Is there a console, a peripheral, a game, or anything vidya related that you bought only to regret it later on, and wished you never spent the money for it?
Either because it didn't deserve the amount of money spent, you didn't enjoy it enough to justify to price, or just turned out to be shit against your expectations?
I'll start with some of mine:
>Evil Twin on the PS2
I bought this game at the newsstand at budget price but it was not even worth the low asking price.
It was irredeemable trash.
>Chink handheld "Anbernic RG 350 "
I was very happy with it until it started falling apart after only a few months of use.
Not worth the money spent at all, if i ever get another chink handheld it won't be an Anbernic, that's for sure.
>PS Vita
I even pre-ordered and got it on launch day with a bunch of goodies, i loved the PSP and with this i expected "the PSP but with PS3 graphics" it was advertised as, but i got a paper weight that didn't have a fraction of the support nor the library variety that the PSP had.
I still got SOME enjoyment out of it with games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Little Big Planet, Dragon's Crown, Odin's Sphere and Gravity Rush, but still wasn't worth the money spent.
This is probably my biggest regret.
Playstation 2. The graphics had this dulling tint to them or something. Supposedly if you bought this super-expensive video cable it would fix the issue, but I wasn't going to do that. I went back to PC gaming and never looked back.

This giant crook of shit.
I paid full price for it and it was the most boring overpraised garbage I've ever played. Elden Ring beats it to a pulp in every way imaginable.

I've made a lot of bad purchases but by far the longest standing regretful purchase would have to be either buying Starbound when it just first released or No Man's Sky after buying into the bullshit "It's so much better now!" nonsense people peddled.
Starbound still isn't good even with mods because it's a shit game to its core vs. Terraria which is the fucking bomb
No Man's Sky has more content, it's all just shit and pointless and is like putting bells and whistles on a shitwagon. I still don't want to fucking drive it even if you put a fire graphic on the side, it SUCKS

Dynasty Warriors 9.
Preordered and everything. I thought it was going to be a blend of musou and RPG like what was hinted at.
>You can play as your favorite character and have them befriend people they wouldn't normally have the chance to do
>You can go out hunting and fishing
>You can explore ancient China and find treasure
etc. All of it ended up being pretty stale compared to what was promised. It's still an "okay" game, just not amazing and not as good as DW8, SW4 or WO3.
At least Dong Zhuo's granddaughter, Dong Bai was fun to play as. Too fucking bad it seems like she's not going to return in whatever the fuck DW: Origins is.

If it was pre-late 2008, this would made sense to do. The 360 actually had an impressive Japanese vidya roster until then.

Back on topic, pic related is a regret of mine, and Nintentards are still sucking its cock to this day, which pisses me off because they are just asking for more mediocre trash into this series and welcoming it with open arms.

The 3DS and its library.
It was just filled with garbage. There were so few original games on it compared to its predecessor, and its remakes/remasters didn't particularly impress me. The original games it did have were mostly shit. The best you can expect out of a 3DS game (if you don't have shit taste/low standards) is an 8.5/10, maybe a 9 if you're really lucky (I haven't been so far), which is not what you want out of a console.
To this day, the best games I've used my 3DS for are playing my DS games on it because my DSi (another massive regret, inferior to the DS Lite in every way and I didn't know it lacked backwards compatibility when I bought it) had broken shoulder buttons.
People kept telling me it was great and I was in my naive "new to online communities" phase where I believed retards on the internet merely because of the power of consensus and hype, and then when I actually started playing games on it, reality just sunk in worse and worse.
Not to mention as a device its a poorly made hunk of junk.
Maybe if you're an extreme nintendofag or a literal child this might be an acceptable device, but not for me.
It was comical to see the 3DS threads die without even a whimper back on 8chan prime after I wasted so much time in those threads. All it took was a shiny new device in the Switch for people to fuck off from it completely. The real embarrassing part were the occasional people who retroactively tried to pretend it was better than the Switch, as if anyone actually gave a genuine fuck in the first place about the thing in the first place.

>Vita
While you're correct that it was fucked over in terms of support by Sony and it did have less library variety than the PSP in some respects, it was still quite a good device. At launch it was dogshit and also overpriced with numerous problems so I can understand why you felt the way you did, on top of its lack of hackability until 2016. But once it was able to be hacked, it was great. The quality of the games it did get was great too. For example, you didn't mention Dungeon Travelers 2 nor Muramasa Rebirth which are usually also listed among the best Vita games. Also had some other heavy hitters like Steins;Gate, the Utawarerumono games, Danganronpa series, most all the Ys games, P4 Golden, Digimon Cyber Sluts, the God Eater games, Soul Sacrifice, numerous fighting games, the SRW games, the EDF games, Trillion: God of Destruction, the Senrans, many, many indie game ports, the Nosurge games, the Atelier games, the Miku games, and so on. Its library size ended up being quite respectable at the end despite its low total sales numbers.

>well-made device with near-perfect ergonomics
>basically a sturdier OLED PSP with twin sticks
>homebrew scene kept (and continues) bringing in more games
>library amped up the lewdness significantly from the PSP era
>solid emulation capacities

I got mine for like 120 and at a point in time when it already had a mature library and was able to be hacked, I haven't played a game I disliked on it yet and I take the utmost care of it. Plus the community is great and dedicated. I'm the opposite from you, I consider that one of my greatest decisions I've made with regards to vidya.

I struggle to think of any purchase that I truly bitterly regret. Probably fallout 3 comes closest. I had a little fun with it at first, but gradually I began to hate it the longer I played, and as I played through the main campaign my disgust only grew. It stung because it was a rare full price purchase. I've made other disappointing purchases but at steep discounts that eased the pain.
I am exceedingly cautious and thrifty and therefore have few of these stories. I usually wait a year before making a purchase, and the few times I haven't I have rarely been disappointed.

There's a whole lot of other things wrong with it, but the two immediate things that I despised about it were the dumbing down of the highly rewarding controls of Super Metroid and extreme linear railroading. It can never be understated how much of a giant middle finger Metroid Fusion is to the games that came before it. It would be a shitty game as a standalone title, but in the context of a Metroid fan it was an incredible insult.

It's one of those games that you either love it or hate it. Although I guess I can't complain that much since it was on sale but still.

Why the hell would you pay for a Warhammer game?

Personally, i felt that while still quite good, it didn't have the charm that Super had.
The music wasn't as good, and it looked way too colorful for the atmosphere it was going for.
Also i think the X parasite are canon-wise way too OP.
And the final boss fight was a pain in the ass.
To me is:
Super>Am2r>Zero Mission>Fusion>Nothing>A dog's turd>Dread.
Since this is the buyer's regret thread, guess which one i actually spent money for?

I dunno. I found it to be a merely "all-right" game that you shouldn't expect too much from. It has a totally borked difficulty curve though. Kinda tough in the beginning and laughably easy later on unless you set constraints for yourself.
Sound design and soundtrack is god tier though.

never imagined it would be pozzed by microkikes

What was wrong with Dread?

Its 2D metroid but with some gimmicks. Gunplay alright and so is the graphics. Its just not as groundbreaking people remember every other Metroid game was.

To me it just felt bland.
Gameplay was just okay, but mediocre in every other aspect.
Planet ZDR had nothing interesting or unique going on, the EMMI looked stupid and the mechanics involving them were garbage, the music was crap, the alien/enemy design forgettable, the story was dumb shit and graphics were washed up.
And the most important thing, there was NO FUCKING ATMOSPHERE.
Personally, what i like about Metroid was its unique blend of sci-fi and a hint of horror (the series took inspiration from Alien, after all) that in dread was completely absent.
If you ask anyone about Super, they will tell you their favorite area and related theme, in Dread all of them were uninspired and forgettable.
To see Nintentards give this game a 10/10 or even compare it to Super is a fucking joke.
Truth is, if this game didn't have the Metroid name attached to it and was instead yet another 'Metroidvania' game, the same morons would have no issues admitting how mediocre it actually it.
Again, it plays okay, but there's nothing interesting about it.
I hope anyone but Mercury Steam (hopefully some japs or retro) develops the next one.
