This thread is mostly intended to be used as an aggregate source for video game deals, but feel free to post anything else related to buyfagging. Anything from bitching about prices, to complaining about shilling, and blogging about your own recent purchases are welcome.

>I want to be a retarded goy, where do I buy games?
As you probably know, for PC the most common place is Steam. You can get better deals at other places, and I'll list a few below. The major consoles each have their own digital storefronts that you can look up.
https://www.gog.com/ ~ "DRM-free" except when it's not which includes most titles with online multiplayer.
https://www.humblebundle.com/ ~ Formerly the best place to get bundle deals, now a shell of its former self.
https://www.gamersgate.com/ ~ Steam competitor that never took off.
https://www.greenmangaming.com/ ~ See above.
>What if I want physical hidden gems?
Check your local game/thrift stores if they have any first, you may be surprised at they offer. Beyond that you can check a few other places. Gamestop, Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy are all valid options if you're willing to pay MSRP. Just make sure the game actually comes on the disk before purchase. There's also Limited Run Games and their clones, which print physical releases of select digital only titles. Only issue with them is that the runs are a little too limited. You'll probably have to buy the games you want off scalpers if you aren't pre-ordering the instant sales open.
Do your research.

>Okay but what if I actually want to save money faggot?
Don't buy games ;^) Or you could be like me and look a little deeper than the above for discounts.
<Digital
https://steamdb.info/sales/ ~ Allows you to easily filter to the titles with the highest discounts on Steam, and look at past sales history so you can predict when the next one will be.
https://g2a.com ~ Key seller marketplace that occasionally has good discounts for some games, and above MSRP for others. Go through PayPal or an alternative if you don't want the chinks to have your cc.
https://cheapdigitaldownload.com/ ~ Compares most key selling websites to try to find you the best discount. I believe they take a small cut for the promotion.
https://www.dekudeals.com/ ~ It's like steamdb but for Switch games instead.
https://cheappunk.com/ ~ Some guy I found that sells cheap Steam keys for old MMOs.
It's also worth acknowledging that Epic Games Store gives out games weekly. Playstation does so monthly too but only if you have a subscription.
<Physical
Big box stores randomly pop up with discounts during holidays and when they overstock, keep an eye out.
https://www.ebay.com ~ Has everything, not necessarily at the best price.
https://www.lukiegames.com ~ Decent prices for most things except really popular items. Good shipping policy.
https://www.dkoldies.com ~ Good selection. Prices vary depending on which condition you want.
Craigslist or your local online marketplace equivalent might be a decent place to look too.
Garage sales are kind of dead, depending on your area. RIP in peace.

The thread you linked is about physical collections and people who collect as a hobby, this one is about general vidya buying whether digital or physical. No need to remove it.

I mostly do this but there are sometimes cases where digital is the only option for things like online multiplayer. I see it as paying for the community instead of the game. I noticed that Skyrim is easier to mod if you have a Steam copy too thanks to mod faggot DRM.

>I noticed that Skyrim is easier to mod if you have a Steam copy too thanks to mod faggot DRM.
I'm sorry anon, but I just can't believe this is true. The only "DRM" I've seen mods use is not working with a game unless it's up to date, and I've never seen even that with Skyrim modding. What I have seen are modders saying that they won't provide support to pirates and even straight up false claims that a mod or modding tool won't work with a pirated game.
Original Skyrim probably doesn't even get updates. I think SSE may get updated for creation club content but I'm not certain since I haven't played it in awhile. Even if it did, Skyrim is really popular and a crack would probably be available within 24 hours, if even that long. The obvious exception would be if they suddenly implemented some new DRM/launcher like Cockstar did.
Speaking of that, there was also a mod framework for GTA V that I tried to use a few years ago and because the piracy stagnated due to the new DRM, I couldn't use it. I couldn't find any downloads for older versions anywhere and the modders didn't provide links to older versions for obvious reasons because of their anti-piracy intent.

>The only "DRM" I've seen mods use is not working with a game unless it's up to date
The mod that makes NIER A TOMATO playable on PC has DRM that specifically stops it from working on the cracked version. Someone had to actually make a crack for the mod
Modders who go out of their way to not support cracked versions deserve a special place in hell.

I remember that shit. The "person" that made the mod is a notorious denuvo cock sucker that threw a tantrum when SE took denuvo out Automata crying about how he won't update his now completely unneeded mod unless they put denuvo back into the game.

>>82367
My uneducated guess is that they're afraid that piracy will someday kill video gaming somehow. Like, they're kept up at night worrying that their favorite studios will all one day post "sorry, piracy killed us" on twitter and then vanish, and then they won't get any more games. And I guess these people have to also think that anti-piracy software actually stops piracy, too. Or they just feel really strongly that piracy is bad for some reason. I don't know.
>>82370
specifically I meant the part how he's doing some kind of gay boycott because they removed denuvo from the game.

Is he taking it as a "pirates win" kind of thing? who gives a shit if they decided themselves to take it out? what a homo

Some programmers, and modders, are just autistic. However, I think modders likely to be more autistic. Remember when Trump won, and that guy making the Skyrim Civil War Overhaul mod having a mental breakdown and saying he never wanted to mod again? How about the guy that made Dark Souls Prepare To Die Edition more playable? In his readme for that game, he explicitly states something along the lines of, "Don't make fun of Japanese PC ports," when Japanese ports are more likely to be outright bad or unplayable.

I might be a little dense, but don't see what those two things have to do with one another, unless he thinks that by saying that he's denying them ammo for a legal case against him. What I mean is that that for some reason he thinks that taking that stand would demonstrate to a court that he morally opposes the unlawful access of computer systems or something. I guess I can believe that his legal advisor(s) might have told him to not even give the appearance of etc. etc.
>>82373
As I said, I don't really know. Like >>82377 said, modders in particular tend to be autistic. I could believe that the guy just hates piracy for some kind of ethical reason and thinks SE betrayed his ideals by removing denuvo, or some crazy shit like that. People who are driven by a creative urge but lack the wherewithal or drive or talent (whatever it is) to make original works--I think a lot of modders could be described this way--just seem to also have a tendency to be really dysfunctional in some ways. There may be no real correlation there, no.

For any Steam frens out there. THQ is giving away Titan Quest Anniversary Edition away for free until 9/23. If you're interested Diablo Clones, I hear it's a pretty fun game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/475150/Titan_Quest_Anniversary_Edition/

>People who are driven by a creative urge but lack the wherewithal or drive or talent (whatever it is) to make original works--I think a lot of modders could be described this way--just seem to also have a tendency to be really dysfunctional in some ways.
Creators that make fan games also tend to be pretty autistic. Pokemon is a great example of this. No matter how many times Nintendo unleashes the yakuza on on things like Pokemon Uranium, these people keep on making them. Furthermore, compare how many Pokemon clones exist, not accounting for the Chinese garbage you can find on mobile phone stores, to Pokemon rom hacks. These fan game devs/modders could download Unity or Godot, and have access to way more powerful toolsets, such as being able to program more free form movement, but they choose not to.

It's a little like those people who use photoshopped video game character creator screenshots for their tabletop RPG characters. It's a very particular combination of creative drive and either lack of talent or laziness or just the ability to go from idea-in-head to lines-on-paper (so to speak) that prevents those people from being able to execute something that's entirely their own vision--or even something that's 90% someone else's vision but that they've built on their own. It's apparently extremely common to varying degrees--look at how many fan fiction authors there are, or were. Of course, the difference in skillset involved in making a pokemon rom hack versus a totally new pokemon-like game is not quite the same as the difference between writing fan fiction and original fiction, I admit. The autist in me senses that there's a classification to be made here, but I can't elucidate it.

Can't speak for that other anon but just set a price-range and pick whatever pair of headphones fit that cost and you'll be fine, they go up to very high end if you want to throw that much cash at it but you don't have to. Headset instead if you don't have a standalone mic but it's better value to get one. Only thing to watch for is that their budget sets are often on-ear instead of over-ear and personally I find those painful to wear. There's also open-backed vs closed-backed to consider.

The only time I see anons here talking about it is to talk shit about a game because it has similar mechanics to Borderlands or bad writing like Borderlands. Gameplay got real old quickly when you realize that you get new guns to do the same damage to new enemies and so you never really feel to be improving or getting stronger.
