Concord's studio Firewalk closes
https://sonyinteractive.com/en/news/blog/an-update-from-playstation-studios/
>Regarding Firewalk, as announced in early September [...], certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but others did not land with enough players, and as a result we took the game offline. We have spent considerable time these past few months exploring all our options.
>After much thought, we have determined the best path forward is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio. I want to thank all of Firewalk for their craftsmanship, creative spirit and dedication.

Redot Engine: The Roadmap is Here!
https://www.redotengine.org/news/redot-roadmap/
>One of the most frequently asked questions we have received in the last month has been, “where’s the roadmap?”
>It's something we've thought about and have been working on since announcing this project. We do realize it was frustrating to hear "we're working on it", but we wanted to make sure that the plans were universally agreed on before presenting it to everyone.
>Most people don’t realize the amount of work it takes to put a more formal fork together. Sure, Anyone can fork an open source project, but if you want to do anything outside of a local build, you need to build a lot of infrastructure, and rebranding is just the tip of the iceberg.
>Website, hosting, build system, meetings, feedback, many many hours working by many devs to get all this up and running, along with all the hard work by moderators, artists, web developers, a huge community of people devoting their time and efforts to make this project a reality.

You seem confused on which John was which. John Romero can actually do level design. Even his recent Doom wads after years away from doing anything are pretty nice. There's nothing woke about them signing up a woman as their vocalist, aside from the woman and the drummer it's still the same lineup it's been for almost 30 years. Also they were always left leaning so, really nothing at all has changed.

John Romero is a bitch. He's always been a bitch, a narcissistic ass muffin who let success instantly go to his head and drove off multiple id employees by himself. Last I checked, he spends most of his time posting the most abhorrent opinions possible and milking the dev assets he has left from the Doom days on social media for attention. He slapped his name on a new FPS with Adrian Carmack a few years ago but canned it when people didn't shower him in money like Chris Roberts or Richard Garriot. Meanwhile Carmack actually made all of that success possible over more than 10 years of DOS game development, and despite having crippling autism he managed to get laid and reproduce which is more than we can say for (You).

Decided to dig into this as I thought I'd seen something about it getting reprinted recently myself. It is real. At least the copies reprinted and sold through Canadian outlet Video Games Plus, announced in early August. As to Red Art Games, being that they're predominantly a PAL-first publisher (with some games under their label remaining import-only), this may be a change strictly for the ESRB/North American market. That said, I'm not sure who's responsible for implementing this, really, considering Video Games Plus has been fine with selling lewd games through their store (the online one, at least), and Red Art Games previously picked up titles like Demon Gaze and Sword of the Vagrant, both of which have lewd character designs and included such on their cover art (the former of which NISA censored the cover of back on the Vita, and the latter of which LRG opted for cover art with a pose that was decidedly less revealing for the North American market).

It sounds like the cartridge is at least not a revision, according to a VGP twatter post (https://archive.ph/L68di). The previous North American print for the switch was also 001, complete on cart with software version 1.0.2 on it, so unless someone's obscuring something, or there's a patch on the way, I doubt the actual game assets have been altered. Still a shitty move to change the cover though.

For comparison, the PS4 Pro on release was priced at $399 back in 2016, though it only featured a GPU generation upgrade (Polaris) and >hardware checkerboard rendering.
Having the same technology as yours competitors for the last 2 generations doesn't help either, which is worsened by the muck that comes out of their studios.

Dragon Quest 5, which allowed you to recruit monsters to your party and have them fight alongside you, was released on September 27, 1992. Pocket Monsters Red/Green were released on February 27, 1996.
However, it specifically mentions "capture items", which as far as I'm aware weren't present in any Dragon Quest game until Dragon Quest Monsters, which was released on September 25, 1998.
Strategic Simulations' "Gold Box" Dungeons & Dragons games, however, were released between 1988 and 1992, and I am reasonably certain that at least one of them included scrolls of charm monster, which could be argued to constitute "capture items".

Even the applicant's prior use is sufficient to invalidate the patent. Countries differ by how long the invention can be used in public before it can be patented (and during Obama regime the US changed to an absolute "no"), but 'no' country is going to allow patents on 20+ year old inventions to stand up (an absolutely retarded judge might, but patent law is the most reversed on appeal field for a reason). Non-novel combinations of existing technologies are similarly unpatentable, and "setting a flag if something is done" and then "allowing something to be done if the flag is set" is so inherent to computer programming as to be non-novel by definition: Virtually everything in a even slightly complex game sets and checks for flags.

Shift Up is considering releasing Stellar Blade for PC in 2025
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/shift-up-is-considering-releasing-stellar-blade-for-pc-in-2025 (https://ghostarchive.org/archive/mCeIQ )
>“The release is being considered within 2025,” it said.
>“Considering recent trends such as Steam‘s expanding market share in the AAA game sector and the global success of Black Myth: Wukong, we expect the performance on PC to exceed that on consoles.”
>“To enhance the IP value and maintain momentum, we have been consistently releasing content patches and updates, which has helped sustain the game’s popularity,” Shift Up said in the Q&A.
>“With the addition of the Nier: Automata DLC and ongoing marketing activities, we plan to maintain the IP’s popularity until the platform expansion.”
>During its earnings Q&A, Shift Up also touched on its next new IP, which it has reportedly likened to Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Fate/Grand Order.
>Codenamed Project Witches, it’s planned to launch globally across console, PC and mobile with cross-play.
>“We are currently developing Project Witches with the goal of launching it after 2027,” Shift Up said. “We are considering communicating with users and the market in the first half of next year to share specific details about Project Witches.”

‘NieR’ Creator Yoko Taro Voices Concern Over Rise In Credit Card Companies Refusing To Handle Adult Content: “If They Have Control Of The Clearing House, They Can Even Use It To Control Speech In Other Countries”
https://archive.vn/20241108135721/https://boundingintocomics.com/video-games/video-game-news/nier-creator-yoko-taro-voices-concern-over-rise-in-credit-card-companies-refusing-to-handle-adult-content-if-they-have-control-of-the-clearing-house-they-can-even-use-it-to-control-speech-in-o/
>Ever the advocate for freedom of expression (particularly of the ‘risqué’ variety), Drakengard and NieR series creator Yoko Taro has admitted to feeling more than a little uncomfortable with the potential threat to free speech posed by credit card companies’ growing refusal to process payments for adult content.
>Taro spoke out against this rising phenomena on November 5th via his personal Twitter account, his mind ostensibly turned to the subject thanks to the recent news that the publicly accessible out-of-print manga archive Manga Library Z would be shutting down after various credit card companies dropped them as a client due to their hosting of various erotic comics.
>“Credit card payment companies are refusing to accept legitimate adult content payments,” wrote the eccentric video game director, as machine translated by DeepL. “Regulations beyond the law have been in place in publishing and other fields, but the fact that a payment processor, which is involved in the entire distribution infrastructure, can do so at its own discretion seems to me to be a different level of danger. If they have control of the clearing house, they can even use it to control speech in other countries.”
>Proceeding to head off those bad faith critics who would dismiss his concerns as being rooted in nothing more than perversion, Taro would affirm in a follow-up tweet that his personal position was actually borne out of fear that such power structures could eventually have very real consequences for peoples worldwide.
>“I get the sense that this is not just a matter of adult regulation or freedom of expression,” he affirmed, “but a security hole for democracy as a whole.”
>As noted above, though Taro does not specify what specific events or persons prompted his tweets, given their timing, it’s almost certain that the aforementioned shuttering of Manga Library Z was at the forefront of his mind when he wrote them.
>Per a recap of the situation provided by Manga Library Z founder and Love Hina mangaka Ken Akamatsu, “The direct cause of the site shutdown this time was that the payment agency notified us that it was terminating the entire payment service, including payment methods other than credit card payment.”
>“All credit card companies, including JCB, suddenly became unusable, and all other payment methods (except BitCash) also became unavailable,” he said. “In addition, even the payment for the month that had already passed was withheld, and since the premium membership fee for that period (and future ones) was no longer coming in at all, we found ourselves in a situation where we could not even pay for the server. The Manga Library Z management staff discussed the situation, and came to the conclusion that ‘It is impossible to operate the site solely on BitCash earnings’, ‘Even if we find an alternative payment agency, the same phenomenon may occur again’, and ‘We do not want to survive by deleting only some of the works.”
>“We decided to shut down the site,” the mangaka continued. “We deeply apologize that the period between the notification and the withholding of payment was so short that we had to ‘bow down to the company that provides the payment service.’ However, this time, we were able to obtain accurate information (only the parties concerned can provide) such as ‘On what basis the company declared the suspension of payment services’, ‘How much penalty will be imposed and how long it will last’, [and] ‘What specific measures were taken to avoid the suspension; etc.’ We believe that we will be able to conduct a more legitimate investigation and conduct a hearing.”
>“In the past, Love Hina was banned by Apple’s e-book application and later restored,” he added. “We still cite that experience frequently as a ‘concrete experience example’ for ‘protecting freedom of expression’ and use it effectively to this day. In recent years, unprecedented ‘strong conditions’ and ‘strong penalties’ have been issued by payment services, and if these are left unchecked, the situation will surely become a problem not only for e-books but for the Japanese content industry as a whole.”

Demand for PS5 Pro's seem so low that scalpers can't corner the market. Scalpers seem to currently be the "hardcore market" that they're catering to.

An even bigger travesty is that Sony deliberately undersupplied the disk drive to try and push people to digital only, and this is what scalpers are actually making money on. I can't trust such a scummy company, the moment they go digital only is the moment I stop even bothering to get a console. The only reason I even use mine is to avoid buying/installing a game with Denuvo, and it's a lose-lose but I consider it less of a loss with this arrangement.

Sales not even breaking 1 mil is what's absurd to me. Everyone I've talked to assumed it would lose money but sell at least 2 million from brand recognition alone, just like Outlaws.
>>261725
Honestly, 300 million top end is much less than I'd expect given just how long this shit was in development.
>until normalfags forget about this absolute display
I doubt it will ever see the light of day again. Dragon Age is a franchise of 4 games where literally only 1 was any good and the other three were famous for being total flaming trashfires. There's no value in resurrecting the name instead of a new generic fantasy IP. There's no great characters, world building elements, mechanics etc. associated with the IP. Absolutely no value to it. Even if harsh anti-gocha laws were passed worldwide and EA went bust with all its IPs put up for auction, literally the only reason anyone would buy it is to sell Origins and Origins alone.

In theory the guys doing Exodus (Drew Karpyshyn and some other Mass Effect and DA vets) could buy it up and do a reboot. Either way Origins wasn't really a fantastic game so much as the last gasp of the high budget CRPG, which was still enough to give it a cult fanbase.

Tokyo Clanpool rejected by Steam as ‘too sexy’
https://archive.vn/20241113155308/https://nichegamer.com/tokyo-clanpool-rejected-by-steam-as-too-sexy/
>EastAsiaSoft’s latest western release Tokyo Clanpool has allegedly been rejected by Steam according to the publisher for being “too sexy”.
>Tokyo Clanpool is a traditional dungeon RPG similar to titles like Evenicle which has had its own run ins with Steam censorship. Luckily Good Old Games (GOG) has stepped up once again to provide uncensored and DRM free games.
>Over the past several years Steam has been failing to uphold its previous stance on censorship. Saying in 2018:
>If you’re a player, we shouldn’t be choosing for you what content you can or can’t buy. If you’re a developer, we shouldn’t be choosing what content you’re allowed to create. Those choices should be yours to make.
>With that principle in mind, we’ve decided that the right approach is to allow everything onto the Steam Store, except for things that we decide are illegal, or straight up trolling.
>Steam has been applying its policies against content erratically, banning games like Tokyo Clanpool, Order Us!, and demanding censorship for others. Meanwhile you can go there right now and find a game literally called Sex with Hitler.
>The Nintendo Switch is also continuing to prove itself as a platform for uncensored games, with other EastAsiaSoft titles like Seven Pirates H also being available.
>Tokyo Clanpool is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC (via GOG) on December 19. You can order physical versions from Play-Asia here, and here for the Limited Edition.

More than expected censorship in the Dragon Quest III HD remake
https://archive.ph/lzTMH
>The decision to use Type A/B over male & female in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is made all the more ridiculous when the game tells players the difference it goes out of its way to avoid labeling anyway.
>Certain equipment is still reserved for women only! This extra step to clarify what A & B actually means could have been easily avoided by leaving the choices male & female just as they were in the original game.
https://archive.ph/Xqrf1
>They did forcibly rewrite the "Tomboy" (Japanese: おてんば otenba, "tomboy") as "Tear-Away," which is completely gibberish.

<if people are not binary and all le free and such then how come tomboys are being gaslit into going full Ellen Page?
Sheep do what's in. Most lgbt were meant to be actually straight. Straight people follow rules, hence the name straight, rather than crooked. Now that lgbt is 'straight' a thing to be okay with sheep want to 'make lgbt members proper' of which was never the goal. Tomboys are seen as oppressed closeted dykes when dykes should have acted just as girly as a straight girl to attract other dykes, obviously. Such contradictions in logic and behavior of humans causes.......dysphoria.

tl;dr: gay girls are not real they are straight shooters with a modern political virtue to carrry of which includes indoctrination of other straight shooter girls of whomst are a little too straight, and by that I mean a faggot
>>261907
Traps aren't inherently gay, a guy liking traps is. If a trap is into women, or a woman likes traps, neither of them are gay.
Same way a woman being into tomboys is a lesbian, a guy being into them isn't, and tomboys aren't inherently lesbian.

Now if we go by the imageboard definition of faggot, then yes traps are major faggots. But that has little to do with sexual orientation.

Every single localizer (With zero exceptions) has this fanfiction in their head that if a Japanese game ever takes place in a Medieval European setting, then they absolutely "must" make the certain that the game "reflects" 16th century English. Never mind the fact that these retards have never actually read English works published in the 16th century, because that would be "racist", so they push their personal belief of how 16th century Englishmen English citizens would talk, with such aspects as including references to Bill Clinton and that concepts like gender/sex never existed 500 years ago.

Sony Working on Handheld Console for PS5 Games to Rival Switch
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-25/sony-working-on-new-handheld-console-for-ps5-games-to-rival-nintendo-s-switch (https://ghostarchive.org/archive/bB3xS )
>Sony Group Corp. is in the early stages of developing a portable console that would play its PlayStation 5 games on the move.
>The product is aimed at expanding Sony’s reach and contending with Nintendo Co. for the portable gaming market, according to people familiar with its development. It would also counter any potential mobile hardware from Xbox maker Microsoft Corp., which is working on prototypes in the category as well. Sony’s portable device is likely years away from launch and the company could still decide against bringing it to market, the people said, asking not to be named discussing private plans.
>The idea builds on the PlayStation Portal, an 8-inch handheld device Sony released in 2023 that allows users to play PS5 games by streaming them over the internet. Tokyo-based Sony initially had intended for it to function as a standalone device like Valve Corp.’s Steam Deck, the people said.
>Building a mobile device that’s capable of directly playing PS5 games would potentially make Sony’s software more accessible and appealing to a wider audience. The company has taken several steps in recent times in that direction, including making a bigger push into mobile and PC gaming as well as live-service titles.
>A Sony spokeswoman declined to comment.

Always late to the party. Now that Sony is putting what little they have on PC, who cares? By the time they release anything there will already be a Steamdeck 2 and it won't be a walled-garden piece of shit with some proprietary BS like the not PSP Portal 2 will be. All the indie devs have long since moved to PC/Switch and if they still release on a Sony console they more often choose a PS4 release. They killed any studio that doesn't take 10 years making the same gritty 3rd person braindead ai stealth game over and over, so at best you have pointless timed exclusives. The only group who can fuck up worse is Microsoft and their reported handheld.

That's a stupid idea, handheld games should have their own market (and if they can incidentally play such games, that would be fine). Focusing on it as a peripheral or something first is dumb. The Switch is a hybrid console.
Also, its probably too little, too late. They have destroyed so much of their goodwill over the last 6-8+ years, both among the Japanese playerbase (And even foreign playerbases to an extent) and Japanese developers that its hard to take these retards seriously.

>per-user forced online DRM verification for game cartridges needed when booting a game for the first time
>game cartridges intended for sale on secondhand markets will need to be "deactivated" by the original user rendering the game in question unplayable on their own system/account while resetting the game's DRM verification status, after X number of DRM resets the cartridge short circuits itself to strengthen western economic values
>all consoles have a UID and can be tied to a single PSN account at a time, with each system permitting up to 3 account resets followed by a hardlock preventing it from booting past a piracy warning screen, to restore normal functionality the user must send it to Sony customer support at a nice fee of $100 dollaridoos, here the user can either let Sony keep the system and get away scot free or have the system returned with the last account being permanently locked out and the existing user account subject to a number of punitive measures such as getting lesser price reductions during sales until he builds his Playstation social score back up through socially harmonious consumption and/or gesture-based advertising skips
>game saves are mirrored in the cloud by default and will self-destruct on local memory if a game hasn't been played for X months to encourage player retention

Part of it is also government subsidies.

A major portion of Ubishit's games are funded through Canadian subsidies that they have been receiving since 2005. What this does is create a system where companies are encouraged to create games that the government wants them to make rather than what the customer actually wants. This has resulted in the entire European game market being almost entirely comprised of "political activist" simulators that do not make any money but are paid for through tax money received.

Usually they have the ISPs give out warning letters to people, but I have never heard of a company going this far, especially if the person in question is just downloading stuff instead of sharing/seeding it. Is this guy the one who's hosting the freeshop? The article doesn't clarify.

Again, these companies usually directly go after the ones distributing this stuff, not the downloaders (they have the ISPs do that job instead). But, nevermind my previous statement, apparently the redditor was one of mods or the admin of the switch piracy subreddit so I understand why they would try to go after him.

Solid chance this is a bot post, but the foundations that make up people's lives have changed. Before, if you wanted to be an iconoclast then you made games with sex and violence and heavy metal music and cool shit for white dudes. As things changed, the state/leviathan encroached into every part of people's lives, and the methods of advancement within the state/leviathan selected increasingly incompetent people who only know how to kiss their bosses asses, the quality of their output went down along with the quality of person.

Before the inevitable famines, there was no physical reason why Soviet art or infrastructure could not be as good as American art or infrastructure during the 20th century - but the Soviet culture suppressed the spark of creativity and artistic beauty that is required for good art. Being good at your job was a liability when you could instead suckle off the govt teat and rat out your neighbors for being capitalist conspirators.

For literally over a decade now, I've seen the same pattern of someone posting statements from industry people that they hate gamers and generally acting like giant cucks, and then people like you asking "b-but how could this happen?" I know that not everyone had the same experience as me - it took gamergate for me to realize just how corrupt and cronyistic the industry is - but after a certain point I began to assume that people asking these questions were fishing for (you)s the same as the people on social media who make engagement bait.

Like, really? Do you seriously not get it? It's because every cultural factor that surrounded David Jaffe for the last 30-40 years has been pushing him towards being a cuck. Back in the 00s you were still allowed to make games with tits and violence because they weren't "serious" but as consoles connected to the internet and the entire industry became more corporate, the amount of wiggle room any individual developer was allowed shrank.

Consoles are particularly affected by this, because the console audience for both PS and Xbox hasn't grown in the last decade, while PC gaming has exploded due to the popularity of streaming and content/video creation. Any company making console exclusives has to take the Blackrock money and cuck out because they couldn't make the kind of sure, guaranteed money that investors want - and all the companies are either publicly owned or subservient to conglomerates that are publicly owned.

I truly don't understand how you couldn't know all this, or at least recognize the pattern. It's been the background radiation of every cultural force from Tumblr to the Supreme Court for over a decade.

Head of VISA Japan Proudly Admits to Bullying Retailers Into Censorship, All in The Name of “Brand Protection”
https://web.archive.org/web/20241202172519/https://www.techopse.com/head-of-visa-japan-proudly-admits-to-bullying-retailers-into-censorship-all-in-the-name-of-brand-protection/
>The world’s most hated payment processor has returned to the spotlight. This time, however, neither Visa nor Mastercard has coerced another Japanese retailer into removing contentious erotica to conform to their global guidelines. Instead, Visa’s Japanese subsidiary, Visa Worldwide Japan Co., has made headlines for a different reason: holding a press briefing to outline its ambitious expansion strategies within the country.
>The event, as reported by Impress Watch, highlighted Visa’s plans to further entrench itself in Japan’s evolving cashless economy, addressing both opportunities and challenges in the market.
>During the Q&A session at the briefing, Visa Worldwide Japan’s president and representative director, Seetan Kitney, addressed a question about the increasing unavailability of Visa on sites offering adult content legally permissible in Japan.
>Kitney explained that while Visa strives to facilitate legal and legitimate purchases whenever possible, there are instances where the company must restrict usage to “protect the brand.”
>He elaborated that these are “complex decisions” influenced by both global and local policies and emphasized the importance of maintaining “sincerity and integrity” in their practices. Kitney’s remarks indicate that Visa has no plans to revise its current stance on the matter, reaffirming the company’s cautious approach to controversial content.
>Visa has not provided detailed clarification on the “global and local policies” influencing its decision to restrict transactions for adult content, but the pattern of its actions reveals a consistent trend. Both Visa and Mastercard, which together hold a near-duopoly in global payment processing, have increasingly imposed restrictions on Japanese content platforms hosting adult material, citing brand protection and policy alignment as reasons.
>In Japan, Visa leads the credit card market due to its widespread merchant acceptance and international appeal, closely followed by Mastercard with Japan’s very own JCB in third. However, these companies have drawn criticism for pressuring Japanese platforms to censor or remove adult content under threat of losing their merchant processing capabilities. High-profile examples include:
>Melonbooks, a prominent doujinshi manga retailer, which lost the ability to process payments through Visa and Mastercard.
>Manga Library Z, an archive of out-of-print manga, which shut down after losing essential payment processing options.
>Denpasoft and Toranoana, which opted to censor content to comply with the processors’ demands.
>DLSite, Japan’s largest digital doujinshi platform, and other services like FANZA, Fantia, and Niconico, which have ceased accepting Visa or Mastercard payments altogether.
>This crackdown has sparked backlash, both domestically and internationally as payment platforms targeting merchants centered on self-published works and or fanart disproportionately impacts niche creators and jeopardizes artistic freedom.
>合法なアダルトコンテンツ支払いをクレカ決済会社が拒否してる件。
>法を超えた規制は出版でも何でも行われてきた事だけど、流通インフラ全体に関わってる決済業者が自己判断で行えるのは、ちょっとレベルの違う危険度な気がする。
>決済業者を握れば、他国への言論統制に使う事すら可能になるし。
>— yokotaro (@yokotaro) November 5, 2024
>Notable voices, like NieR: Automata creator Yoko Taro, have called out these practices as “dangerous,” warning that they threaten the freedom of expression by forcing content creators and platforms to conform to external moral standards.
>The controversy underscores tensions between global corporate policies and Japan’s distinctive cultural and legal environment, with many viewing the payment processors’ actions as overreach under the guise of protecting brand integrity.
>Because VISA and Mastercard specifically target Japanese retailers and creators for producing and distributing so-called “problematic” content, they’re waging a war against controversial themes like lolicon.
>For those unaware, lolicon refers to characters that are short, cute, and designed to exude “moe” a sense of cuteness and innocence, distinct from “chibi” art styles which have exaggerated proportions. But here’s the kicker: Western puritans, who have wormed their way into the anime medium, can’t resist throwing tantrums over Japanese creations.
>These obsessives label lolicon fans as pedophiles, equating such fictional characters to real life children, all in the name of censoring and banning what they personally dislike while dragging your name into the mud for being in association with such material.
>VISA and Mastercard’s crusade doesn’t stop at lolis. They’ve targeted other types of erotica, as seen in DLSite’s failed attempts to appease these corporate overlords by tweaking genre tags, only to still have their license revoked. In the interview, the head of VISA Worldwide Japan outright admitted the company’s goal is to purge such content entirely.
>They justify pressuring distributors and businesses into submission with the threat of revoked licenses, claiming Japanese consumers buying Japanese-made doujinshi somehow “damages their brand.” The hypocrisy is staggering when platforms like OnlyFans, exploiting real people, continue to operate without scrutiny.
>The hypocrisy is hard to ignore. VISA’s policies allow explicit material involving real individuals to thrive on Western platforms, but fictional works from Japanese artists are somehow too “damaging” to the company’s reputation. This selective enforcement reeks of corporate double standards and raises uncomfortable questions about cultural imperialism.
>VISA 日本法人がクレカ規制の元凶だったか。
>ちょうどカード交換があったのでVISAはやめて切り替えよう。
>日本法人社長「ブランドを守るために、使えなくすることが必要になる」https://t.co/Jc1GjouwHx
>— 氷川霧霞 (@kilica) November 28, 2024
>Kitney’s remarks have drawn sharp criticism by the Japanese especially. Whether or not someone personally approves of certain content is irrelevant; the real issue is the overreach of corporations that wield financial power as a means of cultural censorship. By selectively banning the sale of legal media, VISA and Mastercard are effectively dictating what art and literature are permissible in a supposedly free market.
>Whether or not you like this kind of media doesn’t matter. It’s legal in Japan and countless other nations, you could argue it’s morally debatable but then again so are other niche demographics like the furry fandom for instance which is far more sinister and harbors real-life criminals.
>These policies also undermine Japan’s unique creative culture, which has long championed freedom of expression in art, literature, and media. By targeting an entire genre under the guise of “brand protection,” VISA are setting a dangerous precedent for global censorship. Small-time creators rely on its production and distribution to survive.
>VISA and Mastercard, trusted payment processors are deliberately preventing Japanese consumers from using their own money at select stores because they refuse to erase these materials from their inventory. At its core, this isn’t just about lolicon or erotica, it’s about the principle of allowing people to engage with legal content without interference from overzealous corporations. VISA’s decision to act as judge, jury, and executioner on what qualifies as acceptable media is a chilling reminder of the unchecked power held by financial institutions.
>And if this is what “protecting the brand” looks like, maybe the brand itself is the real problem because crushing the livelihood of doujinshi creators under the guise of “protecting the brand” is nothing short of vile corporate overreach and if you think that’s anything less than disgusting, you’re apart of the problem.

WARCRAFT 1+2 WILL BE DELISTED FROM GOG—WHAT DOES THIS MEAN IN REGARD TO THE GOG PRESERVATION PROGRAM?
https://web.archive.org/web/20241202155343/https://www.gog.com/en/news/warcraft_12_will_be_delisted_from_gogwhat_does_this_mean_in_regard_to_the_gog_preservation_program

>Hello GOG Community,
>We have some heart-breaking news to share: Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II will be leaving the GOG store on December 13th, 2024.
>As many of you know, at GOG, we believe that games should live forever. It’s not just about preserving them—it’s about making sure these timeless classics remain accessible, updated, and playable on modern systems. That’s exactly what the GOG Preservation Program was created for. But, even with our best efforts and dedication to game preservation, sometimes things don’t go as we’d hoped.
>Seeing these masterpieces leave our store is tough, but it also serves as another reminder of why our mission at GOG is so important. With that in mind, we’ve decided to update one aspect of the GOG Preservation Program’s policy:
>Going forward, even if a game is no longer available for sale on GOG, as part of the GOG Preservation Program, it will continue to be maintained and updated by us, ensuring it remains compatible with modern and future systems.
>We're incredibly proud of our work on both Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II, bringing them back to life after decades of unavailability and introducing several improvements to ensure the best possible experience, as close to the original as possible.
>Although we’ll soon no longer be able to offer these games in our store, anyone who purchased them before they were removed will still enjoy the most compatible, high-quality versions, guaranteed by the GOG Preservation Program.
>And because GOG is DRM-free, you’ll have lifetime access to your Offline Installers. That means, even though these games are being delisted, you’ll still have them safely stored in your library forever, ready to play whenever you want. This is what these titles—and you as gamers—deserve.
>To all of you who support our mission of preserving video game history—thank you. It’s not just about the games themselves; it’s about the journey we’ve all shared as gamers. We’re honored to continue this journey with you.
>With appreciation,
>The GOG Team

>If you want to buy the Warcraft I & II Bundle and keep them forever in your library, you can use the checkout code: MakeWarcraftLiveForever

Palworld Update Makes Controversial Change That Fans Aren't Happy About
https://archive.vn/20241205153921/https://gamerant.com/palworld-update-patch-notes-december-2024/
>Developer Pocketpair has issued a new update for its hit survival game Palworld that has not gone over well with fans. Palworld was one of 2024's earliest and biggest successes. The record-smashing game was a huge hit in early access, and enjoyed significantly high player counts on PC and Xbox.
>Millions of gamers flocked to Palworld, getting a kick out of the "Pokemon with guns" premise that saw the game blend survival game mechanics with monster-catching similar to that seen in the Pokemon games. There were some that accused Palworld of being a little too similar to Pokemon in some respects, particularly when it came to the creature designs, but others praised the game as one of the best alternatives to Nintendo's massive franchise.
>Palworld has been supported since its early access launch with regular updates. Sometimes these updates have fixed bugs in the game, other times they have been more substantial. The latest Palworld update is small, but is proving to be the most controversial so far. The new update makes it so Pals are always summoned near the player instead of popping out wherever Pal Spheres are thrown like before. The update has also made it so the reticle only appears when players are aiming.
>The change to summoning Pals is what has really upset players, with many Palworld fans taking to Reddit and social media to voice their frustration. It's assumed that this change is due to Nintendo's lawsuit against Palworld, but that's just speculation at this time. There doesn't seem to be any other good reason for this change, though. Unfortunately, the change also appears to be causing technical problems, with Pals being summoned inside walls and objects now that players can't simply throw them where they need to go.
>While many Palworld fans are not happy about this change, there are those who have rallied behind the game. Assuming this change is a direct result of the Nintendo lawsuit, Palworld faithful are pledging to keep supporting the game moving forward as they wait for the developers to figure out a more elegant solution to the problem. It remains to be seen when such an improvement will come, but there is a big Palworld update scheduled to drop in the near future.
>Palworld has a big new update coming this month that will add a massive island to the game that is said to be six times the size of Sakurajima. It's unclear exactly when this new island will be revealed or when it will come to the game, but fans have speculated that more information will come at The Game Awards on December 12.

You could still download them from the launcher even after but I don't know if that is still a thing/requires you to have grabbed it before.Haven't bothered with any of the shit with launchers since I last formatted my hdd.
The version they were distributing for free was slightly worse because they connected it to the new systems and did random changes to assets etc, you got a better experience pirating the old release even after they put it out there.
The Starcraft1 era Blizz games don't even need to talk to a central server for multiplayer and still just work even without battle.net (the original webservice) so there was never any reason to grab the nu-blizz versions.

The equation on psychological manipulation is very different these days.
Software dark patterns specifically are more like you walk into a casino because your friend says he is waiting there but when you go inside you magically lose the ability to say or type anything except for "Please bring me a drink" or "I'm waiting for you in the casino".
There is technically a single extremely convoluted sentence you can also manage to say that'll fix the situation which the casino will point to if anyone says they are doing something illegal but you have no idea what it is so good luck figuring it out.

Also, these retards are the ones who always make things worse for everyone else.
It's not simply wanting the government to step in to protect people from their own stupidity or lack of self control, it's about not having normal/smart people pay the concequences too, of those retards' stupid decisions.
Remember that if shit like paid online, DLCs, shitty remakes are a thing, is those moron's fault, not ours.

Didn't they just buy some of their competition? Also reminds me that Wikia (GameSpot, "Fandom", Fanatical etc.) fired a bunch of people last month, including the guy who ran (getting footage, contracting experts etc.) the Expert Reacts stuff on the GameSpot channel and then scrapped that series. If they had to drop what seems to have been the literal only reason anyone cared about GameSpot anymore (the comments for the last video was full of people agreeing they'd have been better off firing literally everyone else at the outlet because nobody cared about anything else), the establishment game journalism industry is living on fumes at this point and will be dead very soon, possibly as early as contractual obligations allow/run out.

Nightreign is a PvE 3-Player co-op game with a battle royale like shrinking ring that forces you to fight bosses, many of which are recycled from the vanilla game. There's 8 characters to choose from, no character creator, no PvP, will allegedly cost 40$ because its not a full game, the guy who played it describes it as feeling like a well-made mod for Elden Ring. It's being made by Fromsoft's B team it seems.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth Series & Death end re;Quest: Code Z Will No Longer Launch on Nintendo Switch Due to Nintendo Guidlines
https://archive.vn/Fnojp
>In an unexpected turn of events, Idea Factory International has announced that several anticipated Nintendo Switch releases have been canceled due to compliance issues with Nintendo’s content guidelines. This decision affects three entries in the beloved Hyperdimension Neptunia series—Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 Sisters Generation, and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3 V Generation—as well as the highly anticipated Death end re;Quest: Code Z. These cancellations apply to planned launches in both North America and Europe.
>The Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth series was initially set to launch on the Nintendo eShop. Similarly, Death end re;Quest: Code Z, a new entry in the experimental Death end re;Quest franchise, was scheduled for a physical and digital release on Nintendo Switch in 2025. However, Idea Factory International cited Nintendo’s content guidelines as the reason for halting the release of these titles on the platform.

>Internally the company is a mess. In some ways they've always been, but the immensely talented rank-and-file devs have always managed to crunch their way to out of the fire, and to critical success. Unfortunately, this has lead those at the top to believe that this chaotic and wasteful process is the only way to achieve high art and acclaim. They like to pass off not knowing what they want as "iteration" and "ideation" but really it's just thumbing around in the dark until they see something they like. As you can imagine, the brain drain due to garbage internal culture has been severe in the past few years. So now there's no deep bench to come save them. It all stems from terrible leadership that lacks the vision, imagination, and talent to do the outsized role they've given themselves. Everything bottlenecks at the top with you-know-who. There's a reason their last game was cancelled after 4 years of work and hundreds of millions of dollars down the drain. I fear we're watching the sad slow death for a once great company.

<Former employee, more than 3 years
>No serious career path. Neil + extremely tiny circle decides 99% of everything. Including things he has no expertise in. The majority of department leads\directors are just talking heads without real pull to change or influence anything. Extremely junior design department. They make already hard-as-is work borderline intolerable. Money isn't good. Not for Santa Monica in 2023. And not for the quality and quantity of work that they expect you to do. Any other studio in the area will be 30% of the intensity and pay the same or more. Not worth it by any means. Massive amounts of reworks and throwaways due to the inexperience of the design department and in general poor planning. Expect to redo everything at least 5 times for no good reason. Without time allocated for it, obviously. That's how ND sees perfectionism - purposeless semi-random sweatshopping people. It does work though. Until it doesn't.

i'm spanish so i'll explain: i read that page, and what is says is that the flag used is the spanish flag in fact, because the little flags that actual spanish soldiers use are without the shield, and most people when buy merchandising of the spanish flag it comes without the shield. Spain is a country that hates it's own flag, because the leftists think is fascist (because francoist regime) and they want the commie spanish republican flag also they don't want to make the separatists angry. The goverment for example, in an ((( natural disaster ))) recently, prefered to left thousands of people die than to use the army because the army has the flag in their shoulder and they don't want to be evil fascists. But actually the young, male demography (16-30) that is probably the target audience who is going to play pokemon games are the most nationalists one and wouldn't even care.

Not a Single Star Wars Outlaws Player Has Unlocked Their Own Fathier Yet
https://archive.vn/20241223173733/https://80.lv/articles/not-a-single-star-wars-outlaws-player-has-unlocked-their-own-fathier-yet/
>No matter how good or bad a video game is, if at least a thousand players are playing it, chances are it has a small but dedicated community of "one-hundred-percenters" willing to sink hundreds of hours into exploring every nook and cranny, uncovering every single secret, and extracting every last drop of content before ever moving on to another game. It seems, however, that Star Wars Outlaws' ultra-completionists have been slacking, as according to Ubisoft's recent dev blog, there's still a hidden racing secret that no one, not a single SWO player has uncovered just yet.
>In the blog post, Outlaws' Game Director Thibaut Machin, who, besides numerous other things, was also in charge of the title's mini-games, discussed the in-game Fathier Racing – a classic horse racing and betting activity with a Star Wars twist – explaining why the team believed this mechanic was a perfect fit for the game.
>More interesting, though, was the secret Machin revealed in his closing remarks, stating that as of the blog post's publication on December 18, 2024, not a single player had unlocked their own fathier, something that, according to the Game Director, can be achieved by completing a series of short quests scattered around betting stations, which would supposedly "reveal an additional quest that brings Kay back to Toshara for a special opportunity."
>While it's obviously impossible for anyone outside of Ubisoft to either confirm or deny that, the lack of information online about getting and/or owning a fathier or Fathier Racing in general – besides numerous repetitive, copy-paste "guides" on how the races are rigged and how you can easily win them – seems to confirm Machin's statement.
