Started playing Yu-Gi-Oh! again. I heard it's shit nowadays, but that seems to be the case with just about everything.

How has Master Duel been doing? It seems like they've finally started banning all the floodgates.

>Started playing Yu-Gi-Oh! again.
Last I played was past the tipping point when they were well off into the XYZ master rule. The game went on a downward slope once they introduced synchro summons but it was still somewhat playable all the way up to XYZ, in my opinion. It got significantly bad and more retarded with links and adding 10 gorillon hand traps negating anything and everything at any time. I had my good share of fun with chain burn and trickstar burn before they were nerfed to death, I had an over 65% winrate with the latter on YGOpro and actually won 3 locals in a row with the former.

How is it nowadays? I haven't kept up at all since the links era. Is there a new master rule and some other new retarded summon type? All I recall is that they were going to introduce a new type of duel format with a different set of cards called like rush duel or quick duel or whatever, which was basically the physical version of that dumbed down phone game they had with 20 card decks.

Last I checked, the closest that Konami ever got to bringing Rush Duels overseas was through the phone game. Not like I blame them - nostalgiabaiting DMfags must be way more profitable.

3 of these and 1 crimson dragon should be all you really need to get back into it. Wish they would release structure decks more often.

I've just started playing it for a couple days now and have been brushing up on the basics. It's been many years since I've played YGO, so I have nothing to report as of yet.

>>235694
Like I said to the other poster, I'm just dipping my toes in after a long time, so I can't much report my opinion of the game at this point. However, I did play a tutorial game with the monster from your first image and I thought it was a novel and creative strategy. You give your opponent a powerful monster, but at the cost of 1000 LP per turn. It was interesting.

>>235697
K. They seem to have quite a few structure decks on DM from what I've seen.

Lava Golem is a classic griefer card. You can slap that shit on your opponent's board and stall him out until the burn kills him. Also just generally great removal for any deck that doesn't need a NS. Your opponent can't do shit about it because it doesn't start a chain.

>Is there a new master rule and some other new retarded summon type?
Yes, there's now a thing called Pendulum Summoning, which is done by placing Pendulum monsters in your spell zone and summoning from there. The link and pendulum shit is new to me, but I suppose I like how they use more of the field in different ways and makes you consider placement and resources more.

DM has seemed like it's been sufficiently generous with how much of its in-game currency you can earn without needing to buy it.

>>235892

Yeah......that's another reason why I strongly prefer YGO over MTG. It amazes me how people don't understand how poorly Blacks and fantasy settings go together. The aesthetics are completely contradictory and always look shoehorned. Only the bitch at the end kind looks naturalistic because of the African vibe.

I wouldn't worry about Pendulum Summoning. Konami nerfed that shit into the ground years ago, to the point where Pendulum decks are nigh unplayable at the moment. I think that the company largely wants you to forget that Pendulum Summoning exists as a concept, especially with the PR disaster that it caused.

Oh, what happened?

At the moment, I'm building an insect themed deck while I try to familiarize myself with the now massive library of cards that now exist.

So, you know how you need link monsters to pendulum summon from the extra deck? Originally this wasn't the case, and you were free to summon any pendulum monsters from there or your hand. Combined with how easy it is to get pendulum monsters in the extra deck in general, that means that you could go +5 and shotgun your best monsters on the field every single turn. The power creep was fucking insane. You can look up "full power PePe" (I swear that that's it's name) for more information.
Pendulum players also had two extra S/T zones just for pendulum monsters at the time, just for that extra fuck you.
One big criticism I remember about the pendulum monsters themselves is the text bloat. The game got a lot of shit at the time because any retard who stopped paying attention to the game after the DM anime ended could crawl out of the woodwork, point at Nirvana High Paladin or Endymion and go "LOL LONG TEXT GAME BAD!!!!!!!!"
If you ever see somebody throw around the word "yugiboomer", by the way, it refers to these people. They were embolded by this event and lingered around in discussion groups for the game for a few years afterward, constantly giving their unsolicited and uneducated opinion. Or just quoting that millennial ironic weeb faggot LittleKuriboh to an obnoxious degree.

I'm glad I missed that era then and I'll have to check out what you're talking about. Coincidentally, I just played and won my first online duel against a Pendulum deck.

I used an Insect/Traptrix hybrid deck and have built it to try and punish early turn aggression. Since everyone does a shitload of special summoning, Corrosive Scales was able to weaken all his Pendulum monsters and the more he spammed, the weaker they got. I also use Allomerus paired with Insect Equip cards to buff her attack and since she is immune to traps, she's was able to carry the offense. It was an attritional battle, but I eventually won. It was a lot of fun! Glad I'm back in the game.

And as to power creep, I think you just have to assemble your decks in anticipation for the early rush and then it tones down to normal game if you've survived the initial onslaught.

I'm rescinding this post:

And I've switched to playing Pokemon TCG Live. The YGO meta is disgusting and the game is just broken and unenjoyable.

I only just started playing Pokemon, but it hasn't been bad so far.

I went at it for a while, just playing against the meta. I made a Traptrix deck that could get it done sometimes, so long as I was able to go first, but when I didn't, there was literally nothing that could be done. I did have a few time limit victories, a testament to how braindead these meta retards are. It's kind of amazing how much they fucked up their game and how little of the massive library of cards is actually viable.
Replies: >>241109
>>241098
Well, if you specifically want to play Traptrix, it seems like it still gets good results for a rogue deck. You could always copy the last successful list from here and branch off of it depending on what ratios you're more comfortable with.
https://www.masterduelmeta.com/tier-list/deck-types/Traptrix
Or you could just play the Pokemon game and not look back. I wouldn't blame you. The most fun I had with YGO was about a decade ago.

Pokemon seems like an improvement, although it definitely has some flaws like any TCG. What I really want to play is Digimon, but the only digital option for that is a buggy fan-made passion project.

What sucks is that there's a card shop right around the corner from where I live, but they don't play Digimon, just Pokemon (which I don't want to spend money on for physical cards) and MTG. There's another card shop that's a little ways away, but of course, I always work on Friday and thus can't catch their Digimon night.....

Ugh.

I really hope Bamco understands the irony of a franchise being called DIGImon not having a digital platform. I want to play Digimon most of all because I've always really liked that series.

They were doing it to prove a point and to be funny.
>>246879
They were being funny but at the time there was no maximum card limit for Yugioh decks. It's full of cards that let you shuffle or make your opponent shuffle your deck.
