While new generation consoles and PC keeps getting garbage with only some rare exceptions here and here, some passionate developers all over the world are developing new games for old consoles.
Let's talk about games that were released years after those console got discontinued, and even upcoming ones.
Personally, i can't wait for the new shoot 'em up by Yuzo Koshiro "Earthion" on the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis
Another one is "Goodboy Galaxy" for the Game Boy Advance, that impressed me mostly for the great animations.
Any new games for old console you are looking for? Or any game you want to talk about, or even recommend?

If you visits their itch.io page they other NES games, all downloadable for free, Like Spacegulls that is a fun platform where you control seagulls in space, Bobl, a water based puzzle/platformer and Mosh Lift, a tower climbing game for 1 or 2 players.
Only for Micro Mages they are asking for money.
I downloaded it for free anyway

Rikki_&_Vikki_-_An_Exclusive_Invitation-nt3Bej3UEEA.mp4
[Hide] (9.1MB, 1280x720, 00:53)
I mentioned this game a bit when it first released but Rikki & Vikki is a very solid 2D puzzle platformer that was made to be compatible with the Atari 7800. There's a native Windows port of course, and you could even buy a physical cartridge for a limited time.
>The Atari 7800 ProSystem version of Rikki & Vikki ceased production on November 6, 2020 after shipping 550 units.

It's a shame the game didn't get much buzz; I think it was a bit too authentic, in that some of its systems are opaque and you need to game over a few times before you unlock the option to have infinite continues. It's genuinely really smartly designed that way - you can play it as a traditional console game but if you're bad then you can make it easier - but even getting to that point may have frustrated some number of players before they tried it again. Puzzle platformers where you die in a single hit are a tough sell these days, I think; most people dislike that kind of knife's edge difficulty.

That said, the game is a modern gem. I don't think it's a stretch to say this is the best art and music the Atari 7800 has even seen.

Some more screenshots. I'd include the official trailer but it has grating voice acting where there isn't any in the real game.

Solving each puzzle was fun and challenging, as was the nervous feeling I got when I descended deeper after every level, wondering when I'd run into a boss or some dangerous hazard that ate up my lives. Finding the secret world afterwards was a pleasant challenge, and I honestly don't recall exactly how I did it.

The game is also playable in co-op, which is an entirely separate series of levels and bosses. You can only get the true ending playing in co-op, and that would be good fun if the game had any kind of online at all. It's a very hardcore design decision and I respect it, but I am effectively locked out of playing that part of the game unless I train my feet to work a gamepad.

My only real gripe is that the boss of the sand world has an attack pattern where he disappears, and then reappears and attacks you, and his movement while invisible is completely random and unpredictable. I lost a fair number of attempts at him simply because he appeared right on top of me, and I literally did not have time to react and move out of the way.

is that tower toppler? i played that on the wii when it had a virtual console release
It seems that the Mega Drive (Genesis) is the most popular console when it comes to new releases.
Some people are making a CastleVania: Symphony of the Night post for it, pretty impressive stuff.
They also released a demo for it.

I was really excited for Metroid Prime 2D and look at what happened, Nintendo find out and forced the devs to cancel the game.

Money. Legal systems around the world are too flawed and corrupt. If you're broke (i.e., you don't have as much money as [insert name of major corporation]), then it literally doesn't matter if you're right, you're going to lose the case either way because you can't afford the best lawyers (read: most corrupt).

Either that, or develop the title under a different name, for instance "Another DetroiM 2 Remake - Starring Sumas Anar" and then release a patch with the right names after you are done.
>>235473
>"literally"
But yeah, you are right, that's why the justice system needs a reform, to not let these corporations feel unaccountable of their actions just because they have money and the average joe can't afford to pay a lawyer for a legal dispute that can take forever to be solved.
>>235481
Completely agree with your first two points. If these games were developed as "Adventures of RoboLady in Space" with tongue-in-cheek nod toward potential mods which are in no way planned, there is nothing Jewtendo could do.

>the justice system needs a reform, to not let these corporations feel unaccountable
Not to start politicsfagging but seeing as how every other attempt at "reform" for the past 50 years has been destroyed or co opted by moneyed interests, I would sooner avoid the system than try to adapt it.

That's why i wrote "Another DetroiM 2 Remake - Starring Sumas Anar" because that is what the AM2R should have done and avoid getting that C&D from Jewtendo.
Speaking of AM2R, i downloaded a mod to change the title screen to Metroid 2 that is far more pleasing, so imagine that but with both the game's title and the characters' names.
<The Legend of Delza: Kinl's adventure
<Super Nario Bros
<Birky: adventure in dreamland
And then sneakily slap the actual title and characters' name at the last second, so Jewtendo could only suck a big fat cock in that case, especially if the developers claims pretends to know nothing about the name changing mod.
If the devs of Metroid Prime 2D would have called it "Detroim Prime 2D" instead, probably it would be still a thing.

Yeah, they're never going to go the route of making an "OC Donut Steel" game because these people don't actually care about putting quality content. What these people are is attention seekers, specifically people who are looking to get hired by these companies. They're the reason "Hire this man" became such a meme, except now they're doing it through fan games rather than Unreal tech demos.

Funnily enough, that's basically what the people who made the Vita port of AM2R went with. "Another Monster 2 Remake", with any trademarked term changed from what I recall. Never actually beat it because, at least back when I played it, the port softlocked at Serris. I don't think it ever got properly fixed, either.

But as >>235513 says, a lot of people remaking games, or making fangames, regardless of how competent they actually are, are clout chasers. Sure, they might be big fans of the series/game they're working on themselves, but it's also an easier way to be talked about by other people than making something original, and that's not a benefit they get by keeping their project to themselves, or at least to a small group of people for testing. Instant buzz and a likely side of C&D versus delayed gratification and a truly finished, polished game.

Has anyone here tried Deadeus released on 2019 on the Game Boy?
Pretty rare to think about playing a horror game on the Game Boy.
I think that the spooky screens are cool and very well done but somehow clash with cute chibi style of the rest of the game.
I think the dev should have used a different game style, or maybe make a VN instead of this Zelda-like type of game.
I appreciated the effort anyway and it is still a nice experiment to see on a Game Boy

I would like to hear your opinion on this guy who was developing a remake of Tomb Raider 2:
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=M91Chraid6o
Apparently, THQnordic told him that he was free to develop and release it at one condition only:
That he had to release it for free and not ask any money for it.
And this guy quit after that.
If that is exactly how things went, i don't feel like blaming THQnordic for that, but that dude for wanting to make money out of a fan remake.
What are your thoughts?
Replies: >>236017
>>236010
>What are your thoughts?
The guy is thieving scum and an example of what I said. He only wants credit and benefits for something he didn't create nor own, except superficially. If he really wanted to continue with his project and earn money off of it, then he should have removed all the copywritten elements belonging to THQ and made it his own thing. However if he had continued with the project and released it for free, I would consider him to be foolish at most because all that work was done for free for the benefit of THQ, but I'd at least give him credit for doing it more for the passion rather than the recognition.

I think the game was supposed to come out in 2013-2014 but kept being delayed over and over again with everyone thinking it was never going to come out, and then, 2 or 3 years ago some backers received their copies.
While the other ones are still waiting for theirs.
