The traits of psychopathy get selected for because nothing is really stopping it from being advantageous for the individual within an easy yet predictable ecology , you could see it as nature's answer to lack of selection because a society of psychopaths would eat itself when times got hard, and might trigger the hard times because everyone would be corrupt, then when the critical mass of them is reached, the society topples, but the industrial revolution happened, and that now maintains the society despite the biology that evolved to kill it off a long time ago, the abundance and safety needed for this society to continue on.
