>Advice on building or upgrading
Post your build list or current specifications, including a monitor: https://pcpartpicker.com/
https://userbenchmark.com/ is ran by a huge Intel shill / AMD hater. We don't know his review autism, but now you know his, the numbers are accurate otherwise.

>Motherboards
Don't pair a K CPU with a B Mobo chipset, but pcpartpicker should auto-warn you about compatibility.
mATX / iTX is "cheaper" but are still ultimately gimmicks that fill a niche, and have less room for different parts / cabling (especially if you're a new builder). ATX is the preferable as the default.

>CPUs
Intel is limping along, AMD is the name of the game. AMD X3D CPU's aren't mandatory if you're looking for an area to save money, you can still get a most of the performance for a notably lower price with a non-X3D CPU.

>CPU coolers
Avoid liquid coolers with a single 120mm fan. Recent chinky AIO's have undercut the market while still being good quality, but the number of models has flooded the market - make sure you're getting the exact one that reviewed well, since many sound the same but have lower performance.

>RAM
It's not lookin' good. Bite the bullet and get scalped, or wait and hope the economy collapses (2 more weeks bro), flooding the market (at which point your paper money is worth nothing anyways).
RAM that hasn’t been made yet, bought with money that doesn’t exist, for data centers that haven’t been built yet, that can't be plugged in because national infrastructure can't handle the load, powered by fuel that hasn't been extracted yet, all to make unprofitable slop and jeetscams that your gramps will see on Faceberg and send you thinking is real, and paid for by the taxpayer at every step, because if it doesn't succeed, the economy hasn't grown in a decade, but is built on promises that all fall through at once, and all the moneyprinter printing hits us like the ground hit Wall Street Bankers during the crash.
SNAFU, the trillionaire CEO said it's not a bubble, so it's not a bubble.

>SSDs / HDDs
SSD for files / programs you're actively using, HDD for cheaper and higher-capacity long-term storage. Just a 1TB SSD is pretty standard, but SSD prices have also hit by the RAM squeeze. Avoid outdated Samsung 970 Evo Plus & cheapest poorfag NVMe SSDs.
https://ssd.borecraft.com/
https://serverpartdeals.com/

>GPUs
The prices are never going back down bro. Keep in mind what games you actually play and what resolution you're targeting, before overspending on an overkill GPU. The name of the game right now is VRAM, with many vidya releases starting to ask for (but not requiring) over 8GB for texture stability, even at 1080p.
NVidia aka NJewdia aka NJudea aka Team Green aka NGreedia aka Jensen Huang's Wild Ride aka Le Chateau de Merde aka nvidia still reigns supreme in terms of high-end performance and AI genning, but their products have definitely taken on a premium, even before scalping and supply shortages, even before their drivers getting worse, and even before them acting like they have a monopoly they haven't got. DLAA is alright, Fake Frames are cancer that should be avoided, Upscaling slowly isn't a meme but should still be avoided (it might also be taking steps backwards if they keep using AI code; Preset L is still the best). The 50 series finally have PhysX now, but is still less of a hardware leap over the 40 series due to NVidia's overreliance on AI.
As of writing AMD / Team Red finally got their shit together and released GPU's that aren't unstable, sub-optimal embarrassments - the 9070 & 9070XT are extremely efficient and competitive for gaming at their upper-midrange hardware grade and are much less scalped, but do keep in mind that if you're planning on using it for AIslop, AMD is still lagging behind heavily, and while FSR4 isn't a joke like FSR3, it's not DLAA.
Intel is a newcomer with the Arc line of GPU's, aiming at competing at the ultra-budget level.

Avoid: GPUs that were used for shitcoin mining, NVidia 40Ti-non-Super's and NVidia XX50's, NVIDIA GPUs in general if you're a Linuxfag.

>PSUs
Not worth buying a new PSU unless it's ATX 3.0 compliant. Avoid Untested / Bronze / Silver units like the tech-waste cancer they are. Aim for 50-75% PSU utilization at full system load.
https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ (archive: https://archive.is/jzJ2L )
https://hwbusters.com/best_picks/best-atxv3-pcie5-ready-psus-picks-hardware-busters/ (archive: https://archive.is/QrPHX)
>12VHPWR
DO NOT USE ANGLED 12VHPWR ADAPTERS
Fully seat a 12VHPWR connector in its socket, otherwise the connection can melt. Be careful with them on principle.

>Case (from $ to $$$)
mATX: Lian Li DAN A3, Gamdias Athena M4M
ATX: Lian Li Lancool 216 / 207, Fractal Torrent / Meshify 3
AVOID: 'Silent' cases, fanless cases, Corsair 4000D airflow, Montech AIR 903 Base (awful stock fans).

>A Smile
Good luck faggot

>Monitors
Avoid: panels with less than 120Hz refresh rates, without a single DisplayPort input and Variable Refresh Rate technology (G-Sync/FreeSync). Check professional reviews for any monitor before you buy at sites like TFTCentral, pcmonitors.info, Monitors Unboxed, or RTINGs.
The bottom tier monitor for any decent gaming build has a 144Hz+ 24" 1080p IPS panel, of which there are many on market for around $125 (some great ones go even as low as $100). Aim for a panel with low response times and perceived motion blur mode (Black Frame Insertion). Decent 2160p (4K) gaming monitors start at around $500.
TP has the best refresh rate of any panel, but shit image quality (weak contrast and colors). The cheapest if you're looking for a ultrabudget pick, but IPS has caught up and isn't much more for much better. Ultra-high ends have decent color accuracy, but are ultra-overkill.
VA has good contrast and blacks, but shit viewing angles, better for TV than gaming.
IPS has good colors, but cheaper ones suffer from IPS Glow, where the corners / edges are slightly illuminated at all times, making them vaguely lighter / non-perfect blacks. Currently the general standard.
OLED has good HDR (including infinite contrast / le inky blacks) and nearly instant pixel response times. However, potential burn-in if any area is kept static gives them a lifespan, and 27" and up is your only choice.
MicroLED has near-comparable quality to OLED, no burn-in and lasts much longer until it dims with time, but is still new to the market and are extremely overpriced (as in, 5 figures starting range, 6 figures high end - enough to buy a high-end OLED, let it burn in, then get a non-ripoff MicroLED years down the line once the tech is there).

tl;dr: They all suck in some way. IPS is the standard, OLED if you've got money to spare.

>OS
- Linux: You're dead kiddo
- Windows: Win10LTSC + debloating software / scripts to reclaim performance. Do not use Win11. Install Ventoy / Rufus on a flash drive, then transfer the iso files to it. Activate with https://github.com/abbodi1406/KMS_VL_ALL_AIO/releases
- Mac: ishygddt

If you search for the model number there's a very high chance you can get the spec sheet from Dell which should tell you the difference. It's probably inputs or a minor difference in referesh rate.

Is DLSS 5 explicitly better than existing graphical techniques just because it is cheaper or does it also have performance than traditional rendering techniques at generating highly realistic scenes? I saw some people calling it free path tracing.
Replies: >>317682 >>317701
>>317680
It's against the very point of having path tracing and ray tracing in the first place. It's faking the graphics for simply better nooumbars for people too stupid to understand while arguing for objectively worse performance and visuals than if there was no real time lighting.
>>317680
Much like RTRT itself, in order to realize the full potential of realtime slopgen it would require original game assets to be rebuilt specifically to accommodate it with special hinting, which it would then be required to be retrained on. As is, it's basically at the level of a glorified toonshader that can achieve cool effects for some games.
>>317669
idk about that model, but Dell monitors are generally pretty good.

China's CXMT beats Western chipmakers to announcement of LPDDR6 mass production — Xiaomi smartphones to debut industry’s first LPDDR6 chips
https://web.archive.org/web/20260831160800/https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/dram/chinas-cxmt-beats-western-chipmakers-to-announcement-of-lpddr6-mass-production-xiaomi-smartphones-to-debut-industrys-first-lpddr6-chips
>LPDDR6 arrives in less than a year after CXMT started mass-producing LPDDR5.
>ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has announced in a social media post that it has started mass production of LPDDR6 memory for a Xiaomi smartphone, Reuters reports. This is not entirely unexpected given the general LPDDR6 mass-production timeline, but the announcement is still surprising because two China-based companies are ahead of industry announcements. Yet, there are caveats.
>LPDDR6 is perhaps the most substantial upgrade to the GDDR-class memory ever. Firstly, it uses PAM3 signaling, which encodes 3 bits of information across two symbols, compared with the NRZ signaling used by LPDDR5/LPDDR5X. Second, the data transfer rate increases to 43.2 GT/s. Third, the reduced I/O width from 32 bits to 24 bits requires rework at both the hardware and software levels.
>Given the differences between LPDDR5 and LPDDR6, the most important factor here is not exactly LPDDR6 manufacturing, but a broader view.
>On the one hand, CXMT reached mass production of LPDDR6 roughly at the same time as the established DRAM leaders, meaning it is on par with them, if not ahead. This marks a substantial change from earlier generations, when Chinese DRAM technology generally lagged considerably behind Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron.
>On the other hand, reaching mass production does not necessarily mean that CXMT has achieved full technological or manufacturing parity with its larger rivals. The official announcement covers only one smartphone maker and one model, meaning CXMT's LPDD6 still has to pass validation for other handsets and other makers.
>If CXMT can mass-produce LPDDR6 for the whole market and manufacturers, we may well have seen the change of the industry leader. Yet, given one niche device, we certainly cannot say so for now.

When did the mechanical keyboard market become such a giant meme? I remember about a decade ago you could find full size keyboards about everywhere and now most of the options now are super tiny boards that feel like they came out of a kids meal unless you buy old boards or ones that cost just as much as a entry graphics card.

If you want something mainly for typing and are willing to pay "entry graphics card money" (as of 10 years ago when entry graphics cards still existed) there's always the repro IBM Model M from Unicomp. If you live in driving distance of a major metro area you could also try looking for the next retrofag swap meet since someone apparently found a storage unit full of used ones in the last few years and has been trickling them into the open market.

I've long accepted I'm far behind the bell curve. Whether the components on the mobo truly behave like the original console I will never know. There may be better vidyo getups like the Mister to blow my money on, there may have been emulators for these games for as long as 25 years, truth is I'm sold and buying one with a bunch of games like a good goy.
They've already confirmed Magical Drop 2 and 3, both of them sold as a single cartridge and added an easy dip switch for overclocking the console. I'm ready to settle down inside Plato's cave with one of these.

Same here, bro. The thing is they show every indication of actually trying to do the right thing (emphasis on trying, I bought in knowing it was going to be delayed since the only things Plaion's done to this point are jewish pederasty simulators and emulator-based shovelware) and when you look at what you get in the Ultimate box, $1k is a goddamn bargain. Seriously, any one of those games would be more than a grand CIB by itself. Well maybe not Magician Lord because Magician Lord is dookey but out of the initial set of 10 you've still got at least 7 bangers.
They've also confirmed Neo Turf Masters Big Tournament Golf will have the more than title screen hacks are on the table, and the CTO is making noises about publishing "new" games by which I assume they mean homebrew using their cheaper ASIC-based cartridge boards so you can actually release an AES game for less than $300. I swear if the last man standing in physical media is the fucking Neo Geo I'm going to lose my shit.

I don't think there's anywhere in the world that gold is worthless, even during wars and bad times. Not saying I'm expecting those conditions, just that even in the worst case it still manages to preserve some wealth while everything else around it is crumbling.
More likely, there will just be a whole lot of sustained high inflation that will wipe out most people's savings. We haven't yet seen the real food inflation, because there's a lag due to planting/harvest seasons. They attacked Iran 7 months ago, and the longer this drags out, the more it's going to hurt people financially. I don't know if any of you actually play with vintage hardware (not counting that angloid who masturbates to broken MP3 players) but preorders for this thing just opened. Usually I think of these "Cadillac" multicards (think Orpheus from the same europoor team as this) as being overpriced shit for hipsters but for the intended use case these actually make sense. On 90% of 386/486 boards you get nothing for free but the keyboard, so for a functional gaming machine you need ISA cards for at least:
>hard disk controller
>floppy controller
>video adapter
>sound card (+ game port) okay maybe you can live without a sound card if you have an ear rape fetish but devs moved to AdLib and SB pretty quickly
and you only have 5 or 6 slots, so you might only have one space left for something like network access or a serial/bus-mouse card. This thing covers half of those must-haves and a couple nice-to-haves in one ISA slot.

IBM wasn't a real player in the home micro scene outside of US in the 80's. Yeah those companies did make bad decisions, but they could have recovered if Windows 95 wasn't pushed so hard from above, thanks to ((( special connections ))). Apple also had big management problems in the 90's, but they survived, just barely.
The funny thing about Amiga is, when Commodore went bankrupt nearly every software company immediately blamed software pirates and jumped ship to Windows. Very few kept making Amiga releases, even though there was still a large number of users. So that of course made more people abandon Amiga to buy a Win95 PC (it was already installed by default on every PC). And for sure, there was never any piracy there...
Acorn Computers survived though, because after all they made ARM. And you can still run RISC OS today, if you have one of the supported boards, listed under "downloads" here: http://riscosopen.org/

It had a niggerishly jewed marketing campaign and released just at the right time for the Internet to become a widespread thing, but its adoption would've happened regardless of that.
Why, (You) may ask?

By 1995, Michaelsoft's competition in the desktop computing space was either dead (Commodore), withdrawn (Atari), in serious trouble (Apple), or Japanese and thus internationally irrelevant (and also ((( subverted ))) by M$ in advance).
They already more or less controlled the low-end generic office computing market by proxy in 1991, and with ISA cards rapidly eroding the architectural advantages the Amiga and friends had in bideo games and multimedia with the underlying entirely third-party based hardware evolving much faster and more efficiently sort of like an idealized form of muh globalism, though with its own brand of jewry of course than Commodore/Atari/Apple's proprietary chipsets capable as they were could achieve things were fucked from the outset.

The i386, the Adlib and later Soundblaster cards, VESA-compliant VGA adapters all running on a simple but "good enough" MS-DOS backbone, no one could keep up with that shit outside of designated meme hardware video game consoles and combined with the extremely rational decisions taken by company executives and managers led to
>Atari dumping its desktop computers in favor of a suicidal campaign against Nintendo, Sega and Sony in the early-mid 1990s with predictable results
>Commodore missing the plot on 2.5D and 3D-accelerated gayman just when Wolfenstein and then Doom were all the rage costing them the last bit of relevance in the last sector their kike execs continued to pretend didn't exist because Apple and its professional desktop publishing holdings were clearly the greater threat the CD32 never happened
>Motorola being NIGGERs and ceding ground in the CPU race to ((( Intel ))) because later models of the m68k encountered development difficulties and Motorola's major customers were taking a shit or migrating elsewhere so it clearly wasn't worth the shekels to continue
>leading to Sharp discontinuing the superior Nipponese X68000 with it's aesthetic dual-tower cases folded 1000 times
>and Apple migrating to the PowerPC ISA at the worst possible fucking moment

When Windumb Niggy5 hit the market the same year Chrono Nigger released, there was simply no one left to contest it.
Normalniggers were running Windows 3.1 or DOS in the office, DOS at home to play Doom II, the Amiga was discontinued.
Windows 95 was slow as shit on period hardware but it had them fancy graphics suitable for the untapped mentally challenged African-American populace in 1990s computing terms, those negroes would be banana wizards to modern soyphone-conditioned porchmonkeys, the plug-and-play driver model which was actually a genuine improvement over the driver installation shittery of DOS and fairly idiot-proof for the time, and then the Internet and Microshaft's quick and efficient capitalization with Internet Explorer being a built-in feature of later Win95 releases sealed the deal.

The Japanese were perhaps the gayest party in this whole equation, with NEC's PC-98 running Intel CPUs from the start with a custom version of DOS adjusted for superior Nipponese demographics co-developed by Microsoft, so when Windows 95 was on the horizon Microsoft just made a version that ran on NEC's proprietary x86-based not-PCs and it was all ogre.
Nip Win95 for PC-98 had a top-tier localization both in a linguistic and practical sense, an industry leading IME, and most importantly full compatibility with both ((( International ))) Windows/DOS software but also domestic Nipponese PC-98 software, making the PC-98 as a platform superfluously obsolete in an instant and relegating it to patriotic consumers of obscure independently developed shooting games featuring poorly drawn lolis sold at オタク会議。

IBM was a nonfactor in the desktop computing space the moment they failed to stop Phoenix from selling their reverse engineered BIOS to clone board manufacturers.

I think this is US-centric. Because in the UK, Amstrad was selling loads of PCW business computers at a fraction of the price of PCs. They were very successful up until the very final model (PCW16) that came out in 1995.

> and with ISA cards rapidly eroding the architectural advantages the Amiga and friends had in bideo games and multimedia
That didn't happen very quickly though, and those cards added an extra cost to an already expensive PC. I was looking to buy a new computer in the early 90's and back then Amiga was still top dog. On the PC side, they had shit deals like 16 MHz 386SX with 2 MB RAM, barebones VGA, and 8-bit SoundBlaster, and a very small HD that were over twice the cost of entry-level Amiga. So I bought an Amiga 500, in 1992 not long before they stopped making them (replaced with A600). And I never felt like it was the wrong choice. I didn't care if technically VGA can display 256 colors and Amiga ECS can only do 64. The Sega Genesis also didn't do VGA and had worse sound, but they still made loads of great games for it.
For me, it wasn't obvious that the PC was getting better until Doom.

> The i386, the Adlib and later Soundblaster cards, VESA-compliant VGA adapters all running on a simple but "good enough" MS-DOS backbone, no one could keep up with that shit outside of designated meme hardware video game consoles
The Amiga was originally meant to be a game console, only later in the design they changed their minds and made it into a computer. So that's why it was a multimedia powerhouse. That's why a 7 MHz 68000 can run games like Hybris, Chaos Engine, Lionheart. Arcadia Software even made coin-op machines with Amiga hardware. Then they (or some other company) did it again later with the AGA chipset Amiga hardware.

Bullshit, post your computer picture.

On mainland Europe, itself one of the Amiga's strongest markets, DOS-based PC compatibles and Amigas coexisted for a time but the Amiga diminished quickly after 1992 for state-of-the-art autism, even if software support was very strong all the way until the end.

Commodore should've canned their focus on the premium workstation market and just fought the PC compatible market directly with their own m68k-based equivalent spec using the A500 as a baseline but allowing licensed third-party board manufacturers to put in ISA slots, CPU, RAM sockets and so on as needed while collecting royalties and continuing to maintain and develop the Amiga's software ecosystem.
As good as their proprietary chipsets were, being unable to chain the Paula to a GUS while at the same time having Agnus' blitter working in tandem with a VESA-compliant VGA adapter for the ultimate open-loop watercooled Giana Sisters III: Revenge of the Plumbers experience was a wasted opportunity.

Wonder if niggerpill has a literally who twitter screencap ready for this particular line of discussion.

I've been using a 27 1080p VA monitor for several years and this monitor is so much better holy shit. Well except for movies but ips sucks for watching movies

VA sucks if you play anything with dark scenes or if you can't keep your head completely plumb with the panel's centerline. In other words it sucks for everything other than budget VR headsets. IPS already solved most of its problems and got the rest down to "good enough" ages ago, now we're just waiting for microLED or dual-cell tech to reach the realm of sanity, or maybe some towelhead looking to launder his daddy's money will try FED again.

But that is exactly what VA excels at over IPS...

It is a negative to have better contrast in horror games if you are a wimp or cannot see anything.

They did actually make better sound and video Zorro bus cards, so you could use those if you had an A2000, A3000, A4000. Actually you could even buy a kit to put the guts of your A500, A600, A1200 into a case with backplane that gave you multiple Zorro slots instead of just the one (plus detachable keyboard, bigger power supply, drive bays, etc.) So you could expand any Amiga to do just about anything, including run Video Toaster or these:

So that was really fantastic for people with lotsa money. But most euros didn't have as much to spend as burgers, and especially not eastern euros. So like in that comic I posted, people were happy to have A1200 for 1/3 the price of PC. And unlike PC you didn't need a monitor, TV was good enough for games, and even text in 60 columns mode. It was best option unless you ONLY wanted to play games, and then maybe a console made more sense. A1200 was still a solid computer even in 1995, enough for most tasks a home user could ask a computer to do, and AmigaOS 3.1 was better than Windows 95 except maybe for not having TCP/IP built-in. But actually in 1995, most access was still plain dialup to a Unix shell, those were still much more common than SLIP/PPP.
Amiga might have survived longer if it didn't keep getting bounced around between companies that just sat on it (after Commodore went bankrupt). That just went on for too long, and so everyone except the most die-hard Amiga fans stopped caring. I'm not even sure why anyone wants to buy the old models now, since they don't do anything with them. Go on Amiga forum, and you'll see most of them just use emulator on their Windows machine.

If dark details keep getting crushed to black you have less contrast.
