What is the best RPG maker?

Why Is Stellar Blade’s Design So Controversial?
https://archive.ph/6U7Qk
>The majority of movie stars, singers, and television personalities in the world are hot people. While you need to be very talented to make it in Hollywood, when you compare the A-list actors of the world to the most successful writers, or even the most gifted athletes (where prime physical form is a necessity), the actors win in the looks department. We like seeing good-looking people on our screens; that’s what being good-looking means - good to look at. So why has the upcoming PS5 exclusive Stellar Blade gotten people so riled up?
>Kim also said the developers “put special attention” on the character’s back and rear since that’s what faces the camera. It’s easy to see a man saying ‘yeah we spent loads of him on her ass’ as sexist, but Stellar Blade is a hyper designed game and attention to detail on the thing we’re going to see the most comes with that territory. It’s not unlike Bayonetta or Lollipop Chainsaw in how it puts us in the shoes of an empowered, and clearly attractive, female hero who owns that part of who they are.
>It’s interesting though that the defence of Abby’s body in The Last of Us Part 2 primarily centres on the fact that she is based on a real woman, and therefore complaints of her being unrealistically masculine are off the mark. However, Eve is also based on a real woman in Korean supermodel Shin Jae-eun. It feels like both sides are claiming certain female bodies are unacceptable.
>South Korea does have a history of anti-feminism, but the developer in question was a contractor affiliated with Megalia, a highly divisive group credited with popularising feminism in South Korea but also for its homophobic history and ironic misandry aimed at ridiculing misogyny. It was also alleged in the aforementioned deleted statement that the developer in question gatecrashed a shareholder meeting to protest - a more fireable offence than whatever motivated those actions in the first place. Eve’s design has clearly been controversial right from the start.
Stellar Blade is sexist, but its developer doesn’t see the problem
https://archive.ph/jpErg
>A developer of Stellar Bladea game featuring a heroine in seductive outfits, attempted to justify the sexy dimension of the game. It’s entertainment aimed at an adult audience. “, he says.
>Leggings so close to the body that it feels like a second skin, plunging neckline (and revealing a generous chest), costume reminiscent of a nightie, schoolgirl uniform (the cliché of Asian fantasy), stiletto heels… All with angles camera and animations which emphasize the perfect silhouette of Eve, heroine of Stellar Blade. It is difficult not to see a sexualization of women, a practice which tended to disappear in the latest video game productions. However, this choice is 100% assumed by the developer, with arguments that are beyond belief.
>Questioned by GamesRadar+ in an interview relayed on February 8, 2024, Hyung-Tae Kim, director of Stellar Blade, attempted to justify the project’s irredeemably sexy argument. Starting with this permanent highlighting of Eve’s buttocks: “ In terms of design, we focused on the back of the character because players are always facing him when playing. That’s what they see the most, so it’s very important. » We didn’t know that a character’s charisma is first measured by the perfection of their posterior. This recalls Hideo Kojima’s lunar apology for Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
>Hyung-Tae Kim continues and digs in: “ Honestly, when I play a game, I want to see someone who is way prettier than me. I don’t want to see someone normal, I want to see an ideal. I think it’s important for entertainment. And, after all, it is entertainment aimed at an adult audience. » If we follow this reasoning, his ideal therefore seems to resemble a pornographic actress with the face of an angel, an image with which it is difficult to identify and which conveys old sexist overtones. The problem isn’t really the decision to go for an attractive character, but to turn him into a sort of doll that you can dress up at will in outfits that make no sense from one point of view. narrative
>Despite undoubtedly appreciable video game qualities (we’ll wait to play it), Stellar Blade is in the process of sweeping away a questioning orchestrated in recent years – which we had notably seen in the evolution of Lara Croft, an ex-sex symbol who returned to a more “normal” physique.

Man, the controversy over this is game so manufactured. It's the same old cottage industry of outrage from the same hacky media parasites.
Having said that, I am really curious why this project was bought out by Sony, considering their own recent crusades against Japan/anime games. I first thought Sony would gut this game, but from the trailers it looks like they haven't.

I mean, if they kept her new face but gave her bigger boobs, a better ass, and a costume that resembled OG Lara (or the ones in Legend and Underworld) meaning shorts and tank top (showing cleavage and navel), than maybe it would be okay.
But i still find her too generic while the OG was so iconic because her original design made her stand out amongst every other game character.
I wouldn't mind last pic but with slightly bigger boobs

>Immortals of Aveum
I have literally never heard of this game so I looked up gameplay footage
>is all walk and talk
>game forces you to stare at pic related repeatedly during tutorial
>who provides non stop commentary for you during tutorial
>the dialog is awful insufferable quippy shit
>later dialog can't decide if it wants to be a fantasy setting or modern military shooter
>combat tutorial don't start till 26 minutes in
>the basic attack (pic 2) is incredibly busy looking but does minimal damage so its impossible to have any idea what's going on in a fight
>the tutorial "woman" is killed at end of tutorial, only to be immediately replaced by someone with a near identical looking face who dumps exposition in a literally eight minute long cutscene and subjects the player to another 15 minutes of tutorial
>immediately dumped into nine minute cutscene (counting walk and talk) which fast forwards to five years later as an excuse to make everyone look even uglier
>actual gameplay starts a 57 minutes in for a player that knows what they're doing and is actively going fast (to the point of actively spamming the dodge dash when possible to go faster)
>it's not just the one basic spell that fills the screen with useless shit, it's all of them
>they all have these obnoxious looking growths that provide a messy outline and clog the screen
>looks like there's crafting resources and leveled equipment
>yet it's still less than 10 hours long with all those cutscenes

I have no idea why this shit wasn't blunderborne tier mockfest
>As the game was delayed from July 2023 to late August, it competed with Armored Core VI and Starfield
Oh, that explains it. A quick look alone tells me this would have been an iconic trash game if it didn't debut next to a good game and an legendary all time trash game.

>wheel hits something, I get scared the shit out of me and regain control of the car
>get mad at myself
>decide to only work 1.5 shifts, eat only in restaurants for breakfast and dinner and get a full sleep
>get my shit togheter and factory in full swing with 500 workers working in 3 shifts, morale was good, which I still needed to pay in fucking envelopes, but that was doing his best to get all the new workers debit cards to deposit their paid there, but if they worked overtime, I still needed to do envelopes...
>everything was going well, untill my boss called me after 2PM, he needed to talk to everybody
>wish i didn't listen, but I did, like a retard
>all the people in charge of each area was there with me, I put boss on speaker for everyone to hear
>he started to rip everybody apart, he was mad, no... furious! why? because of overtime
>he was mad because he was paying to much overtime
>the drunk boss killed the morale in a few minutes and all those people where shaked to the core, is like they had never been yelled at in their life, I wasn't affected because my dad yelled at me my whole fucking life, I got used to it, hell even people working in the main factory hated dealing with my dad because of his awful temper, then they see me and think 'that kid deals with him every fucking day', and also, I didn't get paid overtime anyway, but even if the boss yelled at my face for some shit, I would just stand there and listen to what he had to say, drunk or otherwise, and just deal with the situation and resolve the problem later
>people quit that day, the money was good, but they couldn't handle that shit, I'm astonished of that
There is more stupid and funny shit that happened from dealing with lazy fucks to sluts trying to get me, but it is getting to long of a post.
All in all, it was fun, yeah, I almost died like a retard, but working in that factory was interesting, hell I was handling the whole thing like a videogame, dealing with people, praying to God to protect me when I went to the bank to withdraw shitloads of money for the payroll each fucking week to comfyly turning off and on the machine everyday, I liked the machine more than people, she was easy to deal with.

What I get was that you found your way into a factory's accountability, maintenance and HR all by yourself. However, if your father was working there, how come he didn't initially hook you up with a job itself? Didn't he work as an accountant for the company?

Why did you have to drive a guy into the brothel though? What kind of shithole country are we talking about when a guy can't even drive himself to fuck a slut?
>it's like they had never been yelled at in their life
I don't know about that. My mother and my sister have always been the most insufferable cunts on the Earth, and whenever they opened their mouths the place turned into a madhouse. I've always been yelled my entire life and hated them with a burning passion, but that didn't stop me from devolving into a breathing failure. I stopped giving a shit about my future the moment I figured out how to hide my non-existent life from them.
What I wished was my father wasn't a pushover and drummed me into proper working ethics instead of the human slob I am today. Perhaps I wouldn't have had to deal with their bullshit if he did. I would still not mind getting yelled at at work if I really fucked up. Better that than the half-hearted hospitality and all the management hell that goes down at huge companies do nowadays.

Bob Iger surprised by gaming’s popularity
https://archive.is/qbZtr
>The media giant realizes gaming’s popularity and now owns a minority stake in ‘Fortnite’s’ parent company
>Disney CEO Bob Iger finds the popularity of video games to be “stunning.”
>The media giant recently announced that it’s teaming up with Epic Games to allow consumers to interact with stories and characters from Disney-related brands, such as Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars.
>“In terms of their total media screen time on video games, it was stunning to me; [it is] equal to what they spend on TV and movies. And the conclusion I reached was we have to be there. And we have to be there as soon as we possibly can in a very compelling way,” Iger said during an investor call.
>Disney has paid $1.5 billion to take a minority stake in Epic Games. The deal was announced earlier this week.
>“Our exciting new relationship with Epic Games will bring together Disney’s beloved brands and franchises with the hugely popular ‘Fortnite’ in a transformational new games and entertainment,” Iger said in a press release.
>“This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion. We can’t wait for fans to experience the Disney stories and worlds they love in groundbreaking new ways,” he added.

New Report Suggests The Games Industry Is Failing LGBTQVIH+ Players
https://archive.ph/t8S27
>I’ve known that representation in games mattered ever since that day in 1987 when I finished Metroid and discovered that intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran was that rarest of things (for the time): a cool female video-game protagonist. I loved playing as Mario, or Link, or any intrepid hero, but I was particularly thrilled to see a game say that women can be heroes, too. Now, with games a more important cultural force than ever, the influential media advocacy organization GLAAD has released its first-ever in-depth report examining how games are doing in terms of LGBTQ representation. The data strongly suggests that, on one hand, games play an important role in the lives of many queer players, particularly queer youth, and on the other, that games are falling far short in terms of adequately representing and reaching those players.
>The report, released today, is packed with interesting and important statistics, collected in partnership with the media data and analytics firm Nielsen, and you can see it in its entirety here. Among GLAAD’s most striking findings is that 17 percent of active gamers identify as LGBTQ. And yet, only a paltry 2 percent of games on major PC and console storefronts (PSN, Steam, the Nintendo eShop and so on) are tagged as having LGBTQ content, suggesting that games which actually feature queer characters or storylines remain extremely rare. With big, influential games like The Last of Us Part II and Apex Legends prominently featuring queer and trans characters, it’s perhaps easy to feel like LGBTQ representation in games is more widespread than it actually is, when the reality may be that the industry is still falling well short of adequately reflecting the LGBTQ player base
>The data shows that many people who play games are queer, and that games often play a particularly important role in their lives. For many of them, in this period when hundreds of pieces of anti-LGBTQ legislation are being introduced, games may be something of a safe haven. According to GLAAD, 55 percent of LGBTQ gamers who reside in states where such legislation has been proposed or passed say they feel more accepted in the gaming community than they do in general public areas where they live. Sixty-five percent of players in these states say that they depend on games to get them through tough times, and a whopping 75 percent say that games allow them to express themselves in ways they don’t feel comfortable doing in the real world.
>As a trans person who grew up with games and who has known many other queer and trans people for whom games have been a vital avenue of exploration and expression in a hostile world, I wasn’t exactly surprised by this data, and yet seeing numbers asserting just how widespread such experiences are is powerful and compelling. On a video call, I asked Blair Durkee, associate director of gaming for GLAAD, about the perception that games are doing better on the LGBTQ representation front than they actually are. “I think so much of our media is dominated by people who live in more progressive areas,” she said, “and they forget that there’s a wide swath of the country that is still deep, deep in this anti-LGBTQ culture. That was one of the things we tried to highlight with our stats looking at LGBTQ gamers who live in more restrictive states, states that have passed or proposed anti-LGBTQ legislation versus LGBTQ gamers in other areas.”
>Even as many LGBTQ players find opportunities for community and self-expression in games, they also remain at higher risk for harassment in gaming spaces, with 52 percent saying they’ve experienced harassment when playing online, and 61 percent expressing discomfort about using voice chat in online games.
>Of course, GLAAD isn’t just collecting this data because it’s interesting. The organization hopes to encourage developers and studios to do more to reflect and represent LGBTQ players. A common argument I’ve heard for why games haven’t made more effort to incorporate gay and trans characters and storylines is that developers or publishers may be afraid of alienating or driving away non-LGBTQ players. However, the data suggests, that game developers are leaving money on the table, as LGBTQ players gravitate toward games in which they can see themselves reflected. Meanwhile, 60 percent of non-LGBTQ players say that playing as an LGBTQ character would make no difference in their decision to buy a game. “The resistance toward LGBTQ content in games is waning,” says the report’s introduction, “as each successive generation of gamers is more diverse and more open to seeing LGBTQ representation in their games.”
>When I asked Durkee what she hopes the report might help to accomplish, she said that it’s about “changing the way the industry really thinks about our community.” She references comments made by Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider, who said that there’s a percentage of the gaming population–like queer and trans players–which is already playing despite being essentially uninvited, and the industry sees us as “gravy”—a nice extra but not a group worth catering to directly. “All this work that we’ve been doing over the last several years,” Durkee said, “has been aimed at changing that mentality. Our community is a huge percentage of the overall gaming population, nearly one in five. And if you’re ignoring that community, you’re doing it to your own detriment. There’s much more to gain by being inclusive and by expanding your audience than by catering to the same old demographic over and over.”

Anon, Yidsney didn't "butcher" Epic Mickey. In fact, the game turned out exactly as how Bob Iger intended it to. That's because Epic Mickey was always about Oswald coming back to the company. That's the idea that Bob Iger latched onto back in 2003 when Sean Vanaman even pitched the idea: https://y.com.sb/watch?v=KYdYp6UX1X0&t=2656
Why one of Bob's very first acts when he finally became in charge of the company was acquiring the rabbit: https://archive.is/WUdfY
And why Disney bought up Junction Point and told them to anything they had planned (Which was a Half-Life spin-off they were working on) as their job for the next three years would be developing Epic Mickey. It didn't matter what Warren Spector and the rest of Junction Point ever had planned or scoped as that wasn't the point of the project.

The purpose of Epic Mickey is to do one thing, and one thing only: show how "great" of a guy Bob Iger is.

I still don't like this new trend of remaking games. I mean, if your game is drakengard i can understand, but if the original game plays good, looks good, then why it does need a remake? for example, the upcoming metal gear 3 remake, that game for the ps2 looks pretty good even today, is a easy game that everyone can't pass, even journos. And even the top down gameplay of the first ps2 version is playable without issues and has certain charm. Why the hell does it need a remake? this apply to every game. I don't want remake, i want new games. Is that hard, video game industry? At least if you're going to make the fucking remake do it good.

Windows 11 to stop working on these laptops and desktops
https://archive.ph/42YVk
>Microsoft is expected to announce the next major update of Windows 11 later this year. The update -- dubbed as Windows 11 24H2 and Windows 12 -- is set to arrive with several new features and changes.
However, one change that the update is set to bring is a new CPU instruction called “Population Count (POPCNT)” that the processor needs to support to boot Windows 11.
>Now, this can become a problem for some Windows PCs, especially those running on dated hardware.
As reported by PCWorld, an X user named Bob Pony found a change in the latest build of Windows 11 about the POPCNT requirement to run the operating system.
>The post reads, "There are various system files requiring the POPCNT CPU instruction, from the Windows 11 kernel to the USB XHCI drivers," Pony writes. "Without POPCNT, it doesn't boot!"
>Will it stop working on all older-generation Windows 11 PCs
>According to the report, Windows 11 24H2’s POPCNT requirement will prevent the OS from booting in PCs with processors that do not support it. However, this may become a problem for really old processors like Core2Duo, Dual Core, etc.
>This affects PCs that are 15 or more older and running older generation hardware. AMD started offering the POPCNT a while back and Intel with its first-generation Intel Core processors has been supporting the POPCNT.
>That said, PCs with relatively newer processors won’t be affected by this new requirement. However, older PC users may need to move on to newer PCs that support POPCNT.
>Will the cracked version of Windows 11 work on these PCs
>Windows 11 already comes with pretty solid minimum system requirements that a PC needs to meet to run the Windows 11 operating system. However, unsupported PCs were able to run Windows 11 without the licence.
>With this change, the requirement of POPCNT is at the core level and it will prevent it from running even the cracked version of Windows 11.
Microsoft’s attempt at making people adopt Windows 11
>Microsoft has been pushing Windows 11 to make users move on to their newer operating system. However, the adoption rate is relatively low at 27.83% globally which is much less compared to 66.45% of Windows 10 market share.
>With this move, Microsoft is aiming to force people to move to Windows 11 and also upgrade their PCs with newer hardware.

But there are minimalistic linux distros like Alpine which will really run on any PC made in the last 20 years.

Speaking of Silent Hill 2, I don't believe the premise's, or the game itself all that special, the story itself being just some revenge porn fantasy about a man who kills his wife. What set the game apart for me was the work of various of its developers, that used their job as an excuse to do some cool shit. The music, the monster design, the camera work and the lightning really sold the whole package together. It felt rewarding finishing a long gameplay segment only to receive one of those CGI cutscenes with those uncanny, broken down people.
There are plenty of moments that stuck out to me because of how well the game delivers its presentation. That grave in the society building you had to jump in, which led to that corridor that bled the farther you ran, and into the walk-in freezer you had to fight Eddie in; that agonizing minute where James cowers in shame afer watching the VHS tape; or that door with that ominous camera angle before the last fight against Pyramid Head. It's a lot of minute details that make the game for me, and the whole was entirely a product of its time, the technology and the people that worked on it.

That's what those screenshots are lacking, color and deep shadows. The remake looks drab, grey and lifeless, compared to how colourful original SH2 was in many places. You're right on the brightness though.
In a just world those faggots developers would be working their asses to match the remake's graphics with Sato's old CGI renders. Alas, we're living in CY+9.

I like the concept behind ganes like silent hill, rule of rose's bosses, dementium, or the suffering.

Where the monsters arent just creatures but symbols that represent something. Like the personification of some concept that can kill you.

The devils of CSM and the curses of JJK also work as manifestations of our fears and anxieties. But they can be thened after anything thats uncomfortable.
In silent hill its memories and psychological issues, in the suffering its historical forms of execution and past atrocities that had occurred, in dementium its mental illnesses or the symptoms thereof.

In rule of rose the bosses were the twisted memories of adults who were instrumental in the traumatic childhood incident that the mc was remembering.
And In american mcgees alice the wonderland bosses sometimes represented psychological issues that alice was trying to overcome (the tweedle twins being abusive/neglectful orderlies).

I like how the monsters and their designs mean something, like how they have a story behind them, how they could be interpreted as works of art reflecting some aspect of their world (a concept, an event, a malady, etc).

Its like you are fighting nightmares given life rather than anything that could be properly understood. I liked some of the monsters from cry of fear bc of this.

The only thing Silent Hill 2 really needed is the enhanced edition some fans did.
Apart from that, they could have increase the characters' polygonal count, texture's resolutions, but everything else should be left the way it is.
There's a reason it is considered almost unanimously a masterpiece.
Don't mess with the classics.

You can already compile most drivers as a module (and most distros does that). If you want an external module (i.e. outside the source tree of the linux kernel) that's also possible, but the Linux kernel itself has no stable API, which means these modules still would have to be updated for each new kernel release. The only thing that would change is that nobody would do it and you'd end up with a broken driver in about 2 months of time.
Survival horror fans always lash out in the most retarded ways when their idols are criticised. If you point out that tank controls are objectively shit when it comes to controlling humans, they fly into a rage and accuse you of wanting to turn the game into DMC and CoD or something similar.

Tank controls are inherently bad for horror games because it creates a disconnect between the player and the character. You're stuck being annoyed by your unrealistically immobile retard of a character rather than scared of the monster. If you give the character the mobility that a human being could be expected to have in those situations you could solve that. This is where the retard brains fire up and assume that you can't have something as basic as diagonal or even side movement without turning it all into blazing fast button mashing action. Almost all action games are very exaggerated and feature movement that's unrealistic, especially for a tired/hungry/scared/cold etc. horror game protagonist. You don't need to go that far. I shouldn't have to point this out but these retards will always jump to that conclusion.
Instead of making the monster an unrealistically lumbering dumbass that's only a threat to another unrealistically lumbering dumbass, give the player character basic human mobility and make the monster just slightly less slow and stupid to match it. You've now solved the main source of player stress being trying to make the useless player character navigate something as basic as a corridor, and made it the survival horror itself instead. It's amazing how fans of the genre that relies so much on immersion are so set on defending bad gameplay that gets in the way of the connection between the player and the player character.

Project Zero 3 has diagonal and side movement, and is otherwise traditional survival horror that sits well with other games from that era, as so did Forbidden Siren or Obscure. Even old Silent Hill has side movement in the form of strafing, only it's mapped to L1/R1 instead of left and right, and it's only lacking diagonal movement.
I doubt anyone here's complaining that left and right movement are now mapped sensibly. Silent Hill with QoL improvements is not what's being shown in the trailers.

Do you homosexuals even realize thay over-the-shoulder games still control with tank controls?
You move forward, backwards, and can turn to the left or to the right as you move forward.
If you want to turn back, you must either rotate the character on itself or use the quick 180° dedicated button that was introduced in OG Resident Evil 3.
The same shit as those "tank controls" you claim to hate so much.
The only real difference between tank controls and over-the-shoulder is that the latter allows you to aim for specific body parts, that's why people who want to see that shit are told that they want to turn every fucking game into COD, because their focus is always on the shooting, proving that they miss the point of those games entirely.
>That's exactly the kind of thing tank control apologists do complain about
>"tank control apologists"
Is this the "holohoax denier" of vidya?
I remember the first time i played RE on the PS1 and how at first i thought the controls were crap "why doesn't the character move to the direction i press on the d-pad? Why do i have to press up to make it go forward no matter the direction is facing?
Well, it took me only 10 fucking minutes of play to understand why those controls made sense.
That's another reason people who shit on tank controls get mocked, because they want every fucking game to look and play the fucking same and are unable to adapt.

Normalfags' arguments against horror vidya with fixed cameras and tank controls are always the same:
>I can't see what's in front of me all the time, so i don't have full control of the situation.
>I can't aim for specific body parts
>I can't do "le epic headshot" like in online FPS/TPS
>The main character doesn't move like some action star in a hollyjew movie
And they don't realize that is the entirely point of a survival horror.
You are controlling some average dude, with average skills, who is just trying to defend himself and survive, so feeling vulnerable is the whole point of it.
Hearing some creepy noises not knowing what lurks behind the corner in front of you is meant to make you feel unconfortable.
The changes they are welcoming or even asking for, are turning a survival horror game into an action/shooter, that's why they get shit from horror "purists".
<I am used to the over-the-shoulder "cinematic" experiences of AAA modern vidya and god forbid even trying anything different.
I remember on the old 8ch /v/ some anon posted an interview with the head of a development studio that was working on some shooter game.
Unfortunately i didn't save it, but essentially this dev talked how they released a beta of their game to get some feedback, and were surprised by how some people left a negative feedback without explanation like "this game sucks" or "this game plays like garbage".
So when the dev reached out to listen what was wrong with it and eventually fix any issues, the explanations were mostly:
<"It sucks because i am used to COD and i can't do the same shit here"
or
<"I am used to COD and this controls differently"
So the dev went on explaining them that they were well aware that their game didn't play like COD and that they wanted to do something different, asking those players to just give their game a try and that they were confident that they will eventually enjoy it and have fun with it once they got familiar with the game's mechanics.
But those players kept whining about "muh Call of Duty" regardless, so that dev said something like:
"So at that point, we just stopped caring about those people and kept moving on with the development"
The people who bitch about tank control are the exact same as those kids bitching that another game didn't play the same as COD.

The point of Nordic games was always to have someone in-between the AAA shit and the upper tier independent games, it'd be better if there was more people competing in that space but one is better than none

>>235698

The issue with tank controls is that while some had good ideas to further refine it they never really took off in an uniform way, shit like quick turns / strafe button / permanence of direction between screen transitions is absent from way too many of those even latter ones.

Yeah people often forget that is not either AAA trash with bloated budget or low budget indie crap, there's also a middle ground.
We do need more AA studios nowadays, as you can absolutely produce a good game with good graphics without the retarded budget that AAA waste on hiring overpaid hollyjew retards for face scanning and voice acting.

If by "restrictive controls" you mean:
<"i can't shoot zombies in the knee and then get closer to them as they are down so that i get an input notice to perform a tornado kick that will make all enemies nearby fly around like rag dolls"
Then yes.

>hardware limitations
Ironically, hardware limitations is what forced many devs to be more creative with their games and the way they were developed.
While now, with all the power they could ever need, they are making the same shit for the past 10-15 years.
So that maybe was a point to the games' advantage.
>lack of familiarity with developing 3D games
fixed cameras survival horror games were thriving way past that point.

It becomes a problem when people who clearly do not like survival horror demand to have a say in how a genre they clearly don't enjoy should look and play like, to pretend they actually do.

"Reduced storage capacity": Data recovery firm reveals worrying trend amongst flash drives and microSD cards defective components are being salvaged — here's what you can do to avoid being a victim
https://archive.ph/TOCVu
>CBL Data Recovery has identified a concerning trend in data recovery requests, indicating a decline in the quality of newer memory chips used in microSD cards and USB flash drives.
>The German firm says that the most significant issues are found in off-brand products, which are becoming increasingly unreliable.
>USB sticks with the NAND chip manufacturer's logo removed are frequently seen in CBL's data recovery lab, suggesting that chips failing quality control checks from major manufacturers like Sandisk and Samsung are being resold with reduced memory capacity specifications.
>What can you do?
>“When we opened defective USB sticks last year, we found an alarming number of inferior memory chips with reduced capacity and the manufacturer's logo removed from the chip. Clearly discarded and unrecognizable microSD cards are also soldered onto a USB stick and managed with the external one on the USB stick board instead of the microSD's internal controller," explains Conrad Heinicke, Managing Director of CBL Datenrettung GmbH.
>“These USB sticks of dubious quality were mostly promotional gifts, but there were also branded products among them. You shouldn't rely too much on the reliability of flash memory. This is also in view of the fact that technological developments are making NAND chips in flash storage media increasingly vulnerable.”
>The rise in storage density has led to a decrease in writability (endurance) and storage capacity (retention), increasing the risk of charge differences, which are read as bits, becoming unreadable due to the aging of the insulation layer holding these charges. This issue becomes more pronounced with higher storage densities.
>“Even with high-quality memory chips, the effort that manufacturers have to put into error correction mechanisms in the controller is enormous. It is not surprising that data loss occurs with USB sticks containing decommissioned chips. Flash memory is practical, but you should be aware that it can lose data if stored for a long time, for example,” adds Heinicke.
>To avoid losing data when using USB flash drives and microSD cards, CBL Data Recovery has several suggestions:
>If you frequently write and delete data on USB sticks, you should use several sticks in rotation - flash memory chips only offer a limited number of deletion cycles.
>Avoid using tiny USB flash drives. The force exerted when plugging them in often impacts the chips directly. Furthermore, these compact models tend to have poorer heat dissipation compared to their larger, more robust counterparts.
>As a general rule, always select the "safely remove" or "eject" option and wait for the operating system's confirmation before removing the data storage device.

>Was that any good?
The gameplay is great, but the game only has enough content for about half of it's length.

Best way to describe it is a 3D shmup where you have to navigate an obstacle course without getting hitting and destroying the robots in such quick succession to keep your combo gauge going. The problem is that the game was rushed through development in less than a year, so they were only able to make enough content to last 3-4 hours, but the game's actual campaign takes about eight to complete (With practically zero actual story, I might add). So the further into the game you get, the more recycled the rooms become. Basically, the problem people had with DMC4. That's in addition to how you upgrade your suit (And buy different ones) using points you earned based on how well you clear rooms. However, completing the main missions don't provide you with enough points to do this alone, so you're provided with a "randomized" mode that selects rooms previously cleared in and arranges them in any order.

It is fun and much of the enjoyment with the game comes from memorizing the patterns of enemies and pulling off how to efficently defeat them, but the recycling of enemies and environments may be considered a bit irritating the further in you get. In some ways, P.N.03 was actually the "prototype" for Vanquish.

What Persona 6's Romances Can Learn From Baldur's Gate 3
https://archive.ph/ldtev
>The long-awaited Persona 6 could learn a lot from Baldur's Gate 3 that would help it create more immersive, impactful, and engaging romances.
>Persona 6 could benefit from learning from Baldur's Gate 3's approach to romances, including the removal of gender and sexuality qualifiers, allowing for more diversity and player choice.
>Baldur's Gate 3's approval system for romances adds depth and consequences to the player's choices, which Persona 6 could implement to improve immersion.
>Persona 6 could enhance the romance experience by adding more specific romance events and incorporating romanced characters into the main story, increasing the overall impact of the romances.
>The next game in the main Persona franchise, Persona 6, could learn a lot from the CRPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, in terms of its romances. In previous Persona games, the romances were a little rinse and repeat, and although the different romanceable companions all had their unique routes and personalities, the recipe of those routes has essentially been the same throughout the Persona franchise.
>There are a lot of things that Persona 6 could learn and draw from Baldur’s Gate 3’s memorable romances. Although Persona 6 likely wouldn't go as far as BG3 when it comes to sexual content, the game could still improve and add more immersion to its romances in ways that don't break those restrictions.
>In Baldur’s Gate 3, companions have no sexual or gender preferences, meaning that protagonists of any gender or sexuality can romance them, unlike Persona or most other games that feature romance. Persona has almost always been limited to heterosexual romances, and since most Persona protagonists are male, that means almost all romances in the franchise are with female companions.
>Larian Studios including this mechanic in the romances of Baldur’s Gate 3 boosted its diversity and allowed players to play the game how they wanted to, without any restrictions, such as needing to play as a female character to romance a male character or needing to play a specific gender to romance a specific character. Although having no gender and sexual qualifiers does minimize the immersion in that area slightly, that does not mean it’s as limited as having only straight romances like the Persona franchise has.
>To romance a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, a player must have high approval with them, meaning that certain dialogue choices and actions can either increase or decrease their approval or the player. Although Persona's romances can be easier to achieve, it does take away the immersion of good or bad choices. The correct dialogue choices inside a social link event must be made to romance a companion, meaning that whatever choice the player makes outside the social link and romance wouldn’t matter and would not affect the companion’s opinion of the player.
>If the protagonist is rude to others in Baldur’s Gate 3, then characters such as Astarion and Lae’zel will approve, whereas characters such as Gale and Karlach will disapprove. However, there are also ways for a friendly protagonist to impress Astarion, the morally gray companion in Baldur's Gate 3. This approval system is seen in many games that feature romances, and it creates a deeper immersion for players having to live with the consequences of their choices.
>The Persona franchise is known for having its strictly straight romances and male protagonists. Persona 4 and Persona 5 briefly hinted at a possible bisexual character, but quickly brushed those moments off as a joke. Although Persona 4's Yosuke Hanamura was originally intended to be a romance option, the romance was scrapped and didn't make it into the released game.
>Persona 3 Portable included a female protagonist who could romance male characters and Persona 2: Innocent Sin featured a romance between male characters, Tatsuya and Jun.
>If Persona 6 adds male romances alongside its female romances and includes bisexual or even gay romances, then it could create even more immersion, as well as give more flexibility for players of all backgrounds and sexualities, just like Baldur’s Gate 3 did with its romances. If it has both a male and female protagonist option, Persona 6 could even remove the gender qualifier like Baldur’s Gate 3 did, giving a deeper role-playing element.
>Baldur’s Gate 3 features an approval system for its companions where they will approve and disapprove of certain choices and actions, and the higher a companion’s approval, the more chance the player will be able to romance them. Persona 6 could include a mechanic like this, and it could affect a Persona character’s social link. If the player progresses through the social link but doesn’t have a high approval rate for the romanceable character, then a romance might not occur. Although Persona 6 features multiple choice dialogue, this dialogue doesn’t really affect a character’s approval, but with an approval system, it would certainly ramp up the choice and consequence of the dialogue choices in Persona 6.
>Just like Baldur’s Gate 3 and games that featured immersive romances before it, like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, Persona 6 could add more events that are specific to its romance. For example, it could add new events such as helping the player through rough times (just like how Astarion and other romanceable BG3 companions help the Dark Urge when they’re resisting their urges to kill) or charming new dialogue events that takes place once the player goes to sleep for the night.
Persona 6’s Romances Could Impact the Story More than Previous Games
>If there’s one thing that the Persona franchise has lacked regarding its romances, it’s impact on the overall story. Persona 6 could learn a lot from Baldur’s Gate 3 regarding how the romances interacted with the main story. There is no new dialogue from a character if they were in a romance or not, and no new dialogue choices if the player was in a romance with a character.
>Although previous Persona romances have had events that intertwine with the calendar system, such as the Summer Festival, Christmas, and Valentine's, the romances don’t impact the main story. Persona 6’s romances could impact the story more by having romanced characters add new dialogue that coexists with their relationship, or at least an acknowledgment of the romance in the story outside social events. Persona 6 could certainly find that adding more flavor, immersion, impact, and diversity to its romances would be successful, just like it is with Baldur’s Gate 3.

With Konami it was due to pachinko. Why "waste" 100k or 1mil on games when they can whore out old characters on gambling machines instead? I heard pachinko slowed down quite a bit so that choice isn't so hot now. They've done an excellent job of shooting themselves in the foot regardless. At least the tunes were rock solid ... though most taken from other albums. What happened to Konami, indeed. The company who'd take a chance and put love into Perfect Selection Dracula ~NEW CLASSIC~ and PERFECT SELECTION DRACULA BATTLE, among many many others. Vampire Killer~Wicked Child and Ever Green from ~NEW CLASSIC~ are masterpieces. I do not say that lightly.
>>236046
it's simple
marketers bring in more money than devs, and are considerably more charismatic. the talent is pushed out to push more shovelware for easy money, and eventually the old devs are mostly gone with no say anyway and the new devs lack the talent, experience, drive, or influence to make changes. one-two punch it with execs who don't care about games and only care about profits, and you end up with industry who make products for nobody. nipland was a bit more insulated but ultimately you need passionate people in charge who care about content to keep content alive, while for most people in life they just want to make ends meet (with people who would rather work on big name pozzed games rather than nogaems). and then you have localizer trash breathing down their necks bullshitting about mass, worldwide appeal, just pushing agendas.
blahblahblah same complaints you've seen for the last decade.

The only thing to have recently happened is the success of all the smaller dev games over the AAA. Is that really enough to scare the game industry?

What really scares the game industry is when their customers finally realize that they could (and should) ask for better games and more content for way less money, and that their jewish prices and nickle and diming DLCs and season passes are not "necessary" as they brainwashed people to think for years.

That reminds me of when they killed the Vita prematurely, i think that's their usual: "It's a failure and we are ceasing to support it, but we can't say it loud and clear lest our shareholders get pissed"
The Stellar Blade thing makes more sense day by day.
They know the PS5 failed and they are not going to stop those who still want to develop games for it, even if they don't follow their agenda.

Italy’s new Piracy Shield has just gone into operation and is already harming human rights there
https://archive.ph/XdhSt
>A document detailing technical requirements of Italy’s Piracy Shield anti-piracy system confirms that ISPs are not alone in being required to block pirate IPTV services. All VPN and open DNS services must also comply with blocking orders, including through accreditation to the Piracy Shield platform. Google has already agreed to dynamically deindex sites and remove infringing adverts.
>The list of IP addresses and domain names to be blocked is drawn up by private bodies authorised by AGCOM (currently, for example, Sky and DAZN). These private bodies enter the blocking lists in a specific platform. The blocks must be enforced within 30 minutes of their first appearance by operators offering any service to residents of Italy.
>There is no judicial review and no review by AGCOM. The block must be enforced inaudita altera parte [without hearing the other party] and without the possibility of real time refusal, even in the case of manifest error. Any objection by the aggrieved party can only be made at a later stage, after the block has been imposed.
>The above requirements are too burdensome for AirVPN, both economically and technically. They are also incompatible with AirVPN’s mission and would negatively impact service performance. They pave the way for widespread blockages in all areas of human activity and possible interference with fundamental rights (whether accidental or deliberate). Whereas in the past each individual blockade was carefully evaluated either by the judiciary or by the authorities, now any review is completely lost. The power of those private entities authorized to compile the block lists becomes enormous as the blocks are not verified by any third party and the authorized entities are not subject to any specific fine or statutory damage for errors or over-blocking.

>“I was in a country fighting a population that lives on less than $1 a day with gigantic weapons and armored vehicles,” says a former US army intelligence analyst, Jeremiah Knowles, “and if I’m patrolling in Afghanistan with my assault rifle and a kid gets too close …” He pauses. “That’s not what they put in the advertisements. >their jewish prices and nickle and diming DLCs and season passes are not "necessary" as they brainwashed people to think for years
They kind of are in the sense that the cost of being AAA has been going up much faster than inflation and Steam's constant sales totally destroyed what you can charge for games, at least on PC. This is what enabled the jews to slow-walk subscriptions, season passes and other rent-seeking behavior into the industry, devs couldn't both pay their bills and keep the illusion of infinite growth for publishers otherwise. Even that wasn't enough so they're pulling up the retail price of console games to $60 and now $70 while still charging twice that for a complete game. Their real problem is, being faggots, they can't provide enough value to justify those prices to people without social gaslighting tricks to keep them engaged, and those aren't working as well as they used to. The solution to this is of course fewer, smaller games that can be made by small teams of conservative white men with good ideas and sold for less money while still making a nice profit. That's obviously not going to happen so they're just gonna keep eating shit for as long as other jews are willing to bail them out.

Because big numbers and less investments sound better to idiots who know nothing about video games ignoring the fact that if you were to invest in more titles you would make more money
investors are dumb as fucking rocks they don't care about the results as long as it gets them money even if it meant they could make more
they think of video games like streaming services except you can randomly charge someone for changing a button's color or to load the stream faster and only think of cost cutting measures and people will never get bored of it
but it does not work that way you need to attract new consumers to keep retention of people playing and buying video games

ultimately you can keep going down that path and eventually people will get tired of it and sick of the 3 game options you give them which will destroy your company and most likely crash the industry as a whole
>almost 20 years ago pretty much everyone agreed this was not sustainable yet kept doing it anyways because the industry is made of retards and those who incentivize retards to stay there

Yeah well that's exactly what has been going on with the USA's military for at least the past 20 some years, only they also introduced and steadily ramped up the poz propaganda which only further demoralizes soldiers, causes them to leave service instead of renewing contracts, and spread the word about how fucking stupid and awful it is to everyone else. It's genuinely shocking seeing the difference of how the military was just a decade ago compared to the uniformed gay pride parade it is nowadays.

Apple Lobbies Against 'Right To Repair' Bill in Oregon
https://archive.ph/sVjvx
>Just six months after supporting customers' right to repair their devices in California, Apple is currently lobbying against a right-to-repair bill in Oregon, marking the first time the company has outlined its stance on right to repair during a public hearing, 404 Media reports.
>John Perry, Apple’s principal secure repair architect, told the legislature: “It is our belief that the bill’s current language around parts pairing will undermine the security, safety, and privacy of Oregonians by forcing device manufacturers to allow the use of parts of unknown origin in consumer devices.”

Notably, Web Monetization (WM) offers two unique features – small payments and no user interaction – that address several important scenarios currently unmet on the web."
Mark Zuckerberg reviewed Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Here’s what he had to say about how it compares to Meta’s Quest 3
https://archive.ph/ohG7G
>“Alright, guys, so, I finally tried Apple’s Vision Pro,” Zuckerberg begins in the video, which was posted to his Instagram.
>“Before this, I expected that Quest would be the better value for most people because it’s really good and it’s like seven times less expensive,” he said, referencing Quest 3’s $500 starting price tag compared to $3,500 for the Vision Pro. “But after using it, I don’t just think Quest is the better value, I think Quest is the better product, period.”
>“Now, look, I know that some fanboys get upset whenever anyone dares to question if Apple’s going to be the leader in a new category,” Zuckerberg said, before going on to critique what is often referred to as Apple’s “walled garden” approach to product development, where it controls the apps users can access on its devices and its products are mostly only interoperable with each other.
>“The reality is that every generation of computing has an open and a closed model, and yeah, in mobile, Apple’s closed model won,” Zuckerberg said. “In this next generation, Meta is going to be the open model, and I really want to make sure that the open model wins out again.”
>Zuckerberg did acknowledge a few of the things the Vision Pro does better, saying “Apple’s screen does have a higher resolution” and “Apple’s eye tracking is really nice.” He added that Meta planned to bring back its older eye tracking technology for future Quest products.

>Sony’s new PlayStation Portal has been hacked by Google engineers to run emulated games locally. The $199.99 handheld debuted in November but was limited to just streaming games from a PS5 console and not even titles from Sony’s cloud gaming service.
>Now, two Google engineers have managed to get the PPSSPP emulator running natively on the PlayStation Portal, allowing a Grand Theft Auto PSP version to run on the Portal without Wi-Fi streaming required. “After more than a month of hard work, PPSSPP is running natively on PlayStation Portal. Yes, we hacked it,” says Andy Nguyen in a post on X.
Cooler Master sues competitors for infringing on patented pump-inside-radiator cooler design
https://archive.md/4N64M
>TechPowerUp reports that Cooler Master is suing cooling manufacturers SilverStone, Enermax, and Apaltek for infringing on its patented pump-inside-radiator cooler designs. The company is apparently also going the extra mile and is also suing all three manufacturers for copying its ARGB mini-controller design. Cooler Master is seeking damages and compensation for its legal costs.
>What's interesting is that Cooler Master is not suing other manufacturers, such as MSI or NZXT for infringing on its designs. MSI is an active user of radiator pump designs and utilizes them in products such as its MAG CoreLiquid series. NZXT also uses a similar design in its Kraken M22 120mm AIO. According to TechPowerUp, one of the defendants also noticed this and said it was very interesting that Cooler Master is not pursuing MSI for patent infringement — suggesting the company is acting like a "bully" by pursuing smaller manufacturers.
>Cooler Master lawsuit looks awfully similar to a 2017 lawsuit against the company by Asetek — also for patent infringement on cooler designs. Cooler Master won that case, but has apparently decided to take a page from Asetek's book and go after SilverStone and Enermax, as well as Apaltek, which is the OEM supplier for the other two companies. And while Asetek lost its 2017 infringement case against Cooler Master, it has won cases like these in the past — including one against Cooler Master in 2015.

Sony has been doing this shit since 2006. The PS3 was capable of streaming 29 games, plus the PS1 library, to the PSP through the Remote Play feature (With the Vita adding six more games). Then the PS4 was capable of streaming it's entire library to the Vita. Anon, it is a handheld device. Doesn't matter if they can "do it", like how you had Call of Duty on the damn NDS and PSP. The problem is that these developers cannot program for shit. So unless they have access to a device that rivals the starship Enterprise in terms of "available power", then they're not going to make games for it. And if they do make games for it, then the games are going to run like shit and they'll blame it on the customer for having not bought the "proper" version of the game.

Just look at all the people that ridicule the Switch for being "underpowered" when the games are doing nothing new or different than the games on the Xbox 360, a system from nearly 20 years ago.

New Lara Croft image is a "unified vision" of the character and isn't how she'll look in future Tomb Raider games
https://archive.md/0XTpP
>On February 16, the official Tomb Raider Twitter account shared a brand new image of Lara Croft along with news about its newly-launched website. At the time, the image was described as a wallpaper "showcasing our unified vision for Lara Croft," which combines several of her looks over the years, but many fans took this as a hint as to how the protagonist would look in future games.
>Not everyone was a fan of this version of Lara Croft, with many responding to the tweet with criticisms such as "this is just Call of Duty Lara" and "she looks nothing like the pre-reboot Laras." It seems a lot of fans prefer Lara's original design and weren't happy to see a version of the heroine that doesn't resemble this. Thankfully, for these fans, this Lara probably won't go further than the wallpaper.

I am going to play devil's advocate here.
Maybe that is just a concept art and the final version will have her face fixed.
I think that the fact that the first thing Embracer did with Tomb Raider was re-releasing the "Guardian of Light" and "Temple of Osiris" games, where Lara was portrayed as her original self (as opposed to the rule63 Nathan Drake of the reboot titles) as well as remastering the original trilogy, makes me confident that they want to bring back the real Lara.
That artwork is maybe just the artist being shit at drawing feminine faces and not how Lara's face is going to look like moving forward.
>>236895
>Fix the manjaw and it would be fine.
I think that we should focus on the fact that they want to bring back her iconic look, then her face could easily (and probably will) get fixed.
I think that for the time being, we should keep a "wait and see" attitude, until they show us the actual character model that will be used in future games.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Gaming's Greatest Lesbian Scavenger Hunt
https://archive.md/USzDT
>Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is filled with queer representation. While none of the main cast have been confirmed as LGBTQ+ (as much as my heart ships Aerith and Tifa), the world the game takes place in is surprisingly queer, and easily the biggest step towards inclusivity the series has ever taken. While Final Fantasy 16 has a heartfelt yet underutilised gay romance thanks to Dion Lesage and Sir Terence, it never felt like it took its representation far enough. As the player we were left to fill in the tragic gaps ourselves, instead of embracing queer joy which should still be possible in the midst of a grounded fantasy world.
>Square Enix had clear intention to improve upon this in Rebirth, in subtle yet impactful ways that fold beautifully into the open world. Throughout my 60+ hour review playthrough I would make a point to slowly walk around each new town and settlement, taking in unfolding conversations between people who are simply going about their everyday lives. While Cloud and company are trying to save the world, the majority of citizens you stumble across are all trying to make ends meet, constantly worrying about the capitalist overlords staring down at them. They have to exist within the confines of systems they can’t control, so why not try to grasp onto a semblance of happiness while they still can.
>Queer communities are a part of this equation, and much like The Owl House, Rebirth takes place in a world where homophobia doesn’t appear to exist, even if other forms of prejudice do play a role in the narrative as Midgar and Wutai continually butt heads with each other on their troubled history. I first stumbled across this in the town of Kalm, where the game begins and you first develop a taste for the open world. The streets are packed with citizens talking, merchants trading, and a genuine buzz that prevents the affair from feeling too artificial. One of the first things I encountered was two women involved in a small scuffle as they furiously slapped one another in the face as they appeared to argue over a cheating boyfriend.
>After progressing the main story for a few hours and noticing the sun had begun to set in the sky, I opted to return to Kalm to pick up a few side quests and restock my inventory. Quickly noticing that new NPCs were now occupying certain spots around town, taking part in dense conversations that weren’t here previously, or were extensions of prior stories. When I went to check on the two women, they were now holding hands and embracing each other, talking about whether they should take a vacation to Costa Del Sol or Gold Saucer in order to make it up to each other and deepen their relationship. It’s only a few lines of dialogue, but Square deciding to flesh out otherwise meaningless characters like this in its open world makes it so alive, and the fact they’re queer only warms my heart further.
>This adorable and somewhat violent tale had faded into memory when I arrived in Costa Del Sol, until I decided that I should check out the pier, only to find the queer couple holding hands on the beach clad in new outfits I hadn’t seen before with expanded dialogue. They kept the world alive, and as I came to witness more of Midgar, they travelled it alongside me. I haven’t spotted them in the Gold Saucer yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re tucked away in an attraction having a good smooch.
>They aren’t the only slice of queer rep folded into this world either. Crow’s Nest in the Junon region is home to two friends talking about being over men and the possibility of broadening their romantic horizons, only for the subject of potentially dating one another comes up in the conversation. I haven’t returned to this location yet, so who knows if things have changed, but judging from how the rest of the world has been unafraid to evolve, I wouldn’t be surprised if it had.
>I do wish that many of the brief sapphic romances featured in Rebirth weren’t primarily borne out of fallouts with men in their lives, as if they needed an excuse to embrace their true identity by leaving behind toxic masculine ideals. You could have featured said romances without preamble or narrative context, or at least superior framing that didn’t come with so much baggage. Because when I stumbled across two gay men in a hotel lobby within Cosmo Canyon, no such backstory seemed to accompany them.
>It’s quite the opposite. The two men are talking about one of them having to suddenly leave behind their job as a concert pianist in Costa Del Sol following an arm injury, an occupation that was taken up by Tifa in an earlier quest. There are tinges of regret, but the couple aren’t afraid to move past this shortcoming and look towards the future. They talk about buying the house of their dreams and raising a family within it, making a life for themselves as a queer couple without fear of prejudice. It’s strange that the queer women in Rebirth weren’t given the same agency and had to be shackled to men to even appear, as much as I appreciate stumbling across them as a pansexual trans woman with a lifelong love of Final Fantasy 7.
>Putting occasional stumbles and lack of confirmed representation in the ensemble cast to the side though, this is undeniably a step forward for the series. It’s how I’d love to see a queer presence handled in future games that want to make our existence part of a virtual world without making it feel forced or awkward. We exist, want to express ourselves, and tend to fall in love just like anyone else, even in a world as twisted and beautiful as this.

>“We are investigating but there is currently zero evidence that these claims are legitimate,” it says. “Mogilievich has not contacted Epic or provided any proof of the veracity of these allegations.
>“When we saw these allegations, which were a screenshot of a darkweb webpage in a Tweet from a third party, we began investigating within minutes and reached out to Mogilevich for proof. Mogilevich has not responded.
>“The closest thing we have seen to a response is this Tweet, where they allegedly ask for $15k and ‘proof of funds’ to hand over the purported data.”
Norway study suggests young gamers face bullying over Fortnite skins
http://web.archive.org/web/20240228150704/https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/kids-face-bullying-over-in-game-items-and-skins-study-suggests/
>The study found that some children were not even aware they were spending real money. Some games, such as Fortnite (V-Bucks) and Roblox (robux) intentionally obfuscate real currency.
>“Some children talked about various strategies they used to protect themselves from commercial influence, such as not visiting the in-game shop or doing chores (like vacuuming) instead of playing video games,” said the researchers. “Social influence was added to the commercial pressure, where the children wanted to stay updated on ‘skin-trends’ and to belong in-game among peers.”

Someone had to say it: Scientists propose AI apocalypse kill switches
>"AI-relevant compute is a particularly effective point of intervention: It is detectable, excludable, and quantifiable, and is produced via an extremely concentrated supply chain," the researchers argue.
>In situations where AI systems pose catastrophic risks, it could be beneficial for regulators to verify that a set of AI chips are operated legitimately or to disable their operation (or a subset of it) if they violate rules.
>Modified AI chips may be able to support such actions, making it possible to remotely attest to a regulator that they are operating legitimately, and to cease to operate if not.
>Specialized co-processors that sit on the chip could hold a cryptographically signed digital “certificate,” and updates to the use-case policy could be delivered remotely via firmware updates. The authorization for the on-chip license could be periodically renewed by the regulator, while the chip producer could administer it. An expired or illegitimate license would cause the chip to not work, or reduce its performance.

The European Union Expands Digital Crackdown on Toxic Content, Dodgy Goods to All Online Platforms
https://archive.md/OjBu0
>That means thousands more websites could potentially be covered by the regulations. It includes popular ones such as eBay and OnlyFans that escaped being classed as the biggest online platforms requiring extra scrutiny.
>“Users, Member States and platforms can now use the tools under the DSA to shape a safer and more transparent online world," European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager said in a press release. “This is a big milestone that reflects our fundamental EU values and principles.”
>Under the DSA, platforms must also be transparent about digital ads, including informing users why they're being shown a specific advertisement and who paid for it. Ads can't target users based on “sensitive data” such as political or religious beliefs and sexual preferences. Platfoms must explain content moderation decisions, and will have to tell users why their post was taken down or account suspended.
Signal Finally Rolls Out Usernames, So You Can Keep Your Phone Number Private
https://archive.md/gR7NI
>Today, Signal launched the rollout in beta of a long-awaited set of features it's describing simply as “phone number privacy.” Those features, which WIRED has tested, are designed to allow users to conceal their phone numbers as they communicate on the app and instead share a username as a less-sensitive method of connecting with one another. Rather than give your phone number to other Signal contacts as the identifier they use to begin a conversation with you, in other words, you can now choose to be discoverable via a chosen handle—or even to prevent anyone who does have your phone number from finding you on Signal.
Study finds anti-piracy messages backfire, especially for men
https://archive.md/wyAP7
>Threatening messages aimed to prevent digital piracy have the opposite effect if you're a man, a new study from the University of Portsmouth has found. According to the research, women tend to respond positively to this kind of messaging, but men typically increase their piracy behaviors by 18%.
>"We delved into the interplay between gender, attitudes towards piracy and reactions to anti-piracy messages. And what we found is that when it comes to fighting piracy, one size definitely doesn't fit all."
>Whitman added, "A threatening message might emphasize the legal ramifications, the risk of prosecution or the risk of computer viruses, whereas educational messages tend to try and educate the consumer on the moral and economic damage of piracy."
>"The research shows that anti-piracy messages can inadvertently increase piracy, which is a phenomenon known as psychological reactance," explained Whitman. "From an evolutionary psychology point of view, men have a stronger reaction to their freedom being threatened and therefore they do the opposite."

Intel accused of inflating CPU benchmark results
https://archive.md/rZGVx
>The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation, better known as SPEC, has invalidated over 2600 of its own results testing Xeon processors in the 2022 and 2023 version of its popular industrial SPEC CPU 2017 test. After investigating, SPEC found that Intel had used compilers that were, quote, “performing a compilation that specifically improves the performance of the 523.xalancbmk_r / 623.xalancbmk_s benchmarks using a priori knowledge of the SPEC code and dataset to perform a transformation that has narrow applicability.”
>In layman’s terms, SPEC is accusing Intel of optimizing the compiler specifically for its benchmark, which means the results weren’t indicative of how end users could expect to see performance in the real world. Intel’s custom compiler might have been inflating the relevant results of the SPEC test by up to 9%. For more technical details (many of which are, frankly, beyond my level of compsci understanding) check out the reports from ServeTheHome and Phoronix, via Tom’s Hardware.

Tank controls are calles tank controls because they control like a tank, you can´t strafe with tank controls, half of the games you posted allow you to strafe, and they also allow you to move while aiming, thus not tank controls, don`t pretend GOW allowing you to strafe, sommersault sideways to dodge, sprint and vault from cover on top of diagonal movement is somehow comparable to RE4, if anything RE4 proves its not the tank controls in of itself, but the way these are handled alongside the rest of the game
>>235716
>You are controlling some average dude, with average skills, who is just trying to defend himself and survive, so feeling vulnerable is the whole point of it.
you should feel vulnerable because enemies are tough and the situation is threatening and stressful not because the developer artificially cripples you with the control scheme, immersive sims like picrelated show you can have immersive gameplay and horror without busting your balls

i should be afraid of the zombie, not casually luring him into a corner and taking advantage of turning speeds to run past him on my epin RE2 100% pacifist meme run like the speedtrannies do...

>“Uncharted 2 was the most fun I had making any of the games I’ve worked on because Uncharted 1, a lot of people loved it, but it wasn’t this huge success. It was successful enough again that we made Sony happy, we made enough money. But with Uncharted 2 we felt like we had something really special, like we all knew it, and we knew we were flying in under the radar, and no one was going to expect what we were about to deliver.
>“And I remember we’d spend late nights playing the multiplayer as well, and there was just this camaraderie and the stress wasn’t there, and afterwards everything has been incredibly stressful, after Uncharted 2, because now you’re no longer flying under the radar, now everybody is expecting something to be great.
>“And you have to think, ‘how do we make it great and how do we do it in a way that doesn’t feel like we’re just repeating ourselves?’ So you always have to make it great and new, which is really, really hard.”

http://web.archive.org/web/20240229201228/https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/some-tekken-8-players-express-anger-as-the-game-adds-microtransactions/
>In a lengthy tweet posted on X last week, Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada replied to a follower complaining about the use of microtransactions, by saying they were necessary to keep the game alive.
>“Development costs are now 10 times more expensive than in the 90’s and more than double or nearly triple the cost of Tekken 7,” he said. “Even the Fight Lounge servers are costly to maintain.
>“In the past there weren’t so many specs and there wasn’t online. Plus they didn’t have such high resolution and high definition. Now, so many people want the game to run and be supported for a long time. It costs money to continually update the game for that reason.
>“However, [the follower] probably only keeps good memories of the old games he experienced as a boy and does not pay attention to these changing times and increasing costs. The economic situation and everything else is changing.
>“If we simply do nothing as he suggests, the game will simply stop running in a few months. I think that is what he wants. So there is no point in talking to him about these realities. He wants us to stop economic activity and stop updating and supporting the game.”

Sweet Baby employees incite harassment campaign against Steam curator
https://archive.md/Oiqyb
>Individuals who work with Sweet Baby Inc. have begun a harassment campaign against the creator of the Sweet Baby Inc. Detected Steam curator.
>The curation page is intended to inform users whether a game has relied on Sweet Baby’s “narrative consultation” service.
Critics of Sweet Baby believe that their mission of promoting inclusivity is done at the expense of a game’s narrative quality. Meanwhile the >Sweet Baby employees criticize the curator for being ideologically motivated against “woke ppl” and have mocked the curator’s attempts to legitimize their work by avoiding “loaded language” and instead focusing on informing consumers.
>The employees in question, Chris Kindred and Felix Kramer have both mentioned the curator, meanwhile Kindred has encouraged their followers to mass flag the curator, as well as his personal Steam account (seemingly to punish him).
>Kindred also claims that the curator runs afoul of Steam’s Code of Conduct which says “interactions should not be abusive, disparaging, or inflammatory, nor create an environment that is unwelcoming”. However as stated previously, the curator has been tidying up their page in order to focus on informing consumers.
>Kramer on the other hand, accuses the curator of being able to arbitrarily list any game they want as being involved with Sweet Baby and questions its accuracy and legitimacy. However the tweet has since received a community note which explains the curator uses Sweet Baby’s own website as a resource. They also use the game’s credits and verify their involvement before posting. You can check out the Sweet Baby Inc detected curator here.

Electronic Arts laying off 5% of total workforce
https://archive.md/eFUqB
>We are entertaining, inspiring, and connecting more people with more content and deeper experiences than ever before. Over the last year, we have organized our company to further empower our creative leaders to deliver our strategic priorities of entertaining massive online communities, telling blockbuster stories, and harnessing the power of community in and around our games. These actions have positioned us to build bigger, bolder experiences for hundreds of millions of players and fans around the world.
>We are also leading through an accelerating industry transformation where player needs and motivations have changed significantly. Fans are increasingly engaging with the largest IP, and looking to us for broader experiences where they can play, watch, create content, and forge deeper connections. Our industry exists at the cutting edge of entertainment, and in today’s dynamic environment, we are advancing the way we work and continuing to evolve our business.
>As a company full of creators and storytellers, we believe in the value of teams innovating together, and continue to learn and adopt new ways of collaborating to grow and serve our global communities. Given how and where we are working, we are continuing to optimize our global real estate footprint to best support our business. We are also sunsetting games and moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry. This greater focus allows us to drive creativity, accelerate innovation, and double down on our biggest opportunities — including our owned IP, sports, and massive online communities — to deliver the entertainment players want today and tomorrow. Lastly, we are streamlining our company operations to deliver deeper, more connected experiences for fans everywhere that build community, shape culture, and grow fandom.
>In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce. I understand this will create uncertainty and be challenging for many who have worked with such dedication and passion and have made important contributions to our company. While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams. Our primary goal is to provide team members with opportunities to find new roles and paths to transition onto other projects. Where that’s not possible, we will support and work with each colleague with the utmost attention, care, and respect. Communicating these impacts has already begun and will be largely completed by early next quarter.
>I want to extend my appreciation to everyone who has helped contribute to EA’s ongoing story. We are a team that leans into our values to lead the future of entertainment, and I look forward to what we will create together. Thank you for all that you do.

‘Persona’ Series English Localizer Decries Recently Fired ‘Lovely Complex’ Dub Writer Not For Bad Work, But For Proving “Culture Warrior Weirdos” Right
https://archive.md/8wD0Z
>As previously reported, following his publishing of a lengthy manifesto in which he bragged about how he “definitely hated” the series and went out of his way to alter its entire narrative – from changing character personalities to turning a feminine male into a transgender woman – Discotek fired Lovely Complex localizer Brendan ‘JelloApocalypse’ Blaber from their roster of in-house translators.
>“Frankly, having the dub come out this good in the end is a little frustrating,” bragged Blaber in the Patreon post which led to his firing. “Anyone who watched this show as a kid and has fond memories of it and revisits the dub will think ‘Wow! It’s just as good as I remembered!’ No it isn’t. We made it good. This show SUCKED!!!”
>However, rather than condemn Blaber for his absolute failure to properly do his job, Leonoudakis – who many may remember for either her work as a localization coordinator on the recent current gen ports of Atlus’ Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden or for proudly boasting about how she ran roughshod over HIDIVE’s English subtitles for My Life As Inukai-San’s Dog – instead chose to chastise him for giving ammo to the “culture war weirdos” who regularly chastise her industry’s ideological graffiti.
>Taking to Twitter on February 12th to share her opinion on the matter, the localizer began, “Do I know it’s in my best interest to not say anything about this bulls–t? Yes. Is anything I write only going to be taken the wrong way by culture war weirdos? Obviously. So I’ll say this: You aren’t going to love everything you work on, but it’s your job to do justice to the work and its audience, and remain professional about it all.”
>“And for f–k’s sake,” she added, “don’t s–t where you eat. You’ve hurt a lot of careers today.”
>Further proving that she cared only about the realities of her industry being made public and not the fact that her peers, as a whole, have lost the plot when it comes to their jobs, Leonoudakis then lamented, “Every time you give the culture war weirdos fuel, you make things worse for the people they harass.”
>“Not only are you out of a job,” said the localizer, “but you’ve given them a brand new reason to send us death threats.”
>“It’s so tiring, man,” she continued. “I just want to share my passion for translation theory and localization philosophy. Instead, I’ve got to stay quiet, pretend nothing affects me or that I don’t care. Don’t fight back. Don’t look. Just smile and take it.”
>“But then someone has to fire back at them,” Leonoudakis then declared. “Someone has to get the last word. Someone has to prove to them they’re wrong. And they all get new fodder to harass us ALL again. I grew up on 4chan. I watched them milk ‘lolcows’. I know how this s–t works.”
>“And now THIS? REALLY???,” she continued in her protestations. “You know they’re still using that single scene from the Dragon Maid dub nearly a decade later as a reason why we should all be lynched, right? What do you think they’re going to do with this, idiot?”
>Finally bringing her thread to a close, Leonoudakis concluded, “Anyways, I’m sure they’ll be here shortly to tell me why I deserve to get hate or slurs or death threats because (checks Fox News ‘article’) I translated ‘gyaru’ as ‘bimbo.”
>“Remember, loc comrades, they don’t give a shit about translation,” she then disingenuously claimed. “They just want to be mad at the ‘libs’.”
Grand Theft Auto 6 devs hit out at Rockstar’s ‘reckless’ return-to-office mandate
https://archive.md/J6MFv
>They say the plan to withdraw remote working provisions for the majority of staff on April 15 represents the latest in a series of broken promises, and that it could lead to the return of unhealthy working practices at the company.
>An anonymous employee said: “Working from home has been a lifeline for many of us at Rockstar, allowing us to balance care responsibilities, manage disabilities, and relocate as we need. Now, Rockstar is snatching away that lifeline without a second thought for the workers who’ll be impacted most.
>“After so many broken promises we now fear management may even be paving the way for a return to toxic ‘crunch’ practices. Senior leadership need to rethink their reckless decision making and engage with their staff to find an arrangement that works for everyone.”
>Another Rockstar employee said: “As usual, there has been zero consultation with us: the people who these policy changes most affect. Just one of my concerns is being forced to work late hours in the office to maintain contact with global teams when before we could log on from home to attend late meetings. This will mean missing out on spending time with our families. I am also aware of colleagues who have health issues preventing full time office work who are now left in limbo.”
>Speaking on behalf of their colleagues, another worker said: “We the staff care greatly about the games we make and our passion, skill, and talent should never be taken for granted by studio management. It is together, through collaboration and a healthy work life balance and workplace culture that we continue making some of the most beloved and spectacular games in our industry.”
Grand Theft Auto 6 devs asked to return to the office full-time ‘for productivity and security reasons’
https://archive.md/zGayz
>“Making these changes now puts us in the best position to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto at the level of quality and polish we know it requires, along with a publishing roadmap that matches the scale and ambition of the game,” Kolbe told staff in an email.

A lot of the games they do are arguably indie. From their website:

Don't forget the games from Sweet Baby precursor Silverstring Media. Also most indie games these days are made by some flavor of SJW or tranny so even if you escape the company you don't escape their ideology.

The whole localization problem is downstream of IP law. With public domain works, there doesn't have to be a single authoritative translation and money can flow to translators who produce good work.
Localization under a restrictive IP regime becomes a kind of cultural rent-seeking: by securing a legal monopoly on the right to translate, mediocrities whom would otherwise be ignored get to push their own ideas on a captive audience.
Starfield multiplayer mod cancelled because of 'boring' game
https://archive.md/mZxId
>Bethesda's community has countless talented modders who spend hours fleshing out the gameplay and features of titles like Skyrim.
>Very few are more well-known than Skyrim Together, a team that created a mod in 2022 that introduced multiplayer to Skyrim and quickly garnered over 80,000 downloads.
>Following the launch of Starfield, it was announced that they would be working on a similar system for the new title. While work began on the project, the modders have now revealed that they've stopped completely.
>For them, Starfield is simply too "boring" to justify putting in the effort required for multiplayer, and they're not willing to put a massive amount of time into such a "mediocre" game.
>Starfield modders scrap multiplayer mode because the game is "trash"
>As reported by VG247 and IGN, a member of the Skyrim Together modding team took to their Discord to announce that they have stopped working on Starfield multiplayer. In their opinion, the game is "bland," and everything that typically makes a Bethesda game special has "completely gone."
>"The game is boring, bland, and the main draw of Bethesda games, exploration in a lively and handcrafted world, was completely gone... I won't be continuing development on Starfield Together, I'm not gonna put my heart and soul into a mod for a game as mediocre as this."
>This demonstrates the extent of Starfield's disappointment, considering the modders are often the most passionate Bethesda fans. Even they are struggling to defend Starfield and are now giving up on major projects.
>One of the biggest elements of replayability for Skyrim was the incredible mods, and unfortunately, it doesn't look like Starfield will be getting the same amount of support.

skyrim is pretty and has decent but bland music but the gameplay is a fucking pile of shit which cannot even be saved by mods I tried modding that shit to make it better but it only made it worse outside of just adding small stuff which is ruined by the fact that the world feels like a circus
>have you been to the cloud district? oh who am i kidding
Replies: >>237529
>>237528
Circus is a good descriptor. Really sums up how fucking hollow the whole game is.
9 times out of 10 you are accosted by the ominpresent courier or random people talking about something with the subtlety of a freight train to try to get you to do some piece of content because the developers were afraid that their audience was too retarded to even find quests or ask around.
>go into city/town
>obvious extremely hard to miss thing happens (i.e. woman stabbed, guy tells you to talk to him)
>immediately railroaded into a quest with fanfiction tier quality. zero ways to affect the outcome of anything that happens in the questline outside of maybe a meaningless choice at the end
>quest markers, fast travel, boring balanced™ combat and dungeons more linear than ff13
The worst of these is the thieves guild questline where even if you fuck up royally at every quest in the beginning nothing changes outside of one line saying "bro y u do that" before everything continues the exact same way.
Replies: >>237530
>>237529
There's even locations that are just missing in skyrim that should be there but I'm gonna assume are missing because they focused on money and consoles first
which I'm just gonna assume the devs see the world as nothing but dressing

Some really, really bad news.
Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu along with Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra will shut down in lawsuit settlement with Nintendo
>The new settlement (via court documents) of the lawsuit will see Tropic Haze, the company behind Yuzu, paying out $2.4 million to Nintendo and ceasing all distribution, promotion, and development of the emulator.
>What’s more, the company will hand over control of their website, yuzu-emu.org, to Nintendo. With the emulator effectively being shut down, the team’s $30,000/month Patreon will likely be shut down too.
>The proposed settlement will call out Yuzu as being “primarily designed for the purpose of circumventing technological measures”, therefore violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
>>237622
<($30,000/mo patreon)
It's a bad precedent that they settled, they could have fought for getting that much and won. Emulators are not "designed for the purpose of circumventing technological measures," and they're total cucks for settling under those conditions.

No, they've always been in this for the money. The jig is up and so they're just cutting their losses to keep what they can. Fighting means using time, money, and having heart. They have none of these things.
Replies: >>237638 >>237639

Yeah my bet is they found someone at nintendies who was leaking prerelease content to them and then told the yuzufags "do exactly what we say or we'll do to you what we did to Gary Bowser." Now it's an open secret that Gary is behind that new Switch flashcart, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's already a renamed fork repository ready to be stood up in a couple months as well. Also settlements don't set precedent in future cases with other defendants.

I remember from the TPB lawsuits, when they mentioned that one of them wrote a spam filter to catch DMCA complaints, and the discussion went somehow like this
>Why did you write a spam filter to catch DMCA mails?
<Because I did not ask for them.
Right in the face of the judge. That's when you do something because you believe you do something worthwhile. These cucks just wanted money.
Nevertheless, I still agree that this is a bad precedent. Remaining emulator devs should go underground immediately
>>237638
Only plausible explanation. Otherwise it would have made more sense to attack the Switch emulators at their announcements rather then wait until the EOL of the Switch. If Ryujinx continues to live, then it is merely because they did not fall for Nintendo's trap and an actual court battle would most likely hurt Nintendo.
