Playing this pack has really made me appreciate the QoL that tech mods other than IC2 have introduced. Something as simple as picking a side to have a machine output to is impossible in IC2, and the power situation is esoteric at best. Providing a machine with more power than it's designed to handle makes it explode unless you put a transformer upgrade in the machine, but that upgrade is practically useless, as for some reason the machines still refuse to accept more power than before.
The result of this is that, no matter how much you try to increase the speed of a machine, it will usually be locked to accepting 32 EU/t, completely nullifying the benefit of allowing the machine to accept higher amounts of EU.
This isn't even mentioning the concept of cable loss, in which you get punished for having distance between your power generation and your consumers, or the fact that IC2 insists on having its own unit of power, while just about every other tech mod in history has used RF (later renamed to FE).
One last problem I have with IC2 is the inability to automate reactor function. There's no way to detect the heat of a nuclear reactor, nor is there any way to tell when a fuel rod is spent. The result of this is a reactor system that requires babysitting, both to manually refuel, and, if you want to get any worthwhile power generation out of it, to stop it from heating up and melting down. A direct contrast can be drawn to the nuclear reactors from the mekanism mod, which can not only have their fuel and coolant automated entirely within the mod (due to mekanism having logistics items like pipes, something else that IC2 sorely lacks), but they can be scaled to almost any size you wish, and have methods through which you can automatically shut the reactor down if any problems occur.
Ultimately, while I'm sure that the situation with transformer upgrades is a bug due to this being an old version of IC2, I'm glad that mods as a whole have moved past the incomplete nature, and obscure, obfuscated mechanics of IC2.
Of course, I will still continue to play on the server, at least until I achieve the goals I had set out for myself.
