Let's begin again. The other thread was about to die anyway.
Hopefully we can keep this one alive for another 4 years and bring some new content to it.

First picture doesn't made so much sense, because it doesn't make sense having the water exposed to the sun. It would be better having the water stored and just having a regular landing port.

Would this design be possible to make, or even be usable?
Replies: >>1458 >>1459 >>1463
>>1457
That is a side striking flintlock with a cylinder.
While it is ''technically' physically possible to make work, there is absolutely no reason to ever do it since it'd be incredibly impractical and anyone that could make it would have been able to make a cap and ball revolver far easier.
Plus, that design wouldn't even be a revolver, you'd have to manually turn the cylinder since the side-mounted hammer system wouldn't allow for the mechanism.
The more I look at it, the more I am left wondering "Why?"
Replies: >>1459 >>1463
>>1457
Yes, that layout is possible but this particular example is poorly designed and it would need to have its proportions fixed to actually operate.
>>1458
Maybe it is like, 16 century prototype? Revolving rifles were a thing even back then but there were like 2 workshops in germany which actually could make something like that.

There are/were multi cylinder, manually operated, matchlock and flintlock guns made irl so it's certainly possible. It's a bit awkward design though.
If it were an actual revolver then it would need left or right offset sights since the cylander is completely in the way. Which is fine by me because I think horizontal offset sights are neat.

That is not a revolver. That is a multi-barreled firearm.
They're not even remotely the same concept.

It is a revolver. Sort of. A manual pepperbox sort of thing. It may not be super obvious but every barrel has a touch hole for the match, so it's not volley gun.
I wanted to post a matchlock turret revolver but I can't seem to find my image.

>It is a revolver.
'It is not a revolver.'
A revolver has very specific requirements to be considered a revolver, one of which is a rotating cylinder that is separate from the barrels.
A Gatling Gun is not a revolver despite the fact the barrels rotate.

A pepperbox revolver is still a revolver. Although now I my mind is a bit of a mess, because revolver cannons are a thing, and if you made a Gatling gun with a series of chambers but only a single barrel, then you would have something like a revolver cannon.
Replies: >>1473
Lets begin with the fact that the hammer is on the opposite end of the gun and there is no fucking way it can hit anything.
Unless its not that and it is a lever rotating the chambers instead. Which could be done I guess.

Its like that fallout shotgun all over again.
>>1468
>A pepperbox revolver is still a revolver.
Unironically, no it isn't. Just because it has nut in its name does not mean a coconut is a nut.
A Pepperbox Revolver is classified as a Pepperbox, not a revolver.
A pepperbox, in terms of firearms classification, is any multi-barreled, independently activated firearm that lacks a feed system (eg: is single-shot per barrel); pepperboxes with modern ammo types exist- I've used a few, they're fun if very impractical. A revolver, again in terms of firearms classification, is specifically a single-barreled firearm with a rotating cylinder which acts as the chamber and is separate from the barrel.
Yes, it's pedantry; yes, it's autism, but you're in /k/. Home of firearms and weapons autists.

>if you made a Gatling gun with a series of chambers but only a single barrel, then
It just straight up wouldn't work; that goes against the very principles of operation that make a Gatling gun function.
And, yes, a Revolver Cannon is a revolver. It meets the technical definition of a revolver.

Technically speaking that does in fact have a barrel that is separate from the cylinder, so if that thing was functional it would be a revolver.

They're not, especially if whatever they're working on can lead to more engineering nightmares. Biggest reason why 99% of all surface naval craft aren't nuclear powered. Is it because they can go boom if hit in the wrong spot? No, it's because you have to remove the core at some point in the future and that would require a series of doors that lead right into the heart of the engine.

What's the goal? Save weight? To look autisticcool? I feel like it'll either ends up being a bulky ass crossbow or a fragile blade.
That said, maybe a double-headed axe could work as slingshot/crossbow. The rubber bands can be easily discarded for melee and easy to repair/replace if they do get damaged. axes can still feature a stabby spike attachment if you're so in the mood for that?

Interesting. See I would have gone the other direction and put a crossbow mechanism on a smallsword or rapier, like the reithepallasch but with a bow instead. This limits the size of the firable bolt if you use the normal crossbow layout but I am reminded that spring bows are a thing.

You could even take it a step further and make the blade the bolt and just have a quiver of blade/bolts to replace the one you just fired.

Ballistic knives do exist.

To each their own I guess. I've witnessed a compound bow explode once, lucky I wasn't the one holding it but made me real paranoid about avoiding any sort of damage to them. Heavy crossbows, the kind you wind up with a mechanical pulley, pack even more energy.
