Do you have a favorite gun in a
game?
Also Guns Thread.
Any guns in this thread are welcome, including non-realistic guns.
For me, i just love pistols.
>M1911A1
I completely ignored every other guns in MGS3 and just went with the M1911A1. Already the best gun in the game.
>Mauser C96
Even though RDR2 was a western game, The Mauser was my favorite.
This pistol is truly a work of art.
>USP Match
Never get tired of this. I love using pistols in any FPS games.

The USP in HL2 sounds like a wet fart, it's pretty bad. The gunplay in that game is lackluster in general.
Replies: >>81588
a lot of the guns in Halo were fun to use. the brute shot was a good grenade launcher, and this is a real spicy opinion but the fuel rod cannon in Halo 4 with the near-instant firing speed was also fun to use
>>81581
HL2 in general is good, but nothing to write home about. I can sort of understand why people loved it when it came out but today it's not too special. i can beat the game really easily and the only really hard part is the beach and courtyard in Nova Prospekt because there's nowhere to really take cover, nor are the enemies close enough to each other to just sprint at them and fill them with lead or a grenade.

I enjoy the odd guns that actually existed in some but never faced mass production, or at least not commonly seen in history. Usually, due to how they're designed, it seems like something /k/ would make while high on gunpowder, but regardless, they did work.
Example one was used by Skelter Helter in No More Heroes 2. The symbolism might be related to the number of bullets it can hold. Specifically, 12 chambers with 6 bullets each, meaning he has 6 in a chamber ready to fire and 66 in reserve, or 666. However, as someone with no experience with firearms in any realistic setting, I'd imagine the gun weighs a lot and being unable to holster a handgun seems to make it pointless.
Example 2 is my favorite gun in Hunt: Showdown. A revolver that holds 17 bullets via a chain-fed mechanism. Even though it must weigh a decent amount, it can be dual-wielded and be reloaded at the same time. Unfortunately, reloading takes a lot of time due to not having any sort of loading cylinder due to the shape, and he fact Hunt: Showdown has nothing like that to begin with.
The final game piqued my interest the most when I discovered it. A 15 round Mosin Nagant converted from bolt-action to full auto. It apparently exists in real life, though I have not extensively researched into it. As someone not knowledgeable on firearms, I wonder how dangerous a firearm would be when converted in such a way?

Definitely agree. There are a few games that get the revolver/magnum right, but more often than not, I see games treat it as either a "relic" addition from the old west (only acceptable if the game takes place in said time period), or just a slightly stronger variant of a standard pistol with a longer reload time. Its either due to balancing concerns, or that the devs never seen/experienced shooting a modern revolver or magnum (starting to look more like the latter due to modern devs not even knowing how to properly design and model guns for their games).

The machine gun is based on Canadian Huot Automatic Rifle. I don't know why the devs decided to pretend it's a mosin.
>As someone not knowledgeable on firearms, I wonder how dangerous a firearm would be when converted in such a way?
Bolt-action conversions into full or semi-auto were not uncommon, the good examples are Rieder or Charlton LMG. It wasn't a question of safety, but of cost, reliability and military doctrine. Lee-Enfield was already one of the most rapid-firing bolt-action rifles out there, and it wasn't seen as cost-effective to replace it.

How about Daikatana's Shotcycler? If that doesn't count, then there were surely some in Planetside or Planetside 2, although I didn't play NC much. Then the Heavy's gun in TFC used shotshells (and batteries) for ammo, although it didn't actually shoot shot so I suppose that doesn't count either.

That's what I had in mind, though it still looks just like an ordinary minigun. I was also thinking of Shadow Warrior's Riot Gun, but it needs to reload.
Replies: >>82042
>>82034
Shadow Warrior's shotgun is a quad barreled beast that can autocycle shells like a gatling gun although it doesn't shoot as fast as the mechanism seems to be able to probably due to gameplay reasons and the altfire reload is a bit clunky.
Any aircraft mounted Gun* as opposed to a cannon or missile technically qualifies if its caliber is higher than .70 or .75.
Planetside 1 and 2 does have the NC Jackhammer. It's technically a triple barreled rotating action shotgun with a rate of fire of exactly as fast as a pump action because "balance" but the mechanism SHOULD be able to be as fast as an 800-900 RPM LMG otherwise.

Heavy's minigun in TF2, despite looking like a standard minimi and loading solid cartgrides instead of slugs, in pure gameplay actually fully fuctions like a shotgun that can shoot shells every quarter of a milisecond and if spread is turned off you can see it doesn't sequentially shoot one bullet at a time per cycle but actually about 6 of them in a fan per cycle and per ammo cost.

I've been playing a lot of gunspy lately. It's weird to not rely on the knife but it's really fun. I just run around with the big kill picking off people who are low if I use the invis watch. Somehow the devs hit the perfect amount of power for that thing. It always suprises people how much damage it does. People still really hate spies though even if you're fighting them head on. Prepare for everyone to taunt when you die and dedicate their entire team to countering you like you're a knife spy (it wont work lol).

Still a huge lack of good revolver games. Last one I remember was Eye, and that was only because the revolver was so stupidly OP it could 2 shot helicopters that would explode in a blaze of glory.

Gookclick is one specific pair of RTS games and besides RTS there's other genres with axis campaigns and not limited to just German either. Genres which attract players who don't want to think much beyond instant action gameplay will always be the ones where devs are worried about a knee-jerk reaction from their playerbase meanwhile subsim autists got triggered beyond belief when Silent Hunter went for the boring burger pacific setting over the Atlantic wolfpacks.
>only and I mean ONLY FPS games count when playing as the axis, and there isnt a single german campaign game out there
If you want to get technical there are a few mods out there, and unless my memory is wrong Battlefield 1942 had a German campaign though both campaigns in that were just a series of maps with bots and in chronological order. There's also a brief set of coop German missions in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood.

If you're relagated to a sniping role it's assumed you won't need a lot of rounds, besides, irl most of the anti personnel squad designated marksman job, which is different from le epic lone wolf american sniper 1 shot one kill 360 noscope smoke weed everyday, is performed by guys with scoped ARs with 20 or 30 round mags depending on the caliber. I think vidya uses low cap mags because of a mix of balance and ignorance.
>>82815
>I never understood why sniper rifle designers decided to use small magazines
If it's going to be used in the role of a sniper you shouldn't need a large number of shots or rapid followup shots which is why both magazine capacity and self-loading capability are often sacrificed for benefits elsewhere (total weight, weight distribution, accuracy benefits and so on). DMRs are a different issue.
>I'm talking real life, we know a sniper will probably be firing it from a prone position, so why skim on a magazine space?
Firing prone is actually a good reason to go with a smaller magazine not a larger one, the size of AK mags for example requires an odd doctrine for firing prone where you fire it sideways. Other solutions in the past have been side mags (impractical for a sniper due to weight distribution) or feeding from the top (complicates sighting arrangements which is solvable for say an LMG but trickier for a sniper).

To answer a different question than the one you asked, the second most fun I ever had with an electrically-themed gun in a video game was the taser from Syphon Filter. It had enough range to hit a guy who was standing on top of a building, yeah, but I didn't use it for that. I used it because I was younger, video games were simpler, and being able to tase a guy until he caught fire was genuinely amusing a few times, and very few guns like that have been genuinely amusing, which is a friend of fun if not actually fun. The most fun was Mr. Thunderbolt, because being able to instantly and unpredictably gib guys who were in (or out of!) the water at the cost of one suicide from within the water makes me smile even to this day.

This is true of the fuckton of games made in idtech3 as well. CoD, for instance, was build on idtech3 originally and early games suffer seriously from even moderetly high latency (~120+ ms). Technically it still to this day runs on a heavily modified version of idtech3 but it's had better lag compensation tech built in over time.

>>82955
There's been a trend since trannyfield one to lazily include prototype/obscure firearms without either understanding them or thinking if they fit the setting that the devs are going for. As it was set in WW1 Dice quickly realised most of the obvious guns would be bolt actions or handguns and that would get boring so they basically grabbed a bunch of history and firearms youtubers (e.g. Ian from Forgotten Weapons), flew them out to Sweden/possibly paid them for a little bit of consulting and got them to suggest a ton of prototypes to completely fuck the idea of WW1 weaponry. It was a genius move since not only did they get that info for cheap but the channels then gave them free marketing. Now a bunch of games are copying that like for example the latest CoD having some obscure german 30s shotgun (~100 made total) showing up in its trailers/

2: The bubba kitbashing is just disgusting.

The idTech family tree is so large I've never even seen one that includes far off descendants such as the current IW engine or the Titanfall engine.

It's not, but consoleniggers can't aim for shit.

The most annoying thing about the memesweeper in games is that they reload it smoothly. Have you seen how much of a piece of shit the magazine is in this thing?

Yes, it's literally a giant double action revolver cylinder, complete with loading gate and ejector rod, that requires an assist spring because the cylinder is so massive. And you have to wind it up like a clock. Whoever came up with that thing is some kind of madman.
Any games out there that have realistic damage where you die in 1-2 hits from any bullets? machine pistols seem so weak despite normal pistols usually doing more damage and PDWs being shit too

Imagine being so weak you instantly explode if your feet gets grazed twice.

I've been shot a dozen times in Red Orchestra and survived because the guy couldn't hit shit, but normally you die in 1 shot if it's a rifle round that hits center mass. Coincidentally RO1 is a good game but barely anyone still plays it.

I remember STALKER being like this but I can't remember if it was with or without mods. Without mods the guns have really absurd spread making everyone feel bullet spongy when in reality it's just your peashooter shooting sideways. They only start getting really accurate when everyone gets power armor, but IIRC the guns hit so hard the power armor only gives you an extra few hits before going down.

With mods you're super OP because you can usually blast the AI before they can even react.

I played it without mods recently and I'm fairly sure that there is a good amount of sponginess on the enemies.

It's not uncommon for people to remain mobile after a surprisingly large number of pistol rounds. It's all about shot placement if you're using smaller calibres and drugs/adrenaline have an effect too.

RO:2 split the community between oldfags who wouldn't accept its dumbed down elements and oldfags who were willing to handle that for a larger playerbase.

In vanilla SoC at least spread is affected not only by stance but by the condition of the gun. It's why I recommend keeping crosshairs on until garbage at least as it widens to show you potential accuracy.

The sponginess is to do with a weird multiplier applied to rapid followup shots to nerf full auto.

I went back and played RO2 a couple years ago, after despising it at launch, and enjoyed it. The problem is that the faggot devs never added the features in the first game, namely vehicles and the associated maps. So it got old after a short while of the same infantry skirmishes, usually on the same few maps.

The classic mode they added after launch helped but it was also fucked when it was first put in I think intentionally since they didn't like the veteran players who were complaining as much as the new players which drove away even more OSTfags.

Use a L4D2 mod that replaces the spaz with this, and my god is it satisfying.

I love my gernade launchers in vidya, just enjoy watching things go boom with gore and red mists. Killing Floor's gernade launchers are some of my favorite. M320 is possibly my favorite one in particular, bit few games have it and I've shot it myself. Portal and compact, with a satisfying THONK noise when shot. I also wish more games had over under double barrel shotguns. Speaking of...

Playing STALKER Anomaly and Clear Sky, there is such a massive difference in feel beyond the model. Anomaly's TOZ kicks absolute ass, and is easily my favorite shotty to roll with (although I am using the SPAS, better mag compacity wins but doesn't feel as good. Still great.) Feels and acts like how a shotgun should. Meanwhile, Clear Sky's is absolute dog shit. Shit range and spread where anything beyond five feet shrugs it off, like getting hit with cotton. I fucking HATE when games does this with shotguns. FEAR gets a honorable mention with absolute God-tier shottys.

fuck reddit orchestra 2, guns control like ass, most people are using semi auto/full automatics, people getting shot from an obscure place on the map but not killing the guy so he racks up kills, retarded levelling system that makes good players better and keeps noobs down.
Rising storm 1 was okay, blasting people with the type100 is cool and so is making the enemy team ragequit when using the flamethrower

The most fun I had with Rising Storm 2 was playing Talvisota which is mostly Mosin vs Mosin.

RO2's only problems were the dogshit mod support and trash corridor vanilla maps. The gameplay loop itself was very tight.

That shouldn't be happening in vanilla CS, buckshot usually kills out to a decent range on anyone unarmoured.

Though there should have been at most one of those per team for the nip side and even that would have been unrealistically large. Japan made a pathetically small number of smgs during the entire war, maybe ~10,000 if you count foreign purchases and captured weapons.

I was a little off, probably 45-50,000ish all told with a little over half of that total domestically made and the rest purchased from Germany and Italy. How many of the later production guns actually got out of mainland Japan is also up for debate since they didn't really start manufacturing them in bulk until late 1942/early 1943. 50,000 is still dick all though, that's orders of magnitude less than fucking Italy.

I modded my stalker to slightly bump the damage of all the guns but it created the side-effect that the shotguns could 1-shot even at sniper range if you aimed for center of mass perfectly. It made the TOZ the most fun shotgun I've had in any game. It was pretty hard to because the enemies also had the OP shotguns.

For some reason I love MW2's AK-47. I don't know why, but it's just awesome. Every game has an AK, but this one is somehow unique.
Fuck I want to play some mw2 now.
