No thread on the catalog so I'm making one. Mainly for the classic grid-based party dungeon crawler but other games are welcome too (not like it's a genre with many proper titles and it already peaked on PS2).
There are people that enjoy being put through the cuck wringer that is a teleport maze?

The lava cave in EO3 is pounding my ass and in about to throw in the towel and just go to 4. Is there a trick to it? Or just suffer and rise above?

Etrian fags ruined all discussion of the sub genre as it's the only series they've only played

It really depends on the maze design. I personally don't like EO games that much. Legends of Grimrock or pic related are overall better and more enjoyable games.
It's a special kind of itch but only a bunch of games know how to scratch of it. I'm aware that most of these games are shit.

I played Strange Journey. Everyone says the game is meant to be hard but I kept reaching the boss overleveled because I got lost on the teleport maze and the random spawns kept feeding me EXP.

Is it any good or just cool aesthetics? I almost bought a NDS this week, may add it to the backlog.

Well, I think you already know.
I thought the setting, art, story and all were really great, I really liked the look of Schwartzwelt, but the gameplay less so. The things people complain about online seem really trivial. If you're very conservative with your resources and demon sources then you'll have more than enough to deal with bosses. I don't know how you can even balance the game if you're giving players stuff like Invitation (Immediately revive and resummon a demon) or Antichthon (Deals huge damage and applies every stat debuff status effect to enemy), even if its only lategame.

That part where a hallucination of General Gore shows up and commands you to have a honorable discharge (by killing yourself) and you have to resist the mind control to do so should be in a movie or something.

I really enjoyed Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk. Shit made me cry multiple times I was so invested in the story. I only got halfway through the sequel and dropped it I don't think it had the same magic as the first.

1 2 3 kind of 4
>>274461
On PC, 3 is a good starter. I heard 4 and Untold Stories entries are your better options on NDS.

3 is pretty good and when the series startes to hit its groove. 4 also makes a great starting point.
3s soundtrack is bangin.
I got etrian mystery dungeon and like it, *smacks lips* but i’ma assume thats not quite the same. I really enjoy it though, especially the concept of rescue parties

Is it really that shit? I find it an oddity in that rather than be an "old school callback" its the genuine article due to how long it was in development. Like something out of time.
