I'm reminded of that time in primary school (religious) when suddenly one Monday we had a new home room teacher with no explanation given. The class was shocked and confused as to why Miss Original Teacher was replaced with Mrs. New Teacher on such short notice, but we eventually stopped asking questions and took it in stride. Some time later, I overheard parents gossiping that Miss Original Teacher had gotten knocked up outside of wedlock and had tried to keep it a secret. So, at least she wasn't forced to resign for just putting on a few extra pounds.

Corporate whores don't want you to know to avoid potential panic as everyone may yet run off if they don't agree with why the other peer is gone. If you see, not just panic, but many reasons are there why someone would copy the person having left even if they were fired if they are also guilty of it. If everyone leaves they lose profit. They get rid of the weakest link and you might become the next link.

Pssshhhh privacy! On what planet?  The only reason Dr. patient confedentiality exists is due to the fact that if everyone knows they might die soon then you get, that's right, fired, replaced. Nothing more.
