If they put it right back up it might just be pwned again instantly.
If they have to update PHP it could break hundreds of fucking things. They'd have to test a shitload of stuff.
Then they have to restore a backup database, maybe restore image/video files, reset all the passwords, cycle any API keys....all kinds of fucking shit.
I did say 8 hours but now that I think about it might be like 2-3 days.

I would guess that all the robotic spam isn't because of a site exploit but just the feds and also handful of dedicated psychos as is tradition

One of the staff had a password of "child", apparently. Also I don't think the user credentials were how it got hacked. Passwords were cracked from database hashes after the fact.

Reminder, that no matter how bad your day might seem, at least you're not a 4chan mod on the day of our lord 15/04/2025.

Good riddance, but on the other hand there were some generals that I used to check every week or so, I'm going to miss them.

The site has been sorely outdated for a long time. Isn't the API over ten years old? They basically stopped improving it one Moot sold it and Hiro took over. That's 10 years this September, iirc.

Thing is, who has the technical knowledge now to fix it? Hiro has been seen on the site in several years. I get the feeling the staff barely know how the site works at all.
