FEATURING RAIDEN II, GAIAPOLIS, EXVANIA AND MORE LATER
Somewhere near the woods lies a gas station, neatly placed seemingly in the middle of nowhere; however, it is far from desolate. For there anons from all around gather inside a room. A room filled to the top with arcade machines. There, anons enjoy the evening drinking, calling each other faggot and just having a good old time.
>What is this?
Anons play some fucking arcade games. Arcade games that don't take long to complete and reward skill. Once finished they post their score and see who did the best. They give others advice, share what they think of the game, call each other casuals, say which character they would fuck and more.
>How much time do I have to play?
Forever, as I'm switching to a rolling release format. I have the whole 3.7TB MAME set and a bunch of No-Intro sets on top of that, so just ask for whatever game you like and I'll upload it so we can play with our joysticks together. (no homo)
>How do I play them?
If you can't figure it out, bitch at me and I'll post a text file.
>Where da ROMs at?
Here: https://pixeldrain.com/u/tg8zHp2x

RAIDEN II
>classic looping STG that took a really long time to emulate perfectly
>alien crystals take over military machines or something, go shoot them
>origin of the legendary TOOTHPASTE LASER

GAIAPOLIS
>overhead beat-em-up with RPG leveling
>Parn, a slutty fairy, and an autistic scalie team up to fight the obligatory evil empire
>also, it's post-apocalyptic fantasy so there's robots and stuff

EXVANIA
>Bomberman clone with flails
>yes, flails
>fucking flails

Can confirm, this fits into our criteria of approved games.
Though, our board is called something different here on webring in order to distinguish ourselves from the tranny filled board on cuckchan.

A "high" score for Raiden II. I got reckless one time and couldn't recover because all the pickups were different colors.

Throwing more ROMs on the fire to get it going again. All Namco stuff for no particular reason.

DRAGON BUSTER
>janky platformer with fucktons of mazelike levels
>odd hitboxes and questionable physics are your bane, even more than infinitely respawning enemies
>still kinda fun, and is the basis for the kickass Dragon Valor on PS1

MARCHEN MAZE
>slanted isometric overhead multidirectional platform shooter where you can jump
>an adorable loli must save Wonderland from evil toys or something
>you can't die unless you fall off the edge, so go crazy

MR. DRILLER
>side view digging puzzle game
>you need to grab air as you go, but blocks will fall from above if there's nothing supporting them
>the intended game res is 512x480 with 1:1 pixel aspect (MAME reports this wrong for some reason)

NEBULASRAY
>pretty but rather standard overhead STG
>actually kinda tough before you get enough powerups
>enable rapid fire to save your thumb

THE OUTFOXIES
>assassins all try to kill each other so their mutual employer can get a stiffy
>complex arenas with power-up oriented gameplay that almost certainly inspired Smash Bros.
>of course there's multiplayer; try it on Fightcade
Of course I forget the link like a dumbass.

To commemorate MAME release torrents finally adding the last few computer ROMs needed to complete all 40448 sets and sate my audit autism, here are the two CAVE games that got removed to stop ExA from suing the project into nonexistence. They won't be listed in regular MAME, but the ARCADE64 build supports them.

ARCADE64 here: https://arcade.mameworld.info/
ROMs here: https://pixeldrain.com/u/3hjSdBzg

AKAI KATANA
>sidescrollan' bullet hell following the Progear formula
>odd semi-belt perspective allows ground targets to be at differing heights on the screen
>I played as the middle girl and her options have an interesting swing effect that makes them feel different from Gradius

DODONPACHI SAIDAIOUJOU
>grimdark bullet hell with more cute girls
>first level's a bit more aggressive than previous games in the series
>big explosions use a crossframe fade effect that slows everything down; I don't know if the slowdown is accurate emulation or just the software rendering not being able to keep up

Hey faggots! Thought I'd let the thread die just because nobody cares and the site's bleeding traffic due to bad actors?

WELL, TOO FUCKING BAD! HERE ARE THREE TAITO GAMES.

https://files.catbox.moe/32zatp.zip (Pixeldrain now requires an account to upload)

ELEVATOR ACTION -RETURNS-
>work for The Man and take down filthy communists and their robots
>the first level's a tribute to the OG Elevator Action, then shit gets real
>you can play as a cute girl

DARIUS GAIDEN: SILVER HAWK
>the first Darius game without an ultrawidescreen release
>protect the surviving humans and find the missing colony fleet while tripping balls
>finding the fleet seems to be the canon ending

AKKANBEDER a.k.a. SPACE INVADERS '95: ATTACK OF THE LUNAR LOONIES
>it's the classic shit, but updated for modern ('90s Japan) audiences
>different characters have different abilities, and there are a bunch of mechanically different enemies
>every few stages you fight a boss and go to another world with different environmental conditions

Remember to play Darius Gaiden with the default firing rate. It's actually well balanced around it, you just gotta git gud. There is a cultlike attitude in the "shmup" fan community where everyone just cheats their asses off like little bitches with rapidfire hacks and then complains about the game being too easy.

Thoughts on Elevator Action
>you WILL credit feed and you will be happy
>no seriously there are a ton of places where you can get killed by cheap shots or unblockable setups, and you only get 2 lives per credit with no extends
>picking the cute girl is actually a good idea, her bomb leaves a pool of instant kill fire and you will spend a lot of time waiting in a single place while enemies swarm you
>use bombs wisely
>elevators will crush you even if you just died 5 seconds ago and still have invincibility
>your jump flinches enemies you come in contact with, use this to keep mobile

You just have to move carefully and somewhat methodically. Once you understand the physics, it's actually one of the easier arcade games. I recommend Elevator Action Returns to people who are new to the idea of single-credit clearing. Another helpful tip is that rockets clear any enemy bullets in their path of flight, making the L power-up very useful for survival.

Had already taken Darius Gaiden for a spin multiple times because music and testing shader stuff for the first time but never even got to savescum properly.
Taking the chance to state that even if the OST is enjoyable on its own, playing D and making the right calls on the boss patterns for a bit made the bgm shine in a whole new way. Also

Yes, I haven't been to a party in years.

Marchen Maze and Dragon Buster gave me real 'this is what arcade is about' vibes with their young kid oriented themes and straightforward gameplay.
I try not to tire myself out but MM I practiced and experimented with quite a bit but the platforming broke me. Dragon Buster (score) was a fluke, everything good and bad one pulls off in DB feels good but also like a fluke on a loose stick while getting distracted by the reflection on the display.
Not practicing/savestating seems to keep the Gas Station magic flowing so it's gonna be my default outside my personal 1cc grind.

Thought I'd do another one-life clear out of respect for this post. This time with Jad, my least favorite character. Screwed up right before the final boss and had to settle for one death though. This seems to be one of my higher scores even though this was a crap clear. I wasn't even trying to gather lots of points, maybe Jad is better for scoring somehow.

I'm second place to an actual arcadehead, this is most likely the zenith of my gaming ability. Until any other anon gives it a shot at least.

It's about to be a month and the only reason I haven't tried Elevator or Space Invaders is that I want to take a comfy time to enjoy them for the first time (only a test spin in SP'95, it was amazing) but comfy times don't arrive. You have to make them yourself.
