Controller arrived earlier today, and initial impressions are better than I anticipated.
Damn near every button on this thing is a mouseclick microswitch - dpad, face buttons, "SAX" buttons, 2/4 rear paddles, and even the triggers can be switched from analog to clicky buttons. It feels wildly responsive, so much better than the mushy shitty XBawks controller's buttons that the comparison isn't even fair to make, and the dpad feels even better with less travel necessary for actuation.
I haven't had much free time to play with it yet, but I did spend some time playing Rabi-Ribi with it, and I managed to beat a boss on the first try that I'd been struggling with for a bit. Certainly I can't entirely attribute this to the controller, but it's definitely a good sign.
This next part is entirely subjective, but I would say it feels good in the hand. I think I still prefer the way the XBawks and Dualsense conform to the hand, though that may change as I grow more accustomed to the controller. The analog sticks seem more comfortable to use than I'd anticipated they would, but I haven't played anything with them yet to really test that out. I'm not really big on the paddles and side buttons, but the controller does give you the ability to remove them and comes with plugs to insert in their place, which I may do. I've never found myself in a position where I need more buttons, and the actuation of rear buttons on any controller I've tested it out on feels bad. The "G" buttons along the bottom of the controller are also pleasantly easy to reach, but are also something I don't see myself having much use for right off. Volume adjustment is cool, but I mostly just use my TV remove for that.
On the subject of my TV, the biggest frustration I have with this controller right off the bat is that there is no "XBox/PS/Home" button, nor is there any way to map that action to any of the buttons. I do almost all of my controller-games-gaming on my TV, and being able to swap displays, move to my couch, and hit the XBox button to pull up Big Picture Mode was excellent, and I am going to miss being able to navigate entirely by controller.
In conclusion, my initial response leads me to believe I'll probably keep it. I'll see how it holds up in the hand after some longer sessions this weekend, but for now I give it a thumb up.
