>Team SamSho to be released the 4th of October in KOF XV
>Street Fighter 6 announcements keep coming - from announcers, to battle hub, to 3d platformer thing
>BlazBlue ded
>Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2 to receive rollback late October
>Melty Blood is good
>Persona 4 Arena Ultimax rollback now exists
>DragonBall FighterZ still getting patches
>More stuff

With E3 come and gone and the news no longer being horded by developers, what are your thoughts on the next couple years of the genre?

It seems the anime fighters are going well for themselves with GG, and especially MB, as of late. Street Fighter is just packing more and more shit into this new game of theirs, and it looks like it might not be total shit like 5 was. King of Fighters is just chugging along doing its thing, I've read people say the matchmaking has gotten better for them since the last update, and others that say the opposite. Moron Kombat is garbage. FighterZ is still getting played. Tekken 8 has a small amount of footage out.

How's your local scene?
Got any new games you're playing or characters you're maining?
Would you like to write a dissertation about how angry you are about games or players?
What controller(s) are you using?

I went to a Tekken "tournament" right before the pandemic in a convention. I lost in quarters, I thought it was double elimination but it was only double elimination for people who lost right at the start. Bitched about it with some dude, then left because I'm autistic. I doubt there's a "scene" in here beyond gathering the dozen-ish autists for a yearly event that's not even related to fighting games. Which is a shame, I am much better now than I used to be.

In other news, if they nerf Zafina, Julia, Feng and Akuma the game might finally die and move on to 8 on a really decent balance state.

>How's your local scene?
The local university club (pic related) restarted his summer but the mask mandate was still in effect so I didn't attend. The mandate was lifted before the start of the fall semester so I'm attending now. It's pretty good aside from the usual university and gen Z faggotry. The obese faggot and BBTAG tranny are still around, sadly. One guy might be a tranny because he has an odd name, but he doesn't look like a parody of femininity so he might just have an odd name.

We ran a Footsies (the game) tournament last week. It's a neat little game with a single attack button that is meant to focus solely on the aspect of whiff punishing and hit confirming. I went 2-2 without knowing most of the mechanics and having never played it before. A couple of my opponents were really intense about it, leaning forward and breathing hard, which I found kind of offputting. It also gave the Street Fighter player an excuse to jerk off about how "if you game doesn't have Ryu in it, then you're not playing fundamentals" which was irksome but not unexpected. His breath was fucking atrocious for the second week in a row; I could smell it from halfway across the room.

Aside from the tournament, most of the stations were running Strive in the first meeting but Xrd and +R were more popular at the second meeting. There were a few people playing SF, Tekken, UNI, and BB. It seems like we have a decent variety of games and there have been at least 30 people at each meeting so I'm optimistic about being able to play with people who aren't total faggots.

>Got any new games you're playing or characters you're maining?
Rediscovering Xrd after playing +R for two years. It's good to be back. I'm planning to learn three or four characters as secondaries just for fun since I spent most of my real with with Xrd just playing my main. I liked Jack-O but never got around to playing her because I mentally talked myself out of it.
>Would you like to write a dissertation about how angry you are about games or players?
I played against this Ky in +R recently after having played him a couple months ago. He won most of the games and rounds because he was just better than me, but there were some things he did which underscored how stupid the mechanics in +R are.
<win neutral, do small combo, do safejump oki
<bait DP
<ready for punish
<"lol I did Lightning Javelin FRC and I'm doing j.H on the way down"
<get hit
He didn't do any of the comparatively easy FRCs Ky has for the five or six games we played up until then, but at that exact point he did one of the hardest. Was he saving it in his back pocket? Did he try to do the easier FRCs earlier but screw them up? I don't know. There's just so much inconsistency in the game and so much character power is determined by character mechanics that it sometimes feels impossible to get past the character and actually interact with the player. And that's just a low tier like Ky; Baiken and Zappa are ten times worse.

>What controller(s) are you using?
Qanba Obsidian, which is a piece of chink garbage with a broken screw socket on the back plate but is otherwise fine. I need to replace the microswitches in a smaller Madcatz TES+ so I can have something more portable, though.

The example of someone not understanding core mechanics on my game's best wiki is a link to a twitter post by the guy who ran most of the online events (a former top player). Offline might as well not exist here cos clotshot regulations are still borderline lockdown tier.
>Got any new games you're playing or characters you're maining?
Back after a hiatus, there's a bunch of stuff I'm trying.
>Would you like to write a dissertation about how angry you are about games or players?
Not really. I'm steaming about netcode a bit but we're all sinners for playing online anyway.
Seeing some really odd fake setups recently, dunno why. Some of them are fun, some of them are gay.
>What controller(s) are you using?
Keyboard still. If there's a controller with a form factor like the PS1 controller I'm open to suggestions though.

It was nothing. The feng nerf makes heihachi playable in tournaments, I guess. Akuma is still akuma and ling is still ling i.e. top tier and bad respectively.
Zafina, alisa, kuni, etc. aren't going to get changes to what makes them good and neither are feng, kazuya, geese etc.
>>165958
It's a shame that this game was literally murdered by rollback netcode cos it's actually pretty fun.

I remember that Stranger of Sword City was Win10 exclusive unless you hex edited six values in the exe file. All the values did was create a named process thread, and then immediately close the thread without using it for anything. It was a secret handshake snuck in by the compiler because Win7 takes two syscalls to make a named thread instead of one. The publisher patched in the fix officially when they found out.

No, it was just a huge faggot named PsychoJosh who would namefag on old 8chan and kept talking about how he hated Skullgirls and was going to make his own giantess-themed fighting game. People encouraged him until several years went by without him producing anything. One guy made a shitpost game in Unity with stock assets just to show him how lazy he was.

I believe PsychoJosh is on acidchan now. Sage for dramafaggotry.

>nodev who never betrayed the board or took money is comparable to yandev, who scammed hundreds of thousands and literally shat on the board, censored his game, talked with cucktaco, and fucked off forever
The only thing Psychojosh was guilty of was getting too much attention for an undeveloped project too early on on top of having loud opinions, 99% of agdg ends up as nodevs, he was just one who attracted too much autism to himself.
Yandev's (aka cuckdev) crime wasn't that he was a nodev or did not finish his game, but that he was a cancerous, slimy, pathetic human being with no integrity or balls to speak of.
The nodev shit was just something to laugh at him for after he already ruined himself and betrayed the people who built him up and got him popular in the first place, becoming a laughingstock as well.

I would consider EvaXephon an honorary nodev on the basis of him being a lazy nigger who basically did just enough work on YanSim to get paypigs and then started dribbling out tiny nothing updates like the game was getting its prostate milked, to the point where his imitators (Saikyo no Sutoka, that earlier one he jewed out of existence because it was poaching his paypigs) were surpassing it in both quality and quantity of content.

>special cancel/food mechanic is replaced with Stamina, which has 3 chunks and recharges automatically
>>"something good happens" when Sin eats, which implies it's different from Xrd food
>moves like Elk Hunt and Beak Driver have follow-up attacks and can be cancelled into a dash called Gazelle Step; doing any of this takes 1 stamina chunk
>RTL is intact, and has a meter dump option at the end
>new super is Tyrant Rave, which splits Sol's Tyrant Rave into 2 attacks; the second can be delayed and does more damage if it his with a specific timing

He seems spiritually intact from his Xrd incarnation, but he's still paying the Strive price. j.6H didn't appear once, j.H no longer seems to be a multi-hit crossup, j.D didn't appear once (or if it did, it's a different animation with different properties). The perspective still makes all the characters look fat and their normals look stubby, which sadly seems to have affected Sin as well despite his identity being giant normals and giant pokes. 2S in particular seems incredibly small compared to Xrd 2S.

If you live in a city with a large enough population to sustain a college then there are probably at least a handful of people who play and would like to run sessions and the occasional bracket. Since I'm a bit of a contrarian I'd certainly go for an obscure fighting game that the average normalfag would need Fightcade and a Discord server to be invested to practice and git gud in.
I'm thinking, maybe setting the entrance fee to $0 then also hosting more popular games that you'd need to pay in order to participate in? I'm ideafagging a bit here.

SF, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and potentially a VS game like Marvel 3 are your best bets for getting normalfags to play. Weebs will be attracted to GG Strive because it's new and shiny, as much as it pains me to say so. Older games like GG Xrd or BBCF or MBAACC could be appealing to some people, but not likely. SamSho V Special is also a good inroad since it's very "one attack at a time" compared to faster-paced games.

Free or cheap games help a lot, but only for people who care enough to show up repeatedly. Flashy, pretty games with easy controls are paramount.

There's been a fair amount of news in the last couple weeks but I haven't been cataloguing it. Here's a summary:
>Street Fighter 6
Pre-order trailer (https://yewtu.be/watch?v=ilw0xDkfk2Q) contains footage of Dee Jay, and newcomers Marisa, Manon, and JP. Marisa is an Italian jewelry designer who fights with ancient Greek and Roman attacks, Manon is a French ballerina who practices judo, and JP is a dark-skinned Russian(?) man who appears to be a vessel for M. Bison's psycho power. He is notable for having delayed projectiles he can set on the screen and what appears to be a projectile command grab/unblockable, which is very unusual for Street Fighter characters. Marisa is a mountain of beef that is apparently meant to be an all-natural female.

>Melty Blood Type Lumina
Two new characters were announced, and they'll be free just like all the other DLC for this game. Available Dec 15th.
- Ushiwakamaru: Some kind of kemonomimi girl from FGO.
Trailer: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=Z1Lw5kTAj-I
Gameplay: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=jlbqOjxwr-s
- Edmond Dantes, the Count of Monte Cristo: He's the Count of Monte Cristo if he were a bishie anime boy.
Trailer: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=NQz5A6qdBuo
Gameplay: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=FtNoRq9PO2Y

>Them's Fightin' Herds
Console release happened last month: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=C22Is4RQe6c. Mac version is apparently on the way, but no word on exactly when.
Four new characters are coming as part of the season 1 pass. The first of whom is Texas, Arizona's father, releasing on Dec 19th, and the rest in 2023: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=XzZnTSwOLgo

>Guilty Gear Strive
Verison 1.24 will be released Dec 15th. Patch notes: https://www.guiltygear.com/ggst/en/news/post-1739/
- Cross-play between Sony consoles and Steam.
- Ping display before online matches.
- Being on the defense was miserable, so now you gain more tension the more RISC you have and your RISC drains faster. There's also a limit on how much tension the attacker gains once the defender's RISC bar is cranked to max.
- Something about proximity on attacks (NOT proximity for c.S/f.S, but for attacks that are arbitrarily hardcoded not to connect outside of a certain distance). I knew these were in the game before but it doesn't explicitly say if the devs are adding them to a bunch of moves.

>Shingo
Yep, that sure is a dude in clothing doing punches. Maybe they just don't show it off in the trailer, but if he's supposed to be a slapstick joke character who idolizes Kyo then it doesn't come across in his gameplay at all. A few slide whistle sound effects on a few of his attacks don't cut it.

What still baffles me is how bad 3D animations like this get past SNK's animators, or their Q&A, or whoever should be responsible for this. If you look at Shingo's face when his eyes start glowing with fire, you can see so many problems:
>the fire appears almost immediately from his eyes, which makes it look like it just pops in even though it does take a couple frames to grow out
>the fire is a lame 3D effect that looks identical to every special move in the game
>the fire drifts up and clips into his brow, and generally looks very stiff
>when he's leaping up, the fire is still drifting up, even though it should be flowing down
>the particles drift downward and clip through his entire body, which makes him look like he sneezed all over himself
I'm genuinely startled at how bad it looks for something that is front and center in the screen. This is the big sell of the character's animations and there are a ton of rookie mistakes here.

>Xrd rollback went live this Friday
From my limited experience it's basically the same as the beta which people were unofficially playing for the last few months. It's still missing crucial features like being able to set your delay, and there are no improvements to training mode or other parts of the game. However, I still have confidence that changes like that are on the way since there are still some obvious bugs that need to be ironed out, and the people working on it are the leads of the +R rollback update and the BBCF rollback update/improvment mod - so they obviously know that the game leaves a lot to be desired in terms of training mode features, especially since there are widely used mods that easily patch into the game process.

>GBVS announced a new version called GBVS Rising, which will have new mechanics, game modes, and rollback netcode
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=4Ln58g217C4

SamSho 7's rollback is still "coming 2023" and DBFZ hasn't announced anything definitive, but I'm sure both games will get it at some point.

I just saw that on the game's YouTube channel. I like the visual design/premise of the character, but it's a bit odd to see him with no voice acting and only a single combo. I didn't see any clear indication of how his magic system works, but if he's just "dude with sword" then that's disappointing.

>>186841
Each of the playable characters has a lobby avatar version of his/herself. It's just there to say that this new character is part of the game's "infrastructure."

Tekken might be interesting since all the real pro esports players are in the tekken tour, rev2 for the novelty, there's some samsho 5 in there so that should be cool, CVS and ST2 are always nice, probably some VF and pokken since they are eternally locked in consoles.

>I swear to God the number of trannies grows every time I tune in to one of these things.
Niggers go to main events and EVO, and trannies go to side events that's the rule.
There was a lot of news released in the last few weeks.
>Street Fighter 6
Some new developer matches between developers. They aren't super high level but you can get a good idea of what each character plays like:
- Blanka vs JP - https://yewtu.be/watch?v=JTYp2nCHldo
- Dee Jay vs Dhalsim - https://yewtu.be/watch?v=BgfFt89tDK8
- Marisa vs Manon - https://yewtu.be/watch?v=nkmtV54XsJo
Notably, we can see that the legacy characters appear to have all of their special moves from all of their previous games and appearances, plus new stuff related to the Drive system. It's really nice to see Capcom letting people have fun.

>Tekken 8
Nina Williams reveal trailer: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=N3sAt0JbqNs
Heat and "aggression" system breakdown: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=dNB2yfoBwdo
General mechanics:
>Rage and Rage Arts return; Rage Drives have been cut in favour of the new Heat system
>"aggression" is the idea that flows throughout Tekken 8, affecting both its gameplay design and presentation
>"Heat system"
>blocking certain big, beefy attacks inflicts chip damage as temporary health
>>temporary health can't kill you, and can be healed by attacking
>>most attacks in combos also inflict some temporary health, but low attacks seem to remove some of it/not inflict much or at all
>power crushes inflict temporary health when absorbing an attack, as opposed to T7 where you took regular damage

Summary of heat mechanics:
>heat lasts for 10 seconds by itself, but the timer is paused while you attack
>you start each round with a heat gauge, and can enter head one of two ways:
>>Heat Burst, which can be either a raw activation or a generic attack
>>Heat Engager, which is one of a handful of specific attacks for your character
>while heated, all your character's attacks inflict chip damage
>while heated, your character's "personality and distinct attacks" are powered up, e.g. Paul's death fist becomes a guard crush
>entering heat with a heat burst gives you 1 heat token (forget the name), which can be spent on a Heat Dash, but entering with a Heat Engager gives you 2 tokens
>>a Heat Dash is basically a dash cancel that lets you extend combos by giving moves new properties (forced counter hits?)
>>a Heat Smash is a ground slam/bounce similar to the Tekken 6 bound system, which takes your entire remaining heat gauge but gives different combo extensions and a chunk of damage

Well, SNK are probably the most technically incompetent fighting game developer on the market today, and they're retrofitting rollback into a game that wasn't made for it at all, and whose appearance shows they barely understand how to do 3D graphics properly. I imagine there will be subsequent betas and that things will get better, optimistic as that may be.

Now what I really want is updates for the Xrd rollback implementation. There are still obvious graphical bugs like super flash animations and desyncs happen pretty frequently.

That said . . .

>hackers can overheat your GPU and bluescreen your computer using a memory leak
>tourneyfags and streamers are the most vulnerable, but regular players have nothing to fear because they aren't interesting/named
>meanwhile, the devs appear to be more concerned with pandering to trannies, faggots, and niggers, and merchandising bridget for tranny meme dollars (not many)
>the public lobbies STILL don't work properly, often dropping connections and preventing people from just playing the game

>the game will likely dry up the moment Street Fighter 6 drops

Bridget was retconned to "self-identify as a woman" and be referred to as a she/her after Goldlewis and Ky groomed him in his arcade mode story. Testament was also changed to be "non-binary" and referred to as a they/them. The stated story reason for Bridget was that he just decided he preferred being a girl (retconning the entire point of his character: that he was yaoi shota fapbait was still a dude despite dressing and looking like a girl). The stated story reason for Testament was that he was turned into something that doesn't fit the male/female human dichotomy due to being surgically altered (retconning 20+ years of him being referred to as a man, son, father, etc.).

These are both obvious bullshit reasons done to pander to trannies and tranny dicksuckers, as is the hiring of a tranny voice actor for Testament in Strive.

There has also been, I believe, a higher-than-usual amount of official or officially licensed merch of Bridget in comparison to other GG characters, but I could be wrong about that since I don't follow merch closely and I'm sure every tranny and faggot takes it upon himself to show that stuff everywhere he can.

Looks like the leak was true. While I'm glad they have the tight yoga pants showing her ass, I wonder how long it'll last before they censor it. They already did that in V, censoring her nipples bleeding from her leotard, her intro showing her cameltoe, and later forced Cammy players during tournaments go with alternate costumes instead of her default (though that may have only been EVO).
>>188907
>I imagine they're doing it to sneak stuff past the ratings boards rather than because they genuinely think Westerners hate sex
If the leaks from years ago regarding capcom's future plans are true, they are censoring/changing things like sex appeal willingly, trying to be more like western devs. You can see this with their other games as of late (using voice actress' faces via motion capture instead of making the women look good, altering female costumes to be more "realistic" and the like). It's the fate of all Jap companies with western/Californian branches. Infiltrators in said branches work to change things for all versions so the western branch can't be called out on it as easily (though Jap players are still aware of it), as well as create less work for them.

That was Mika at EVO, and I believe it only happened once.

>leaks from years ago regarding capcom's future plans are true
SF6 is a radical change in leadership and direction for Capcom as a whole, and it's the first time in a while that their fighting game division has actually given a shit about making a quality product (Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, Street Fighter V, endless Street Fighter V crossovers that were desperate to promote the game, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary, Ultra Street Fighter 2, and probably a few more nostalgia bait items I'm forgetting). With Ono gone and two younger faces in charge of the game, I imagine that the suits who were stupid enough to push SFV out the door have learned their lesson and are letting the devs have more control over the product and its direction.

I know that a lot of Japanese devs are getting cucked due to Sony's retarded policies and the inevitable California connection, but given how Capcom has personally been ruined by Inafune's meddling and obsession with pandering to Westerners, I would like to believe they're only paying as much lip service as they need to. God knows the Japanese don't buy non-mobile games anymore.

https://nitter.fly.dev/MufausaThe3rd/status/1635092198827102208

It will be coming to fightcade. Current games are "pretty much every Capcom and Namco fighter":
Tekken 1, 2, 3
Bloody Roar
Rival Schools
Digimon Rumble Arena
Street Fighter EX2
Kensei Sacred Fist
Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi (maybe?)
Star Gladiator 1

Wow it's fucking nothing. That said if this can work with a STUN server that doesn't ban you for saying the nigger word I am so totally organizing a Tekken Ball tournament.

You can download the raw emulator and use that instead of fightcade if you're still pretending to be surprised about their pledge to globohomo propaganda. You could have seen that from the video in the link I posted, but that would require you to click on it, read it, and maybe even watch it.

If you can rig your own solution that bypasses Fightcade's gay account system then that'd be pretty neat too.

Sick. Also we're slowly getting close to having all fighting games avaliable to play online.

<hurr lrn2read
This is not the epic own you thought it was. I mean ideally once it's actually finished it's going to have its own matchcode-based traversal server just like Flycast Dojo, but it's still early and the faggot writing this could easily chain himself to fightcade's proprietary bullshit instead.

The problem isn't that it's windows-only even though that's still retarded but that it's tied to a specific OS at all. The parts of the emulator the netcode needs to interact with should be platform-independent and given how the Evo pedo was shilling GGPO to every fighting game studio on the planet it should be platform-independent too.

Me either but as far as I understand Strive is supposed to be boring. It's for increasing Arcsys' social credit score and milking western normalfags that only know of GG from memes and are programmed to think DBFZ and SFV are the peak of competitive gameplay, not to be an actually good Guilty Gear game.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were literally true. the 3D GGs have been pretty shit from what I've seen. I gave Xrd? Was that what it was called? I gave Xrd a trypirated of course and in addition to the gutted roster, it just felt so goddamn slow. I really couldn't get into it like I did the 2D games.

Xrd was the first game with its art style, 3D models in the style of 2D, unless you count Overture which I sincerely hope you don't.

So do you play Zappa or Testament?

What next? Slayer's gonna become a drag queen through ancient vampirism bullshit and change his name to Slay Queen because vampires transitioning was always possible in the series because daisuke said so but in reality he came up with it 2 minutes ago?
Daisuke made me lose all the respect i had for him ever since strive got announced. Opening their branch in commiefornia was a fucking mistake, we lost another japanese studio to these cannibals.

Has there ever been a case where the console/PC port of a fightan was objectively superior to the arcade original prior to the 21st century?

Objectively you're a faggot.
Subjectively, Tekken 3 has Tekken Ball, and the Dreamcast port of Soul Calibur was the first fighting game shilled as "better than arcade perfect" by critics due to running on a new generation of hardware than the arcade.
>>191921
>prior to the 21st century
Prior to that the arcade versions looked significantly better, but the home versions had more game modes and training mode.

I know I seem to complain about this with every new KoF DLC character, but I have no idea what the 3D animators at SNK are doing. Aside from the inevitable disappointment about Kim's pants barely being animated, a lot of his animations look stiff and lifeless - his max super whatever is particularly bad.
>pops in and out on either side of his opponent, which genuinely looks like a Gmod video
>no transition into the second part; he just starts lifting his opponent up in the air and the camera angle changes
>kicks his opponent away and upwards, then rotates in midair (where did this motion come from?)
>after rotating, he launches upward into the single most awkward knee strike I've ever seen
>after the knee, he rotates about his waist and limply drags his trailing foot into a "kick" for the final freeze frame
The screenshots here make it look a bit worse than it does in motion, but not much. I genuinely don't understand how or what he's upposed to be doing to get from a right knee strike with his arms twisted the wrong way, to a trailing left kick with his arms twisted the other wrong way.

When you use your arms to counterbalance for a kick, you swing them TOWARDS the direction of the kick. If you kick with your right leg, then you move your arms to the right to compensate. Here, Kim is striking with his right knee, but he's got his arms twisted as though he's in the wind-up for a right leg kick. And then he just rotates his body. And then his left leg drifts into position, completely independent of his arms or the rest of his body.

I've genuinely seen Source Filmmaker fights that understood choreography better than this. It's absolutely absurd.

It's not that hard. If anything, it's easier than other 3D fighters, sidewalking evades moves very easily. Every other nuance (even basic stuff is unique in some ways) is explained very well by SC2 EVO champion here https://www.yewtu.be/watch?v=gq2WrfoMxo0
