I finished Fallout New Vegas on my Xbox 360 today and I started playing Tale of Two Wastelands on my PC. I already wrote about my experience with New Vegas in "What are you playing" thread, I stopped playing at "You Will Know When It Happens" yesterday and finished the game in one go today. Pretty fun experience, one of my favorite playthrus so far. As for TTW, so far I am level 4 and got to Arefu so I can do the vampire quest, similar to the first thing I did in Fallout 3. Doing so earns you a perk that turns otherwise useless Blood Bags into minor healing items, they are more plentiful in DC than in Mojave and also offer both food and water for Hardcore Mode, which has been modded to be much harsher than in New Vegas. Really, with all the mods and NV mechanics as a base, this playthru is going to be very interesting and I am already seeing big improvements in my minute to minute gameplay just from my couple of hours with the game compared to the mechanics in vanilla New Vegas. Even at low level, Unarmed/Melee are still very powerful, but with how Fallout 3 is aimed for combat characters rather than diplomats like New Vegas, and with how hostile and unpredictable the wasteland is in Fallout 3 compared to NV, this playthru is going to be fun without any guns. I got lucky with a few grenade drops and got the armor merchant in Megaton so I already have an armor set that protects me plenty and has real potential of being with me for the rest of the game, meanwhile the biggest problem I had in Fallout 3, which was the nonsensical way Speech checks were handled(percentage based) are solved in TTW via NV styled skill requirements(static, know if I will fail them or not and scale depending on how hard the quest is, meaning no more failed Speech checks left and right for early game quests). Traits are also a wildcard that was not a factor in my Fallout 3 playthru(Good Natured and Claustrophobia), which keeps this new playthru fresh despite being so similar to F3 and NV so far, I've also modded the game to give you perks only every 3 levels like in classic games, altho I had to raise the level cap from 50 to 60 to have a nice, even number(total of 20 perks for max level). Overall, I am happy, no new mods except one companion mod so I don't have to tinker with anything further, just play the game.

>WATCHAN
Absolute state that is Nolan's Odyssey. It's genuine Idiocracy, "Ow My Balls" level shit filled with niggers and pajeets(no Greeks in any role). They hired Ellen Page in the leading role, and she looks hilarious compared to other big guys in armor, I think her character is called " the greatest soldier ever seen on the battlefield" at one point and I just had to laugh. The movie leaked a day before it released in theaters, could make for a fun watching with other anons(since it's dreadfully boring and awful to watch alone).

Gonna finish up Homura Hime tonight (at least I hope, pleasantly surprised that it was longer than I expected); then move on to Denshattack (looks cool, but the gameplay sounds like it could be hit-or-miss; described as an on-rails skateboarding game with trains).
If the other Anon who was asking about Homura Hime in a previous Friday Thread is still around, I'll be happy to elaborate.

>WATCHAN
Old clips. Getting OBS working with clips is annoying and I'm still trying to figure out how to not make them a grainy file-oversized mess like how Steam's internal clipping tool does it. I'm pretty sure it's just Bilinear downscale; but I can't quite figure it out. I know you can run games through Steam as external programs, and then still use Steam's tool, but I still wanna get it sorted while I'm thinking about it, for posterity's sake / non-gaming uses. That, and I'm still schizo about running pirated games via Steam, I've just got a bad gut feeling, regardless of how trustworthy Steam is (for now).
Also my CPU is good enough, but I feel like I'm gonna want to upgrade it come the next round of releases, especially if I've got Replay Buffer going on in the background. Lots of games I'm into seem to be heavily leaning on the CPU for some reason recently; and with Dragon's Dogshit Dark Arisen 2 coming down the pipeline, I've reached the point where I'll bite the bullet. I'm just not too warm on the apparent selling point of the next grade being "AI CPU's", so I might just use the shift in prices to go up to a 9800X3D and leave it at that for as long as I can get away with it.

You're not really missing out, some of the games are good but they're really overrated. RE4 is a great Third Person Shooter but 5 is mediocre and 6 is dreadful, I would stay away from RE4 Remake since it's inferior in pretty much every way. RE1 is a pretty good survival horror games, 2 is even better and 3 is an interesting experiment, I suggest playing the original RE1 but RE Remake is more accessible and has some really good graphics for the Gamecube. I do not suggest playing RE2 and RE3 remakes as they are inferior and play more like RE4(but worse), they also cut a lot of stuff out and made the story genuinely awful, not to mention they made Jill into a girlboss for some reason. Revelation plays a lot like RE4 but it's a mobile game so it's a lot simpler and shorter. Can't tell you much about RE:R2 or later games, from what I heard they're not all that good either. As I said, very much an overrated franchise, it has a couple of good games but that's about it.

I would recommend playing rev 2, 7, 8, or og 4. These games are pretty self contained so you don't need to know much about resident evil beyond there are bioweapons. If i had to pick one it would be 7 (and it's dlc) as that is a soft reboot to the series. Hope this helps.

For someone who has never played an RE game before i imagine it could be a bit confusing. That's why i recommended 7 as it's very beginner friendly.

I'm not sure so far, although visually it sure ain't. The premise so far is that magic is code (I'm kinda sick of that one), and the player is some kind of magitech sexbot who spontaneously snaps and goes on a rampage through the underworld.
Compared to what I remember from the only other first-person brawler I've played, Zeno Clash, the moveset isn't horribly intricate and is more about mobility than giving you a lot of more grounded melee moves. I can't say I'm the best judge of the combat system yet, as I'm pretty consistently getting C and D style rankings on the highest difficulty (I suspect a lot of it is because I'm not using air kicks and parries enough), but I'm enjoying it so far even though I'm often barely scraping by with fuckall health.
It's definitely better so far than Mothership Loudspeakerz' last game, Ghostware: Arena of the Dead. I kind of suspect that one fell apart due to team drama or something. Here he's working solo, and his vision comes through a lot clearer even with the pared-back story.
>same, one of the few quality channels i still follow

You are just going to give him a wrong conception of what a RE game is.
Anon, start with the classic trilogy, RE1 (1996) or the GameCube remake of it, then RE2 (1998) and RE3 (1999) so you get what RE was supposed to be.

You might also look into Sweet Home, both the 1989 film and Famicom game (no relation to the 2007 PC eroge "Sweet Home"), to see what inspired the series on the whole, if you're curious about that. Onimusha, the first game anyhow, is similarly a spiritual successor to the first Resident Evil, basically being "Resident Evil in Feudal Japan", but with sword combat and demons ("Genma") as antagonists. Another branch of the family tree there if you want more of the classic style down the road.

Yes and no. It's vaguely top down the camera angle changes still. Crow Country is a better example. But it keeps the principal of view distance being limited down so you get the same experience as classic resident evil without a possible bad camera angle ruining the experience for people who don't have spacial awareness.

Funny how you retards who justify the conformity of vidya talk about "evolution" when the over-the-shoulder crap is the most overdone and stale shit in vidya of the past 20 years.
You are not in favor of evolution, you are in favor of dumbing down games so that they all look and play the same so that retards such as normalfags and yourself can play them too.
To you retards is either a first person walking simulator or some over-the-shoulder crap, nothing else.
Learn to adapt instead of bitching because you are not used about a different camera angle or control scheme from the same crap AAA studios have regurgitated in the last 20 fucking years.
"Evolution" my ass, what you call evolution is actually pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Because corporations are pandering to retards such as yourself who are used to play the same shit in a different coat of paint over and over again.
Franchises (especially ones that have been around for as long as RE) evolve.
People like you are the reason vidya is so shit nowadays, dumbing down is not evolution.
>Like it or not the 3rd/1st person games are resident evil, and have stopped this series from dying out.
The fuck are you even talking about? The series IS dead.
Just because Crapcom slaps the Resident Evil "brand" on every turd they shit out for "brand recognition" doesn't make those Resident Evil games.
At this point it seems to me that people like you don't even care about the soul or identity of the series, but only about the "brand" since for people like you it's not important that a series stays faithful to its roots and identity, what matters to you is that a corporation keeps using "the brand" no matter how badly the series gets bastardized in the process, as long as the games sell well regardless of how they look or play or even their quality.

Yeah, I never got this normalfag dumb thing about caring if a game sells well to the point that they welcome the dumbing down of games or even the decrease in quality as long as it sells well.
Why the fuck do you even give a fuck about how much money the company makes!?
That is NOT being a fan of the series, that is being a corporate bootlicker.
Look at those pictures, you can't almost tell games apart these days.
Look at that shit Silent Hill 2 soulless demake, it looks no different than the last couple of RE demakes or any of those games in those pictures, and yet that raging faggot wants to argue that is "evolving the series".

The sad thing is that devs already figured out way back in the 5th gen how to resolve the problem of seeing things around you while still being able to react to hazards with a sense of your character's boundaries. You just make your character translucent. Realism/cinemafags sadly won the day with their insistence on feeling like they're watching a movie.
>>313513
That's not really a be all end all solution. Imagine the character is constantly in a room and the camera is outside of it. The entire game would take place through a semi transparent wall.
>>313513
Deferred renderers can't do translucency.

The thing these people seem unable to understand is that the game's point of view and how cameras are used are also part of the game's identity.
Would DOOM still be DOOM is it was in third person?
I don't think so.

The thing certain people seem incapable of understanding is that a "point of view" that changes constantly and forces the game to have clunky unresponsive controls to compensate for directional relations constantly being flipped around is 'objectively bad game design'. It was bad when 2D/pseudo-3D RPGs had you wander through matte paintings and flip the directional control 90 degrees (or worse) between areas, and it was bad in Resident Evil which tried to work around the same problem with awful indirect tank controls. Funny how people don't have a lot of sympathy for the former but like to bend over backwards to excuse RE's solution to an unnecessary problem. Art should be designed around games, not the other way around.

And if we want to play devil's advocate here, a credible argument could be in fact be made that Doom would be better in third person. Especially given that Doom had strong auto-aim and doesn't focus on aiming very heavily. The entire first-person shooter genre has always struggled with character-oriented hazards, and Doom is absolutely no exception. Being hurt by things you weren't entirely sure if you were too close to or not is an occurrence that happens on the regular in just about every level in Doom. First-person shooters generally should stick to shooting things and avoiding melee and platforming action, because these game mechanics fucking suck without a clear representation of your character's collision zones. A great example highlighting the limitations of Doom's perspective is the Doom II level The Chasm, where you're forced to walk across tightrope platforms and it isn't fun because there's no intuitive sense of your footing. This type of level design wouldn't be a problem at all in third person.

Trackmania forces third person cameras on certain loops, but it's probably because they would be incomprehensible in first person.

That's because a lot of so-called "objectively" good game design is bullshit, and produces vastly less interesting games than games where design decisions are made for effect rather than to satisfy a checklist. There are design decisions that will suck balls in one game, but will work just fine in another game, as the effects of game design decisions are often determined by their context and interplay with other design choices.
>Art should be designed around games, not the other way around
Both options are inferior to intertwining their design.

You act like all of the games using that method are identical. Idk how bloodborne, RE4, star wars battlefront, god of war, infamous, tony hawk, metal gear, GTA, dead space, or DMC are the same when all of them are different in there own way.

I'm glad you started attacking the boogieman in your room and felt the need to type out what you said to him. I'm not in favour of everything being the same or appealing to the lowest common denominator. I am just able to see how sticking to the fixed cameras (something Shinji Mikami didn't even want to do) would end up killing the series (the same way the devs realized).

Stop putting words in my mouth/ thinking me to be a mindless consumer. I am not a fan of those demakes and i don't view them to be superior to the originals just because they have a 3rd person camera or pretty graphics. One of the best newer RE's is 7 because of how similar to the originals while having more modern elements.
I feel as if this should be mainly in the resident evil thread.

Let's try steelmanning the point of contention here: Drakengard is widely regarded, even by its fans, as having awful controls. Its designers, however, contend this is intentional, to further express the miserable tone of its story. Is this a legitimate expression of game design, or bullshit cope?

Regarding RE itself, I've always felt the main difference from RE4 onward wasn't the surface level shift from fixed camera with tank controls to over-the-shoulder with free movement, but the deeper shift from tight resource (ammo/health) constraints and unaffordably dangerous (damaging/tanky) combat, to more of a focus on action and the assurance you can fight everything you encounter. Longer sight lines and less awkward controls are only a part of that.

I haven't played Drakengard yet, so I can't speak to that specific example. At least its dragon controls look more responsive than Lair's, which I have played a tiny bit of (yes, I turned off the motion controls), and was so garbage that I still regret donating my copy to a charity shop instead of throwing it in the trash.
Something I will say, now that I'm sober, is that discussions of artistic intent are often trickier than you'd think, as a lot of what makes a work of art really special is often done only semi-consciously, or even flat out accidental. Thus artists, surprisingly enough, often don't fully understand what they make, even though they often to have very good insights into it.
A pretty uncontroversial example around these parts is Uncommon Time's characters. FeralPhoenix's interpretation of her own characters is flat out wrong. She lives in denial of what an awful person she is (despite being aware of aspects of it) and Teagan's real-life basis being right about her, and this carries over to their in-game counterparts. Random anons who encounter her art immediately converge on truths about it and her which she didn't intend and refuses to admit. Her own actions and interpretations only re-enforce just how deeply wrong she is, and in setting out to create a work of art about how right she was, her ineptness and delusion ironically let enough truth slip through that she accidentally achieved the opposite.

Why do diehards who despise the remakes (2 and above that is) repeat this so often, without mentioning that Easy Mode is built right into the classics such as RE3? I just got done beating RE3, and let me assure you, they encourage new players to start with with Easy Mode (intentionally or accidentally), which is infinitely worse than the Remakes' casual difficulty settings. These games had cheats and full-on quasi-tutorial level difficulty built right into them, with far less discouragement to use them by the creators.

I've defended the remakes before in the RE thread, got plenty of shit for it, but this is objectively true.

Are you calling Shinji Mikami a normalfag because he changed to a over-the-shoulder camera as soon as he was able to? It's clear he (and many devs) didn't want fixed cameras to remain in the series.
>not every series need to keep going for ever.
They do if they refuse to make more IPs/make more games of existing ones. "Don't hate the player, hate the game" RE is a very recognisable series and capcom would be fools to not capitalise on that success.
>It's like you care more about Crapcom milking the name and making money out of it than anything else.
Did you even read my post? i'm not a fan of those demakes or how they cut, censor, downgrade many things.
>Look at how Until Dawn (the original) did fixed cameras, it's proof that it can still be done today.
Look how every fight is a QTE or how 99% of the game is a walking simulator. That game is not similar to RE beyond the fixed (that still moves like silent hill) camera. A camera the devs didn't even want to put in the game. A camera a lot of people still found to be annoying.
>Also the REmakes of 2 and 3 should have been just like Remake on the GameCube
They tried to do a fixed camera, but they found out it caused too much hassle. I think the problem with the remakes is the amount of cut content as opposed to the camera.
>Capcom wanted to paneer to retards who only play Fifa and COD instead.
Or the many existing RE fans who prefer over-the-shoulder to fixed cameras.
>If "the series dying" means not getting those people to buy the games then so be it, who cares about those faggots.
This is just a childish way of thinking. No company on earth is going to stop making something with a proven track record of success to swapping it out with something divisive at best so they can appeal to a small group of people. The vast majority of people prefer over-the-shoulder or 1st person and they would gladly take that over fixed cameras any day of the week.
I don't really want to continue talking about this because i feel like i'm ruining OP's thread.
>>313547
Look at how Until Dawn (the original) did fixed cameras
There was one other difference, which is it didn't use tank controls, but camera relative controls. In the opposite direction, though RE4/5 had an over-the-shoulder camera, the aiming didn't transition entirely from tank controls until RE6.

My point wasn't that the entire game is easier, but that changes to the balance between combat and other subsystems shifted the emphasis of the game from encouraging the player to avoid fights or scrimp resources, to encouraging the player to attempt wiping out enemies, regardless of how easy or difficult that was.

But the only thing preventing me from wiping out all the enemies was the camera and clunky controls. Other than that, the classics gave infinitely more fuel and ammunition to do so than the easiest settings for the remakes. Your point is still answered from my previous post.

I agree, over-the-shoulder games are designed and set to be played like shooters, regardless of the difficulty or the amount of resources available.
That's the issue.

Tomb Raider 2013 and Doom 2016. There's not much to say about TR2013 except that it really is an eroguro game. It's so easy to die in sudden QTEs and get a nasty death, plus Lara spends the whole game panting and moaning. She does have a nice butt. The gameplay is unremarkable, you do get small exploration sections but they're super linear and there are no real tombs to raid. The game is really dragged down by the constant QTEs, cinematic (instant death with a special camera) platforming sequences and cutscenes, but it would barely be considered good even without them.

Doom is much better but I still have mixed feelings about it. I like the gameplay loop, the weapons, the glory kills and chainsaw (especially how optional they are to use) but the game has too many progression systems that distract from the core loop. It's dumb to make the player do challenges to get useful alt fires or basic features like air control after jumping. The level design is also disappointing, the game is just corridors connecting arenas and there is rarely anything interesting outside of the arenas.

Palworld and Angels fall first.
Palworld is like Ark but not shit, which isn't necessarily a very high bar but still.
Angels Fall First is like Battlefield/Battlefront. I've heard people compare it to Planetiside as well. The maps are either point control or something like Rush in battlefield where you need to achieve objections to advance split between attackers and defenders. These can start in space and then move to the station where the attacker needs to land a droppod on the station before they can jump in.
It's really cool to run around repairing your cap while the enemy attacks it while you slam your pods into the enemy station. Then you can push back attackers by just blowing up their capital ship or droppods they spawn in on the land maps. It's kewl.

Fallout: Tale of Two Wastelands. I started playing last week, but I went into the game proper this week. I did a whole lot of side quests mostly(focusing on finishing one mod in particular) and I only got as far as GNR with the main quest, I haven't talked with Dr. Li yet. I focused on getting gear and companions, not to mention money and experience first, as the game is considerably harder than the last several 3D titles: it combines the balanced mechanics of New Vegas with the unpredictability of Fallout 3, you never know what could be around the next corner and you have to get as much done quickly as possible before you reach higher levels and tougher enemies start spawning in. Thankfully, the build I have been running for all these games is still powerful, melee/unarmed takes care of most enemies and since I am in the Capital Wasteland, I have my Dart Gun back. It works a little differently, the darts aren't poisoned by default so I have to craft poisons meant for melee weapons(one poison works for 20 darts). Of course, since the New Vegas poisons require Mojave exclusive components, I had to add in several poisons which use different components that are more common in DC, like the "COVID vaccine" that gives enemies clots and can be made by combining several potent chems at the same time. Grenades are a godsend, but with how much fighting there is, there are not nearly enough of them, however I am not bothered by the new DT on enemies like Enclave/Mercs/Super Mutants/Robots since melee/unarmed usually goes right thru their armor, I also added a Cattle Prod early on into the game to make knockouts viable in combat and it's working out quite well on tougher opponents(Super Mutant Behemoth at GNR was knocked out and beaten to death with my Brass Knuckles since it has basically no stamina, so it just lay there for a good portion of the fight). Armor wise, Tactical Armor(kevlar suits, military uniforms, ghillie suits, riot armor ect.) is very common in DC since there is Talon Mercs everywhere and I modded to game to have them prefer this kind of armor. I got this nice COD Juggernaut Armor(Reinforced variant) from one, which counts as heavy armor but it gives +1 Strength and DR on top of good DT. Now, for my other playthrus, I ran with light armor so I could close my distance faster and be better at stealth, heavy armor makes that harder so I am going to go with a tank run this time around, just for a change of pace.

Thankfully, since I can have as many companions as I want, Leadership builds are definitely possible in this game. I planned to have 5 companions, as per Fallout 2 cap, 3 in DC and then 2 more in Mojave(same ones from my New California playthru). Clover came back from my Fallout 3 playthru and I got Malibu from a mod, I'm interested in keeping a non-combatant companion along that gives passive diplomatic bonuses with her perk so I also got a mod that adds Cherry as a companion. This idea dates back all the way from my Fallout Tactics playthru, where likewise a companion that was useless in combat somehow was useful and survived all the way to the end of the playthru, in London I also had a similar companion in the form of Archie who couldn't fight but could pick locks for me(no investment in that perk tree needed). Since 5 combat ready companions were more than enough to serve as a mobile firing squad in New California, I decided to give a diplomatic companion a try once again. So far, even with just 3 of them they're more than enough to kill most enemies before I get to them in my slowass Juggernaut armor, and those that survive the gunfire are much weaker by the time I do the punching. So far it works, I will have to see where this goes since I am now at a high enough level to see Deathclaws regularly spawn in the wasteland, up to 3 at a time(these are NV Deathclaws, not the weak ones from Fallout 3, and Dart Gun no longer cripples them so things get interesting when they are around), not only that but in a moment I will start seeing Albino Radscorpions and Feral Ghoul Reavers, might be time to start getting work done on the main quest so I can move on to Mojave chapter where I won't have to deal with them.

As for the mod I was talking about, I am finishing up "Quo Vagis". It is an adult mod for Fallout 3, ported over into TTW, that is surprisingly well written and lore friendly. It not only makes Canterbury Commons a location worth visiting now but it also injects some much needed sleaze into the game, "tastefully" like in Fallout 2 in a way that made sense for the setting rather than turning the game into a hentai gooner fest like you would see from amateur porn game designers. The premise is simple, you get to run a brothel in Cantenbury, the quest is focused on exploring the wastes for places to put up posters and in search for models, essentially every female NPC can be asked to pose nude for a magazine(3 models per magazine, 12 magazines in total, 36 naked NPCs to complete the quest). Asking women to pose is done thru speech checks(which are back to being percentage based for this mod, but they are based around their relationship with the player and reputation of brothel, meaning that raising your fame by hiring celebrities and doing quests for said NPCs you're asking to pose nude makes it much easier to convince them), which is right up my character's alley since he is a charismatic diplomat. Very good game design right there, it allows non-combatant characters to earn good amount of money without much fighting, and any character that does a lot of questing and exploring gets rewarded as well, going to a town means more than a quest and a shop since now it also introduces a whole set of women you can convince to pose for the magazine as well. The entire way thru you're earning money and upgrading the brothel organically(more posters means more workers, more workers means more money), there is also the main questline which is how I got Malibu as a companion. She's similar to Cass in New Vegas in a sense that she will not follow evil characters, but I actually forgot how much more indepth she is scripted in the mod, she will not only leave if you have bad karma but also if you earn enough in her presence, meaning that the typical stealing, murdering and enslaving is now completely off the table. Likewise, I can't complete several quests, such as "Strictly Business" since I cannot enslave NPCs or "Tenpenny Tower" since I am not helping out those brain shufflers. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the mod author actually recreated having to walk on eggshells to not make a woman upset if you want to keep her around rather well, she will even leave the player if you have any sexual encounters with the mod NPCs if you start a relationship with her(and you will want to do that if you want to become a CEO of the brothel proper). I planned to do yet another evil playthru, but it looks like for now, I will actually try playing the good guy for once to see what it's like, that should make for a rather interesting run and interactions. Anyways, I completed the New Vegas sequel to this mod, "Coito Ergo Sum" during my New California playthru and once I make it to the Mojave chapter, I will likely do so again since it's also a well designed and lore friendly mod that integrates mechanically into New Vegas just as well as Quo Vagis with Fallout 3, so this entire questline is just part 1 of what's to come.

Very tired despite having an overall slow day. The slow day hasn't stopped me from having to do a dozen time consuming things and not having any time to myself. Its to be expected though. Just hoping I can get some of this evening to myself.

Part of me wants to work on doing an autistic video project I've got all the supplies for now but any time I have the time to do it, I don't have the energy/autism needed.

Modding some short story sidequests into Stalker Anomaly. Got one nearly done, bloodsucker hunt in Truck Cemetery with variable rewards for performance and a working RF transmitter segment. I'm teaching Claude how to do this as well as I go through it, so if I do it right I can just tell the AI to take a basic script and turn it into a similar scripted mission that will only need some touching up instead of needing to be made from scratch.

That sounds really interesting. So you do a mission yourself, then use that to train the AI to "understand" how to implement something similar? Can it then expand the scope of the mission to incorporate other objectives, triggers, etc? How flexible can it get?

>So you do a mission yourself, then use that to train the AI to "understand" how to implement something similar? Can it then expand the scope of the mission to incorporate other objectives, triggers, etc? How flexible can it get?
It's more like I wrote a starter script (script in the text sense, outlining the dialogue and events and characters and such) and gave it the script (along with an unpacked gamedata for it to use as reference), then told it to make the best quest outline it could. Then, when it fucked that up in every way possible, I unfucked it and gave feedback: First so it would not crash the game on start, then about how the quest events were working/not working, then about the specifics of how certain things spawned, then about how the reward structure and progress tracking should actually work, etc. At each of these I generally did a bunch of manual fixes, but also tested it on stuff that I knew how to fix by asking it to fix them without instruction.

Throughout all of this, I also had it take its own notes on the code of the mod, and sometimes specifically told it to take notes of certain things, or examine other mods I downloaded as reference and take notes based on how they worked versus how mine works. Right now, I'm having it do a big rework of the tracking and reward structure of the quest on its own, and I'm going to see how it does. I have my own, correct version of about ~70% of the rework in another folder (minus the most tedious changes) so if it fucks up, I'll tell it "this is how you do it".

The current quest structure, pre-rework, is
>Butcher in Garbage gives you a task to go look for a guy who went out a few days ago to hunt a bloodsucker
>You can ask for some details and find out that he has an RF transmitter you can track, which updates the objective to include that frequency
>You go to the target area and can find the guy, he's dead
>Also there are two bloodsuckers there, not just one, and they ambush you after you grab the guy's PDA
>You can run or fight, both are valid options
>If you just get away, you get 5000RU
>If you kill one sucker, you get another 5000RU bonus
>If you kill both, you get the 5k+5k and some medical supplies
>There is unique dialogue depending on what you do

Post-rework, instead of the bloodsuckers spawning in when you grab the PDA, they'll already be nearby, but they're custom versions with slightly less aggressive personalities so they may run if you wound them. The quest is intended to track if one or both have seen you (which implies you've seen them), and if you've killed one or both. At the end, the rewards are the same, based on kills, but there are multiple different dialogue outcomes based on what you actually saw, and what you did.
That's if it works though, I'm not entirely sure my method for tracking "did you see them" will function 100% correctly.

Double post because I forgot this part
>How flexible can it get?
Ideally, with the codebase and notes as reference, eventually I should be able to just write out a basic description of a quest, hand it to Claude, and get something that's at least functional. It's doing an okay job on the smaller stuff now, like targeted fixes to the scripts or requests to restructure dialogue, but it's still picking very stupid ways to write certain functions or making dumb mistakes like mangling the interior of a DLTX file by forgetting the mark overrides properly and such. Hopefully it improves with time and more notes.

Very interesting read. I myself have done similar modding and scripting in the past, never trained an AI before tho. Something to think about, but right now I'm not doing much modding, let alone mission design. Gamebryo is a piece of shit, janky engine, so making quests is more trouble than it's worth, especially since I already have so much thanks to base game+DLC+mods. Editing in simple things is very easy and accessible tho, I guess that's why Bethesda games have so many mods. How is the AI working out for you, is it getting efficient? Would you recommend it for simple scripting so far?

Speaking of STALKER, I've been meaning to get into this one too. I remember I played one of the entries(Clear Sky, maybe), I must have played it for 6 hours or so and then I played something else and moved on, I didn't hate the game or anything but I just had something else cross my attention. I did like the base mechanics and moment to moment gameplay, I have to go back and actually finish all three games(maybe 2 as well?), then move on to mods, sounds like I am missing out on a lot whenever I hear anons talk about Stalker.
Replies: >>313765
>>313751
If you are looking to get into it, definitely start with Shadow of Chernobyl + ZRP (for bug fixes), then do Clear Sky + SRP (same), and finally Call of Pripyat can pretty much be played with just the official patches without much trouble (though there are a bunch of minor animation bugs). Some people will tell you that CS isn't worth playing, but I disagree. 2 is sort of like if you wanted to make the first game again but also make it more like Far Cry, it's not that bad but I don't really consider it as good as the original trilogy.
Anomaly isn't as bad as some people say it is, but it's definitely not the game you should play first. It's effectively a sandbox mode + modding platform. In my opinion, the weakest part of anomaly is that it lacks a sufficient volume of story missions because the only story missions included in it out of the box are basically the default Call of Chernobyl (a freeplay mod for CoP) missions which were made by a modder and feel a bit like fanfiction. The whole reason I'm trying to create some kind of ai-powered automatic quest maker thing is so that I can fill out the game in this way, since apparently nobody else has thought to do it.

Basically, if you play Call of Pripyat, the kind of missions I want to create for the first wave of content are like the side missions in that game. I probably can't do anything custom with spoken dialogue or custom character models, but everything else is on the table.

I like to play my games in the chronological order of events, not releases, so I played the one that takes place first in the timeline(the one where you play as an Ukraine soldier). Thanks for the suggestion, once I finish the vanilla games I will definitely look into mods.
Replies: >>313767
>>313766
Ah, well then: chronologically it's CS > SoC >CoP > 2, with Anomaly being after CoP but before 2 (and non-canon).
If you played as a soldier and the name Major Degtyarev rings a bell, you actually played CoP first. In CS you're just some guy named Scar, and in SoC you're also not a soldier.

Playing CS first is mostly fine, I actually played CS first back in like 2009 or so, but there is a slight mechanical regression/change when going to SoC. Mainly
>Artifact detectors don't exist in SoC, the artifacts are just on the ground
>Blowouts aren't in SoC
>Faction War isn't in SoC (or CoP)
>Pistols actually have iron sights in SoC (I can't remember if SRP changes this in CS or not)
>Clear Sky isn't in SoC, Renegades aren't in SoC
>Some of Clear Sky's maps aren't in SoC
It's not that big of a deal, the main thing to know is that they changed how artifacts work after SoC, and they never got the faction war working again after CS (modders did add it to Anomaly).

Been playing avatars story mode. Highly recommend it. The fights are good and interesting and the plot is fucking goofy but in a good way.

Everyone gets pulled into korras time and their history and characters are rewritten. Kyoshi is the avatar defending basing se with katarra from the unstoppable conquerer toph, korra is also an avatar at the same time and is a bad influence on her friend azula, an innocent little princess whos over protective dad and brother are trying to lovingly protect, zaheer is a friendly pro bending nerd despite no one else knowing what probending is. Sokka is a heavenly guru.
Aang is normal post main story aang and is trying to snap out everyone else but theres a malevelent force keeping it going. Everyone gets little purseowner battles with their normal self verse their "riftbent" self and sometimes it gets surprisingly heavy with zaheer actively trying to keep the illusion so he doesn't have to face his evil actions, or the real azula trying to take her innocent friendly persona over, ("No! i don't want to be you!" "Oh silly girl, you should know no one cares what you want.")

The apparentt main villain reveal puts it back to wacky and I hope they don't back out of it though

Fallout: Tale of Two Wastelands. I've done pretty much everything I am planning to do in Capital Wasteland and am ready to move on to the second half of the game in The Mojave. Last week, I made a big deal about how my new companion was going to force me to go on the straight and narrow for once, well that fell thru almost immediately once she got taken out by a Deathclaw who attacked us from behind. As a matter of fact, there were two other Deathclaws just chilling in that same area, and due to how Fallout 3 enemy spawns work, the entire wasteland is now filled to the brim with them since I am leveled up enough to get the highest encounters in the game almost every time. This might be the first time I've seen more Deathclaws than Albino Radscorpions in my run, and these aren't the pussy Fallout 3 Deathclaws but the deadly New Vegas ones, not to mention I don't have the crutch of being able to cripple them easily with the Dart Gun anymore. Suffice it to say, my character's mental state was ruined by this senseless murder, and death of Cherry in Point Lookout via Smuggler ambush didn't help matters. Last straw came during the main quest, when Enclave killed Dad, at that point my character decided that nothing good happens in Capital Wasteland and he's leaving this shitheap behind. This essentially letting The Enclave win, but frankly, why should I care? The water purifier and Brotherhood are forced onto the player in 3, glad that I have an option of ignoring them altogether once Citadel opens up and Enclave starts spawning in. There were mentions of democracy and proper civilization out West from several sources, so that's where he will be heading next. This means that not only is my character back to being evil, he has been broken more than any other one of my protagonists so far, with the exception of my London and Fallout 3 characters that were living filth. He's not quite there yet, but he's on that path, the way he figures there is no point in trying to do right or help anyone since The Wasteland will just take it all away from you when you least expect it, might as well screw over others and give in to your own petty pleasures and sadistic urges. This means stealing, murdering and enslaving is back on the menu, I've been targeting young women in settlements as my character's justification is that if he's not happy, neither should anyone else.

Malibu's spot has been taken by the second companion from that same mod, ironically enough her rival(of sorts) if she was still alive. Zen is a very interesting companion, she has a good companion perk and an ability to repair all your gear on the go for free(you can take your caps back, so it's essentially free if you have enough), the downside is that she has the stupid Fallout 3 companion AI, which means she will engage in any and all fights if she's close enough to an enemy, meaning stealth is much harder. Companion Wheel also doesn't work with her, which means I have to engage in a conversation with her or use third party mods that control companions when I want to give her commands or open inventory. She is a very powerful companion but annoying to manage in comparison to the more professionally done vanilla companions, regardless she is something of a mix between a personal field assistant and a rebound GF. My character has a complex about keeping her alive as to not let the Deathclaw Incident happen again, so that's another reason to get out of The Capital Wasteland as soon as possible. Thankfully, an Enclave Soldier was gracious enough to lend her a Gauss Rifle(semi auto one from Fallout 2, not the one shot from Fallout 3/New Vegas, so it's even more OP) so if anything, I need to start worrying about Clover since her Riot Shotgun doesn't really penetrate armor too well.

Speaking of gear, I am loving the Juggernaut Armor look. Cattle Prod and Stun Baton goes well with it, alongside a Riot Shield I found in Vault 101 when I did Trouble on the Homefront. My playstyle this run fits the bill as well, I'm a big hunk of shit that charges(slowly) at the enemy, keeping them at bay from my companions, while they fire at them from behind. Clover's shotgun does good work against unarmored enemies and Zen's Gauss Rifle from the back pretty much clears out anything that isn't immediately murdered at close quarters. I absolutely do not miss using guns or even the Fallout 3 Dart Gun, grenades and thrown weapons are good enough for me, meanwhile fighting in close quarters is immensely satisfying(and effective), especially now that I am so heavily armored. Leadership build like this means I got to have a ton of stimpacks on hand, sometimes it's better to hang in the back and heal my companions rather than joining in the fight, so I found that more often than not I turn in tech for the Outcasts for Stimpacks rather than Frag Grenades, which is the exact opposite of what I did back in my Fallout 3 playthru. I modded in a whole bunch of makeshift weapon recipes, that includes thrown and grenades, so most of my throwing weapons come from scavenged crap(for example, Baseball Grenades made using Baseballs and Frag Mines, Makeshift Throwing Spears made from Pool Cue+Duct Tape+Knife combo ect.). This adds a new element to exploring, since now rather than looking out for grenades and meds I am also actively looking out for key scrap components to make more thrown weapons. The biggest problem with Fallout 3's loot table was that there was too much useless trash lying around so most of the items you found were left on the ground(unless you were using them as ammo for the Rock It Launcher), this problem has thankfully been solved now and a junk pile can potentially be just as useful as a first aid kit.

Overall, I am still having a blast and I feel like this build is now finally bearing fruit after all this time. The other runs I had so far feel like a build up to this one, and this run feels like the final exam of everything I've learned. This is as far as I am going to go in The Capital Wasteland chapter, unfortunately, unless I want to continue doing the main quest or do some DLCs. This means that I will likely head straight into The Mojave and begin the second half of the game next week, hell maybe even over the weekened.

I was trying out Fug Bables with the Plus mod since it updated a couple months ago. I like the new status effect medals. The stuff the game could let you do with poison in the original game was really cool and I like the idea of needing to give yourself debuffs to trigger powerful effects.

Online clients are where I cut my teeth and they are automated so that I could internalize a lot of rules and concepts. The books are because there is plenty of theory on defense and offense that I want to learn to improve my game. RB1 is a recommended starting point. The video is because pic related is how you score hands and anything under 5 points (han) requires understanding what parts of a hand add up to your fu (mini points) so you can get your final score. The hand value also changes depending on if you are the dealer or not. It's a process, but I'm committed to learning this game properly so I'll put in the effort.

Correcting a massive amount of typos and inconsistencies of names in the only non-hearing impaired English subtitle set for an old Japanese movie. I really don’t know if they’re accurate to the original script (not sure if there’s a dump of it out there to readily compare against), but at least now they won’t be an annoyance just to try to read. Seriously, I don’t know how some of this shit happens in the first place. Letters that should be “t” winding up as “f” (“Lefs go”), “H” being written as “l-l”, constantly having the exclamation “What!?” written as “Wh atl?", etc.

There was a similar issue with this localization of an entry in this major franchise where the "d" was replaced by "ol" in some instances. What's funnier is that I never noticed it until someone on a forum pointed it out and said something along the lines of "I thought they were talking about X and I was confused as fuck but it was just this typo"

With typesetting, some fonts admittedly don't have certain characters, or have them paywalled unless you fork over money for a license. I remember having to fudge a hyphen out of another character that was reasonable to convert, and then using it as a resizable image of a hyphen where needed. Obviously the best idea there is to just choose another font, but sometimes it's too late but the time that realization kicks in and things have to be consistent. That said, I don't think I've ever personally seen a font that locked free users out of actual letters. Numbers are bad enough, but at least those can be typed out if need be.

Part of me wonders if it the prior subs were made via some sort of algorithm to try to convert a handwritten or printed transcript into digital text, but in those cases, and especially the latter, just, why even do that in the first place? And these subs also predate the modern AI crazy by like a decade, so it can't be due to that either.

Timing feels a bit off. Not horrible, and actually seems to correct itself to some degree as it goes on, but I'm guessing they were originally made around for a different upload than the multi-audio one most people go for as a torrent these days.

Fallout Tale of Two Wastelands, finally in the Mojave chapter. Since I already have all the gear and levels I want, I am mostly focusing on the main quest rather than going out of my way to do content. Still, I did help out the Powder Gangers for free Dynamite, among a few other side quests, and finally having access to unarmed moves is a blessing, pretty much switched to unarmed full stop because of that. TTW is usually pretty well balanced, but I do wish that some content, like unarmed moves, were available earlier in the DC chapter as well, by the time you unlock them you're more than halfway thru the game, unless you rush to Vegas first and then come back to DC. Speaking of unarmed, I got access to Love & Hate again, this set of playthrus really made me fall in love with this weapon and I think I will make it my main again. I'm dropping enemies left and right as is, don't really need more damage, altho I do have a Micro Sledge from Tactics saved up for special occasion via mod. Other than that, I have a mod that massively increases spawn rate for certain encounters to make the game more lively(and increase difficulty for TTW players like myself), this let me grind enough dead Legion(killed by NCR since I don't want their hitsquads) to have as many Throwing Spears as I want, much like in New California playthru. Throwing weapons in this game are pretty cool, but in vanilla New Vegas you will never have enough of them to use them as your main weapon, unless you go to Dead Money and bring in a hundred spears maybe. Other than that, Outcasts and Legion keep me supplied with pretty much endless supply of Frags and Powder Gangers supplement me with Dynamite, so life is good.

I got a new companion to replace the dead ones from DC chapter, one of them is Daria. It's a new mod I installed, the writing and voice acting is...not very good. I've always had very low expectations from Nexus companion mods and this one is about right, she is a very good companion from the mechanics standpoint for explosives players like myself, however. She supplements this playstyle perfectly and she's a demon with a launcher, gave her a Grenade Machinegun and she tears ass with it. Too much, maybe, since her friendly fire did cost me, with a few innocent NPCs turning aggro(most notably turning NCR hit squads against me yet again, altho that was early on and I still had a pardon so this wasn't a big deal). I like having a Powder Ganger around, altho it's best not to think too hard on how there was a woman in the all male penitentiary, it was either her or that asshole Oliver Swanick as far as companion mods went so the choice was clear. I've also had another companion briefly, a close friend from my New California playthru, but she suffered a tragic end at the hands of a super mutant with an RPG. I've got a replacement for her, but I think I got to do a few quests elsewhere first. Right now, my current crew is pretty good anyways, between Clover doing great work at close range with her Riot Shotgun and Zen picking off targets at range with her Gauss Rifle, if anything is still alive by the time Daria gets out her Grenade Machinegun, that problem is soon fixed. I rarely have to get involved these days, unless I want to throw a frag or a spear here or there.

I'm about halfway thru with the Mojave chapter, I am at the point where if I do one more quest for House I will turn Legion hostile and lose the ability to do the main quest for NCR so I am doing as much as I can while I can. I was briefly considering doing a Legion run this time around, my character not only sees the wisdom of an entity like Ceasar civilizing lawless lands thanks to his upbringing in the Capital Wasteland and witnessing first hand how much of a shithole that region was, but he's also a sadistic prick so he enjoys what he they do to prisoners and slaves, women in particular. However, House just offers a better alternative, with his promise of bringing back the pre-war glory days, maybe even space travel, not to mention comfy digs and good pay. I think I will do some side questing before I continue with the main questline, but I am gunning for the finish line. Of note is that I still haven't gone to Zion, so I still haven't gotten neither War Club or Compliance Regulator, the two most powerful tools at my arsenal during my New California and New Vegas playthrus. I simply don't need either, I'm fine on the melee weapons front and my MVP as far as ranged utility weapons go is The Dart Gun, but I might just visit the DLC solely because I like exploring the canyon.

I really wanted to like this game, but I just can't. The story is ass, gameplay is ass, it's pretty overrated. I do applaud them for getting the atmosphere down pretty well, but everything else is a pass for me. It was an interesting experiment for sure, if nothing else.

>I really wanted to like this game, but I just can't. The story is ass, gameplay is ass, it's pretty overrated.
I agree. The late 40s atmosphere when you're driving around is really well done sometimes, but the game is a barely interactive prewritten TV show with a story that is either not present (Traffic and Homicide desks) or retarded (the rest). Some cases are interesting but they don't hold up on a replay since the cases and the story always plays out the same way. It's too long for me to recommend playing it just for the experimental value. At most it's a curiosity because the crazy risk taking in development could never happen for a AAA game made in the last decade.

Something tells me that GTA 6 will also be a pre-scripted TV show with barely any gameplay. GTA 5 was already heading in that direction and with how dumb the current generation of casual console gamers is, there is zero demand for something that is actually good. Hell, I bet the brand is enough to make back the money, pretty depressing. For better or for worse, LA Noire and Max Payne 3 were the last time Rockstar did something original, since then it's just been GTA 5 slop with a small break to ruin Red Dead Redemption and shit out some of the worst remasters in gaming history with the Definitive Edition.

I have nostalgia from both games, as the first one was one of my first DS games. But I adknowledge they have major flaws.
I wouldn´t call the first Rush game "hold right to win". If anything after the first two levels it becomes hard as hell in a bullshit way with a ridiculous amoint of bottomless pits. That tipical DIMPS level design shit and making you stop to fight enemies were the major problems with the game.
Rush Adventure has less bullshit like that level design-wise. But it became way too easy. Still liked the game and I remember the different ship minigames being surprisingly entertaining and the crafting stuff not as tedious as it could have become.
It probably helped in my enjoyment of both games that I want to pet Blaze.

Fallout 4, the final Fallout game I plan on playing in my year long marathon. So far I am having a great time, it is a nice change of pace to play a different style of action RPG after playing the same game 3 times in a row, especially when 2 of those times were on an aging 7th gen console. Despite the game being over 10 years old now, it's nice to play something with a more advanced engine and more modernized FPS mechanics, and yet the game still feels similar to the other 3D titles at the same time. I already played this kind of Fallout before with this built recently, during my London run. While that game has much more polished encounters and actual RPG mechanics, the moment to moment gameplay is largely the same, so you could say I know what to expect from this playthru. My character(Bell), thanks to Emil Pagliarulo, has a rather interesting backstory. It's been confirmed to be canon that Nate is the guy in the Fallout 1 intro that laughs at the Canadian being executed on TV, which is to say he finds war crimes funny. I integrated that into his backstory, during the annexation of Canada he did some fucked up shit, and a lot of that was under the effects of Psycho since they gave that out to soldiers before the war. When Bell came back to the States, he got PTSD and started campaigning against US aggression, hoping to settle down and live a normal life, he would have probably followed thru with it too if the bombs didn't fell. Soon after, he found his wife murdered, his son kidnapped in the vault and on top of that, he was once again behind the enemy lines, forced to use his military training to find his family. There is no law to speak of, so he is once again free to start cracking skulls, now without any central authority to keep him in check, and with as much Psycho and other drugs as he can get his hands on. Only time will tell if he gets broken and turns into an absolute monster, or resists the tyranny of the Commonwealth and tries to retain his sanity and humanity, considering his world is gone and his one hope for a happy family life with his wife is also gone. Hell of an upgrade over the typical "Vault Dweller leaves his home for the first time and is a fish out of water" character archetype.

The early game in Fallout 4 is surprisingly difficult, enemies deal a ton of damage and there are a lot of powerful boss type enemies roaming the early game areas. I actually didn't bother going to the museum this time around and instead skipped straight to Goodneighbour and later Diamond City, meaning that Preston and Minutemen are disabled for this playthru, I plan on doing a different faction run anyways. The first few hours were fantastic, the game is open ended and lets me go wherever I want while forcing me to scavenge for as many resources as possible and preserve them for as long as possible, since I don't know when I will need them. After a while, as I gained more money and experience, the difficulty was more stabilized, but due to how I modded the game, it will always be difficult no matter how far in the game I get(I had similar mods installed for London). So far, I got thru the first act of the game with Kellogg, got some decent weapons and armor(including legendaries), got my first companion(one of many, as this is going to be another Leadership run) and am currently doing quests for money and XP while I collect junk, grenades and drugs to get prepared for tougher content down the line. I've already beaten a Deathclaw to death with a set of Spiked Knuckles and another one with a Walking Cane before I even reached level 15, so I think I'm good. Only problem I have with this build so far is that I don't think I will have a ranged utility weapon like I did back in Fallout 3/New Vegas, at best I will have a Paddle Ball from Nuka World that has a limited reach(which I've used in London), I guess that's better than nothing but I will miss having a ranged option that aren't grenades or throwing spears. Other than that, I am doing well so far, I already got a similar suit of armor that I ran with in London so I got that taken care of early, I even got the broken Duelist armor piece which means every attack, including ranged ones, have a 10% chance to disarm enemies and force them to go bare knuckle boxing with me, which is hilarious and a callback to my Jinxed runs. My melee weapons got some pretty good legendary effects, once I get a good set of Knuckles or a Meat Hook I will be set for the entire game(Power Fists are for pussies).

Armored Core 6. I've finished 2 out of 3 routes and I'm kind of disappointed in the game. It's my first Armored Core, but AC6 seems to have a major problem with build diversity. Incredibly short engagement ranges and the emphasis on building up stagger to do major damage make most weapons feel shit to use against bosses, a lot of them will straight up miss at those ranges even before factoring in the typical input reading and the rest are going to be heavily outclassed in damage and stagger by the handful of weapons (like shotguns) actually built for short range combat. AC parts have a balance problem too, most of them are so well balanced against each other that very few parts are really good at a niche and it's really boring to try pick between +5%/-3% stat tradeoffs. This also means that gear progression is shit, I used more or less the same build from 1/3rd through NG to NG+ and I'll probably use it for NG++ too. The only thing I changed was using reverse jointed legs, but I unlock my current ones about halfway through NG.

I also think the bosses are pretty annoying and often made the game feel like robot souls, but apparently enemy ACs cheat less in this game than in previous ones in the franchise.

I have a weekend of none of my usual responsibilities. No childrans, no work, no major tasks. I am however completely exhausted so I don't think I can summon up the will to do all the shit I've been wanting to do and will probably rest for tonight at least. Need to tegain some aitistic focus so I can work on at least one of my variety of projects I've been wanting to do.

Just want to confirm, the wedding was great and I indeed got plastered. One family from out in the country even brought over moonshine. Here is another screenshot to prove it was me(if ID changes).
