Oi, Zelda, innit?
Now that the dust has settled, what do you think about ToTK? Was it worth the hype? Or was it all one big asset flip? And what about that live-action Zelda movie? I, for one, am terrified of it. But yeah, talk about Zelda, keep it civil. and no Zelink.

Both BotW and TotK were mediocre AT BEST, if they weren't called "The Legend of Zelda" everybody would admit how boring and bad they actually were, but because of "that franchise name of muh childhood" they got all the undeserving praise they got (well that and Nintendo bribing journos as usual)
10 out of 10 my ass.

I mean, yeah. I'm ultimately underwhelmed by the game and don't really want to play it again. OOT's probably my favorite in terms of gameplay and atmosphere, and villian. OOT Ganondorf is so cheesy he goes back to being badass. TotK Ganondorf is a faggot with a shitty voice, and his ass handed to him by a furfag. And so much about him is unexplained. Like, is Calamity Ganon(faggot name) related to Ganondorf? Is he still a threat even after Ganondorf's death? Where's all the Sheikah technology? Why is rock vore now canon to Zelda? WHO APPROVED OF THIS DOGSHIT??!?!?!??!

The fact that Majora's Mask was able to provide a unique experience, despite blatantly reusing assets and being made in a year, better than ToTK is just a sign for things to come with Nintendo as a whole. Not the first or last person to say this, but I don't care, it's lazy as fuck and barely improves on a base that I already wasn't a fan of.
Anyways, I've been recently replaying through LTTP via the PC port:
https://github.com/snesrev/zelda3
I don't really notice any differences between this and using BSNES to play through the game, but it comes with a higher resolution and some cheats, so I'm using that as an excuse to replay an old game for the 50th time instead of trying something new.

All Nintendo franchises have felt too sanitized since the Wii U era.
Long gone are the days of stuff like Strikers Charged, Jungle Beat and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.
I bet that after remaking TTYD and SMRPG they're not taking any notes and just going back to more bland shit.
We need to go back to pre-BotW Zelda, only to discover that Nintendo is a shadow of its former self, inb4 nintendo wuz never good, and they release a shittier version of Zelda that people eat up because "OMG IT'S GOT REFERENCES/IT'S JUST LIKE THE OLD GAMES!!!!"

Favorite Zelda game is Link to the Past. All others suck my dong, but I never had a 64 to try OOT or Majora, so me biased.. Games need less giant fuckall open world with nothing in it, need smaller world with a specific path you have to follow, but you can explore it and discover things and maybe find secrets and feel awe (not that any of us will, that stupid shit will only happen to the children we will never have). Make that smaller world change as you go through as a replacement for levels, or they can carbon copy the Dark World idea and make the world the same size but nasty after a transformation. Have not played TotK, looks gay. Scale is too big, time on earth is too little.

Oh, shit! I had no idea. The only things I know about cuckchan's /v/ is that the entire board consists of obvious bait and "would you fuck this character" Sorry about that.
>>231246
And that's my problem. In a way, it's felt like that after Iwata died. Not to ride on his decomposing cock, but Nintendo changed after his death. And it's really starting to show. I mean, we've had a couple of stand-out games (Fire Emblem Three Houses), but yeah. Their shit is getting really pander-y, and the story of TotK was atrocious. I have a feeling that the reason why ToTK had barely any prerelease material was because it was mostly the fucking same game. That, and Zelda's a whore who stole Link's house.
I still haven't finished BotW, it's just the same content on repeat after the first few hours and no real dungeons. TotK looks slightly better because bintendo realized they can do the physics toolbox puzzles Source mods did two decades ago but I haven't tried it.
I don't know why I even started playing BotW when there are a ton of other Zeldo games I've never played.

WW HD is definitely the better playing experience, but the bloom is truly hideous and does genuinely the game's look. I don't think Wii U modding was every very popular but if there were a mod that simply disabled the bloom filter then WW HD would be the inherently superior game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mechanically, BotW and especially TotK are really interesting and fun games. On the level design front, they really leave a lot to be desired. The overworld is incredibly bland despite huge parts of it requiring interacting with the temperature mechanics, the shrines are alright but not nearly enough to make up for that fact, BotW has one dungeon repeated 4 times (5 if you include the DLC) and the alright Hyrule Castle while TotK's dungeons are a step up but still nothing impressive. I appreciate that most quests require you to think and not just follow the glowing dot but few of them are that great and only a handfull approach MM levels of general quality. If you just want to fuck around, or somehow mod the game, you might have a great time, but on their own they're just okay. I'll still take that over SS ruining it's own solid game design (especially the entirety of the sand area) with the worst shit imaginable (especially the entirety of the lava area), but as somebody who liked the first Zelda I'm not satisfied.

The game fizzled out much quicker than Botw for me. I’ve been here before, I’ve DONE this ALL BEFORE. The sky islands are barren and boring, and there’s not a whole lot of them either. The depths are like this game’s attempt at a Dark World, but with all the interesting bits removed. There could have been so much more down there, like different biomes and Sheikah ruins, more Zonai ruins, give us more information about the Zonai while you’re at it. Story was contrived garbage, easily the worst Zelda narrative, hands down. I know Zelda games have never really been rooted in reality, I know they’re high-fantasy, but the whole rock-Vore-become-a-dragon nonsense was probably the dumbest plot point in a Zelda game. Why do Zelda games need manaketes? The Zonai devices are gimmicky and clunky, and ultimately, aren’t rooted deep enough in the game’s DNA to be all that useful. The sages powers all fucking suck, especially when compared to the champion’s powers. And of course the lack of mentions to Botw’s events is also frustrating, and create gaping plotholes. It pisses me off to no end that this unfinished dlc can be sold for $70. It could have been so much more. It could’ve been so much better. And not to mention:

The little bit I've played of TOTK it did feel the same thing except added sky islands. I was happy for the first little part where it seemed more to the islands then I kinda advanced in the game to find it just wasn't exciting as well.

It's really fun to actually use the game's mechanics in a scenario that is meant to be somewhat challenging. There's a reason people like Eventide Island in BotW (the shrines based on it in TotK are alright, and it's the right choice to not repeat the exact same fucking thing twice, but the way shrines work mean that even with a noclip power and battlebots they'll never quite hit the level of Eventide).
>>232542
I generally like most of the Xenoblade titles. Of the entries on Switch, 1DE is overall really bog standard but was impressive for the Wii and it's fairly enjoyable, 2 is really great but the game doesn't explain the mechanics well at all so you might need to find an outside tutorial to actually have fun with it unfortunately, and 3 is sort of in between the two overall. If you want to suffer and own a Wii U or Wii U emulator, you can try X if you want.

>Have you played any of the Xenoblade games? I've been sitting on them for a while and want to know how they are.
I can only speak of Xenoblade X, but it's basically an offline MMO in terms of gameplay. Best comparison is to Sega's Phantasy Star Online series. However, there are some key differences. For one, while all battles are active in real-time you do not actually "control" your character's attacks. The game does that automatically. But you can control certain things such as your character's placement in the field, which weapon is in use, and certain "spells" and "special attacks". There's also an occasional QTE that you have to press that can boost the "moral" and stats of companions. As far as leveling, this is where the MMO grind really sets in as you cannot actually fight enemies who are even two levels above you. You spend much of game defeating enemies at or below your character's level for the purposes of being able to fight enemies in areas with higher levels. There's some basic resource gathering and the map is open-world.

As I said, this may differ in each of the game's specifically, but it should give you an idea of what to expect.

>>233310
>I hear nothing but praise about this game
I frankly don't understand why there is anyone calling for it to be ported again and again. Having played it the gameplay was fun when I early on found ~70% of the map is completely accessible very early in the game. Then I did the bare minimum of the story to get the mecha and explored the rest of the map. But the story is easily the worst of the series, where the only known survivors of earth are expected to share their city with all the other aliens who have their own damn planets to live on.
It also doesn't help that because you can explore the whole map before the story gets there. It shoots itself in the foot acting like no one ever passed these areas when you can walk all the way to the main villain's HQ and stand right on top of it before you even know who the main villains are, and the entire time the villains are actively hunting the remaining humans.
Game also leans way too heavily into the MMO influence. Early on this isn't an issue, but the game only gives a handful of mecha to build until endgame when they suddenly reveal stronger variants that can only obtained through endless grinding. And while a portion of the grinding is in the overworld, a lot of it is in the arena, which is juch an empty room inside your base and requires fighting variants of the bosses over and over until you luck out on the 1% chance of obtaining the 5x items you need.

That and giant mechs, which are always cool. X-fags probably don't have to worry too much since the Xenoblade 3 DLC casually implies Xenogears, X, and Xenoblade are all in the same universe. And with Xenoblade being assumed done, the devs got to pick some other angle to expand their autistic story.

No? I mean, retards that only like the first game and are wrong exist, but that's true of a lot of games. The only really truly awful Xeno- titles are Xenosaga 2 and the second disc of Xenogears. The rest range from scuffed to actually good.
>>233307
Just explore and do quests for leveling, although that depends on how much either of that appeals to you (if it doesn't then X is not a great pick of Xenoblade games, which are already a bad pick for that sort of taste). I'd argue that having Overdrive unlocked is probably a requirement and comes a little late in the story for what is essentially making the combat not miserable, but still.

>But her gender in the data is 2!
That's for bosses, for some fucking reason. It's like the same thing in 2 that has the 5 "genders", girl, guy, large guy, dog, and Roc (entirely so he can't be a good mission guy for some reason).

All fat-related fetishes look the same to me, it's kinda suspicious that you can tell the difference :/
TotK was BotW but worse

>new weapon fusion mechanic was stupid and you'd always end up using white bokoblin horns
I tended to use fusions that had more "effects", but yeah if I wanted to just use a weapon I'd just fuse whatever the largest amount of a good drop I have (usually some sort of robot part)
>the depths felt just empty with the same yiga fortresses over and over and those roots that give you jack shit
I do sort of like the idea of a mostly optional harder area of the game, but given the highlight is boss refights that's not a great look
>the construction mechanic was worthless, you'd never make something that actually works well and ultimately there are few (or no) dungeons that require you to build something interesting
I feel this mostly comes down to the type of person. I got some use out of a couple different vehicles throughout the playthrough, a mix between some basic stuff I threw together and some schematics I found. If you don't engage with it (which is very easy to do) it might seem pointless. For me, that experience was cooking in BotW.
>the horse is faster and more reliable than any car you would make
Depends on the terrain, but yeah boats and aircraft are generally better.
>plane wings just disappeared after a while so you had to use exploits if you wanted to fly around for more than a minute or so
There's other flying machines you can use, which instead use a resource you have. It is a little disappointing wings specifically have this problem but otherwise you have the Super Mario World problem instead.
>combat was uninteresting and the backflip jump made the final boss trivial
The combat in most Zelda games is uninteresting. At least BotW and especially TotK let you use the other systems the game has for combat purposes, and with some slight changes to the enemies and systems in TotK it encourages it a little more. But if you go into it raw yeah it's just hitting hitboxes until they die in a mostly unengaging way. Gleeok is probably the most interesting fight and they still didn't add Darknuts which would probably have been sick if they put Lynel level effort into them.
I think the main problem with both games is the attitude some players have. If you go in trying to fuck around with the systems you're more likely to have fun than if you're going in to play the 10th linear Zelda experience that peaked in MM on console titles. I blame Link to the Past, but I just hate that game for some reason. I just hope that for the next game, they reconsider some of the design decisions, because unfortunately TotK didn't fix a lot of BotW's actual problems (uninteresting map design overall, the dungeons still aren't super great, the game has so few natural chokepoints and gives the player too much to get around them to create a proper Zelda experience like the first game).

Sure but you don't see much on the ocean outside of rupee barrels until you hit an island and then everything worth exploring is within 100 metres of it.

I don't think both BOTW or TOTK really were worth the hype all that much but granted they're alright to play still.
