It still has worthwhile value if you aren't a edgy teen, It was genuinely pretty sad for a anime and the story kind of  reflects back the real world and adds to how you perceive it.
Ignoring the part of where they basically forgot to adapt a bit more than half the manga. 

I would still place it as a must watch. because most would normally have no interest in reading manga casually  and it would give them an excuse to do so.
