I actually left for there about a year ago, briefly came back here, and then left again. I could deal with the slowness, but the negativity and pessimism wore me down. I just needed something to interact with just so I could keep in the loop with my interests, and 4chan fit the bill enough.
I actually think there will be a decent chunk of people that end up staying on here and 8moe because the posting experience is just terrible there with the 15 minute timer and VPN bans. But even if those were to disappear, it's a hollow experience because nothing you do there has any meaning at all. I would write up a post like this one and end up deleting it because I just didn't see the point; there's a decent chance that some of the people I respond to are bots and the thread would be gone the next day anyways. It is no different than TikTok or Reels or whatever the fuck social platforms used today where the content is just piled on continuously for endless consumption. It's why it was so nice to come back here and even 8moe, which I know people hate here, and see all the little things that people have saved and said that I not only remember, but contributed to, and those kinds of things that just aren't possible on places like 4chan anymore because it's no longer a community.
At least for me, I've realized I'm here forever and can't go back. A lot of the 4chan migrants don't have the same ties as I do and probably have a different idea of what imageboards are for, but I think most of those with the notion that imageboards are no different than TikTok are on that weird sharty site or whatever it's called. The people here that go back will question why the quality of life there is so much worse and a couple of them will end up sticking around, even if they end up being crossposters.
