Reimu barely gets any visitors and she complains about the consequent lack of donations because she's greedy. She actually earns quite a lot of money from events like festivals but then usually loses it all rebuilding or overspending on a failed new event because she's shortsights. That's unrelated to her actual wealth though (and she still has her food/alcohol donations, including the majority from youkai that she's not counting when she complains about not getting donations).
Reimu doesn't have that much money but her landholding produces a ton of food, and she seems to run (and earns a cut from) every single large festival in the village that isn't one of the major religious ones. The particular 'joke' in >>3557 doesn't work at all though because the value of reimu's food consumption is higher than the net produce of the entire village since it's mostly impossible imports of luxury goods from her neverending youkai banquets.
Between all the food gifts and domestic production it's pretty clear that reimu never spends money on food and there isn't anyone selling food that's worth nearly as much as what actually gets eaten at the shrine.
