Beware the trap of feeling like your value as a human is in what you "produce", particularly in what you "contribute" to a profoundly sick civilization of which nearly all modern people are worldwide.
Yes, of course a tree that bears no fruit gets chopped down and thrown into fire, and a tree with a bare branch lets it fall off to rot and die. And almost no one truly cares about who you are, but what you do for them.
But again, avoid either extreme. Of course it is good to create and share for others' benefits (but not their own benefit alone; no one can pour from an empty cup), we are pack predators and not meant to thrive alone, that's unnatural. Mutually beneficial, win-win or no deal. Don't extend olive branches to whose who won't meet you half-way and will only destroy your peace offerings and feel entitled and demand more. See below.
But to answer your question: if you have any kind of artistic urge to make music or paint or write, do it. And do it for your gratification, for your own eyes only so your eyes can see what your heart does. If others enjoy it too? Cool. If not? Fine. Don't ever be a maker for others, their opinions are fleeting and flighty, and no one really cares about anyone but them self -- to realize this is liberation.
Liberation from what? Anxiety and depression, mostly. Wouldn't it be great to feel less despair over the past (which doesn't exist except as a memory you're replaying in your head right here right now) and less anxious about the future (which is a fantasy, a fictional emotional construct you're generating in your head right here right now)? Of course no one can truly be free while still clinging to the idea of a separate self. But the more you realize, the closer this comprehension reaches your bones and your soul, the less depressed and less anxious one becomes.
