This site sucks now.
It is the worst posting.
Image board culture just is not comfy anymore. I remember back before Trump in early 2015 or even before Gamergate it was perfect. It was "quiet" but active and the posting wasn't mindless nonsense but it was not Reddit serious discussions either. Now Zoomers are in an eternal competition to prove who is the zoomiest and gayest of all, and that is after a decade of /trannypol/ and /pol/eddit burning everything down. Wretched generation.
well good thing you posted something interesting instead of just more bitching about how bad everything sucks

These are the types which take priority to be dealt with. The former was used pointedly instead of thrown around recklessly whether you want to accept that or not. Contrary to popular belief, I don't toss that term around lightly and I certainly don't ban people for merely disagreeing with me.

Millennials were more literate and less Zoomy. There also was not this weird pedo hysteria. Guys talked to each other instead of talking to memes. Back then image boards and the internet had a monoculture of its own, so everyone understood each other. Faggot shit like soyjak.party would never have been allowed to exist. It would have been identified as cancer and raided to death. It was typical a male dominated space. Normalfaggots were not yet inside. The internet didn't yet have a total grifting culture or was gatekept. Krautchan was the prime example. Unteralterbach would never be made today.

I think the biggest change, off the top of my head, is that people used to bring things to the internet. Its like, how many posts on 4chan is "what is this book?", whereas, in the past, an anon would read the book and give their opinion. Everything is a low quality question instead of a statement, which is what "lurk more" was designed to protect against. Its like people used to actually have real lives and interests and used the internet to help explore them and meet other enthusiasts. Now, its like there has been a fundamental change in how people use the internet, and how they communicate with each other, and it is simply lower quality.

Of course, the change from the "community-model" to the "audience-model" has had a massive effect as well.

Good point and I agree completely. Once the internet went from merely a medium to a replacement, that was bad.
I am mainly on Kohlchan now. That is what image boards used to feel like.
Replies: >>327290

I thought it died?

And yah, there is something about different mediums having their own devices. Phones for talking. Cameras for pictures. Books for reading. Jamming everything together, on the same medium, has been a disaster.

Another thing is the fact that threads stay up for months to years now when back in the day they wouldn't make it past twelve hours. Back then it was understood under the hehpill that content needed to be erased to be created. Copypasta existed because the only way to save something before it went 404 was by copying and pasting it, and when people were doing that, they were also editing the copied text or image on their own computers before posting the result back onto the site they grabbed it from. The best thing for an image board is to have everything exist very briefly before its gone forever. That had the additional effect of making us feel free to say whatever the fuck we wanted back then, because even if it's an epic fail, it didn't matter as the thread would 404 within the hour and it would be like nothing happened, and you can imagine how that impacted creativity and the willingness to experiment and be bold.

This is very true. I've been cruising around the altchans, and an observation that struck was that they are dead because of the weight of their own past. And its like it, as you say, that past has stopped the creativity and experimentation. Its like they have turned into a museum. And the best solution could think of is to simply delete everything. All threads, archives, everything. And simply start fresh and see what fills the void.

I am still convinced the anonymous image board format is the single best format for brainstorming, creating, and developing ideas. But it is meant to be a laboratory, not a museum. And I think this is effecting "chan culture". It just got burdened by its own past. I like 8chan/8kun, which are like museums to the legendary 8chan of old. Those sites are completely dead, and I think a large part is the old content. The best things they could do is delete everything, and simply start again.

I wonder if I could put it like this. "creativity and experimentation occur from filling a void and discovering a frontier. When creativity and experimentation cease, the void and frontier need to be artificially recreated". I think everyone understands that internet culture came from exploring a new frontier, but now it is settled and owned by big businesses. But the great thing about the internet, the digital world, is new frontiers can easily be created.

Skyscrapers in a north to south wind fall east or west because the wind going around the building creates eddies making a low pressure zone on the sides sucking the building to and fro.
Bollards reduce wind speed because the eddies push the wind.
Skyscrapers have a large downdraft that I like to compare to ground effect wind.
