I really hate that aesthetic. I was talking to someone who knows a bit about zoning regulations and he said that some places have rules that require that style because it's become desirable to "break up" the facade of larger buildings. I think it looks ridiculous.

Uniform facades make it more difficult to find your own place. More variation is needed, not less. Like in XIX century and older tenements, for example.
Have a link, I can't be arsed to post too many paintings here.

If someone is actually going to construct or maintain something uniquely, like townhouses then yeah the variety is appealing. But buildings like OP are constructed all at once and then they add different veneers to different parts of the building that serve no actual function. There was one of these buildings near me where the bricks on the outside just peeled off and caused no structural issues, because they had no function.

??? Or do you prefer to navigate by ad posters and number plates?

I've never been looking for a door on one of those buildings and been like "wow I sure wouldn't have been able to find this if it wasn't for the alternating facade colors would've been totally lost".

You have never seen a real old piece of architecture anywhere, right? Door colors, lol.

They had lots of totally superfluous ornaments that didn't repeat from one building to the next. It was natural to make your place distinctive looking. Which you apparently find a problem with.
