how is the state of TF2 nowadays? like as in community servers, i've already heard about how official servers are ass
>>236477
Absolute shit, you got 24/7 wacky and minecraft servers or uncle dane or one of the other dozen youtubers servers
uncle dane's server is filled with people who are at least good at the game but attracts cockroaches like trannys
there's a 64 bit update coming sometime soon to improve performance but other than that there's not much change in the last decade

The Tran S. Wrights thing became official specifically because of the community.

If TF2C didn't add the unfitting new weapons (the pyro melee that regens health when players are burning, and the heavy minigun that does explosive damage) I would probably still be playing it on a daily basis like I did in 2021. Granted the RPG and the reworked ubdersaw still annoyed me back then too, but at least they didn't get in the way TOO much. Pre-fortress 2 was also fun for a good while, but they ruined the point of it by making it more like regular TF2 instead of a cross between TFC and TF2. If only Fortress Forever had an impact beyond its compfag circles.

>>236477
100 player servers were added, but I've yet to try it out since I'd rather no reinstall official TF2. I believe it is in a state similar to what >>236478 said. But you can apparently still get servers where people are willing to call you a niggerkike. That feels more like the few remaining players trying to justify TF2 in relation to other "modern" MP games, so the comparison isn't all that good.

what's the fun part about tf2
>>236498
the fun died when it went f2p
>>236496
You can just dummy out or rebalance the the shitty weapons in tf2c with their custom schema system if you run your own server. Hell, I did it for a server I hosted for a while. Real problem's the mod's mostly dead.

>>236498
It's got very solid design and is fundamentally satisfying and fun to play for pretty much anyone.

>what's the fun part about tf2
you're playing rock paper scissors with a dozen people so eventually you'll fight the class that's weak to you and get the easy kill, meaning even a child with no skill whatsoever can get some frags and get the dopamine associated with it. in a game like quake, if you're a total noob and go against anyone with a modicum of skill, it's pretty much guaranteed you'll get exactly 0 kills and cry like a little bitch that the game is too hard and arena shooters suck. just play tf2 as heavy with a pocket medic and wreck entire teams just holding m1, and if you don't well you'll still rack up a couple frags here and there hitting players who aren't looking or are already low health.

The what.
So the gist I get is that you guys fucking hate the community but love the game itself, right?

I haven't loved the game since 2009.

The game hasn't been fun for me in almost a decade I just check it out every once a while see if things ever improve and it's either the same or worse
Deep Rock Galactic replaced it for me and as for real fps PVP games there's a bunch of games with small dedicated communities or overwatch as the only real modern fps game without aim assist cancer if you don't want to play tac fps where nothing happens then everyone dies within a minute or gets extended by another 30 seconds and have to be extremely autistic about how you move just so you are not at a disadvantage

Depends on what version of the game we're talking about.
>>236524
Man I just want to play tf2 that existed at the kritz update (with air blast and the basic engie updates) with new maps and the events.
Demoman melee (except the grenade melee weapon), soldier, scout and spy updates broke the game.

The game had that old Valve magic, great characters and art design, good balance most of the time, and practically infinite content thanks to community servers. The fact it was a "contribute to the war effort" kind of game rather than one which idolized killstreaks and single-player highlights was a huge factor in making it fun and successful.

Then it helped to introduce and normalize loot crates, the free-to-play microtransaction squeeze, horrendous cosmetics, the slow and permanent death of community servers in favor of matchmaking funnels, and most flavors of modern cancer. I popped my head back in around 2021 and the old magic was still there for a bit, but it wasn't the same. I called someone a nigger on a skial server and got automuted for 24 hours (which is better than being banned, but nevertheless . . .).

The real issue with TF2 is the same problem Counter Strike GO had, where the original game had so much stuff grafted onto it and maintained a dedicated player base for so long that any attempt to make a sequel would only be competing with itself. All the games that have tried to take TF2's crown have either died due to publisher fuckery or just been shitty in the first place (Overwatch, Battleborn). There are reams of others that haven't even made a dent in the industry.

I miss it too but it's completely gone and it'll never be updated to a state where it will be playable again even if you ignore all the changes
Valve's anti cheat is a joke and is ruining counter strike at the moment
