It's whatever Steam considers a sale, which may include free licenses considering that CS2, a F2P game, is on the top of it.
Also note that SteamDB fetches their data from https://store.steampowered.com/search/?filter=globaltopsellers with the list sorted by "Relevance". There doesn't seem to be any option to sort by sale numbers.

Trails through Daybreak proves games can be normal about trans people
https://archive.is/20250214193653/https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/trails-through-daybreak-queer-representation/#dt-heading-a-fraught-history-of-inclusion
>There are few video games as long lived as The Legend of Heroes. Telling a continuous story for the past 20 years in over a dozen games, an anime, various manga, and other transmedia, the franchise has followed young heroes who fight for others by uncovering the tide of oppressive political forces shaping national borders. It’s the most — verbose and lighthearted, conflicts solved through both the power of friendship and international trade treaties.
>Trails through Daybreak’s particular ensemble of heroes, though, stands out. Gig workers, orphans, queers, and ethnic minorities come together as a found family in their French locale to fight villains who have allied themselves with capitalists stoking racial tensions in a multicultural nation. They call out and fight back against the white supremacy of their opponents anti-immigrant rhetoric, the cover for economic power grabs.
>Much of that was reduced down to one conversation between Van Arkride, the game’s spiky haired, autophile protagonist asking a new party member, Quatre, his pronouns. It’s a fair question since Quatre wears thigh high boots and short shorts along with a tie, his long silver hair not communicating a clear gender expression at all. Something left out of that single frame of dialogue is how other characters respond to the question. Quatre is himself surprised, while other party members — notably teens compared to Van’s decrepit 24 — are offended he would say that. It’s not exactly a pronoun circle, but a reasonable translation of trying to figure out politely what someone’s ambiguous gender presentation is.
NISA Orders Trails Fan Translation Site To Shut Down
https://archive.is/20240511013443/https://techraptor.net/gaming/news/nisa-orders-trails-fan-translation-site-to-shut-down
>NISA has ordered popular Trails fan translation site Zerofield to remove all of its work from the site, effectively shutting it down. The site's owners have confirmed that NISA doesn't intend to negotiate with them and that they must take down all of their translation sheets.
>Why has NISA forced Zerofield to shut down?
>This news comes via Zerofield translator Kitsune on Twitter. Yesterday, they tweeted that NISA had "notified [them] about perceived copyright infringements" on the Zerofield website and had requested that they stop their work. Zerofield took down their sheets and website, awaiting further communication from NISA on the issue.
>Unfortunately, that further communication came a few hours later, and it wasn't good news for Zerofield. After Kitsune's announcement, fellow translator Corey "Millium Man" Corey subsequently tweeted that NISA "isn't willing to negotiate" with Zerofield, and that the site was required to take down all of its translations, including work it was doing on Trails from Zero and the Japanese-only >The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki.
>Zerofield's COG Gear Omega further confirmed that this is the end of Zerofield, at least as a Trails fan translation platform. They say that they're also not aware of any truth to the rumors that NISA has offered to purchase or appropriate Zerofield's work, and they ask fans not to spread those rumors as well. COG Gear Omega says Zerofield might return without its translations in the future, too, so this might not be the end for the site.
>This announcement comes at a time when Zerofield was apparently gearing up to announce a translation sheet for Kuro no Kiseki 2, which obviously won't be happening now. Corey "Millium Man" Corey says they hope anyone who sticks around will appreciate what they do next, and that the appreciation fans have shown to Zerofield "means the world" to them.
>Fan translations are a big part of the Trails community, and NISA knows it
>This news might come as a shock to anyone who's a big fan of the Trails games, not least because NISA has worked with fan translations for official localizations of the series before. Fan groups like Geofront are hard at work translating games from the Trails series, as well as early Nihon Falcom titles, and their work is a pretty big part of game preservation, especially given what many fans perceive to be NISA's glacial pace in officially localizing Trails games.
>It's a real shame, because fan translations are the backbone of many gaming communities. Not long ago, a historic dating sim worked on by legendary Japanese developers got its first fan translation, and curios like the PSP Suikoden title and Shin Megami Tensei If... are only playable in English thanks to fan translations as well. Of course, there's also the case of Mother 3, which Nintendo still won't release in the West and which is still only playable thanks to diligent work by fan translators. We've reached out to NISA for comment on this story.

Yoshida: Japan Studio was closed because 'the company was looking for triple-A titles'
http://web.archive.org/web/*/https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/ps5-japan-studios-closed-because-the-double-a-market-has-disappeared-says-shuhei-yoshida/
>“Other than Gran Turismo, we had many great products but didn’t really have many triple-A-level successful products. That became more and more important as the big games became bigger – the indies filled the gap and the double-A market seems to have disappeared,” he told the Sacred Symbols + podcast.
>“Most of the IPs that Japan Studio had were in that smaller double-A sized group and the market became really difficult for these kinds of games. For example, after Gravity Rush 2, [director Keiichiro Toyama] tried to come up with a new concept, but we were not able to greenlight any of his new concepts, even though they were really interesting.”

>Speaking more about Toyama, Yoshida said: “In my mind, I remember his product looked like something the company wouldn’t support, the company was looking for triple-A titles, and we really struggled to get the game going.
>So when Japan Studios was shut down and he became independent, he was able to create and release Slitterhead.”
>Yoshida also cites the upcoming Patapon spiritual sequel Ratatan as the type of game that Sony wouldn’t currently make but continues Japan Studio’s legacy.
The way he presents it makes it look like Japan Studios' shutdown was a blessing in disguise for some developers, to which he may be right since Slitterhead was made and released after that and Ratatan has its release scheduled for this year.

Soyny was obviously subject to pretty much a hostile takeover by the "usual suspects" to push the whole globohomo garbage, and people like Yoshida and Japan studio and Toyama were the victims of that crap.

It could be that they're not being profitable enough, which could also be the reason why they broke up with Blizzard a couple years ago.
Funnily enough, Quantic Dream are the publishers behind Dustborn. Grasshopper only released two remasters last year, and seemingly nothing two years prior.

Is there something more definitively proving it's 3+4, or is it "just" the obvious conclusion of the date of 3/4 + support studio being credited? Hope you weren’t planning to play PhysX games on Nvidia’s new 50-series GPUs
https://archive.is/20250223153036/https://www.theverge.com/news/615768/nvidia-rtx-5090-5080-5070-drop-physx-support-32-bit
>Remember PhysX, the GPU-accelerated technology that let games realistically simulate destructible cloth, shattering glass, moving liquids, smoke, fog, and other particle effects? It only ever got deployed in a few dozen games — but with 32-bit PhysX turned on, those games reportedly now run faster on Nvidia’s last-gen cards than they do on a new RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti or beyond.
>That’s because Nvidia has quietly removed support for PhysX in its latest graphics chips, the company confirmed this week, after buyers noticed PhysX games like Borderlands 2 were mysteriously taxing their CPU instead of their GPU and either chugging or failing to work. Nvidia points to a support page from January where it did say that the RTX 50 series would not support 32-bit CUDA applications, but that page doesn’t explicitly mention PhysX, and the company’s other PhysX support pages are several years old.
>Again, we’re talking about mere dozens of games here, all over a decade old, but a good number of them were marketed by Nvidia as showcase PC games thanks to their physics simulations — and a handful of those were at least cult hits.
>I fondly remember PhysX cloth effects in Mirror’s Edge (above) and the Batman: Arkham games. The best Assassin’s Creed also used it (Black Flag, the pirate one, don’t @ me) and so did Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light.
>And as you can see in the video just above, PhysX just doesn’t run terribly well without a GPU’s assistance, tanking performance when its effects are most vividly felt on screen.
>Over on the ResetEra forums, RandomlyRandom67 is maintaining an updated list of 32-bit PhysX games and how they perform on a CPU instead of a GPU — users are reporting that Mirror’s Edge, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, and Cryostasis all have significantly lower lows.
>One Redditor claims that when they forced PhysX on in Borderlands 2, they “got drops to below 60 FPS by just standing and shooting a shock gun at a wall,” despite having a system with today’s top PC components (an RTX 5090 and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D). They claim their RTX 4090 never dipped below 120fps in the same game.
>I won’t terribly miss PhysX, because modern games have plenty of other ways to do physics built into their various engines, but Nvidia could probably have communicated this better. It’s also just the latest evidence that its RTX 50-series cards aren’t the upgrades we’d hoped. My colleague Tom reviewed the new RTX 5070 Ti today, and found it’s largely a cheaper RTX 4080, except maybe not cheaper because you probably won’t be able to find one anywhere near its $750 sticker price.

>It’s not immediately clear how the copies were acquired so early or how many are currently available, but X user @DannyStevens__, who claimed to have bought the game on Facebook Marketplace, posted photos of its box and installation screen, followed by photos and videos of the game playing. These have since been removed, but not before they were saved and reposted online.
>TheGamer also spotted a now-removed listing on US auction site Mercari which showed the seller holding multiple copies of the game in their hands. Each copy sold for $100.
>Some of those acquiring copies of the game have started sharing its contents online. VGC has already seen two Twitch streams showing the game, one of which is still available as an archive recording at the time of writing.

Videos attached are from the dude's Twitter, which were reuploaded by redditors on https://imgur.com/a/PPhSeqN from this post https://safereddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1iwk59a/assassins_creed_shadows_gameplay_leak/

Those game copies could have been stolen/"misplaced" from a physical store or warehouse.
The curious part about this is how PlayStation's and Ubisoft's online services look like they're allowing the game to be downloaded (second image from >>269164, seems to be a different guy from the last picture) and for the players to log in (seen in the status message in the last video of >>269165), though that could also be placebo.

>Soyny can see everything you do on them and can brick your console remotely with a ban.
They can also track down from where the copy was from and all that if they care about going after the reseller.

The Fall of FiveM
https://fivem.team/
https://web.archive.org/web/20250219022736/https://fivem.team/
(Site's offline at times, try the archive if it or the images don't load.)
This enormous report was published a couple weeks ago and goes into the details and timeline of the development and spiritual death FiveM, a popular multiplayer mod for GTA5.
If you're interested, here's some of the topics it covers:
>The vision of the guy behind AlterIWnet and FourDeltaOne (Call of Duty multiplayer mods) on mass-scale multiplayer GTA with a focus on user generated content
>A quick insight on how the same guy seems to be a real technological savant, yet insecure and unable to make relationships. Unfortunately he may be falling/has fallen into the tranny trap.
>How a group of 3 guys deceived him into hiring and paying them as full time developers for the project while not doing any work
>Rockstar arranging a partnership with FiveM, after C&D'ing the project 5 years prior
>See those guys arrange a deal with Rockstar behind the leading autist and in order to take over the project
>The Rockstar guy behind the deal pressuring the lead to leave, while the non-working band were assigned to "lead" the original hard-working team members
>A small insight on how R* works, including how they knew about the GTA5 source code leak in advance and how the FiveM still had to reverse engineer the game after being part of the company
>Revealation of some the people responsible for the GTA5 source code leak from Christmas 2023 with chat evidence
...along many other matters.
While the writer(s) favor(s) the founder and the original developers, it still is an incredible story to read about manipulation, gross deliberate mismanagement and the power of petty online drama to destroy projects.
It's concerning how the rest of the developer team stood by while the project's creator got pushed around for so long before the acquisition, though that could be hard to address in online projects.

I found something interesting relevant to this discussion from last thread if this anon is still here.

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9D%BE%E6%96%87%E9%A4%A8%E8%A3%81%E5%88%A4

Just goes to show how the censorship is just a way to arrest people with impunity rather than a serious law. Sage for not really relevant to the thread, I just thought it was enlightening.

To be fair one of the top contributors from the original team is Russian, and was responsible for porting the project to Red Dead Redemption 2 and maintaining it.

One of the things that stands out the most to me in this is how Rockstar may have made an arrangement with the dudes exploiting the leader to force him to sell FiveM, just so Rockstar could extinguish its development without any community/customer push-back and allow ROME, their own walled garden version of FiveM (which is still being produced), have no competition.

It wasn't just a movie, it was the Titanic of movies, super high detail CGI models with a female lead they had intended to put in other movies as a cyber actress. I don't know the details of their finances, but it's my understanding that they bet everything one the shitty movie, and when it floundered at the box office they had to, or at least felt they had to, cut their losses and fuse with what i always considered their anti-thesis. The shitty mobile port was supposedly the only thing holding the whole grift together, so if the devs for that are done this is likely the end. Let's hope someone is spiteful enough to leak the source and stupid enough to not realize that would let people undo the censorship.

https://archive.is/20240911042330/https://automaton-media.com/en/news/atelier-yumia-sleek-and-sexy-character-designs-pursue-a-more-modern-look-than-previous-titles-according-to-producer/
>Koei Tecmo’s Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is coming to all major platforms in March 2025. The new game will be the most ambitious entry in the Atelier series so far, aiming to raise the IP to a global level with a whole host of improved and expanded elements. In recent interviews with both Famitsu and 4Gamer, Producer Junzo Hosoi also revealed more about how and why Yumia’s character design has a cool, modern feel.
>Atelier Yumia’s character designs, although recognizably Atelier, are a little different to previous games in the series:
>Atelier Yumia character design Yumia
>Yumia (above) has long, thin legs and a cool look, which is in contrast to Atelier Ryza’s protagonist Ryza (below) who has more of a cute look (and is known for her large thighs).
>Atelier Ryza
>Atelier Yumia character designs
>To design Atelier Yumia’s characters, Benitama (who previously did illustration work for the Atelier Marie remake) focused on creating cutting-edge designs while striking a balance between fantasy and functionality. What is cutting-edge fashion now tends to become a trend about 2 or 3 years later when people get used to it. “We thought, ‘If we design (the characters and costumes) with the cutting edge in mind, by the time we release the game to the public, these designs will be established as modern fantasy-style fashion design, right?’” explains Hosoi in the 4Gamer interview.
>However, this was not an easy task. They finalized the design for Isla, a supporting character, early on but were left with a problem. “When I put Yumia’s work-in-progress character design next to Isla’s finished design, Isla looked more like the main character.” Hosoi reveals. Isla’s cute design and colorful outfit hark back to previous Atelier series protagonists, so fans might easily think she looks like the main character.
>Atelier Yumia Isla character design
>Isla’s detailed outfit and her cheerful attitude make her look more like the typical Atelier series main character.
>In order to make it clear that Yumia is the protagonist, her design was fine-tuned some 30 or 40 times. “To make an RPG that more people around the world will want to play, we needed a main character with a fresh, appealing design,” Hosoi explains to Famitsu. “As a result, we decided on a design direction that emphasized coolness- a strong independent woman who uses footwork.”
>Yumia’s long legs and high-heeled boots with light-up heels help accentuate her leg movements. This will really stand out when exploring the game’s open world with her wall-jumping moves. There was also a conscious effort to make outfits a little more practical- and balance fantasy video game costume with real-life wearability. For example, Yumia can undo buttons on her skirt in battle to give her greater range when pulling off a special move.
>As a game that aims to evolve the Atelier series to the next level, Atelier Yumia is set to feature many new and improved aspects such as a seamless open world, more real-time actions and even a house building system (more about those here). “I think you will be able to feel how (the game) has evolved right down to the smallest details.” Hosoi explains to 4Gamer.

Ubisoft trial: the justice system lifts the veil on years of sexual and moral harassment

>Following a wave of anonymous testimonies on Twitter (today X), the scandal comes to light thanks to investigations published in Liberation and Numerama (news website on computers and digital technology) in July 2020.
>In the aftermath, Serge Hascoët, creative director and number 2 of the group, resigns. Thomas François and Guillaume Patrux are dismissed for serious misconduct.
>It is these three men that the court will try from March 10 to 14, suspected of having led and encouraged toxic management within the studio, according to sources close to the file.
>The damning testimonies of the complainants against Thomas known as "Tommy" François, then vice-president of Ubisoft's editorial department, expose the atmosphere he created in the premises in Montreuil.
>During the prevention period chosen by the justice system, from January 2012 to July 2020, Thomas François was between 38 and 46 years old.
>Tied up employee
>His habits at the office: broadcasting pornographic films with sound on speakerphone, kissing employees by surprise on the mouth, playing "dick-cat", commenting in public on the physique of employees whom he calls "asshole", "ugly girl", "slut" or "cod"...
>While she is wearing a skirt, Tommy François forces a young collaborator he has just hired to do the handstand in the open-space.
>He ties this same employee to a chair, places her in the elevator and sends her to another floor. Or smears her face with felt-tip pen and then forces her to attend a meeting without being able to wash herself.
>In addition to these charges, he is being prosecuted for attempted sexual assault having wanted, during a Christmas party, to forcibly kiss a young employee, maintained by other colleagues.
>Because he also encouraged "his subordinates to act the same, using in particular for this purpose his aura and his high hierarchical position within the company," according to an investigation report consulted by AFP.
>Accused of being just as adept at libidinous remarks and intrusive questions of a sexual nature, Serge Hascouët is also accused of racist comments and acts.
>After the 2015 attacks, he allegedly asked a Muslim employee if she adhered to the ideas of the Islamic State group.
>This management assistant could find images of bacon sandwiches on the background of her computer screen, food deposited on her desk during the month of Ramadan.
>Aged 59, the former number 2 of the group which then had 20,000 employees around the world, will answer to the Bobigny court for accusations of complicity as well as moral and sexual harassment.
>The third defendant in this trial, the former "game director" Guillaume Patrux, 39, is dismissed for moral harassment.
>"Inertia of human resources"
>Dozens of witnesses were heard during the investigation but "a large number refused to file a complaint for fear of the reactions of the video game community," according to the report of which AFP was aware.
>During their hearings, these people deplored "the inertia of human resources, despite being alerted to these behaviors," reports this same source.
>At the initiative of the first complaints in July 2021, the Solidaires informatique union denounces "the workings of a system that manipulates, exhausts and grinds workers.euse.s of the company".
>One of the nine victims to have formed a civil party "was the object of multiple humiliating acts and remarks that caused significant psychological repercussions," indicates to AFP Me Benjamin Bohbot.
>Serge Hascoët "categorically denies having harassed only one of his colleagues. He denies having knowledge of wrongdoing committed by various Ubisoft employees," according to a statement sent to AFP by his lawyer Jean-Guillaume Le Mintier.
>An argument that the civil parties are defeating in breach.
>"As soon as it is something rooted in the company and the managers do not intervene to stop it, it is systemic to the company," comments Charlotte Merigot.
>"I have seen several cases of moral or sexual harassment go through and I have never seen such a desire to humiliate," adds the lawyer for the video game workers union.

‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ Director Says Japanese Devs “Now Create With A Global Audience Mind From The Very Start”, Confirms Games Subjected To “Thorough Ethical Reviews Tailored To Different Regions”
https://archive.is/20250305000542/https://boundingintocomics.com/video-games/video-game-news/final-fantasy-vii-rebirth-director-says-japanese-devs-now-create-with-a-global-audience-mind-from-the-very-start-confirms-games-subjected-to-thorough-ethical-reviews-tailored-to-different-r/
>According to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi, the evolution of video games from a niche hobby into a worldwide industry has resulted in Japanese developers shifting their design priorities away from the sensibilities of their local markets and towards those of the larger “global audience”.
>Hamaguchi, who was promoted from his role as the co-director of Remake to the director of the trilogy’s remaining entries following original Final Fantasy VII co-creator Tetsuya Nomura’s decision to take a more relaxed position in the series’ production, provided this insight into his home nation’s current approach to game development while speaking to the official Sony blog following Rebirth‘s recent Grand Award win at the 2024 Japan Asia PlayStation Partner Awards.
>Asked by his hosts as to “What factors do you consider when designing a game for a wide global audience?”, the Square Enix veteran opined, “There are so many elements that go into game development. From the story to every little detail in the game’s presentation, we conduct thorough ethical reviews tailored to different regions. Taking the time and resources to ensure our work >doesn’t become a source of negativity for anyone is essential in today’s world.”
“Back when the original Final Fantasy VII was released, it was primarily created for the Japanese market, and its global reach expanded as it gained recognition,” explained the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy lead programmer. “But today, rather than first prioritizing the Japanese market and letting the game’s reach grow organically, we now create with a global audience in mind from the very start. In that sense, we are in a completely different era.”
>“As Japanese creators, we naturally develop the game in Japanese first before translating it into other languages,” he added. “During localization, we sometimes adjust phrasing to better fit different cultural contexts. However, this is a delicate process — players who have a deep respect and strong feelings for the original work often notice even the slightest differences between the Japanese and translated versions and ask why certain changes were made. It’s a challenge we constantly navigate in game creation.”
>To this end, when later asked if he had advice for fledgling video game designers, Hamaguchi asserted, “I strongly encourage them to step out into the world and continue generating new ideas. It’s important not to limit your perspective to the values or market of your own country.”
>“Maintaining a broad perspective will become even more crucial for creativity in the generations to come,” he added. “While it’s ideal to travel and experience the world firsthand, we are fortunate to live in an era where content and entertainment are easily accessible. There are countless opportunities to broaden your perspective and absorb new ideas. Always set your sights on competing on a global stage, and I hope that together, we can contribute to the growth and expansion of Japan’s entertainment worldwide.”

No Games 5? What about SexBox? That's not to mention that, of ALL the games people can be playing on those two systems, 40% to 70% of the system owners are playing live services titles, with everything fro Fartshite to Get-It-In' Impact. >This is also where the size of the budget becomes an issue. During the PlayStation 2 era, most game publishers tended to be more self-financed, with a more direct relationship to their customers regarding where the money came from as the budgets were lower. Once the madness of AAA started in the following Xbox 360 era, the budgets ballooned, and the disconnect with customers began.
>Much of the stored capital from the previous PlayStation 2 era paid for this AAA folly, but it still resulted in the closure of hundreds of game studios.
>When I started writing about this problem a decade ago,
<I hoped publishers would return to being more financially sensible and realize that AAA was not viable long-term. Instead, they doubled down on AAA games but had spent most of their stored capital by that point, resulting in having to look for more outside investment.

You're not wrong, but not exactly right either.
AAA-type vidya indeed did manifest in the 5th generation, but until the 7th generation these games were nearly always the minority in both quantity and notoriety with the majority of any system's library including the PC being sustained by A and AA games.
Funnily enough Squaresoft as the first major AAA developer went as far even as decided to pioneer AAA's downfall by chasing the Hollywood dragon as early as 2001, in spite of shitting out highly regarded lovingly crafted games with good sales numbers but of course the 六猿兆円 brave and stunning CGI movie was more important.
Did M64 even have an "AAA" budget?
From I know most of that game's development was spent figuring out the N64 hardware while at the same time throwing various 3D gameplay concepts against the wall.

According to this wiki, the budget was $20 million:
https://archive.ph/s1Rkp
And I'll also be using the following sources for the rest of the games listed:
https://archive.ph/pTSik
https://archive.ph/ZE5Kg
https://archive.ph/DAXeY
Which places it above the budgets of "other AAA" games of the time like The Lion King ($12m), Wing Commander 4 ($12m), Metal Gear Solid ($10m), Riven ($10m), and and SF3 ($8m). But still a far cry from FF7's $45 million dollar budget (Which even Square had to pull back on with later games, reducing down to $30). So Sega coming out with Shenmue costing upwards of $70 million was absolute madness. Then things seemed to peter out for almost the next decade, most of the "biggest" games never really going above $30 million, until 2008. In that year alone, three games (GTA4, MGS4, & Too Human), managed to exceed a total of $230 million. Then Killzone 2, FF13, and MW2 all cost well above $50 million (Each) in 2009. THEN Gran Turismo 5 was $80 million and APB was $100 million in 2010. THEN Dead Space was $60 million, Skyrim was $85 million, and TORtanic was $190 million in 2011. THEN THEN was 2012 with Halo 4 and Max Payne 3 costing $100 million. And the nail in the coffin was 2013, with nuTomb Raider costing $100 million, Yidnsey Infinity costing $100 million, Deadpool costing $100 million, Battlefield 4 costing $100 million, and GTA5 costing $137 million.

And those are just the development budgets that we can find. So, in one way, you can argue that "AAA 'always' existed", but you also see how "high budget games" really didn't get out of control until GTA4. Which was more than triple your "average" AAA game costing $20 (AssCreed, Lost Planet, Crackdown) to $30 million (Halo 3, Stranglehold, Enter the Matris) at the time, and even FF12 costing $53 million in 2006. And this is 'just' focussed on game development budgets, not the marketing budgets.

I may be stupid but M64's development "budget" is likely heavily tied and shared with general Ultra64/N64 R&D, the game with its 2 non-celebrity at the time voice actors and ebin midi synths+SDK textures doesn't reflect its large budget at all given the lack of ESG hiring practices at the time.

The price is listed as including marketing. Also the fact that it disappeared off digital at one point suggests licensing was a "lump sum for a limited time use" type system rather than (just) royalties. That would explain a large chunk of 100 mil. ~20 mil to use Deadpool and all the other Marvel stuff in the game, ~40 to make the game, and ~40 to market it sounds relatively plausible (but there would definitely be waste there)

Star Wars: Hunters shutting down 1 year after release
https://archive.is/20250315175955/https://nichegamer.com/star-wars-hunters-shutting-down-1-year-after-release/
>Publisher Zynga and co-developers NaturalMotion Games and BossAlien announced they’re shutting down Star Wars: Hunters, their free-to-play third person arena combat game.
>Star Wars: Hunters will shut down just over a year from its release in 2024 later this year, on October 1st. The final content update for the game will come next month, on April 15th.
>A reasoning behind the game being shut down so soon after its big global debut wasn’t given, however it’s likely it didn’t get enough consistent players to justify keeping it actively developed and online – a growing problem with live service games.
>Here’s a timeline of the game being sunset and eventually fully shut down:
>March 25th, 2025 – Season 5 will be extended by three weeks. We will re-run events and shop bundles from the Season, and the Ranked Season will also be extended, giving players more time to hit Kyber 1 rank.
>April 15th, 2025 – Final content update will be released for free and in-game purchases will be disabled across all platforms. New Support Hunter, Tuya, will join the battle as part of the final update. Tuya will be available and playable for all users immediately at no cost, along with a slate of additional in-game content. We will continue to run a final Ranked Mode leaderboard for players to compete in and run all battlefields and game modes in rotation.
>October 1st, 2025 – Online servers will officially shut down, and Star Wars: Hunters will no longer be playable beyond this point.

<video games getting bigger and more mainstream is good
<if we're talking about the quality of games that still isn't true

And the art in question is not very good or worth preserving. It is another entry in a shitty franchise that should've died a long time ago. Nothing else you said in this post has anything to do with why I should care about this specific example.
>We either allow speech of all kinds to be express or we watch speech slowly slip away.
Free speech isn't "use it or lose it", free speech is "I have the power, I get to say what speech is" and right now it's not us. So no, I don't give a shit if people who are contributing to the social blacklisting you mentioned get their own medicine every once and a while.

I don't have the all-knowing definition of free speech but your definition
>I have the power, I get to say what speech is
Is what every ruler, benevolent or corrupt, has allowed and enforced in the past. Free speech is the ideal that everyone has the power/right to express their opinion without consequences. Sure discussion on what is the degree of protestl/speech to physical assault, violence, harassment, etc will be argued forever but the point still stands. As shitty as it is, they should be allowed to do it, and fail, as people have personal agency not to buy instead of it being ripped out by mandate of law.

And to note I do hate defending Ubisoft and I want them to die too. But banning and censorship is not something I'll justify

>Free speech is the ideal that everyone has the power/right to express their opinion without consequences.
That's your IDEA of free speech. I'm not talking about personal ideas of what free speech SHOULD be. The reality is whoever has the power will get to determine what people say (with exceptions). You haven't demonstrated how this is false. Liberal bastards are in control right now, so they shoot themselves in the foot with their retarded demands on speech. There will always be consequences and there always have been.
>they should be allowed to do it, and fail, as people have personal agency not to buy instead of it being ripped out by mandate of law.
The "invisible hand of the free market" isn't going to kill them or cancer like this. Pro-establishment developers getting BTFO and obtaining those sort of victories is more important than chasing universal free speech principles (lolbert fairy tales) that will never be implemented and never have.
>I do hate defending Ubisoft and I want them to die too.
I don't doubt that, we all do. However, your ideas of free speech don't reflect reality. There will always be power vacuums in every facet of society and people to eventually abuse the power they get. Free speech platforms like this will always exist in one way or another, but they're not representative of the greater culture.

Free speech is either speech for the things you disagree with or it's a meaningless concept that shouldn't even be used. If you want to carve out exceptions for people you hate you need to simply accept admit that you don't like free speech. It usually is tantamount to admitting that you're a craven hypocrite who can't defend their own ideas, so it's understandable why you would have trouble admitting this.

GOP Texas bill could jail you for owning or watching Goblin Slayer and more
https://archive.is/20250315215205/https://nichegamer.com/gop-texas-bill-could-jail-you-for-owning-or-watching-goblin-slayer-and-more/
>A shocking censorship bill was unanimously passed by Republicans in Texas that would effectively make it a jailable offense to own or look at many manga series.
>The new bill would purportedly make it a crime to own a multitude of popular Japanese manga – including Goblin Slayer, Fruits Basket, and many others. The office of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick posted in support of the bill right after it passed the Senate, and will soon head to the governor’s office to be signed.
>The bill in question is Senate Bill 20. Sponsored by GOP senator Pete Flores, the bill, in its own words, “creates a new state offense for the possession or promotion of obscene material that appears to depict a child younger than 18 years old, regardless of whether the depiction is of an actual child, cartoon or animation, or an image created using an artificial intelligence application or other computer software.”
>Furthermore, subparagraph c of the bill states: “An offense under this section is a state jail felony,” directing first-time offenders convicted under this law to a minimum of five years in prison, simply for owning or viewing such material.
>As many responses have pointed out, many popular manga would be banned in Texas if this law is signed into law, which certainly seems like it will at this point. Goblin Slayer is the example many >are pointing to, due to the infamous assault scenes of characters by goblins in the early issues.
But even tamer manga’s like Fruits Basket could be criminalized under this law, depending on how broad a judge or state prosecutor wishes to interpret “sexual acts” in a court of law. Only children’s manga’s such as Pokémon and Sailor Moon seem to be safe under a literal reading of the law.
>Unfortunately, this law in Texas is just the latest escalation in a culture war on anime that has been escalating for the past few years.
>Moms For Liberty, a conservative organization which had previously focused on removing LGBT books from school libraries, has recently begun to push for the removal of “degenerate” anime such as Unico and Assassination Classroom.
>Highly influential pundits like The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh have also been attacking men who watch anime, calling the entire medium satanic and saying only obese men like it.

Overwatch 2 is launching another Le Sserafirm collab with 'more transformative' skin designs, guided by Blizzard Korea's keen eye for Korean trends and street style
https://web.archive.org/web/20250310100331/https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/overwatch-2-is-launching-another-le-sserafirm-collab-with-more-transformative-skin-designs-guided-by-blizzard-koreas-keen-eye-for-korean-trends-and-street-style/
>Back in 2023, Overwatch harnessed the dread power of K-Pop, releasing a collaboration with Le Sserafim that included a debut song, five hero skins, and a new game mode. A lot has changed in the last couple of years, but one thing that has stayed steadfast is the Overwatch team's love for K-pop collaborations, as we'll be getting a whole new Le Sserafim event next week.
>"When it comes to returning collaborations, we never say never," Aimee Dennett, associate director of product management, tells me. "We don't want to bring something back just for the sake of bringing something back, but there's no prior collaboration where we'd say, 'Oh, we'll never do that again.'"
>The upcoming collab with Le Sserafim will feature recolours for all the original skins from the 2023 event and provide five new themed skins for players to snag. This time, the heroes attending the Le Sserafim concert will be Ash, Juno, Mercy, Illari, and D.Va (who is making a re-appearance).
>Just like the first collaboration, Le Sserafim helped the Overwatch 2 team pick out the best heroes for this one. "They play Overwatch, and they can pick characters that they like playing or they feel suits them personally," Dion Rogers, Overwatch art director, says. "You know, they're inspired by a lot of the heroes in the game, too. They really loved Juno when they saw her release to the game. So this is something that we discuss pretty closely with them."
>So, Juno was pretty much a dead-set from the start, but Ash was also one of the first picks for the collaboration, thanks to a cameo in the Perfect Night Overwatch 2 cinematic. Towards the end of the video, we see Ash's loyal omnic companion, B.O.B., working as a security guard at the Le Sserafim concert: "We thought, 'God, we have to make that a skin, '" Dennett says. "So of course, Ash got a skin this time around."

"So of course, Ash got a skin this time around."
>Some characters are easier than others to create a casual outfit for.
>Dion Rogers, Overwatch 2 art director
>While the lineup of skins is pretty great, I still can't help but feel like we're missing out on a Roadhog K-pop skin. Last time, Junkrat got an honorary Le Sserafim skin despite not appearing in the cinematic, so I was holding out hope that he attended the concert with his silent buddy. But giving Roadhog a casual K-pop skin isn't as straightforward as I'd like to imagine.
>"Some characters are easier than others to create a casual outfit for," Rogers says. "A lot of characters have a base skin with a lot of armor and weaponry, and so we need to maintain their silhouette and the read for gameplay reasons. So, there are many characters that are harder than others to bring down to a more casual outfit. Reinhardt, for example, is a very difficult character. What's a normal day for Reinhardt?
>"Roadhog is also pretty hard. Sometimes, the character's lack of armor also makes it difficult. Having some kind of starting point just makes it a lot easier to maintain their silhouettes and their gameplay reads while, you know, putting on a new outfit."
>Changing the silhouette of a character would be incredibly damaging in Overwatch 2. Most of the time, you only catch fleeting glimpses of heroes mid-game, and the fights are so fast that players need to be able to identify heroes and their abilities straight away. Voice lines can help with this—I now have an immediate reflex to fade as Moira if I hear "Hammer Down"—but the visual element is still incredibly important.
>"So Mercy, for example, her wings are a key part of her silhouette," Rogers explains. "So sometimes, if we talk to a collaborator and they're like, 'Oh, can we remove the wings?' We're like, 'Oh, no.'" Seeing Mercy without her wings could be pretty jarring at first as this is a quick indicator that most players subconsciously look for during matches. But you'd also need to keep other visual features like the animation for her rez ability so that the enemy team knows what's going on and that they need to try to interrupt it.
>Luckily, as this was Overwatch 2's second collaboration with Le Sserafim, none of these issues really came up. "This is what makes the second collaboration with Le Sserafim really fun because they really understand this aspect already going into it," Rogers says. "So a ton of our conversations become about fashion and what's cool to make, instead of overcoming the technical aspects."
>Blizzard Korea is the team responsible for all of these Le Sserafim skins, and they seem ideally suited for the job. "These guys are so in touch with fashion influences and the scene there, they become the perfect fit to do something like this," Rogers says. "Obviously, they incorporated a bunch of hip hop and street wear this time. They're able to see the trends there and apply them to the skins."
>The first set of Le Sserafim skins were really cool, but these new ones clearly have more real-world influences. They are also pretty experimental with the character design, without changing important signifiers of the heroes. Illari's skin is particularly transformative, so much so that I had to do a double take when I first saw it.
>The new skins also contain a couple of Easter eggs, one of which was made by one of the members of Le Sserafim. "The little plushie that's attached to Mercy's key chain is actually a character design from Sakura, one of the Le Sserafim artists," Dennett says. D.Va's spiky bun is something that the artists over at Blizzard Korea picked from current trends, and the RGB weapon glow is inspired by the neon aesthetic in Le Sserafim's Crazy music video.
>Despite the technical issues explained above, Overwatch 2 has been pushing the boat out when it comes to skins for some time now. It all really started with the new mythic skins that were introduced in Overwatch 2's battle pass, like the Reaper Anubis skin or the Widowmaker Spellbinder mythic, which both added particle effects to skins and gave Blizzard artists the opportunity to experiment in ways that previously just weren't available. Since then, we've also seen particle effects in some legendary skins, like the money spilling out of Soldier: 76's bag in the Heist skin.
>"As we go on with Overwatch, we wanted to actually be a little bit more transformative with skins," Rogers says. Before, the team was almost too beholden to conforming to a strict set of guidelines of what was possible and what wasn't. "It created a smaller box for us to work in. So now we just kind of break away from that a bit more than we usually do. There's this idea to be as transformative as possible while keeping the identity of the hero. So that's why you're starting to see a bit more of us playing with VFX."
>Overwatch has always had really great skins— Ana's Wasteland skin, Genji's Oni skin, and D.Va's Shin-Ryeong skin are just a few standout examples among the old classics. But it's great to see that almost 10 years after its release, the Overwatch team is still experimenting with styles and pushing for even better designs.

Korea has been a massive "e-sports" market (arguably the only real one) since at least 2010. Also half the developers for this crap are either Korean code farms or ethnic Koreans in California and Canada. Korean translations for games in general has become more and more common, but that's more due to adding translations being easier due to standardized text handling (you don't have to literally reprogram the game for each character set, just replace the script and redo a few graphical text bits), and software advances+internet making contracting easier (back in the 90s translators would literally be sent a large stack of paper with the Japanese script on it and be told they have a month to send back the translation) so translations become a relatively simple "does this make more than it costs?" question instead of the mess it used to be. Korea just happens to (now) be a country that has enough people who spend enough money on video games, doesn't have such high proficiency in another language translating anything not intended for a sub-middle school audience is pointless (most European languages outside of English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish fall into this), etc.

If (when) this bill is signed, Texans will have until September to back up their loli. It is no surprise that the first Latinx Republican in Texas's Senate made this bill. Check the amendments. He couldn't even write it properly. Including him, its authors and co-authors in order of appearance are
>Republican man who is the first Latinx Republican Texas Senator
>Republican man who is the owner of a massive chain of grocery stores, is deeply unpopular within his party, and was illegally elected because he is a non-resident of his district but got out of it by a loophole where he rented his own property for $1 and stated it as his place of residence
>Democrat Latinx man who is an illegal immigrant and would be deported under the current presidential administration
>Republican woman who was elected with her husband's drug money, had a big hand in recent gerrymandering, is pro-whistleblower even if what they are whisleblowing is false, and was recently President pro tempore
>Republican man who was only elected because his challenger dropped out
>Republican man who has been virtually unopposed in his minority majority district for almost twenty years
>Democrat Latinx woman who filibustered out laws preventing illegal immigrants from voting
>Republican man who has run unopposed for almost two decades, is connected to the Bush Family, was present at the Pentagon during 9/11, and was recently President pro tempore
>Republican man who has run unopposed in his party for almost two decades and is President pro tempore
>Republican man in his 80s who initially attempted to be illegally elected in violation of residency laws
>Republican man who was almost voted out of his district until the gerrymander previously mentioned helped him gerrymander his district and was recently President pro tempore
>Republican man who was a spearhead in the charge to retaliatorily remove the leader of Texas v Pennsylvania then flip flopped because it turned out their whistleblower was false
>Republican woman who slept her way to the top after getting a BA in Advertising
>Democrat Latinx man who previously butt heads with the man who was saved by gerrymandering over laws preventing illegal immigrants from voting
>Republican man and president of an oil company
>Republican man drunkard who sends unsolicited dick picks and was recently President pro tempore

Subjects for bills are entered manually. The first subject is Artificial Intelligence. Rather than something reasonable but unenforceable like a bill banning creation of sexual depictions of real children via AI, even if such a bill is illegal, it is a bill to criminalize anything which depicts both perceived (not confirmed) minors in situations which would not pass the Miller Test, a cause explicitly outlined as illegal in Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition. This means tons of movies, TV shows, cartoons, anime, manga, video games, and visual novels can also be hit because of public opinion, which can be spurred by the internet and does not have the national community standard for the Miller Test as stated to be necessary in United States v. Kilbride. It is unlikely that you'd legally be able to go on smug because its name and banners could be considered as promoting what is covered by this law.

The real shockers of the bill aren't that it passed Republicans unanimously, but that it caused the Texan constitution to be suspended and protects drug mules. They thought it was so important to pass that they suspended both the 60 day languishing period (during which time residents may voice concerns with bills) and the order of business (during which time laws that matter, like taxes and infrastructure, are considered) and the triple reading law (during which time residents may again voice concerns with bills), and decided that if (when) this bill passes, it will no longer be a crime to move drugs with intent to deliver for a criminal organization. Drug mules will have the same protections as local potheads.

This law is illegal by definition but is meant to overturn Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition and 18 U.S. Code § 2256 via United States v. Kilbride through the creation of a state or national community standard for the Miller Test. Until that point, Texas would be nullifying not only a Supreme Court case, but a standing federal law. The unfortunate thing here is that Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition has a good chance of being overturned if this goes to the Supreme Court. All of the judges who voted for its outcome are gone, and the majority of the authors of this bill are in line with the current presidential administration. The only exception is Thomas, who only agreed on its judgement rather than on its arguments. Even Scalia was against the ruling, and Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition could be turned against those arguing against this law because Rehnquist made the prediction that it will eventually become impossible to differentiate real pornography from generated pornography.

>Chapter 1 of Goblin Slayer as an example
The cost of using NicheGamer as a source. Goblin Slayer has nothing to do with this. However, none of the characters in that chapter have an established age, but that's part of the point of the bill. The bill seeks to make a US state, if not the US, into a place like Canada and Australia and follow through with part of the Evangelical agenda of the 90s and 00s. Neither Pokemon nor Sailor Moon would be safe under a literal interpretation. You can even cross off comedy works.

The problem after a while is how you have all of these politicians wasting their time and tax-payer dollars pursing action against private individuals than actual criminals. And that's kind of the point. Worst Korea already experiences this with their cheeze pizza laws, where someone looking at the lewd image of an anime high school girl managed to get internet cafes shut down and it's owners arrested because it happened using "their internet". And it's not because the police "don't know" who's committing the crimes. They damn well know it, but how are you going to bring a case against businessmen, politicians, and your very own superiors who are signing your paychecks. Same thing here. They know who's creating and distributing real cheeze pizza, they just refuse to act and prosecute them.

I think they're generating the consensus to do all those things in the future, maybe now they can't push all the things they want, but with enough propaganda in a few generations they will because people will allow it. (ex: if the bill don't pass or get a too negative reaction, they probably will be slower with the pushing of their agenda) Also, is easier blaming people for crimes they didn't committed and putting you a badge for defending le children than actually do that work, also, because if you do, you're probably the one who is going to get arrested. Also it shows a degradation of the justice system, like is happening in the UK. Making the police do those meaningless things, just shows that the objective of the police is not safeguarding security but to act as political commissariats for the arbitrary will of the State. Is sad to see how the anglophone world is becoming like that, and in minor degree some European nations, but is interesting how the first ones were the commonwealth, with Australia, then Canada and UK. This kind of behavior deserves a serious study, their dynamics are so interesting... Also, worst korea is totally distopical, indeed....

Esoterists who believed that developing a world government was the "next step" in humanity's spiritual evolution, and will bring about our ascension to godhood as a species, and even possibly supersede the Christian God. If you want an example, Robert Muller, one of the central figures of the U.N. since it's founding, wrote a book entitled "New Genesis" in 1982 that contains this gem of a quote:
<And God saw that all nations of the Earth, black and white, poor and rich, from North to South, from East and West, and. of all creeds were sending their emissaries to a tall glass house on the shores of the River of the Rising Sun, on the island of Manhattan, to study together, to think together and to care for the world and all its people.

Nintendo grappling with hard choice after U.S. patent office overwhelmingly rejected anti-Palworld patent application
https://archive.is/20250213183702/https://gamesfray.com/nintendo-grappling-with-hard-choice-after-u-s-patent-office-overwhelmingly-rejected-anti-palworld-patent-application/
>For Nintendo, the whole world is potentially a battlefield. They didn’t even shy away from going after the owner of a small (and more than 50 years old) grocery store in Costa Rica (February 2, 2025 games fray article). In that case, they lost (at least the first round), and games fray actually thinks Nintendo had a point in that trademark dispute. Trademarks are a different type of intellectual property right from patents in many ways.
>Nintendo files for more patents than The Pokémon Company, with which it co-owns many patents. In order to look for Pokémon-related patents, it’s most efficient to run a search for patents assigned to The Pokémon Company, such as on a website named Justia (Justia search link). Google Patents is another option, and the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) obviously also allows users to search for applications as well as granted patents.
>Based on its history, U.S. Patent No. 12,179,111 could be a product of Nintendo’s Palworld-oriented patent activity. According to its history, Nintendo filed for it on May 2, 2024 (a few months after Palworld’s launch), and it was granted on December 31, 2024. As we have said on other occasions, “the name of the game is the claim”: the patent claims define the scope of protection. The claims of U.S. Patent No. 12,179,111 relate to ways of capturing a field character.
>U.S. Patent No. 12,194,382 looks less interesting. It was granted last month, but the application was filed in 2022, and it is about exchanging items with other players of a game.
>On February 11 (i.e., in three days from when this article was written), Nintendo will soon get a U.S. patent with number 12,220,638:
>That one is also related to capturing characters. It’s about capturing characters and getting a numerical indication of how likely one is to catch a particular field character.
>The application for that one (which was derived from an older one) was filed on July 18, 2024, approximately half a year after Palworld’s launch. So that one is also a patent to watch.
>The ‘883 patent application
>Now let’s turn to an application where Nintendo has a choice to make: U.S. Patent Application No. 18/652,883. Nintendo filed it on May 2, 2024, a few months after Palworld’s launch. And it covers the smooth switching of riding objects that a Japanese patent attorney does not consider to be implemented by Palworld, at least not in a way that would constitute an infringement. So this is a U.S. patent application that is directly related to a patent Nintendo is actually asserting against Pocketpair.
>On December 4, 2024, Nintendo received a notice of “final rejection” from the patent examiner. Now, “final” is not literally final in terms of “end of story”:
>Even if a rejection is declared final, the party applying for the patent can modify the claims and ask for a continuation of the examination.
>It can also appeal the rejection to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), which is like an in-house of the USPTO. And from there, one can theoretically appeal further to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
>A party can also give up at that point. But Nintendo won’t.
>Why is it clear that Nintendo won’t give up? It’s not just about their mentality: even they will abandon patent applications that are not going anywhere. Here, however, the Office action is more nuanced. 22 out of 23 claims are rejected. The last one (which is number 22 of 23), however, is merely “objected to” (don’t be confused as we’ll explain it in a moment):
>First, why 23 claims? If one goes to court, the colloquial version is that one sues over a patent. But that is only half-accurate. One actually sues over one more patent claims. A product can even infringe dozens of claims from a single patent. That won’t mean the patentee gets dozens of times more money, but it has other implications. In general, the more claims an accused service or product infringes, the better for the patent holder. One simple reason for which it is good is that even if one or more claims turn out to be invalid, you may still have one or more left that survive. >There are many more advantages from having multiple claims, but the others are more difficult to explain.
>When the examiner rejects a claim, the claim is not going to be granted unless the patentee’s patent attorneys come up with some new and strong arguments that make the examiner change mind, or they bring and win an appeal. In this case, 22 claims (nos. 1-21 and no. 23) are rejected because they are not considered inventive over the prior art.
>When the examiner merely “objects” to a claim, one has to look at what the issue is because it may be easy to fix. What did the examiner say here?
>That is a pretty clear instruction: rewrite the claim to make it independent, as the current problem is that it is dependent on a rejected one, and it will (normally, though some risks remain) go through. What does this mean? The terms are underlined, so you can click on our dictionary-style definition, but let’s explain it here. Claim 22 has the following language:
>The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored therein the game program according to claim 1 [emphasis added], wherein in association with the player character approaching a ground of the virtual space, while the player character is moving in the air aboard the air boarding character, switching from the air boarding character to the boarding character when a distance between the player character and the ground satisf[ies] a threshold value.
>The reference to claim 1 (in bold and italics above) is what makes the claim dependent. It refers to claim 1 and just adds further claim limitations.
>You don’t need to read it in detail, but just so you have the context in case you’re interested, here’s what Nintendo’s proposed claim 1 says:
>A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored therein a game program causing a computer of an information processing apparatus to provide execution comprising:
controlling a player character in a virtual space based on a first operation input;
>in association with selecting, based on a selection operation, a boarding character that the player character can board and providing a boarding instruction, causing the player character to board the boarding character and bringing the player character into a state where the player character can move, wherein the boarding character is selected among a plurality of types of characters that the player character owns;
>in association with providing a second operation input when the player character is in the air, causing the player character to board an air boarding character and bringing the player character into a state where the player character can move in the air; and while the player character is aboard the air boarding character, moving the player character, aboard the air boarding character, in the air based on a third operation input.
>So Nintendo can solve the examiner’s problem for claim 22 by copying and pasting the entire language of claim 1 and adding “wherein in association with the player character approaching a ground of the virtual space, while the player character is moving in the air aboard the air boarding character, switching from the air boarding character to the boarding character when a distance between the player character and the ground satisfies a threshold value.”
>Unless the examiner somehow changes mind, the claim would go through. Nintendo would have a patent with only one claim, which is unusual in this field of technology. But they would get it.
>It’s been more than two months since that final rejection (which, again, was not a complete rejection because claim 22 just had a curable deficiency). But the USPTO website doesn’t show a reaction by Nintendo yet. They still have about a month (or more if they successfully request an extension).
>Why has a company with such vast resources not responded yet? Even with the Holiday Season in between, they could have done so by now.
>It’s probably because they face a hard choice:
>If they dropped all the claims that the examiner rejected, and rewrote claim 22 as discussed above (making it an independent claim), they would get that one granted quickly. But then they would have patent with only a single claim.
>Alternatively, they can try to convince the examiner that even some other claims are allowable.
>They may also be thinking about some new claims to introduce at this stage, just so that the claim that is currently claim no. 22 is not going to be all alone.
>The U.S. patent system also allows continuation patent applications, which means that a new application is derived from an earlier one. Sometimes parties that are told by an examiner that one set of claims is rejected and another (which in this case consists of only a single claim) is allowable move out some or all of the rejected claims into a new patent application (a continuation application) so as to make it easy for the examiner to grant the claims that can go through quickly.

They never stopped. The one's attacking games just changed colors. If you mean "right" leaning arguments for attacking games then yes, games may soon be attacked by both sides at once. However, only the left has been successful, because they attack games from both the outside and inside. Similarly, I foresee the same failure will occur with this new Texas law. Except no they weren't? There were more-so liberals and feminists who were crying over violent and sexual depictions in video games even during the early 2000s. Most of what you got out of church-goers were churchfags condemning and declaring something like Pokémon as satanic, and demanding Christian parents to prevent their children from playing them. The whole "right-wings puritans got things banned" is far from the truth, considering at the time of 90s, they were rarely ever taken seriously.

Sakurai Says Japanese Developers Should Avoid Trying To Appeal To Western Tastes
https://archive.is/20250318161642/https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/03/sakurai-says-japanese-developers-should-avoid-trying-to-appeal-to-western-tastes
>Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai was recently awarded the Art Encouragement Prize from the Japanese government’s Agency for Cultural Affairs for his remarkable achievement with the 'Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games' YouTube channel.
>As part of that, he conducted an interview with Entax (thanks, Automaton) in which he stressed a need for Japanese developers to focus on creating games with domestic appeal rather than trying to cater to Western tastes.
>When asked how Japan can keep up with booming gaming markets in regions such as China, Sakurai simply stated “It’s not really my own idea, but as an industry trend, I think Japanese people should keep pursuing the things that Japanese people like".
>He goes on to say that the success of Japanese games in the West had led many teams in the region to join a growing trend of "making Americanised works". However, he doesn't necessarily believe that Western gamers are looking for this, stating "I think that they seek the uniqueness and fun of Japanese games".
>His comment comes at an interesting time for Silent Hill fans, of all people. Though not relevant for the Switch, as such (maybe the Switch 2, though..?), the recent transmission broadcast for Silent Hill f highlighted a desire to bring the series back to its Japanese roots, with series producer Motoi Okamoto stating "As [Silent Hill] was based in the West for the longest time, it felt like the Japanese influence was fading". As such, the latest entry will be the first to take place solely in Japan.
>Masahiro Sakurai stressed that his opinion is just one way of looking at the topic, but we think it's a pretty sound approach. We love Japanese games here at Nintendo Life because they're so distinctly Japanese, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

>あの.....wasn't SH always burgerized to a fair degree, or is he referring to ((( Americanization ))) in the modirn(gayfuckstupid) sense?
A bit of both. The first four SH games, actually developed by Team Silent, where attempts by Japanese developers to make a uniquely "western" style horror game. This resulted in them getting immersed in everything from Stephen King novels to movies like Jacob's Ladder. However the game was still developed with a "Japanese mindset" despite including Western elements in the games. In fact, the Siren series actually carries on many of the same elements from the first SH game that the latter three of the original games lack. And in a rather ironic fashion, the new "Silent Hill f" is actually going in the opposite direction by trying to remove the "Western influences" altogether and completely misses the point. Especially when that's what Siren was.

Now in regards to what Mr. Soccerguy is calling "Americanization", what he's talking about casualizing games or dumbing games down to their most basic features. Remember when SE declared that FF13 was "suppose" to be the Call Of Duty of the RPGs, and the result was just an endless series of hallways? That's what's going on. An attempt to remove anything anyone could possibly deem "offensive".

Why yes, I take it "seriously" when I pay money for a game expecting something good since it's a sequel to another good game, and then it turns out it kind of sucks because the lead developer made it bad on purpose. And he boasted about it, no less! That should be the most disqualifying, credibility-terminating thing a developer could ever do. I still love some of Sakurai's Kirby games but I don't know how anyone could give half a shit about his thoughts on game design after that.

And no I wasn't a "Melee autist", my favorite is still the original Super Smash Bros.

Asahi Lina Pausing Work On Apple GPU Linux Driver Development
https://archive.fo/SRMHJ
https://archive.fo/9kJ20
>Following Hector Martin stepping down from the Asahi Linux project that he founded for bringing Linux to Apple Silicon hardware, Asahi Lina announced today that she is pausing work on all of the Apple GPU driver development she had been pursuing for Asahi Linux with the open-source DRM kernel driver as well as Mesa contributions.
>Asahi Lina posted to Bluesky today:
>"For personal reasons, I no longer feel safe working on Linux GPU drivers or the Linux graphics ecosystem. I've paused work on Apple GPU drivers indefinitely.
>I can't share any more information at this time, so please don't ask for more details. Thank you."
>Asahi Lina had been leading the effort working on a Rust-written Apple DRM kernel graphics driver that has yet to be mainlined to the Linux kernel. Plus contributions to the Asahi AGX Gallium3D and Honeykrisp Vulkan drivers within Mesa too. As part of that, Asahi Lina was also involved in reverse-engineering the Apple M1/M2 GPU. Asahi Lina had been one of the most prominent Asahi Linux developers working on the Apple Linux GPU graphics stack along with Alyssa Rosenzweig.
>This is a hit to the Linux graphics support for the Apple Silicon GPU especially with the DRM kernel driver not yet being finished and upstreamed as well as still targeting the older M1/M2 hardware generations. Short of new open-source community developers stepping up to work on the Apple Silicon support, it will remain a rather difficult uphill battle to pull off for those wanting a Linux laptop experience as nice as what's available from the likes of Intel and AMD.

Applefags are kind of idiots who give away 10 year old computers that are still more than serviceable for free, just because they are 10 years old. Considering how many iWhatevers are sold every year, you will be able snatch them for a pretty decent price (considering their performance) in a few years, assuming that planned obsolescence won't kill them before that. But at that point they won't be officially supported, so you will have to install Linux if you want to use them.

It's a shit comparison.
The monstergirl version would be fully illustrated and there'd be fucking within the first two pages.
And the MC would end up with a harem of all three and make peace with all of them using the power of his dick.
And then he'd be an ambassador teaching all the other monstergirls that they can find love in human men as long as they stop fighting.

It's been done to varying degrees for decades by doujin authors:
Agata - ChinTrai Quest
Shiina Kazuki - Isekai Shoukan
Kazuhiro - Inma Kyuusei
If you expand the "monstergirl" to include monsterous girls, then there's a few where ultra strong women adventurers enslave the MC and do the whole protection thing.

Then there is outliers like the stories you listed. Just because you prefer the latter does not make it the definitive way to tell such a story.

The news about AssCreed Shadows is such a fiasco that even regular news sources are picking up on it: https://archive.ph/qLAmk
>Europe games industry on edge as 'Assassin's Creed' hits shelves
<Thursday's release of action-adventure epic "Assassin's Creed Shadows" marks a make-or-break moment not just for struggling French games heavyweight Ubisoft, but for the entire European gaming ecosystem.
<With its almost 18,000 employees and global footprint, Ubisoft has nevertheless suffered one setback after another in recent years with disappointing releases, a dwindling stock price, harassment allegations against former bosses and repeated strikes.
<The company is falling back on its longtime major money-spinner "Assassin's Creed" to pull it from the doldrums, this time with an episode set in medieval Japan.
<"I've never seen things this way" as the whole European industry looks to Ubisoft, Midcap Partners analyst Charles-Louis Planade told AFP ahead of the launch.
<More than 17 Ubisoft studios employing hundreds have poured five years of work into "Shadows", with an estimated budget running into hundreds of millions of euros.
<...
<He said a poor sales showing could provoke a knock-on effect across the entire industry, noting that in France alone, Ubisoft accounts for almost one-third of the country's 15,000 jobs in games development
<Many budding creators pass through Ubisoft after completing their training, while former employees have founded new studios in France and around the world.
<...
<Ubisoft shares had fallen almost 5.6% on Wednesday to trade at 12.60 euros by the time markets closed, despite the good early reviews for "Shadows".
<Even before release of the hoped-for blockbuster, Ubisoft said it was "actively exploring various strategic and capitalistic options" for its future.
<Early rumours suggested that could involve going private with help from Chinese tech giant Tencent, a major investor that holds 10% of Ubisoft.
<More recently, multiple outlets have reported the group could sell off much of its games catalogue to focus on its core titles.
<"Every option is on the table" for Ubisoft's future, Planade said, with commercial success for "Shadows" likely to strengthen Ubisoft's hand in the negotiations.

Helldivers 2 director discusses roleplaying fascism: “it’s fiction”
https://archive.is/20250320154822/https://nichegamer.com/helldivers-2-director-discusses-roleplaying-fascism-its-fiction/
>The director for Helldivers 2 Johan Pilestedt has been on social media responding to an article regarding the totalitarian themes in the game.
>As covered by PC Gamer, Pilestedt recently spoke at the 2025 Game Developers Conference in a panel called “Helldivers 2: Capturing Lightning in a Bottle”. During this panel, the Arrowhead >CCO discussed the fascistic trappings of Super Earth. One line in particular stood out where he says: “We asked ourselves, could we brainwash an entire community to fight for a fascist state? Would they? Would we be okay with that? And turns out, yeah, actually”.
>The line has since been taken out of context of tongue-in-cheek roleplaying, with some claiming that Helldivers 2 “manipulates” players into being fascists despite openly wearing its sarcasm on its sleeve. For anyone who’s played Helldivers 2 for more than 5 minutes, they ought to know that the “Democracy” of Super Earth is just as legitimate as the democracy of the “Democratic” People’s Republic of Korea.
>Since the article released, Pilestedt has been responding to fans and critics, pointing out that it’s strictly roleplay and that it can be fun to “be the baddies”. He goes on to point out that “gamers are smart” and can tell fiction from reality when playing games as Storm Troopers, Nazis, etc.
>Hey, we have talked about it at the studio. We believe most people feel comfortable since it's all make belief and role-playing. Gamers are smart and can differentiate between jokingly rooting for the empire in star wars or the mobile infantry in starship troopers.

>Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn’t the hit Ubisoft “desperately needs,” analyst says
https://archive.ph/Fo8JD
<As mentioned, Ubisoft triumphantly announced a couple of days ago that two million players have already picked up Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Today, it’s been reported by VGC that in terms of sales revenue, Shadows has achieved the second biggest launch in the series, behind only 2020’s Valhalla. By being available on Steam on day one, it’s also now the leading game in the series on Valve’s platform.
<...
<MIDiA Research’s Rhys Elliott says that “the numbers do NOT reflect [the] smash hit Ubisoft desperately needs” and predicts that “given the scope and development time of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the title has almost certainly not broken-even yet.”
<While launching on Steam straight away was certainly a boon for the game, Elliot compares Shadows’ numbers on the platform to the port of Ghost of Tsushima, which treads on similar ground to the new Assassin’s Creed. Despite it being a port of a then-four-year-old game, Ghost of Tsushima sold roughly twice as many copies on Steam at launch than Shadows, according to data pulled from Alinea Analytics.
<Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Steam sales also pale in comparison to some of 2025’s true mega hits so far. Three days after launch, Shadows has apparently sold 310,000 copies. In a similar time frame, Split Fiction shifted 882,500 units on Steam, and the gargantuan Monster Hunter Wilds sold almost ten times better than Shadows with 3.7 million units, according to Alinea’s data.

>"Due to the deception about a 'correction patch' for Assassin's Creed Shadows, the shrine where the misappropriation occurred has banned all tourist entry.

Commission and national authorities take action to protect children from harmful practices in video games
https://archive.is/20250326225154/https://europeansting.com/2025/03/24/commission-and-national-authorities-take-action-to-protect-children-from-harmful-practices-in-video-games/
>Coordinated by the European Commission, the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPC) has launched an enforcement action against Star Stable Entertainment AB to ensure a safer, more transparent experience for players of the Star Stable Online game. In addition, the CPC Network is presenting today key principles to help the gaming industry comply with the EU consumer protection rules related to in-game virtual currencies.
>Coordinated enforcement action against Star Stable Entertainment AB
>Following a complaint by the Swedish Consumers’ Association, the CPC Network, coordinated by the Commission, has launched a coordinated action requesting Star Stable Entertainment AB to provide information on commercial practices that children might encounter in their game, Star Stable Online. The CPC Network’s assessment of the reply provided by the company identified a number of practices that violate EU consumer protection legislation and that could be particularly harmful to children, such as:
direct appeals to children in the advertisements, urging them to buy, or persuade adults to buy for them, in-game currency or items;
the use of pressuring techniques such as ‘purchase through time-limited practices’ to unduly influence children to purchase in-game virtual currency or in-game content;
a lack of clear and transparent information, adapted to children,about buying and using in-game virtual currency, leading consumers to spend more than they intend to;
failure by the company to ensure that the influencers promoting their products clearly disclose commercial content and do not unduly influence children with their marketing techniques.
>Star Stable Entertainment AB has now one month to provide a written response addressing the issues highlighted in the CPC Network’s common position and to propose commitments to remedy them.
>With this action, the CPC Network emphasises the need for video games and their commercial practices to be adapted to children and to not exploit their vulnerabilities.
>Key principles for trustworthy online gaming environment
>The CPC Network, coordinated by the European Commission, is publishing a set of guidelines today to promote transparency and fairness in the online gaming industry’s use of virtual currencies. The key principles outline the minimum requirements for the purchase and use of virtual currencies, including:
clear and transparent pricing and pre-contractual information;
avoiding practices hiding the costs of in-game digital content and services, as well as practices forcing consumers to purchase virtual currency;
respect of consumers’ right of withdrawal;
respecting consumer vulnerabilities, in particular when it comes to children;
>The key principles published today address concerns raised by the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC). They will help create a safer, more transparent experience for players. The >European Commission will be hosting a workshop where gaming companies operating in the EU will be encouraged to present concrete steps, they will take to implement these key principles. >The CPC Network will monitor progress and may take further actions if harmful practices continue.
>The key principles and the Common Position are based on the existing general rules of EU consumer law directives that apply to digital services and digital content provided to consumers, including video games. The Commission will continue to examine these topics in the context of forthcoming consultations on the Digital Fairness Act.
Background
>The CPC Network is formed by national authorities responsible for enforcing EU consumer protection legislation. These authorities work together under the coordination of the European >Commission, to address widespread infringements of EU consumer laws occurring in the Single Market. The Commission assisted the CPC Network led by the Netherlands Authority for >Consumers and Markets and the Norwegian Consumer Authority to adopt the Key Principles on In-Game Virtual Currencies. With the Commission as a coordinator, the Swedish Consumer >Agency and the Norwegian Consumer Authority, are leading the work of the CPC Network in the coordinated action on Star Stable Online.
>The European Commission supports and contributes to raising consumer awareness of practices in video games that may be harmful to consumers. The Better Internet for Kids (BIK+) strategy was put in place to improve accessibility, age-appropriate digital services and to ensure that every child is protected, empowered and respected online. An educational toolkit for young consumers was developed by the European Consumer Centres Network during the 2022 European Year of Youth addressing some of these issues.

Assassin's Creed Shadows violates Japanese commercial law!!!
So for those not in the know, in Japan, the Japanese Imperial Seal, also known as the Chrysanthemum Crest, cannot legally be used for commercial purposes. This has been a Japanese law since 1880, with an update to said law being issued in 1929 that allows for "some" commercial usage within certain restrictions: https://archive.ph/K7u7b
Well, apparently Ubisoft's crack team of legal experts and professional localizers did not know about this circumstance and included a version of said Chrysanthemum Crest in the game and violates Japanese law as a result of this: https://archive.ph/1RgGC
https://twiit.com/yamato_shigure7/status/1905310503205044409
https://invidio.us/watch?v=rk4tMCC5EC4
And the kicker is that people were pointing this out 'weeks before the game even launched': https://archive.ph/IvFOw

Ubisoft has managed to fuck up to the point that they actually released illegal contraband.

Jesus, Nintendo is unironically implementing the Xbone's original system when it came to exchanging games between people: https://archive.ph/Ve4lJ
>Nintendo reinvents digital games as swappable, lendable Virtual Game Cards
To cut a long story short, the process doesn't work unless you have access to the internet (Both when "trading" or "returning" the game), there is a time limit on how long you can access the game on the other system, you cannot do this unless all of the systems are tied to the same account or you have all of the accounts as a part of the same "Family Group" (Which is limited to seven members), and this does not apply to games you received as part of your online Switch membership. Also, nothing detailing about if save files transfer with this process.

That's not how it works. Here are the restrictions on HOW the Chrysanthemum Crest can be depicted (Which you would have known had you clicked the link): https://archive.ph/K7u7b
<The most important feature that became subject of scrutiny was the number of petals of the chrysanthemum being between 25 and 12, anything more or less was OK. Anything within this range was to be regarded as a violation unless….
<1. The diameter of the center orb was greater than the length of the petals
<2. When character(s) or figure(s) with a diameter greater than the petal length was placed at center
<3. When three-fifths or more of the chrysanthemum was cut off or hidden
<4. When the center of the design was placed off-center by more than a quarter of the radius
<5. Oval or diamond shaped design with the shorter radius being less than two-thirds of the longer radius
<6. When the chrysanthemum was not arranged as a crest or logo, but was intended as a rendition of a real flower
Now, for reference, the first fours pics are what the official seal looks like. Meanwhile, the last pic consists of examples that would be seen as acceptable "replacements" so as to no violate the law. In the case of Civ7, coloring the crest red probably counts as enough of a difference to be seen as getting a pass (As the official crest is yellow or orange in usage), but they make no such alterations in the case of AssCreed.

Tencent Buys 25% Stake in Ubisoft as it Forms a New Subsidiary
https://archive.is/20250328201806/https://www.glitched.online/tencent-buys-25-stake-in-ubisoft-as-it-forms-a-new-subsidiary/
>Ubisoft has sold 25% of its company to Tencent in a $1.3 billion deal that will see the Chinese gaming giant form a new subsidiary and have control over popular licenses like Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry.
>The deal might have only cost Tencent $1.3 billion, but in fact, it is valued at $4.3 billion if you take into account the assets and licenses involved in the agreement.
>Ubisoft says the new subsidiary will include teams that currently work on these existing franchises as well as people involved in previous catalogue titles. By the sound of things, it gives Tencent free reign to work on new and existing Ubisoft games and call the shots when it comes to pitching ideas, hiring staff, and deciding on game direction.
>In a statement, Ubisoft says the new path forwards only means positive things for the company. It will allow teams to work on new narrative solo experiences as well as expand multiplayer offerings with increased frequency of content release.
>The deal between Ubisoft and Tencent is expected to close this year, so we will likely see more from the partnership in the year ahead. CEO Yves Guillemot says in a press release that the creation of this new partnership will spearhead development of three of the largest franchises at the company.
>“With the creation of a dedicated subsidiary that will spearhead development for three of our largest franchises and the onboarding of Tencent as a minority investor, we are crystalizing the value of our assets, strengthening our balance sheet, and creating the best conditions for these franchises’ long-term growth and success. As we accelerate the company’s transformation, this is a foundational step in changing Ubisoft’s operating model that will enable us to be both agile and ambitious. We are focused on building strong game ecosystems designed to become evergreen, growing high-performing brands and creatingnew IPs powered by cutting-edge and emerging technologies.”
>Ubisoft has been looking into changing things up at the company following a year of lacklustre game sales. Apart from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which just reached 3 million players in a week, >Ubisoft’s previous releases in 2023/2024 didn’t perform as expected. The company has been in the spotlight for poor sales and lost revenue as a result of game sales “not reaching expectations”. These include Skull and Bones, Star Wars Outlaws, and Prince of Persia.

Kaneko showed up to the interview cosplaying one of his own character designs. Quite a neat idea. Sadly, I don't think the clean-shaven look suits him at all. Just my 2 cents.
Anyway, I took the time to archive and machine-translate this Dengeki interview with him and his co-developer, some guy named Kevin.
Enjoy, guys:

>"Project MASK," a completely new title under development by Kazuma Kaneko, who has joined COLOPL, has created quite a stir. The official name of the title is "TSUKUYOMI: THE DIVINE HUNTER" (iOS/Android/PC), and it will be released worldwide in the spring of 2025.

>The title is a tower roguelike game set in a unique world created by Kazuma Kaneko.
>Interviews with Kazuma Kaneko, concept planner, and Kevin Yusuke Saito, development producer. We will provide information on the appeal of the roguelike game genre and its worldview.
>(Image: Kazuma Kaneko, concept planner, and Kevin Yusuke Saito, development producer.)

<Best regards. Before I ask for more details, Mr. Kaneko looks different than usual.......
>Mr. Kaneko: Actually, there is a character like this in the game. I am cosplaying a character I designed myself (laughs).

<It is an interesting meta development to meet someone in the third dimension before meeting them in a game. First of all, please tell us how you came to develop "Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter," or "Project MASK".
>Mr. Kaneko: When I joined COLOPL, I was asked to come up with game plans, regardless of genre. I am often thought of as an illustrator, but for the major titles I have been involved with, I am involved in the planning and thinking of the game concept.
>I came up with a grand story, with the intention of developing not only a game, but also an anime, a novel, and other media mixes.
>That is what I would like to introduce to you this time, "Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter". Until now I have been a demon painter, but from this work I have become a Shinmamono painter. Originally, I painted mostly things other than demons (laughs).
>(Image: Divine: Kirin)
>I had envisioned an RPG, but someone suggested, "How about a roguelike game?" and the game design became what it is today.

<Rogue-like is a genre that has recently become popular in indie games.
>Mr. Kevin: Yes. In addition to that, another important point is that we had decided to use AI technology in this work. AI technology has been expanding over the past year and a half to two years, and our company has been thinking about how to utilize this latest technology in entertainment.
>AI has a randomness in what is output when you enter a prompt (command or instruction). This randomness and roguelike compatibility led to the decision to create a genre.

<What was your impression when you first heard about AI and roguelikes, Kaneko-san?
>Mr. Kaneko: At first I thought it would come that way because I had envisioned an RPG. I also felt that the company wanted to communicate with users using the new technology of AI.
>This is a new genre for me, but I thought it was interesting and good.
(Image: Tsukuyomi of the Full Moon)

<So this was a new challenge for you, both as a game genre and in the use of AI technology.
>Mr. Kaneko: I did not join the company with the intention of taking on challenges, but I am glad that they let me take on challenges as a result (laughs).
>Creators are always challenging themselves, but we are often passive and don't have many opportunities to challenge ourselves if we live a normal life, so I am glad that I was given the chance.

<Could you tell us again what kind of game this work is?
>Mr. Kevin: This work consists of three keywords: Kazuma Kaneko's worldview, AI technology, and roguelike. It is a different genre from what Mr. Kaneko has created so far, and with the inclusion of AI, there are many sharp edges. I think it is an important part to properly incorporate this into a single game experience.
>Personally, I also wanted to challenge myself to create a new game experience with AI.
>(Image: Tsukuyomi of the Half Moon)
>Mr. Kaneko: Since this is the first time AI has been woven into the game design, I can honestly say that it is hard to describe.

<It has been used for internal data in past games, but it is a rare experience to have AI appear as a system that players can touch.
>Mr. Kaneko: It's a "fun element" of the game. As you play the game, a character called "Wolf" equipped with AI generates cards for you as a kind of reward.

<What attracts you to the roguelike card game genre?
>Mr. Kevin: I have always liked the genre myself and have played many different titles. While it is popular worldwide, I have the impression that it is niche in the Japanese market as a whole. With this release on both mobile and PC, I hope to broaden the market.
>One of the attractions of roguelike card games is the construction and building of decks. The feeling you get when you are able to realize the strategy you have thought up in your head is unmatched. With cards being generated by the AI, you can enjoy your own unique style. I hope that communication between players will deepen and expand, as they will be able to say, "I cleared the game this way" or "I did it this way".

<You mentioned that you want to broaden the scope of your business, What specific efforts are you making?
>Mr. Kevin:This title differs from other roguelike card games in that it uses a system in which only three cards appear in the hand, allowing players to focus on each card individually and making the combinations easy to understand.
>Also, since the game is often played in a fiercely competitive genre, attack and defense are combined into a single set, giving the game a sense of tempo that makes it easy for new players to play.
>Mr. Kaneko: My works have been RPGs up until now, so I think some people are worried about whether they will enjoy the change in genre. I hope that people who have never played roguelike games will be satisfied with the game, so please don't be averse to it and give it a try first.
>I hope that we can provide you with videos and other information that will help you enjoy the game.
>(Image: Divine: Seiryu)
>Mr. Kevin: Fans of Mr. Kaneko as well as those who like roguelike/card games should enjoy this game. The game retains the basic fun of a roguelike, while sprinkling Mr. Kaneko's worldview throughout.

<Kaneko-san's works have a unique worldview with a mixture of mythological lore and urban legends. Will we be able to enjoy such a world in this work as well?
>Mr. Kaneko: Yes, I have always been interested in mythology, history and urban legends. I have always loved myths, history, and urban legends, and I am good at creating contemporary works. There are urban legends that say "The assassinated person is actually alive and can be found at ......." I think it would be interesting to apply this to games. I am creating a worldview by thinking about how myths and legends would look like in the modern world.
>(Image: Divine: Fionn mac Cumhaill)
>(Image: Divine: Macha)

<Has the genre of the game changed in any way from the initial concept?
>Mr. Kevin: The worldview and story have not changed, as we had created it in such a way that it could be incorporated into any form.
>The setting is a tower, and the story takes place within it.
>(Image: Divine: Kato Danzo)
>(Image: Divine: Mormo)

<Even though it is a contemporary work, it is catchy that it is set in a tower building. What was the deciding factor in choosing the location?
>Mr. Kaneko: I like to take walks and often wander around various places. When I take a walk in Toyosu or the bay area, I see many skyscrapers being built. This may sound a bit disturbing IF I am talking about, but I think that area could become an isolated island if only a bridge were to be dropped.
>I originally come from a small company, so my brain is geared to creating drama in a limited space. It would cost a lot to develop an open-world setting.
>I always wondered what it would be like to play tag or survival games in a tower building, and I always wondered if I could make that into a game, and that is what I have incorporated into this work.

<What is the most important part of creating your worldview, Kaneko-san?
>Mr. Kaneko: I believe that motivation is important. I want the players to be motivated to play the game in a meaningful and convincing way.
>I myself am the type of person who would be turned off if there is no realism, so I think it is necessary to have a solid principle of action, such as who the characters are and what kind of activities they will perform.
>(Image: Tsukuyomi of the Sixteen-Night Moon)

<How involved are you in the scenario this time around?
>Mr. Kaneko: I write the basic story. The sub-events are a form of urban legends and other stories that are made into events by everyone.

<This may be a difficult question given the nature of the genre, but how many hours of playtime do you anticipate?
>Mr. Kevin: It depends largely on good play and luck. The game consists of three stages per protagonist: lower, middle, and upper levels, and clearing them all completes that protagonist's story. Since there are four protagonists in total, the estimated time is 6-8 hours x 4 protagonists, with endgame content beyond that.
>(Image: Tsukuyomi of the New Moon)
>I don't want it to end up being too easy because you are all too good (laughs).

And there you have it, folks. Hope you enjoyed.
P.S. - As I was posting this, I noticed Famitsu just put up an interview with them too. I'll post that one next.

Roguelites were good sparingly. They elongate the overall play time, because they're intended to be played over and over and over and over. Poor performance, or artificially manufactured odds, are both rewarded with bonuses and improvements for their next attempted run at the game. This is addictive to the nigger brained general population, who:

1. Are bad at games
2. Fall easily into dopamine cycles
3. Never want to actually lose, e.g. "Damn it I died. Oh well, I've got one billion money and ten thousand upgrade points! I'll just buy the Beat-the-Game bonus from the shop!"
4. Are susceptible to gambling

These games often use randomized layouts for their levels rather than carefully crafted levels, give random items in place of a structure of progression, and often use other elements and traits that give it even further random flare, taking more agency away from the player and placing it in the hands of the game's level creation, who is arbitrary and only barely guided by its creators' hands.
Iunno about deck building shit though. Probably more love of randomized garbo. People are weak and dumb now, and prefer the risk of chance over the surety of their own skill. A counterargument could be they prefer the malus of unsureness, but ultimately it just seems like nigger cattle level gambling addiction to me.

Billy Mitchell wins defamation lawsuit
https://archive.ph/OmRfq
No one should care but for some reason I liked reading about Australian law proceedings on a case whose stakes aren't too important. As for vidya this should finally make people stop talking about Mitchell out of fear of being sued and he finally leaves the limelight for what are insignificant video game "records".
>>272117
And they cheaters never win.
>>272117
I find it funny. Because by extension of exposing him as a fraud, he even has a name today.
People would completely forget about this clown because no one would give a shit about these records besides idiots. it is easy to erase this man's name from history by simply just ignoring him and making up a new log of records that does not include him and he can do nothing.

<I know nothing about human interaction
<Twin Galaxies
>makes himself impossible to ignore
One half-ass attempt that amounts to nothing and even then I never got why pretty much people who care about the legitimacy of actual records pretty much didn't make their own version of speedruns dot com with a rule to have clear footage that proves you beaten the record and that your run is valid.
He cannot sue a entire community nor someone who pays just to host a site rather than a organization.

That's horrible, there's no way Jobst has the money to pay all that. Did that fucker seriously try to argue that he lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in his restaurant and hot sauce profits over this? When is the world going to stand up to this bully?
Replies: >>272147

He successfully argued because Jobst fucked up
>Continue to talk shit about Mitchell during a defamation trial
The judge pointed this out in his ruling that Jobst proved he had a vendetta against Mitchell by refusing to shut up and stop talking about Mitchell online before, during, and after the court case. All he had to do was lay low but he couldn't.
>Focus on Mitchell's gaming record
The major issue with this couet case is that Jobst made it appear as if he was getting attacked by Mitchell for outing him as a cheater. The actual defemation suit was that Jobst was accused of saying Mitchell directly contributed to the suicide of some youtuber. The defense was more prepared to fight that Mitchell was a confirmed cheater and his reputation was established as such before Jobst appeared. Mitchell's team struggled to show Mitchell wasn't a piece of shit but also showed that Jobst did defame Mitchell by saying he killed the youtuber. Looks like Jobst is double fucked because his youtube base doesn't take the time to read the legal proceedings and thought the court case was about video game cheating and now are going after him for lying. So in the end we get a double whammy and both sides outta here.

It's that easy to claim defamation in Australia? I feel like a case like that would be thrown out in the US.

>>At the initiative of the first complaints in July 2021, the Solidaires informatique union denounces "the workings of a system that manipulates, exhausts and grinds workers.euse.s of the company".
Froganon here. Sorry, this will be long.
You may not understand what you just read.
It's directly translated from a French article.
The attack on grammar in the name of equality is worldwide.
You English speakers are probably enjoying the universal use of singular they by now.
The leftists are pushing for something similar in France.
But the grammar rules are different so this requires a different approach for French.
Because of its own historical nature as a Latin-derived language, it's somehow immune.
Like for other languages, the sex of a subject may change a portion of a word.
By default, in French we use the masculine form of most things. Well we used to.
Feminists and leftists have insisted to use a feminine version of a word when needed.
Sometimes it's possible, sometimes it's ungainly. Sometimes it just doesn't work.
But since in French we use articles a lot, they insist for them to be changed too.
You often use le as a joke. It's the masculine form of the English the (the car, the dog, etc.).
The feminine form is la, used when the next word is feminine.
But until recently the vast majority of job titles still used le even if taken by women.
So we had
>Madame le ministre
Madame is a feminine word, le is a masculine word.
Please note that ministre is neutral and depends on the article.
Now it's changed.
>Madame la ministre
But some other words come with two versions.
They do now. We didn't bother before. Some people do it reluctantly.
Thus far unless specifically referring to a woman, we still use the masculine by default.
Not so long ago, we didn't even bother using the feminine form even for women.
Now that women are literally everywhere and often outnumber men in the office, not so more.
In the article, the translated word became worker.
In French the original word was
>Travailleur
Masculine. It sounds like tra (raspy frontal r) va yur (softer r but still dry).
The feminine form is
>Travailleuse
Pronounced like tra va yuz (like in we wuz, with no implicit d sound at the beginning of z).
So after this wordy introduction, let's get to the heart of the issue.
>>At the initiative of the first complaints in July 2021, the Solidaires informatique union denounces "the workings of a system that manipulates, exhausts and grinds workers.euse.s of the company".
Notice this
>>workers.euse.s
This is what is called écriture inclusive in French. It means inclusive writing.
Obviously with no equivalent in English, the translation only took care of the first word.
But it could not comprehend the other parts behind the dots/periods.
The original text was
>>les travailleur.euse.s
The last .s is for the plural, which is not even pronounced.
Because we use articles. The article helps know if it's male, female or plural.
The word les is a plural form of le and is neutral.
There is no masculine or feminine switch like for le.
Originally we would have simply wrote it
>>les travailleurs
But forced inclusiveness means that the female must not be made invisible.
Thus far leftists don't appear to be agreeing on whether it must be pronounced
>>les travailleurs euses
Or
>>les travailleurs les travailleuses
Leftists are trying very hard to have this lame écriture inclusive become the default.
Most people don't care about it or don't want it. It's annoying and useless.
It's virtue signaling.
But feminists and leftists will not let it go.
Next time you read French or come to France...
If you observe a feminization of words and an abuse of this format, you know.
You are dealing with deranged virtue signaling vocal feminists and leftists.
My country has become le shit. We are so far ahead of you.
We do not limit ourselves to a fetish for blacks arabs asians and anything not Euro.
We have love homosexuals and transsexuals.
They keep using the word love love love love love. See July 14th.
Now they are also making down syndrome people casual and mainstream.
They are like us, but with a little extra something.
But they're missing something.
Before you laugh, with a little extra something is the name of a recent movie.
Supposedly a big success although with jews you cannot know for real.
The literal retards were invited and given accolades and prizes.
We are supposed to think it's normal and cool. We should love them.
The worst part is that until recently, this expression was used nicely.
A compliment, for something that made someone unique and special to you.
Now it's perverted.
I hope I didn't bother you.

As least Krauts haven't invented anything as fucked up as the mangled singular "they" which seems to be ingrained in zoomer minds while on my end it just makes my head hurt for how intuitively wrong it is even though I'm not a native Angloburger.
