>That’s according to veteran journalist Jeff Gerstmann, which matches what VGC has heard from our own sources. The game is reportedly in development at Evening Star, the team behind the much-loved Sonic Mania, which would later form Evening Star and develop Penny’s Big Breakaway. Gerstmann’s claim follows social media reports linking Evening Star with the PlayStation franchise.
>Speaking on his podcast, The Jeff Gerstmann show, Gerstmann said, “So yeah, some other folks have kind of said that they also heard that Ape Escape is being made. “I don’t think this game is close to being out or anything like that, but I guess it’s been almost a year since we started talking about Ape Escape.
>“Who is making it? That’s a good question. My understanding is that it’s an external studio. You know, because people were immediately like, ‘Oh, Team Asobi (Astro Bot) is making it.’ My understanding is that an external team has been working on that. “What do they make… Penny’s Big Breakaway. Evening Star. I heard that they were working on it.”
<Sony is looking to license dormant franchises
>VGC has heard from multiple sources that Ape Escape isn’t the only PlayStation franchise Sony is looking to revive via licensing to smaller third-party studios. Sony previously experimented with this when it licensed the Everybody’s Golf franchise to Bandai Namco for 2025’s Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots. Sony Interactive Entertainment is also reportedly planning to revive the Killzone series, with a new remaster or remake currently in the early stages of development.

>As spotted by Arcade Heroes, Sega Amusements posted a 30-second teaser for a new game to be announced at the upcoming IAAPA 2026, which takes place in November. The gothic trailer showed two guns that, according to Arcade Heroes, were also used in the 2022 coin-op VR Agent, a collaboration between Sega and 3MindWave. The site also says it has confirmed the game will use VR tech.
>Arcade Heroes did some more digging and found that Sega Amusements’ official website has a page for House of the Dead Reawakened. The site also notes that Attractions Magazine has referenced the game's title and stated that it will be running on Unreal Engine 5.
>The same magazine notes that the game will include "a miniature themed façade", complete with an "85-inch display functioning as its front door and two 43-inch vertical displays serving as shuttered windows." Sega's light gun series kicked off all the way back in 1997. Since then, it has received four arcade sequels, with the most recent entry being 2018's House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.
Ultra Street Fighter IV Mods Bring Rollback Netcode To The Classic Capcom Scrapper

>Modders are in the process of overhauling the online component of Capcom's legendary fighter Street Fighter IV - or, more specifically, its final iteration, Ultra Street Fighter IV, which launched back in 2014. The mods are looking to bring rollback netcode to the Steam edition of the one-on-one fighter, along with overhauled lobbies and additional updates in efforts to bring new life to a retired classic.
>Currently, two mods are nearing completion: "SF4Enhanced" from coder Faabi, (built on the "SFE" mod by Anthony Danducci), and "SFEmbers", from coder Kabiefox. Both projects are looking at the same goal: delivering fast, modernised, and consistent rollback netcode, without the need for port forwarding and replacing the native delay-based system. It should also be clearly noted that both projects list the Anthropic AI tool Claude among their contributors on GitHub.
>A small cabal of World Warriors has spent time experimenting with the two mods, and results have been generally positive. Pro-player Chris Tatarian said he was "blown away" by the experience, while former TO OmegaTomHanks referred to the mods as "incredible". Other players suggested their own experience was less than stellar, with some saying that they had laggy netplay worse than native USFIV.
New Footage From Xbox's Cancelled Perfect Dark Reboot Surfaces Online
https://web.archive.org/web/20261007151602/https://www.timeextension.com/news/2026/10/new-footage-from-xboxs-cancelled-perfect-dark-reboot-surfaces-online
>Gameplay footage from the cancelled reboot of Rare's N64 icon Perfect Dark has surfaced online, offering the world a teasing glimpse at the further adventures of the Carrington Institute and its finest agent, Joanna Dark.
>Perfect Dark was in development at Xbox subsidiary studio The Initiative, a "super studio" of sorts that featured a team of veteran developers with lineage from Crystal Dynamics, Rockstar Games, BioWare, and Naughty Dog. Perfect Dark, first revealed at The Game Awards in 2020, was expected to be the studio's first release, but was unceremoniously cancelled in 2025, (along with The Initiative's closure), as one of innumerable casualties in Xbox's round of layoffs that continues to this day.
>The new, two-minute video - first posted by gaming outlet Mp1st - is comprised of several short clips, reportedly from a developmental build of Perfect Dark. The footage includes several locations, with futuristic sci-fi settings appearing alongside more ordinary locales. An exploding industrial complex, a sunlit, contemporary town, and a complex exterior swept up in a vicious red sandstorm are included in the mix.
>What we can only assume to be protagonist Joanna Dark is seen experimenting with a selection of weapons, including a rotary grenade launcher and her trusty, standard Carrington-issue pistol, The Falcon. Some brief split-screen gameplay is shown, as well as a hand-based hacking mechanic - reminiscent of Overwatch's Sombra or even Pragmata's Diana. Given that the video supposedly came from a member of the VFX team, it stands to reason that the clips focus on explosions, gunshots, and remarkable fruit-killing skills.
>It has been whispered by several team members that Perfect Dark was far along in its development cycle, with Joanna Dark voice actor Alix Wilton Regan noting that they had completed several chapters of in-game dialogue. Quite how much of the unfinished project remains, and whether it will ever see completion, is a truth that lies only with Xbox and the former members of The Initiative.
