I don't think you really need to convince anyone. But if you know what you're talking about then you never know who might get interested in something much more mild that you might have to say, especially over the holidays, for instance. And you never know who might some day later want to keep picking your brain about something or dive deeper in, or who might also know more than he talks about because he feels isolated or like people will think he's crazy.
Case in point I was picking up a spare debit account at the bank the other month and what was supposed to be small talk about what I do for a living or whatever spiraled pretty quick into a discussion about transhumanism, AI, and geopolitics. No convincing necessary.
