Whose decision was it to make the final boss of Fusion sound like Tim Allen? Oh yeah and anyways Metroidvania thread.
Played any good romhacks lately? The handheld Castlevanias still have an active community.
Do you find yourself using speedrunning tech casually?
Team Ladybug: Breath of fresh air or cancer?
Will anything ever top SotN?
Is Hollow Knight actually good or is it just >reddit
Lots of burning questions. Lots of things to discuss. Let's go.
>ROMhacks
I have never actually played any hacks of any search action games.
>Castlevania
I really like how Order of Ecclesia slowly goes from small linear maps to big dick Drac's Castle. I like how you actually have to think a little to survive the early game, too.
>speedrunning tech
I don't like it. I'm playing to have a relaxing time killing shit and filling out the map, not to impress anyone.
>Team Ladybug
I played Konosuba, Pharoah Rebirth and some of Deedlit, but I enjoyed them all.
>SotN supremacy
I think Portrait is slightly better, honestly.
>Hollow Knight
My brother likes it, but he went tranny a while ago, so all his opinions are moot. Distance yourself from trannies. The narcissism is very real.

>Whose decision was it to make the final boss of Fusion sound like Tim Allen?
Fusion has fantastic sound effects for the GBA. I especially love Ridley's screams, he does not liking being hit with missiles. Really fun game to replay.
>Played any good romhacks lately?
No not at the moment. I am currently playing Yohanne the parhelion Blaze in the deepblue, because I am a sucker for anything made by inti creates. It's funny that the Castlevania clone is linear platformer while the Love Live spin-off is a full on metroidvania. It looks great, sounds great and plays great. It's light on story, but that's honestly fine for a love live spin-off. Only thing I am not sold on is the crafting system, but it does give you a good incentive to fight the enemies instead of just avoiding them.
>Do you find yourself using speedrunning tech casually?
No idea, I don't really watch speedruns.
> Team Ladybug: Breath of fresh air or cancer?
I think their games are fantastic. Luna nights and Drainus are definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
>Will anything ever top SotN?
We can always hope.
>Is Hollow Knight actually good or is it just >reddit
No idea. I tend to avoid games that attract that crowd.

Is this the non-gay term to name this kind of games? Have never seen it being used in my entire life and I instantly prefer it over "metroidvanias".

Sorry for your loss. Hope you don't have to deal with him in the regular.
How do your parents feel about this ordeal? Did they oppose it or are they laissez-faire faggots?

How can you not like that or the earrape that is the Ridley scream?

Do randomizers count?
If not, no, just started TEVI after finally 100% Axiom Verge 2 (so not worth it)
>Do you find yourself using speedrunning tech casually?
No and I dont follow speedrunning as closely anymore so I would´nt even know what games have which techniques
>Team Ladybug
Played Luna Nights and their SMT game and I think they are pretty cool
>Will anything ever top SotN?
I prefer Order of Ecclesia
>Hollow Knight
Its been on my list for ages, but I´ve yet to play it

>Team Ladybug: Breath of fresh air or cancer?
Their sprite art and sound effects are great but the game balance usually has some kind of gamebreaking problem or oversight that could easily be corrected. Touhou Luna Nights has the thousand-dagger throwing attack (that is used in one of this board's banners, strangely enough) where your character is invincible and frozen in place for about three seconds - and you still get graze bonuses for "narrowly dodging" attacks, meaning you can actually gain MP for using the attack when a boss shoots a wave of projectiles at you. Incredibly dumb and I don't know how a glitch like this wasn't caught during testing. Every boss fight after acquiring that power is focused entirely on cheesing the boss with it.

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth has a similar problem due to the two-color system and a couple of more powerful spells, which again lock you in place and make you invincible.

Honestly, I think Pharaoh Rebirth+ was the game I had the most fun with since it was all original and the character didn't acquire a huge list of super-powerful attacks that invalidated any challenge by the end of the game. I never did figure out how to reach the super secret old man boss.

It's a good game with beautiful art direction, a great sense of exploration, uplifting music, thoroughly mediocre combat, and some canonically gay characters (two females and two males, if memory serves). You do have the option to kill one of the men before he becomes a fag and to leave the woman mourning her dead girlfriend forever so whether it's cucked or based will depend on how many redpills you've taken on a particular day. The protagonist is also technically nonbinary but that's because he's meant to have no identity whatsoever, which is a plot point.

I pirated it, played it thoroughly in 2017 when it first released, and had a good time. The developers added a lot of stuff via free updates and have generally not been cocksuckers so I don't think buying it would be bad. Silksong looks very promising but it probably won't be released before the heat death of the universe.

The reason why most people may not want to associate with HK is because the fandom has mostly been overtaken by bug fuckers (understandable; Hornet is cute), speedrunners, tumblr users, and trannies - but I repeat myself.

Kill yourself.

>the non-gay term
It's allegedly what Japanese indie devs use to describe the genre but I've literally only ever seen it on the Steam page for The Witch and 99 Mushrooms demo. I think it's just a retarded term that some contrarians have tried to push because they're too autistic to understand that "metroidvania" doesn't include literally every Metroid and Castlevania game ever made.

This
Speedrunning was always an autistic thing

>Is this the non-gay term to name this kind of games?
It's from the phrase 探索型アクション (search-style action).
Japs also use the term metroidvania (メトロイドヴァニア).

Personally, I prefer "Metroid-like". Castlevania just diluted the concept with extraneous RPG mechanics.

>How do your parents feel about this ordeal?
My dad died before finding out, and my mom tries to be supportive because she believes everything she sees on TV, but her actual feelings keep bubbling to the surface when they interact so there's tons of drama. Polite sage for off topic.
Just finished Portrait of Ruin. Really liked it. Might be my favorite GBA/DS Vania so far. The relative lack of grinding unless you are dedicated enough to master the skills (which I didn't even know was a thing until I had to look up some stuff on the game) was also a big plus for me after Dawn of Sorrow was full tilt with the amount of grinding. Any complaints I have for it are mostly superfluous at least.

Anyway
>Played any good romhacks lately?
Never checked out romhacks before, and just been focusing on actual games when I'm in the mood for metroidvanias.
>Do you find yourself using speedrunning tech casually?
I'll only do speed running tech if I want to get around faster. Otherwise I don't really care.
>Team Ladybug: Breath of fresh air or cancer?
I've only played Luna Nights, but that alone was very solid. I do want to check out the Deedlit game, but I'd like to either rewatch Lodoss or read the novels since they finally got translated first. No idea why anyone would consider them cancerous. Luna nights did feel far too linear to be sure, but playing as Sakuya with her time stop shenanigans more than made up for the lack of exploration.
>Will anything ever top SotN?
A game is only ever going to top SotN for me if it has as much, if not more abilities/ways to fight than SotN. Bloodstained was close, but it had the same problems I had with Portrait of ruing where there was no real reason to use Spells/Shards because the main weapons worked well enough.
>Is Hollow Knight actually good or is it just >reddit
I've yet to play it, but I think everybody I personally know who played it recommended it. Not sure how much pozz is in it, but sadly any game that gets a "community" is doomed unless people are able to still talk about it without pushing the cancer onto everybody else.

Moonlit Farewell has been out for a while now and it is pretty great. Not as concise and straightfoward as RutM was. Lacking juuuust a tiny bit in the soundtrack department (though, can anything really beat the Royal Pinacotheca?). A lot harder (could just be me getting old) and a lot more content than RutM though. Prettier and way more atmospheric than RutM was with its enviroments and a lot more variety. Not a dissapointment at all, stands up on its own, but it does drag on and feels way too long at times.

Bow and arrow was significantly nerfed compared to RutM, but is compensated by melee attacks, combos and perfect dodging being a lot stronger. It is a little bit harder to see enemy telegraphs though, but its not that difficult to see enemies' patterns. You can still end bosses in a few seconds with just the bow if you spec for it though. Power progression is a lot more balanced through the whole game, and even going through old areas you can still die if you're not careful.

Don't forget to smack the bell to save. Or, if you wanna challenge yourself. Only save if you have enough lunar bits to pray an offering. Was fun doing that for a while.

I really liked Portrait of Ruin myself. Would have liked it more if it hadn't kept freezing on me repeatedly in the latter half.
>Dawn of Sorrow was full tilt with the amount of grinding.
Doesn't help Dawn of Sorrow that the Luck stat is literally broken. If you played the standard release, give it a try patched if you opt to replay it.
