Your point about it originally being about valuable elements like silver and gold reminds me of anon's >>245796 point about scarcity. This is why those elements where chosen as money, right? And the reason for the choice was in order to manage the scarcity of things needed for survival.

I made an hypothesis on >>245804 for money being a symbol for not wanting to die. This makes sense if we think that any organism is first and foremost concerned with survival. It also reflects what >>245796 said on how we are still not fully adapted to being social, thence the need for money.

But doesn't this make money this thing we don't known what it is to support this other thing we don't know what it is? After all, we don't known what will fulfill our survival, do we?

Isn't "value" just another word for "money"? Or do you mean "value" in the more broad definition of "that which people want"?

In the second case, the points system analogy makes sense. We don't know what people want universally, do we? Actually, is there anything that people want universally to begin with? Wouldn't that be survival, as pointed out by >>245796 ?

We exchange because we are social. And we are social in order to survive. So it's universal because it measures the universal demand for survival... This makes sense.
