The Spanish were trying their damnedest to launch a comprehensive, un-fucking, Evropa-saving crusade through the Mideast, but the Brits kept sperging out, antagonizing Spain, funding and harboring ((( Dutch rebels ))), and trying to seize northern Europe and the Americas; Philip literally couldn't afford to leave such a naked threat to his back. Spain had to divert their Arab-specializibg land/sea task force to try and pacify the uppity faggots and ended up losing an invasion they never should have had to make. Afterwards, the only real move they had was to consolidate as much resource from the New World as they could and you know the rest.
