about anything really, it's a rare thing.

You find some lone-wolfs here and there on random forum boards as they are in the process or approaching red-pilling, some are aware-but still retarded about OPSEC and post on things like discord and text messaging, Odysee and bitchute accounts posting comments and having x accounts filled with mostly or fully honeypots or equally bold+witless "far right" influencers.

They really do target and fuck about with small chans, me not being a full retard and also not trying to draw much attention to myself, I've not explored or gone into depths to find niche locked communities, this serves me well, and for the same reasons they want to burn it. (fuck me though for all I know, since I'm running on an enemy OS, so I'm generally fucked anyways and can't really point and laugh though I plan to change eventually).

Its interesting to me just how small the overall /chan culture is and the numbers.

The only thing I ever see is people on the watch for the evil nigger kike alliance policing the board and shitting up threads when their approved list of content isn't posted. If llms we're going to fuck up this board we would have way more users.
Even /fascist/ is a dead board with like 3 people on it. This feels like anons trying to pretend they are still the internet boogymen, the "4chan but worse". I'm not saying there isn't something to this line of thinking, but I don't think it's here. Not yet anyway.

>This feels like anons trying to pretend they are still the internet boogymen, the "4chan but worse".
The problem is perception. Places like this are the bogeyman, because things have become so much worse in digital and flesh space as a whole. Are we truly the bogeyman compared the Internet hate machines of the early millennium? No, but it has become such an act of defiance and shock nowadays to say "I think people who believe men can get pregnant shouldn't be given infinite amounts of tax-payer stolen money to spam making and marketing video games with, mentally ill men who think they are women should not be the ones visually representing women in games I have to stare at for hours if I play or dictating the carefully constructed universes of series I enjoyed long before they arrived, and why is there a shady and suspicious hook-nosed turkish-sand tribe of pseudogoblins who keep funding all this," to the point that you are banned everywhere for saying so. Look at the leftypol tranny who keeps trying to falseflag vidya threads and pick fights out of the blue before getting savagely beaten by the entire board for example: there's so many imageboards, including 4fags, reddit, or elsewhere that the ceiling-swinger could discuss video games on, perfectly melded to their own tastes and censorship, yet they still try to spread it here despite their very own policies and beliefs creating the NPC-ridden, botted echo chambers they led from.

That is the level of erosion we are dealing with, which makes places such as sleepy important.

It was just a twitter image of OoT OG glorifying remaking OoT with the Orwell quote by the anon posting, which is why I asked. Orwell has little to do with fascism, and less to do with the board. as he was a fucking commie, who was calling out commies for exactly the behavior we see playing out now, but I guess one could say it's kind of a universal critique of any kind of party politics, at any rate, back to lurking for me unless or until the mod decides to answer.

Retarded, but keep doing exactly what I am faulting you for by acting like you and a couple other retards speak for the entire website. Just don't forget the ban was for calling an appeal to oldfaggotry a poor argument to justify being an obnoxious faggot. That and saying it is weird why anyone would hack a baby monitor in the first place. I am positive there are plenty of other distasteful things oldfags were posting that wouldn't fly here (not that they should). Maybe videos about torturing baby monkeys and kittens should be posted regularly lest "we" end up looking like newfags.

None of your arguments matter because they're just an attempt to dishonestly reframe what happened in your favor.

The reality is someone posted something old.
You got shocked because it was the first time you saw it.
People called you new for not immediately recognizing it as old. (Rightfully so, newfag, Lurk more, etc.)
You started throwing out insults about oldfag culture. (By the way, the things you mentioned aren't oldfag culture. They were considered cancer. Cancer is oldfag culture to you because you're so incredibly new)
Then you earned your apparently 24 hour ban, then got so buttmad about it you sperged out for an entire day in the meta thread.
You honestly deserve a permaban on all IPs for being such a colossal faggot.

You don't know what cancer refers to. You don't know what's old. You're a pearl clutching vagina.

The crux of my argument is that you weren't banned for calling it distasteful, you were banned because you went on offense after nobody shared your "distaste" of a video that's probably older than you.
Then you come in here to bitch, instead of just shutting up and thinking to yourself "Gee I guess accusing people of being pedophiles for calling me new for being offended by a 10 year old video i've seen before was pretty gay and new of me." you decided to reframe everyone else's criticism of you by calling everyone that's been on imageboards longer than you "baby monitor voyeurs"
