I guess I'll start.
Does anyone have any inventory tips? Every game I play that has an inventory system I inevitably:
>Hoard compulsively things that I 'really'' don't need.
>Spend hours just managing inventory in menus instead of playing the game.
I'm in the 3rd disc of .Hack IMOQ for like a year now and I don't want to play it because every time I get back to base I'm just doing tedious inventory management. I realize now it's not the game's fault. It's because I don't want to let any item go because I think it's a rare drop.
This also happens to me all the time in Fallout games.

I guess that's an issue that should only happen on your first playthough, but once you know what you're expecting, then there's no reason to hoard.
>This also happens to me all the time in Fallout games.
If you already know how the game goes, and how rare weapons are, and you have a build you are sticking to in that playtrough; then realistically there's like ten items you would be using and then you stash/sell everything else. Why would you hoard?

>Why would you hoard?
BECAUSE THE MORE I CAN CLICK THE 'CRAFT' BUTTON THE HARDER THE DOPAMINE HIT.
Fallout New Vegas my inventory is full of crap because I saw it can be used in a crafting recipe or broken down for parts in another crafting recipe or "that gun isn't _quite_ down in condition, so I can can hold on to three of them yet" and then I spend 5 hours walking at a snail's pace while encumbered so I can sell every plate, tin can, and fork possible.
Fallout 4 is far worse.
>I guess that's an issue that should only happen on your first playthough, but once you know what you're expecting, then there's no reason to hoard.
It's not _just_ a hoarding thing. It's often a minmax thing. For example, in IMOQ, towards the later discs you have weapons/armor that give great off/def in 1 element, and not just shitty but negative stats in the other elements. 6 elemental types and 6 player classes. So, in theory there are 36 different kinds of player armor/weapons to keep around. More than that, because you're filling out a party of 3 out of a roster usually around 10. And you can only store 99 items. But then you also have to keep rares like the goblin set and golden/silver axes, which means...
I end up ignoring all of that, but spending 90% of my playtime minmaxing all the weapons, helms/chestplates/boots across everyone. And then there are special trades to consider...I hate it.

This. 2D Metroids seem like something Nintendo is willing to farm out periodically, but I don't think it's ever getting the post-GCN Nintendo equivalent of an AAA treatment for the foreseeable future.

I don't think it's DEAD dead, like F-Zero, More like Star Fox or Kirby, where it's doomed to low budget spinoffs and remakes.

>>314863
I think if that were true, they'd finish re-re-remastering the original trilogy. Especially since that's what they were already in the middle of doing before Nintendo dumped BamCo's if rumors are true even more cancerous abortive WIP of MP4 in Retro's lap to salvage, causing Retro to bulk up staff by hiring a fresh crop of retards from 343i.

I've been a loot goblin my entire life, however as I grew older and time for video games grew tighter, I started optimizing my builds and sessions with only as much as I needed. This led me to realize how much loot I could get away with skimping on and only focusing on what I liked/wanted to use, more importantly I started playing around with less used or liked equipment or builds simply to test them out. Since you mentioned Fallout, I agree with what this anon said

>>314851
There is only a handful of items you need in any given playthru, and going for other weapons or armor is a waste of time unless you plan on giving them to your companions. Good example of the current run I am doing(which is documented in the "what are you playing" and Friday Night threads) has me focusing on using light armor, unarmed(bare fists or knuckles, no power fists), one handed blunt and throwing weapons like spears or grenades, absolutely no guns aside from utility items like Dart Gun or Compliance Regulator which have a defensive use to them and aren't really good in a normal firefight. I found that I absolutely didn't need to do vast majority of quests or even visit some locations and instead just needed to prioritize a few locations or quests to get the items I needed. Everything else was just gravy and I could choose to ignore it or collect and sell it later, more importantly every game I played with this build could be completed without firing a single firearm, something most people wouldn't even think of doing aside from a challenge run. This unconventional build led me to playing the games in a way I would never do otherwise and had me evaluating usefulness of items that many normally ignore. I've been doing this for a long time, both with Fallout and other games, best thing to do is plan out what gear and playstyle/build you want to make and then laser focus on it. You would be surprised just how flexible some games are, and most games are simply not worth wasting time on minmaxing every piece of gear or selling every bit of trash for money you won't need anyways. Games like this really have to work overtime to make me care and feel like they deserve to have me play like this again.

Forget the contrarianism for a moment: is Earthbound/Mother 2 actually worth playing? I last played it when I was 12 and something put me off sometime after Threed, but any honest opinions from elsewhere are gonna be drowned out by the "Earthbound fan excited to play his favorite game for the first time" audience. For full disclosure I also played and didn't finish Mother 3 when I was a kid but that was because I just got filtered by a boss.

I remember once someone defended Adam Sandler movies by saying, "His movies are not for depressed 40 year old uncles, they're for 8 year old boys still into fart jokes," and having been so accurately and utterly destroyed, I properly shut up.
I think Earthbound is similar. It's a game for a kid, maybe young adult. If you're an unc, it's not going to have the same hit.

Earthbound is just about having a bizarre adventure. The gameplay is there primarily to service the existence of the weird enemies, but is fast enough to be enjoyable.
There's also a bit of nostalgia themes.

Remember the guys who made Kirby also made Earthbound.

I would ignore what everyone else says about it.
As I have actually recently beaten Earthbound, I can say it was fun and worth playing.
It's more about seeing fun weird shit. The game is not super long either.
Bottle rockets are OP and you should use them.

Metroid Prime has the honesty and respect for the player's intelligence to admit you can't actually control 3D shooters with gamepad thumbsticks, due to its explicit lock-on targeting, this also helps free up player attention for platforming. Halo, however, is an uninteractive movie presented as a fake game, using Dora the Explorer/Blue's Clues-style fake "game" "mechanics" to make the "player" (audience) believe they're "aiming" in a "shooter", because Bungie/Microsoft has zero respect for their audience.

Reminder that Halo ≥4/Destiny/"Marathon" retains early-7th-gen levels of crazy auto-aim on console even after the rest of the console shooter industry (including its most infamous accomplices like CoD & R6) have greatly toned theirs down, that all of their PC ports back to Halo 1 retain auto-aim even on KB/M, that Microsoft's Sidewinder brand had a variety of PC gamepad designs capable of controlling FPSs properly which were rejected for the original XBox gamepad that they knew would be used for Halo as their biggest launch title, and that the latest XBox is STILL the only console without gyro aim.

This is a very drunk post, and I have very little experience in JRPGs in general, so pardon me if this ends up being more retarded than it needs to be.
From my memory (I last played it as a teenager), I'd say it is. Earthbound is like the sorts of imaginative worlds kids conjure up when they're playing together, and how they repurpose everyday objects as standins for their make-belief. It isn't so much a great story as it is a fun journey with a lot of memorable moments, aided by that rolling HP counter which pushes you towards ballsy playstyles and moments that wouldn't be possible in a system where player damage is immediate.
All the dark moments and the ending which Nintentoddlers obsess over aren't really meant to be 2deep4u, but are more like how bits of real-world darkness and struggle inevitably creep in to that sort of imaginative play. Mother 3, from what I played of it back then, was a pretty obvious extension of this.
Really, don't worry about what Nintendo manchildren think of it. They're obsessed with proving children's games are "adult" instead of appreciating them on their on their own terms. If you want to revisit the Mother series, do it regardless of their opinions and form your own opinions on it. As you say, most of them haven't played the games anyways.
>For full disclosure I also played and didn't finish Mother 3 when I was a kid but that was because I just got filtered by a boss.
Where was it? I stopped my playthrough back then at the Fassad bossfight in Fire Mountain, although I can't remember why.
Replies: >>314930
>>314922
I think you're mostly right, but that the 2deep4u guys are also right to an extent. Famously Itoi has said in interviews that Mother was meant to traumatize kids because you need a little trauma to grow up, and a lot of the weird or bad shit that happens makes sense in the context of teaching kids there's a lot of bad shit in the world that you just have to deal with. The homestuck audience just takes it in a completely wrong direction because they're manchildren who associate trauma with maturity and can't understand how fucked in the head they actually are; the only imitator that comes remotely close to the original in this respect based on the fanart is Omori, which apparently does the same thing but targeted at urban hipsters who like to namedrop Earthbound instead of kids.
Also if you look up what he's been up to both before and after the Mother series Itoi really comes across as the kinoman all of his western imitators (not to mention other hacks like Kojima) wish they could be, except he doesn't feel like he has something to prove so he just sells stationery and runs a blog now.
Replies: >>315097
>>314908
It's nutty and it's also frustrating. Mother 3 is commonly regarded as the more consistently good and polished game, but I somehow enjoyed it less. Earthbound is more massive, sprawling, and overcoming those annoying bits felt like more of a victory. It's not for everyone.

If you're going to play it, you should probably grab a romhack that decensors the English translation. I haven't tried one so can't recommend one.

Mystery, intrigue, luxury architecture.
You can hide in the sewers. You can build cities in the sewers. You can do all kinds of experiments away from the public eye in the sewers.
As a game designer, it is an easy way to bypass a difficult part of the story and transition to another area, like a teleporter. Plus sewers are linear and you can design them however you want, but are typically just simple brick and pipe and water by default which requires not much effort, but the water effects impress people.
You can scale the sewers to house an entire fantasy civilization. There are no restrictions in the sewers. The sewers are a magical place.

Used the urban theme, the jungle theme, the snow theme? Out of ideas? Don't want to visit Hell or space just yet? Use a sewer theme.

Because sending the player to the piss and shit zone in a product they paid actual money for is amusing to devs? I suppose it's also the idea of a big manmade structure somewhere underground but architecturally simplistic from a visual standpoint and something people recognize as actually existing (despite most actual sewers not being remotely sized to accommodate combat or platforming, beyond gingerly stepping over turd logs).

At least some of them still have good music despite that.

Given that a big part of poetry is an attempt at bringing out the music of a language (they're related artforms that structure sound and language in similar ways), trying to read poetry in your head as someone who doesn't read aloud is a little like a non-musician staring at sheet music.

>poetry
>rhyme
Point of order! Though ubiquitous in poetry today, and especially the most popular form of poetry, lyrics sung in music, this is a relatively recent phenomenon.

Rhyme only became commonplace in Europe ~1500 years ago, introduced from MENA poetry where it had only become fashionable a couple centuries earlier even there. Prior to this, rhyme was rare or unknown for most of the history of poetry.

The actual definition of poetry, distinct from prose, is its use of metric verse. You may encounter references to supposed "prose poetry", but that is a somewhat non-technical category employing thematic gimmicks typical to poetry in prose, which are IMHO insufficiently unique from merely flowery or "purple" prose to qualify as a distinct artform.

Maybe a bit more controversial, but I've loved the .Hack games not because of the actual games so much as the art style. Whenever I rice a desktop display, my goto is to make it look like an ALTIMIT OS. Also, in The World, the game environments are always pretty cool.
Also, nothing wrong with gothic style. I don't think any gamer has complained about "the gothic cathedral level" so many games have.

I don't know about that. I've played it a bit and watched a video going over the story, and from what I remember, it's much more focused on the whole psychological/"mental health"/"trauma" stuff than the Mother games. Even Und*rtale would be closer to Mother.
Fanart doesn't say much when even "fucked up" series like Higurashi get mostly cute and lighthearted fanart.

If you want to make games, and especially if they would have a pixel art style anyway, would it be a good idea to learn to code for some retro console, and make the game for the console (eg. GBA, PS1)? Not as a hobby type of thing where you specifically want to make a game for retro consoles, but as a pragmatic development choice.
You could still sell it on Steam or whatever by wrapping the ROM with an open source emulator, while still providing or selling the base ROM elsewhere. Maybe you could even sell physical copies for hipsters.

Advantages I can see is that it would make the game more authentic and novel compared to the ocean of dishonest pixelshit, and it would also probably make it stand out and give it some promotion. You wouldn't have to worry about making the game cross platform; anything that can run an emulator of the console you chose (and the console itself, of course) would run the game, from niche OSs to jailbroken consoles. You wouldn't have to worry that the game would break on newer operating systems, as long as functional emulators are maintained.

The elephant in the room is that it's harder and requires more time and effort than developing native PC games. More advanced retro consoles like the GBA and PS1 are suited for coding in C, which is easier than Assembly on 8/16-bit consoles, but I assume it's still harder than even coding native PC games in C with no engine (with OpenGL, or whatever), due to technical limitations and various quirks and such. If you specifically want to make a game for a retro console for its own sake, this isn't a disadvantage, of course, but that's not the case I'm talking about.
I don't know if the advantages are good enough to be worth this disadvantage.
>>315102
No, that would be a terrible idea. Unless you specifically want to make a game for a specific retro console there's no reason to do this.
>>315102
Based on your post I'm going to assume you are not a programmer, so, no do not that, start with Godot or GDevelop, follow as many tutorials as you can find, and clone as many NES games as you can.
I'm not saying that shouldn't experiment with other languages and other pieces of technology, but one thing I've learn is that when you are studying or trying to learn something new, you should make life as easy as possible.

>Why do you assume that?
Because your post wasn't very technical, you are asking if you should invest your own time in learning how to develop for retro consoles, I'm not you I can't answer that, if you asked for resources, and numbers regarding how profitable it is to sell new games for older hardware, that would a technical question.

If the nature of your question was, can I make money selling games for retro console, I can try to answer that.

>Not as a hobby type of thing where you specifically want to make a game for retro consoles, but as a pragmatic development choice.
It is not pragmatic decision, you are making your life harder by limiting your access to QOL tools.

>Advantages I can see is that it would make the game more authentic and novel compared to the ocean of dishonest pixelshit,
outside of niche communities and virtue signaling social media posts, the whole novel and authentic approach doesn't work for games, this is not food industry, saying your game is doesn't have mixels doesn't mean squat when 99% of the users look at the HD-2D remakes and call it the coolest shit ever made, when normalfags call it something pixelshit, they are talking about Superbrothers and not Gravity Circuit or Octopath Traveler.

There are degrees of authenticity.
You can go fully authentic and distribute a real ROM.
Or almost authentic where you design your game so it could potentially run on a real ROM, but your game runs on something like Godot, maybe without sprite flicker.
Or your game just looks like an NES game on a glance, but it could never run on a real NES because you're using too many effects or the palette is fucked, or the sprites are retarded.

You could use an emulator with an NES debugger.
Either you make a real ROM.
Or you make your game within the palette restrictions, either by eyeballing it and looking up the hardware information on NESdev or something, or testing it on a simple test ROM.

I will warn you that authenticity is generally niche. The majority of the modern slop audience doesn't want authenticity. They want to be lied to by UE5 shovelware. However, there definitely are people who enjoy new retro style games.
I think you should do this if you genuinely enjoy retro games or are interested in the aesthetic from hardware limitations.
Do what makes YOU happy.

Yeah, from what I could gather the big twist is that MC is a borderline-suicidal shutin and your party members are all his tulpas/imaginary friends going on imaginary adventures to cope with some bullshit trauma. That's why I qualified it with "urban hipsters instead of kids." But I think the idea of the game putting a happy face on some fucked up shit if you think about it for even a moment (but rarely if ever reveling in it, since the story is about working past all that to find some real ass empathy and compassion) is something the Mother series does that its other imitators don't really get. Undertale masturbates to the post-post-post-post-ironic "humor" it inherited from Homestuck to the point where the tragic backstory has no impact and listening to the murder ghost in your character's head seems like the right thing to do because nothing this cringe should be allowed to live.

I did a skim and the two big ones are MaternalBound Redux and Mother 2 Perfect Edition. MaternalBound tries to be a full retranslation of EarthBound the USA version, which would be a red flag if not for being based on a doorstopper from Tomato going over every spot where they changed shit. But it's also a vanilla+ hack which fixes all the bugs (even in the debug menu) and tries to bring the presentation up to the level of "top tier" SNES RPGs like FF6. Mother 2 Perfect Edition just claims to be a decensored and cleaned-up EarthBound with the Japanese cultural references still rewritten; notably MaternalBound has a run button and Mother 2 Perfect still makes you mainline Skip Sandwiches to get anywhere fast. I don't know if there's any hack that's just Mother 2 but in English; probably the fandom just doesn't see the point.

So in Omori The protagonist pushed his sister down the stairs during a fight and she broke her neck or something and died immediately. And then the protagonist and his best friend made it look like a suicide. All of the protagonist's other friends were also at least good friends with his sister. So he committed involuntary manslaughter on his sister and created a false narrative that convinced almost his entire friend group that she killed herself in order to dodge responsibility.

I think every genre named after specific titles (roguelike, battle royale, soulsbourne, etc.) seems to draw more heat than other genre names. In the case of Metroidvania, this is compounded by its being coined in response to one series (retroactively "classicvanias") becoming more like the other, though with its own novel addition of RPG elements.

It's clearly an Nintendo fanboy that came up with this shit, because he ignored all earlier action+exploration games on Atari 2600, Atari 400/800, TRS-80, Apple II, etc. At least with Rogue it makes sense, since it really was the first. But it stops making sense to call something roguelike when it's too different. Also LOL at roguelite, that's some cargo cult soundbite shit used to "sell" games that have nothing to do with Rogue. If your game doesn't look and play like pic, then it's not a roguelike, simple as. BTW, this is actually Hack 1.03 for DOS, but close enough.

This is a vague question that could get a huge wall of text as a reply, but can you recommend some Minecraft mods for me? The only time I played Minecraft modded was on the server we had over one year ago.
I'm thinking of less "autistic" and grindy mods like the ones on that server (Thaumcraft and so on) (not saying I hated the mods or didn't enjoy the server) and more "classic" ones like Aether and Twilight Forest. The ones some younger lads would call "nostalgic" and "simpler times", but I missed out on. I would also be interested in some "horror" mods with dangerous spooky mobs and a hostile atmosphere.
If you have some sort of "/v/ recommendation chart" thing, it would be appreciated.
Also, if this matters, I'm probably going to be playing with a friend.

Roguelike and adventure/IF/MUD are special cases, because so many of the major games are outright source forks of each other. Doom clones came pretty close, too, given how rampant engine licensing was among early FPSs.
>earlier action+exploration games on Atari 2600, Atari 400/800, TRS-80, Apple II, etc.
I dunno, I think all those games landed right on top of each other. Metroid probably wasn't the first platformer with backtracking through fully 2D levels gated by persistent character powerups, but stuff like Pitfall II for instance was barely a couple years younger.
>roguelite
On first seeing it I assumed it meant something straightforward like "roguelike elements, such as procgen, permadeath, tracking for optional self-imposed challenges, and complex symmetrical character/item/level interactions, but in genres other than TB RPG dungeon crawler" before I learned that it had somehow come to include cancerous metaprogression watering down actual permadeath as a ubiquitous part of the definition.

Not so much the case for something built around farting around forever like Harvest Moon, but the biggest flaw with a lot of games is simply that they have endings.

Well it doesn't matter how much older those games were, because the fact they exist at all proves that Metroid didn't invent a brand new genre. So this whole nomenclature-takeover by Nintoddlers has no weight, it's a house of cards only held up by their copium.
I got my first computer in the mid 80's, and didn't see much of the earlier games. I did play some Atari 2600 stuff at a relative's house, but only briefly and don't remember much except Joust. But on my own computer, pic (Bruce Lee by Datasoft, 1984) was one of my favorite games. And I also played on there The Sacred Armour of Antiriad (1986), long before I even knew about the NES. So by the time I got to Metroid (1989-90?) it wasn't something I didn't see several times before. And I did finish Metroid, but unlike Zelda, I don't remember a fucking thing about it except the beginning level! That shows it didn't leave much of an impression on me.

Couldn't disagree with this more. In fact the lack of a proper end and end-game evaluation is one of the signature failures of later games in the Harvest Moon series. Games are a test of skill for entertainment, and they should have a finite duration. The best part of the best games in the Harvest Moon series is trying to see how many things you can accomplish in a limited amount of time. If your game is a test of endurance then there is nothing stopping it from becoming a test of other biological factors which aren't fun or healthy.

Going on forever is also one of the mistakes made by arcade games early in the '80s, but luckily arcade developers eventually realized it was more fun to measure your high score by how well you can do in a short amount of time rather than how long you can play without taking a shit.

You were never intended to be able to consistently play an 80s arcade game for more than ~15 minutes at a time, and if you're playing for that long on a single coin you probably had half a dozen other kids crowding around the machine who would get in line to play the moment you lost. The benchmark has always been approximately three minutes per credit, and I bet if you looked you could find testimony to that effect from Eugene Jarvis who started working for Williams in the 80s and still works in the business today.

I mean, some games are highly replayable (remember all those consoletards/mobiletards who've only played vanilla Minecraft?), and some games are highly amenable to just shoving more content in the pipe. Like, take SSI's Gold Box AD&D games, that engine was basically recycled for a dozen games and on MMORPG, even before counting the aforementioned FRUA and its mountains of player-made modules that are still being cranked out to this day.

Sometimes a little more variation is thrown in, like Zelda OoT to MM, which was often lauded with exactly what I said ("fixes the only flaw in a perfect game, more adventure!").

Instead, in Arac the player avatar remains the same throughout the game and you use captured enemies to do things for you with finite use. Also came out the same year as Metroid (month unknown), so it may not have even preceded it.

Most normalcattle and even "hardcore" gamers just want the same thing over and over with a new coat of paint or one new thing added to it. Hence, dozens of soulslike but with X, or yet another open ended platformer but this time with Y. Same reason why COD got so popular, the masses couldn't get enough of the linear, action setpiece cover based FPS slop rather than the more traditional run n gun arcade FPS since the latter requires skill and is harder to make, where as COD likes are easy to make and easy to consume. The masses want more, they don't want the new, this IS good advertising.

I'm currently doing a no guns diplomat run so I could give you that loadout, however for a sneaky sniper build I would load up on AGL and PER first and foremost. Tag Guns, Sneak and your choice of Speech(if you want to pass diplomacy checks), Repair(if you want to do weapon maintenance more effectively out in the field) or Explosives(if you want to specialize in grenades). As for perks, Rapid Reload is a must(faster reloads), if you plan on using light armor(you said you are doing a vanilla run but there is some really good light armors in DLC like Sierra Armor Reinforced, Joshua Graham's Armor or Ulysses Duster) Travel Light is a good bet. Jury Rigging is a must if you tagged Repair, it lets you repair your guns with really common alternatives, likewise with armor. Toughness is a good all around perk for every build, and for snipers specifically you can't go wrong with Commando. If you plan on using lever action snipers, Cowboy is also your friend, I know one of the 1st Recon in McCarran has a scoped lever action rifle. Likewise, Strong Back(more carryweight, especially important in Hardcore Mode where ammo has weight and you need more food/water) and Finesse(+5% critical chance) are my go-to for pretty much every build, this one is no different. Fast Metabolism will help you restore more health with stimpacks(only take if these are your main way of recovering health, alongside healing powders and super stims since they are also effected), towards the end of the game you should choose Sniper(duh) and Silent Running is also a must. You said you are playing the vanilla game, but there is a few fun perks from DLCs as well: And Stay Back is good if you want a Shotgun as backup, especially deadly with Riot Shotgun(make sure to double dip with Shotgun Surgeon in that case). Sneering Imperialist lets you do more damage against raiders and tribals, but more importantly, you get a VATS hit chance against them so you can easily dispatch these enemies with an aimbot, saving time. Implant GRX gives you free daily Turbo which is great if you like that chem, Alertness gives you +2 to PER when you crouch(useless if you got ED-E but useful for everyone else) and lastly, Tunnel Runner lets you sneak really quickly in light armor, synergizes well with Silent Running and Travel Light.

You'd think there'd be more modding tools, or at least expansion packs, especially in the modern broadband DLC era. But strangely even the tiniest bite size map packs have gone extinct in favor of remaking entire games, which seem like more effort to me than campaign expansions that could largely reuse art assets.
>Was that game more or less destructive to the IP than Other M aka "The Baby"?
Other M could (fairly or not) be blamed on Team Ninja, or on Japan "not getting" a franchise that had always been more popular among gaijin. MP4, on the other hand, completely discredited Retro and drove Prime as a whole into a ditch, both in a way there is no obvious deflection for. On top of that for Nintendo itself, Other M was a straightforward project that flopped, whereas MP4 was a boondoggle that shifted studios.

If by vanilla you mean unmodded as opposed to no dlc, you'll have a high level cap and some extra perks available as mentioned by >>315300 , so you can pick a couple of roleplaying or borderline useless perks and you'll have a bit more freedom in selecting the initial stats and a lot more freedom with skills. It also depends on whether you want to complete the dlcs too.

Some tips regarding special stats:
Check out stat requirements for perks so you won't gimp yourself at the start, although they are mostly logical.
Whatever your endgame weapon will be, you probably won't need too much strength. E.g. a sniper rifle has effective str requirement of 6. You don't need to start the game with str of 6 (even though it's a valid choice), since you can bring the weapon requirements down by 2 with weapon handling perk, and buy an implant for +1 str. This is just an example of starting stats vs endgame stats. Also, completing OWB dlc will net you +1 or +2 str, depending on your choice, but I don't that particular bonus affects perk requirements.
Charisma is mostly useless, unless you're roleplaying. I think I did one high charisma playthrough where I mostly sacrificed str for it. Luck, apart from snipey perks and crits, is useful for gambling. I like to start with a medium high luck, 7 or even 8, bearing implant and a temporary underwear luck boost in mind. Note that endurance dictates the amount of implants you can get. You usually won't be needing the charisma implant, so...
Small frame trait gives you +1 agility at the cost of slightly more fragile limbs, which is usually an issue in hardcore mode early game.

Some notes on perks:
If you want a slight increase to damage and have time to spare for crafting, take hand loader. Crafting materials are affordable so that's good.
On hardcore mode, I eventually get pack rat, since I have a habit of carrying tons of ammo and other small items. Alas, it requires 70 barter.

I didn't get that impression, people think that Max would move on with his life after 2 but that's not not realistic. Someone who went thru as much as he did would likely become an addict and an alcoholic, which is exactly what angle MP3 went with. While it's a nice thought that Max would finally get over the death of his family, likewise that's not really realistic, I like that at the start of MP3 he is not only a chronic alcoholic and painkiller abuser but he is still obsessed with what happened in New York. Getting as far as possible from that place is exactly what I imagine he would eventually do, and the game gives a good excuse for it. I see this as no different than being disappointed that the third game didn't have Mona Sax in it because she actually survives if you finish the game on the hardest setting in 2. There was a companion comic that explains what happens between MP2 and MP3 and I think it does bridge the games well enough and shows exactly why Max has relapsed, it's not exactly as simple as "his entire character development was undone" as much as "Max wants to be left alone but the world won't let him, so he is going to do the only thing he knows how to do despite the fact he hates doing it".

I think a better criticism would be how linear the game is, it's literally just a series of connected arenas where as MP 1 and 2 were third person shooters with secrets to find and some freedom as to how explore the level. Not only is MP3 a linear game that forces you to walk from one encounter to another, it actively bitches at you if you take too long to do so. Minor nitpick, but I wish the game had offline multiplayer with bots, I loved the multiplayer back in the day but it's been taken down years ago. Really underrated little multiplayer mode, the shootdodging and bullet time actually work in a MP environment and I liked how there was mode that actually fleshed out the lore of the game with "Gang Wars" missions.

Just because you don't like the game doesn't mean most of the gaming populance doesn't. Fortnite is also a "respected franchise" but I doubt anyone here will be singing it's praises. Metroid will always be respected to some degree just due to the blind nintentoddler worship and nostalgia people have for Super Metroid/Metroid Prime alone.
>>315317
>The biggest problem I've heard people had with MOM is that the story got in the way of gameplay
lolno, the gameplay was shit from top to bottom. Team Ninja/Fuckamoto didn't even have the basic design sense to use the Nunchuck's analog stick for movement to free the Wiimote for aiming. Instead they decided a 3D game should be controlled with that tiny, stiff, unergonomic piece of shit D-pad on the Wiimote while you occasionally stop all movement to aim at a context-sensitive McGuffin. It's absolutely insane the combination of incompetence and arrogance that would make someone reject such an obvious opportunity for a third-person platformer shooter with great controls. Instead they decided to make a platformer shooter with dogshit controls, and then everything else about the game was tailored to fit a core problem.

I'd like to remind people that those of us familiar with Fusion knew and warned others that Other M was going to be shit before it was even released. All it took was this simple exchange in a pre-release interview:
<1UP: What most people love about Metroid is that it offers a huge, open world. It's non-linear, there's so much to explore, and you can move about at your own pace. Is that something you're going to be retaining for this game, or is it going to be more of a linear, level by level progression?
>YS: If you think about this one as being maybe similar to Metroid Fusion, then I think you'll have an idea of how the story will play out. It's still linear in the sense that there's a progression, but there are side areas that players can go into. It will retain that true, Metroid feel.

>>315381
>Source?
According to very old VG Chartz data (they no longer list this stuff in current versions of their website; this is from old research I've done from a lot of digging and I don't have a working archive link--I last edited this research file in 2012): Super Metroid sold 570,000 copies in North America, 710,000 copies in Japan, and only 120,000 copies in Europe. This would make it the 2nd best-selling Metroid game in Japan (between Metroid at 1 million and Metroid II at 560,000), and in North America it was actually be the worst-selling non-spinoff Metroid game (selling just slightly more than Hunters at 550,000) at the time of my research on this (2012?). I think VG Chartz used Famitsu, Enterbrain (didn't exist when the original Metroid games were released), or Media Create (formed in 1992) for JP sourcing back when they listed old game sales information, so their numbers are difficult to clarify. If these figures are reliable, Super wasa very popular game in Japan, and this can be corroborated by the fact that all of its early ROMhacks were by Japanese authors. It's also important to remember that Super Metroid was cockblocked in the West by releasing at the same time as Donkey Kong Country which heavily overshadowed its sales.

Yeah, that's kinda' the whole banana. They're two broken people who realize they're accidentally fixing each other, killing her off destroyed the entire arc of the 2nd game pointlessly.
>how linear the game is
This also bled into the storytelling. While the first two games did some of this too, MP3 had a TON of cutscenes where Max stands around like a dummy just long enough for a character to get killed or other writer fiat to happen.
Replies: >>315391
>>315390
Mona Sax dying was about the best ending you could get narratively, it wrapped all the way around to the start of the game, where Max's troubles start over a death of a woman, his wife. Now, he is content with his life, because he realizes that this isn't the end of the world...or so he thinks, then Max relapses because no matter how many goons he kills, he will always me an emotionally unstable killing machine that had his happy life taken away from him in a New York Minute. You don't just recover from that, especially not when you're regularly drinking and abusing painkillers. Ironically enough, what it takes for Max to get over his problems and live his life was going to a third world country and seeing how much worse people have it there, maybe not the ending fans were hoping for but once again, a rather realistic take on the character. I imagine that someone who was used to living in NYC all his life would rethink a thing or two if he's forced to squat in the worst parts of a favela. Plus, being a third world security guard/merc is a perfect direction for Max to take since he has the baggage and wants to leave the country(or rather, is forced into it) and also has the skills needed to do his new job, he's the perfect hire. Much better than the other draft where Max was going to get involved with the Russian mob and travel to Moscow for whatever reason(if I remember correctly).
>This also bled into the storytelling
You're right and there is no defending that, but I do like to think this happens because Max is now old and has lost his nerve, so the thugs take advantage of the stupid American and just gun his allies he's supposed to be defending down. He's used to the gangs of NYC, they're tough but they're not downright feral subhumans like many favela gangbangers are, so it's a culture shock for him. The scene at the start of the second disc when he finally finds the girl in the ghetto, only to walk in and have her get ceremoniously gunned down is the perfect example, he's still handling the situation like he's part of the NYPD and not like someone in his desperate situation should. To the credit of the writers, that's also around the part when Max gets pissed and single handedly guns down most of the San Paulo police department in their own headquarters, which is pretty badass.

Does any V-fag here know about it? The best guess I can make is that considering that the subject of the channel was the gen alpha game Roblox, maybe the person operating the V-Tuber was a minor and there was some sort of cringe Discord pedo drama or whatever.

Since gog-games is going down in 2 weeks is there anything worthwhile to snag? Old or oldish games under 5GBs, I'm down with any genre.
Snagged Arcanum, Freespace, Silent Storm and Citadel, and to my dismay only the BADASS remastered versions of Homeworld 1-2 are available.

<you just reminded me that the entire british underground rock / pop / psych / electronic etc scenes were all killed by mass migration into the low income areas they were grown in (replacing it with "new" genres like drill, grime, garage and roadman aka literal pipe-smacking oogabooga muhdikk screeching niggermusic; as well as a heap of foreign genres using their new geographical position to push out the native artists for sales) and deliberate governmental destruction of the clubs they were made in / channels they were spread through
Crazy how I can genuinely hate a government so much that isn't even my own, fucking commies. It varies from one game to the next but i generally hate it. Windwaker, Save the Homeland, Dragon Quarter; i hate them all, but i also didn't like them as individual games so it's hard for me to say how much cel shading affected it. I liked Wild Arms 3 as a game and i don't even think of that one as cel shading, Musashi Samurai Legend was a middling game and the cel shading didn't help me like it at all, and i think it suits Killer 7 but that game's SUPPOSED to look like shit so all the better for it.

Wind Waker is the only game you posted that is actually "cel shaded". Mega Man Legends, Jet Set Radio, and Naruto iirc are cell shaded. I don't know what that hard outline style is called. I keep meaning to post this, but keep forgetting about it, but I always really liked how Vault City looked like and could never really pinpoint why. I mean, objectively it's so plain, bland, and repetitive that I should hate it.
Maybe it's because of all the white plaster? Well, that might have something to do with it. I mean, I don't mind looking at Mykonos City with their white lime plaster. But, I don't think that's quite it, either.
Maybe it's because it's so clean? Photos of Singapore tend to come out so nice because it's difficult to find pictures with litter like any picture of NYC would have. This, and by contrast the rest of Fallout is so utterly dirty, with literal junk laying everywhere, that simply having a litter free environment and well paved roads makes it look like a million dollars. I do know that I feel like modern Fallout game suffer greatly because they don't have a "palate cleanser" like Fallout 2 did in the form of Vault city. I actually think this might be a large part of it, but I'm not sure if this is it for sure.
Maybe it's because of the Pueblo architecture? I mean, I am a huge fan of it, but when I look at real pictures of Pueblo architecture, it seems like it contrasts enough with what Vault City really has compared to every other item I've mentioned so far.
Maybe it's the porthole windows? I'd like to say that the portholes aren't the reason why, particularly because they look so gaudy on any other kind of architecture. But if I imagine Vault City with regular square windows, it just doesn't fit the Pueblo-rounded edges.
I imagine it's a combination of all of the above, but I feel I can't say for sure.

I think Poland and the State of Montana should collaborate with Japan to make the newest Metroid game, there's a lot of potential for getting the series back on it's feet. It could also open up new avenues in the series for branching story paths as each individual room could be it's own miniature reflection of the previous 5 rooms that you unlocked, but not in a procedurally generated way. That would enable a canonical link to Kirby's Dream Land 3 to explain the Samus cameo. Furthermore, due to the Polish influence, there could be a chance that Samus would be able to produce a new symbiotic version of the Metroid species so that they could help turn the tide against the Space Pirates, given that most of their ambitions seem to revolve around parasitic substances/species.

I don't know much/anything about Other M/MP4, but having read all the bad reviews in this thread, I wonder if it was really just a matter of time until it happened, given what's likely Samus' screenwriting Bible behind the scenes. Eventually. Originally, I suspect it was just a typical amateur artist foible of "my designs are too simplistic, how can I add more detail?", and in Tumblr's "don't like don't look" environment it calcified into a permanent fixture instead of people realizing that giving characteristics of poor lifestyle and disease to designs that are supposed to be cute or erotic doesn't work.

I usually found that drawfag's Vivians kind of nasty looking, and you never see most of them reposted for a reason. Anything that could have been charming, cute, or lewd in another drawfag's hands often became flat out ugly, and he kept going out of his way to associate Vivian with /leftypol/ and ship her with the OC of its tranny BO.

The 3DPD Riot Games artist's catgirls sucked, like all of /leftypol/'s OC. 8chan had a lot of different groups and opinions floating around, and the real reason /leftypol/ in particular caught so much flack wasn't that they were different, but because they were consistently, aggressively lame. Case in point, I can talk shit about one of their drawfags a decade later and immediately summon an anon seething about how 8chan just couldn't handle /leftypol/'s originality and diversity.

Was because 8/pol/ was having an absolute internal meltdown under imkampfy's reign for a fair while before /leftypol/'s BO also randomly went insane and kill his board, both events causing the entire site's political demography to shift back and forth, permanently bleeding sitewide PPH each time.

I'm still infuriated that legacy board names held such sway over sheeplike anons that mercurial janny spergouts could still ruin boards so irreparably even on a site where instant migration was supposed to make that a non-factor.

The difference is that imkampfy had anything at all to ruin in the first place, whereas /leftypol/ just maintained its position as the site's butt monkey. Every interaction it had with the wider site was an utter embarrassment, from terrible OC to failed psyops, discord leaks, the /tv/ janny blowjob video, and beyond. It only really existed as a safe space for people who'd otherwise embarrass themselves on other 8chan boards.
My favorite incident was the time some faggot spammed a couple boards with ads for a movie about a racist and a jihadist having gay sex. After a little while of this, he made a thread bragging to /leftypol/ that he was the movie's director. This annoyed one anon so much that he claimed to be a former teacher of the director's at a Los Angeles highschool for the mentally retarded, and said the director got suspended for shitting himself mid-class and saying the kid next to him did it.
The spam immediately stopped.

There's no need, no evidence was ever presented that it was, in fact, the board owner. It's rather unlikely, however, given the fact that for the entirely of that board's existence its community was extremely hostile to both tranny idpol and any idea of having some kind of Discord community. In fact given the old board owner's propensity for censorious moderation (this is what created the original split to /leftpol/), it's highly unlikely that they would have left alone the kind of vitriol against tranny idpol that appeared on the board regularly if they were actually this tranny strawman spammed in video across 8ch boards for months. If you spent even a small amount of time there you would know this.

But you're not interested in facts or real history. It's easier just to assume things about people you hate when they live in your head than to do the work required to verify anything. It's easy to fall for confirmation bias when you're wallowing in your own ignorance.

And by the way I personally despise the old board owner and blame them for serious setbacks in lefty political discussion across the web. But just as much as I detest self-serving abusive jannies, I also despise careless faggots that falsify history.

>/leftypol/ discords
There was, for instance, "Unofficial Leftypol Discord", but it had basically no overlap with the board's population, and I only heard of it years later on Bunkerchan when the retarded newfag Redditor jannies Che recruited during the /leftypol/-/leftpol/ split in constant conflict with the oldhead /leftpol/ jannies were (unsuccessfully) trying to shill to the users for an official Discord before they killed the site and replaced it with an unbearably trankie maotist hugbox. There was a Matrix, but that was MUCH later.

At this point, I think many of them love reducing all sexuality to consent for the same reason lawyers love contract law. You can make a sucker "consent" to things that'll screw up his life horribly, and get away with it because he technically agreed to your legalese but didn't understand the full implications at the time. If he tries to fight it afterwards, it becomes a gay-ass argument over whether he technically consented or not, when really it'd be better to recognise that both parties were doing something stupid and evil and that consent doesn't automagically make evil good or eliminate all harm.

I dunno, I think there's still a difference between genuine "haha it's all a hobby game to get your rocks off don't actually do this shit irl fulltime" versus "yes i do want to hurt you and ruin your life".

Like (note: I'm not actually familiar enough with the fetishes in general or any of the girls mentioned to assess the specific accuracy of the following, I'm thinking more of its general message) for instance from an old altchan thread :
>The success of Belle is more about the state of men today, think of her more as a symptom.
>Honestly the best you can do for them is to direct them to "true" femdom. Belle having straight up disdain for her audience is an awful thing. I mean in that music video she released, she's so blunt about how she despises those who follow and hate on her, yet people still give her attention.
>If you want to get out from under the Belle trance or help a guy out with that, go on pornsites and search for "Femdom JOI". You'll get women who treat you a bit mean, but they know it's play. Some are still trash though. Go for women like Brookelynne Briar, Ellie Idol, Randy Moore, Andrea Rosu, Kelle Martina. >Avoid women like Princess Rene and Miss Luscious, women like those are actual assholes.

I've heard similar apologia for an essential difference between Western Vtubers vs. Eastern. Where, like, yeah parasocial relationships and 2D/3D fetishes are inherently unhealthy, but Eastern Vtubers are both professional in demeanor and are genuinely appreciative of their fans, while Western Vtubers tend to be extremely snotty and dismissive, treating fans like cockroaches.

Say, hypothetically, you had a game you were just interested in on average, and you finished it in the near future. How long do you think you would've spent on that game?
I was looking back over every game I've beaten, and I usually have way, way, WAY more hours that anyone else I've seen. It's not because I get stuck, but just because I like to explore like crazy, or optimize/go into designer mode and spend endless hours doing stuff like that. Skyrim is the worst for me, because I'll go and collect all the books related to the quest and have a few hours hunkered down doing research and planning things out beforehand pretending like I'm going out on some long expedition.
There are a lot of games I maxed out the hours counter, only to find out about others who would beat it in like 2-3 hours. I'm so used to playing games slowly, that I have a tough time imagining beating them fast.

All I can say is, it seems that going off of Steam achievements, only 5-15% of players who get the first few achievements ever bother actually finishing the basegame of any game, often less. It's an easy habit to vastly overestimate normalfags. Case in point one of the "major criticisms" I've seen of the game I'm currently playing is an exploration mechanic that's tied to your player level each stage. Everyone seems to have issues with it, as if it's some impossible and unreasonable chore to keep on top of, yet here I am just trudging through the level and making sure I check everything for a complete experience and usually finding all of them (if not missing 1-2 occasionally), to no major mechanical downside.
The average person is just extremely lazy and low-effort, and past a certain point, it's out of comprehension until you see it for yourself. Yellow paint exists for a reason (valve saw playtesters kept walking around in a circular corridor, not realising to walk out of an open door, not realising they were repeating the same thing).

That aside, it's charming, if not enviable to be able to properly sit down with a videogame and treat it like a pen&paper experience. As I said, I do a fair amount of exploration and reading in-game; but at the same time I usually pick up and intuit a lot of stuff, so I oft don't need to linger on it much. Even that feels like proverbially eating my food too fast, compared to slowly chewing like what you're describing or picrel.

>I just realized, you know how babies in medieval art are really weird because they look like 40 year old men?
The Eastern Orthodox still paint baby Jesus that way, as their iconography is part of the same artistic tradition. Sometimes He just has a full head of hair that's already balding, and sometimes He's painted as a miniature, beardless man.
IIRC the reason for that is that the artists are trying to bring out something of how He was fully God and fully man even as an infant, instead of Godhood being something which He later grew into. You have to remember that a lot of those old religious icons and their eastern continuation weren't really intended to be naturalistic depictions of human life, but were supposed to educate and be venerated by people who were steeped in a very different religious-cultural context from most people today.
I'm not familiar with images of other babies being painted this way (medieval art is a pretty huge field), but given just how much of medieval art was in some way downstream of iconography, it'd make sense if aspects of such a common image bled into popular art of the time.

There's more to the world than christfaggotry, even ancient Greeks depicted children as miniature adults. A likely reason is that the human mind is a strange thing, and it is perfectly possible for an artist to just assume children have the same proportions and bone structure as adults instead of actually looking at them.

This is about medieval Christian art though, as far as my sleepy ass can tell. I just searched the meme up online a moment ago and found a bunch of clickbait websites discussing the meme because search engines suck. Literally every single example they presented but one (a 17th century non-medieval painting of some aristocrat's kid) was a portrait of baby Jesus, and every article gave more or less the explanation I did, likely because the author looked it up on some Wikipedia article or something.
There's obviously more to art history than Christian iconography, but from what I'm seeing so far, this actually is mostly a case of people bumping into pre-Renaissance portraits of Jesus. These really were drawn like little adults on purpose, and still are in some places. Both examples I posted were of non-medieval European art, as one was from 7th century Egypt, and the other was from 19th century Russia.
Perhaps I could find a nitter instance whose search isn't broken at the moment (IIRC both catsarch's and .space's were having issues yesterday) and find twitterfags digging up non-religious examples from the era. I also have some art history books I could dig through, but frankly, I gotta go back to sleep. Night homos.

>The GECK isn't really a replicator. It contains a fertilizer system, with a variety of food seeds, soil supplements, and chemicals that could fertilize arid wasteland
>The GECK also contained some basic force field schematics as well as info on how to make adobe-type buildings from the landscape (or contain chemicals that can create "sand-crete" walls).
So, all the people actually using GECKs are likely going to be making adobe-esque structures.

Most of those seem to indicate things were a little more complex, with the nativity homunculus stuff reinforcing the style largely thanks to the sheer volume of such works painted due to overwhelming demand, and causing it to spread to depictions of infants. Also apparently a certain amount of flattery aimed at nobility commissioning portraits of their latest heirs to be.

I think Gelbooru's main problem is they've somehow managed to get in the news normalfags watch or draw the ire of some obsessive troon freak or whatever, in spite of basically being a mirror of content on dozens of nearly identical sites. So zchan is 6 years old, eh? Time flies, as usual, but that doesn't make it any less painful/melancholy. Normalfags often take a lot of pictures of their families to reminisce about the good times; I guess my version of that is saving pictures from imageboards, since imageboards have a lot of cool/cute/interesting pictures. But over the years, I was careless and lost a ton of them. Every now and then I check back on my collection and get a good feeling of nostalgia, but knowing I lost a few big stashes that I spent years collecting makes me sad. There is no recovery from that, just a reminder to take good care of your collection, anons.

Often it's the stuff you see posted regularly which becomes hard to find, as the people who archive stuff don't bother saving it. For example, there was a period of time where this photo floated around 8chan of what was really clearly Bill Clinton hanging from a ceiling suspended from his nutsack. After the novelty wore off, it became genuinely hard to find. It took several years for me to stumble across it again.
This is part of why I highly recommend not only locally archiving memes, screencaps, and art you enjoy, but also uploading art to boorus and maybe sadpanda. Be a living part of how imageboard and old web culture are transmitted. Otherwise you get stuff like /leftypol/ fags outright lying about 8chan's history in the hopes (you) will forget why they were seen as the lamest faggots on the site regardless of politics.
>Normalfags often take a lot of pictures of their families to reminisce about the good times
Ironically digital photography seems to have hurt that, as normalfags end up with a fuckton of undeveloped photos. They don't end up in albums or picture frames, but sit on devices or social media accounts. It's kind of sad, honestly.

Everyone--EVERYONE used to have pretty interesting personal websites. I remember even Youtube channels used to have their own personal websites that were pretty interesting. Then there were those odd, popular one offs like homestarrunner, random individual webcomics, Geocities blogs, etc..
I remember frequenting a guy who would make weekly animated funny sonic gifs. Then he had a HDD crash, and everything was gone and he just quit after that.
I used to like finding very low viewed webcomics so me and like two other people could have our own little "club." One in particular the person had a webforum, and it was basically just me, some other guy, and the author, and that was it. It was really fun. Then one day the author made a bunch of really dark suicide-themed comics and stopped replying to the two of us, and we went our separate ways.
I used to have a personal webforum for some people I knew in High School.

This is another reason why everyone who ever had any level of decision-making authority at Google needs to go to the torture chamber, but I think there's a more prosaic explanation - the global economy was suicided twice in the back of the head and suddenly nobody had the time or energy to waste on anything other than releasing dopamine and making ends meet. Social media is designed to release dopamine, actual good shit isn't. You also have to consider the imposter effect of the professional-level comics like Girl Genius and even blogs like (to name a mainstream example from the time) Daring Fireball making it seem like you had to be as good as them or it wasn't worth your time to try, which isn't guaranteed to be intentional but was definitely damaging.

If you searched FFIV, you wouldn't get the Fandom ad infested garbage, you'd get a guy's fan Geocities websites in the top ten.

Definitions first:
Autism used to mean something so bad you had to be institutionalized, like Rainman. It got progressively watered down due to the spectrum stuff until now "Autism" really means "Bad social skills."
So then, logically an anti-austistic game would be a game played by those with a high degree of social skills. I think some reasonable requirements is that it would have to be a game that requires you to:
>Know multiple people
>Convince them to come to a central location
>In person
And I have to emphasize requires. As in, you wouldn't be able to play the game otherwise. So, such a [video]game would therefore
>Be offline, thus on a console device.
>ONLY have a multiplayer mode.
>Be of a completely uncontroversial, milquetoast design
Furthermore, given how the rate of autism has increased so much over the past 50 years, the least autistic game would ALSO be
>Possibly played by boomers.
THEREFORE, 1981 Warbird for the Atari.

> boomers
That's another word that gets abused constantly. But if you mean actual boomers, they're capable of playing any kind of game, pretty much. Video games go back to Spacewar! on the PDP-1 (1962)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacewar!
And that's just the beginning, things got a lot more intricate after that. For example, all these PLATO system games:
https://datadrivengamer.blogspot.com/2019/07/games-79-80-empire-and-road-to-wizardry.html
And of course all the other mainframe and early microcomputer games, and all the arcades and pinball machines that were everywhere back in those days. In fact, it's boomers and their parents that programmed them (and designed the hardware, etc.) I'm Gen X, so I got to experience that era as a kid. But I missed the earlier games, so I read about them now, and download emulators, BASIC programs, etc.

Sure, but the point is only single-digit percentages of boomers ever played anything other than housewife-tier mobileshit/socialshit whalemilkers, whereas the majority of gen X men have regularly played "core" (PC/console/arcade) games, and the supermajority of gen alpha boys do. Girls are a tougher nut to crack, I don't expect them to like the same things we do, but surely if their grandmothers liked knitting or gardening or whatever, there's something deeper glorified slot machines they'd like taking up?

That is part of it. Another part is instance hosts, and especially developers, to switch from public meatspace IDs with 1st-party support on distribution platforms, to pseudonymous/anonymous activity on platforms requiring user intervention.

That's just how things like this have to be, at least until they become popular enough there's an ablative layer of normalfags to weather direct attacks.

Basically like how emulators and patch-based game mods are 100% legal, but when dealing with certain highly litigious companies (*cough*Nintendo*cough*) piracy-style opsec is still the easiest modus operandi simply to prevent hassle.

Too lazy to search for sauce right now, but I recall autism (meaning all autistic disorders up and down the spectrum from tubthumping mongos to subclinical ADHD tendencies) are statistically correlated with higher mutational load, lower g factor, and lower overall fitness. The stereotypical "autistic nerd savant" is basically a perceptual illusion created by various types of confirmation bias and sampling error, such as the meritocratic and solitary nature of STEAM professions making social ineptitude less of an impediment.

Short term evolution isn't balanced for minmaxing
