I'm going to buy a new GPU in a a few months, should I go with green or red?
Nvidia has the AI bullshitery which sounds neat if I ever decide to give neural networks another try, and also I've heard it's more stable.
On the other hand AMD has more VRAM and it's more open. I might try to run a pure linux system depending on how proton turns out and AMD would probably be better for that.
I'm currently leaning towards a 6600/6700 XT but I've never dealt with AMD before.

What's the best way to go about making a Sleeper PC?
Could you make the PS/2 and floppy disk drives compatible?
>>140106
Just get an old office PC or chinkshit ATX case and stuff your shit in it. Fair warning though, vintage cases are fucking ovens, you're lucky to get more than one fan and there is zero cable management so you have a rats nest in the middle of your airflow. Depending on the case your GPU and PSU may not fit either.

I would buy an AMD GPU with 6GB (or more) VRAM, if you can. When you are shopping for PC parts, I recommend you take a look at https://www.logicalincrements.com/ Another tip: If you want to know whether a GPU runs your games, go to Youtube and search for "Doom gameplay $GPU_model" (or similar). Try also omitting the manufacturer from the search query.

Either do as >>140111 said but I wouldn't bother making one. Instead, I would get a mid-range (E)ATX case with dust filters.

Nowadays, you need to have a computer anyway. A desktop can be also used for shitposting and other essential stuff. A desktop can be upgraded (usually, you need to just upgrade the GPU), but consoles are made to become obsolete later. PC games are also cheaper (buy from GOG sale), and there are also some free (and even open-source) games/emulators for PC. (For example, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory: >>132856 ). Pirating is also easier.

Everything I've heard about Linux running on Nvidia cards makes it sound like an absolute pain. AMD seems the better option even if it has worse/fewer features like recording from GPU and not being able to freely control the camera in certain games.

green did release their info so open source drivers can exist, but it's still very new and very early in development.

If you want to do some Nintendo Switch emulation you're going to want windows/green and intel cpu as amd seems to have issues with switch emulation. I am not sure how this plays out with Linux running a Windows VM with GPU Passthrough.

>Everything I've heard about Linux running on Nvidia cards makes it sound like an absolute pain.
The problem is that you need to use Nvidia's proprietary drivers. In Arch/Artix, you just need to run sudo pacman -S nvidia (or nvidia-lts if you use the LTS version of Linux kernel) and add nvidia-drm.modeset=1 kernel parameter to your Grub config (also see Early loading using mkinitcpio from the Archwiki page). In Xubuntu, you can use the Software And Updates settings => Additional Drivers tab to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers. With AMD, the non-free drivers are 100% optional (and I don't know anyone who uses them). And once Nvidia drops the support for your card, software may stop working at some point. Before you consider buying a Nvidia GPU, I recommend you read: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA#Installation
The Nouveau drivers (the FOSS Nvidia drivers) are terrible, unless you have really old GPU. If you go with an AMD GPU, you just install the FOSS AMDGPU drivers (xf86-video-amdgpu) and it will just work. Also, it's not just an ethical problem (FOSS vs proprietary software). I had pretty terrible experience with an OEM Nvidia GPU model but that was 10 years ago. The non-OEM GPUs should work better, but with AMD you are guaranteed that it will be just smooth sailing.
>>140103 (OP)
If you plan on playing vidya, it's hard not to go green. Better performance and proprietary features like DLSS and Boost are nice to have. AMD will have a lot less problems with linux, plus not giving money to jewvidya is a bonus.

They didn't, they put effort into making it look like they did while they actually moved all their shit into a different binary blob and open sourced a wrapper around it.
It was nothing more than a marketing stunt aimed at the steadily lowering level of intelligence of linux users, as distros turn into systemd whores and freetard organisations get taken over by socjus types and microsoft employees instead of actual freetards.

As for OP, I'm not sure why you would try to build a PC when the new generation shit is coming out before the end of the year.

If you are planning to do work that uses the GPU you will have much less friction going with nvidia, almost everything uses CUDA.

Provided you use the closed drivers nvidia works just as hassle-free as AMD from what I've seen of AMD setups. The longerm support could be a painpoint though.

I wish there was an easy way to avoid posting your IP (Other than paying for a VPN and playing through that) to do some LAN play with anons.
I know people organize over shit like tox and trade IDs (or use throwaways) but it would be nice to have a way to organize in a much more temporary environment like a chatroom. i wonder how successful something for organizing mp would be if it was similar to the share thread.

The problem of exchanging IPs over a public channel is already addressed by encryption, just post your public key here and any other anon can send you his IP without having it revealed to anyone but you.

I dont understand what you mean, if i wanted to host a lan game using something like goldberg I would need your IP along with anyone else they want to play. So we get threads full of IPs like in /japan/ with sokuniggers. Not everyone is ok with that so turnout is poor. Plus if it's a game that is new there may be some testing involved getting it working with mods and there really isnt a good environment to talk about this stuff freely without creating crawlable imageboard pages with lists of IPs.

What I mean by this is that asymmetric encryption is what you can use for this problem using something like PGP to generate a public and private key, then you post the public key here and other anons can use your public key to encrypt their message that includes their IP and post it in a public thread with only you being able to decrypt it and invite them in the game or something.

For more context on my current situation I'm currently running a w7 machine with an intel CPU. In the future I want to run a bare minimum linux OS as a hypervisor and play vidya on VMs so OS might not be that much of a factor, but I still want something that runs well in both just in case.
I'm worried about VRAM as that is my current bottleneck and I'm also worried about waiting for the new GPUs to be released given the semiconductor market is still fucked.
Currently I'm leaning towards red because they're slightly less gay (even if it comes at the cost of less features) have more VRAM, and I want to get an AMD CPU too eventually. But then again, AI is a maybe on my list and I also don't know how well AMD works.

>I'm worried about VRAM as that is my current bottleneck and I'm also worried about waiting for the new GPUs to be released given the semiconductor market is still fucked.
Why are you so hung up on the amount of VRAM? That only matters if you're doing something like video processing/editing, so don't buy a GPU based solely on the amount of VRAM it has, to give you an example you could buy a RTX 3060, which has 12GB, but why would you do that when the RX 6600 (8GB) is around 10% faster and costs way less (they were on sale for $400 around a month ago)? Hell, the revision/upgrade of that same card, the 3060 Ti, has 8GB yet is around 30% faster than the old 3060.

There are a lot of factors when it comes to buying GPUs, even the manufacturer matters if you want your card solely for games.

Budget doesn't mean much when you're not a burger and specific parts depend a lot on the local availability. That's why I specified I'm between a 67/6600XT or a 3060/3070, depending on how cheap I can get it.

Can tactical first person shooters have bosses?
As far as I'm aware, the only way to make a Boss type enemy work in shooters is by giving it ridiculous amounts of health or by making the fight completely scripted and have the boss pop out from random places and have invincibility frames when it's not shooting the player.

So, how would one design a boss in a tactical shooter where enemies are supposed to die very quickly and their difficulty stems entirely from their smart AI?
How would you do it?

Just give them the same abilities as the player, allow the boss to flashbang you or shoot at you through wooden doors or have it be able to use the optiwand to look under doors/around corners. just making them a bullet sponge is mad gay you need to make them smart as heck so that they outwit the player rather than outgun the player. its like asking how to make a boss for a stealth game its almost impossible to get right, MGS did that shit poorly but something like splinter cell spies vs mercs would work much better where the boss plays as the spy tracking you down and killing you if you are not too careful

However, you could also implement an enemy that has an unrealistic gadget that would significantly give it an advantage over you like a cloaking field or an armoured shield wall. Also, a boss doesn't have to just be a single strong dude, it could be implemented as a literal deathsquad coming to get you with heavy weapons instead of just rifles, auto grenade launchers with airbursts, thermal imaging, dynamically placing c4 charges or using LAW/RPG launchers to breach your cover, callin mortar fire on you via a motion sensor with stupid accuracy or maybe just a full on LMG squad with infinite ammo that isn't afraid to use it to swiss cheese the map.

Technically everything should work just fine, but i've heard people mention you should avoid pairing intel CPUs with AMD cards, i have no idea why though. AMD CPU (3600/5600X) with an old Nvidia GPU (970/1060) was a popular choice back when coyid first hit the west, and no one reported any compatibility issues or anything of the sort.

Again, do you plan on mostly rendering videos with your card? Because if you do then the 3060 ($400 to $500) is a good choice, otherwise i'd go with a 6600 XT, they're selling for less than $400 on newegg right now, convert that to your currency to see how much it'll cost you, but it's fucking cheap, half a year ago this thing was going for $700 and a month ago the slightly inferior 6600 was selling for exactly $400. The 6600 XT is only slightly weaker than a 3060 Ti, which is a lot more expensive, expect to pay at least $600 for it.

>Well no shit, is your card from 2011 or so? Are you a cryptocuck or rendering videos 24/7 for your GPU usage to be 100% all the time?
It's a 960. VRAM is not at 100% all the time, just when I'm playing vidya.

Definitely get the 6600 XT then, don't know how much they cost in your country but i'd pay up to $450 for one.

Well it's not that bad of a card but 4GB of VRAM is the bare minimum for anything these days.

You don't need a 6700XT. Nothing worth playing needs it to run well. 6600XT is enough for Project Wingman and that's the only game that benefits from a new GPU and isn't AAA brain poison.

Kind of, scalpers/cryptokikes won't dump their old card until october, so official stores will sell their cards for only $100 or so above MSRP. Personally i'm waiting for a $500 3060 Ti.

>>140895
Nope.

3060 Ti>6600 XT>3060=6600

3060 Ti is around 30% faster than the 3060 and 6600. It is also around 5% to 10% faster than the 6600 XT.

3070>6700 XT, although the difference is minimal despite the later having 12GB of VRAM, both are selling way above MSRP so get the 6600 XT and don't upgrade until next gen.

I've heard PW VR doesn't run at a full 60 with the 6600 XT, and that's pretty high on my priority list. I don't have VR yet, but still.
>>140897
>both are selling way above MSRP
The 6700 XT is selling for like 25% more than the 6600 XT on local stores and I'm only going to buy it if it drops even further.
If it's not that different from the 3070 it seems like a good GPU to get, specially since I'm probably going to keep it for like 5 years minimum.

If it's a strictly modern shooter:
>Artillery/mortar/etc support
>Sniper support
>Air support (don't go near windows or open spaces)
>Traps
>Hidden passages only the boss can use
>Limited senses
>Really good equipment or unique gear like rpgs or C4
>Just a lot of enemies

I can think of a lot more but it depends on what a boss means. The problem is, tactical shooters try to be as real as possible so they stick to "a mexican is holding a hostage behind 50 doors with a pistol".
>>140859
Depending on the setting gadgets could work but it'd have to be non-goofy.

Are there any good DS3-like controllers that aren't retard expensive?
Getting a real DS3 is almost impossible because the market's been flooded with cheap knockoffs branded as official sony controllers.
I'm currently using a F310 and the overall quality is good but it lacks vibration and the triggers and the d-pad are pretty bad to use. The F710 does have vibration but it has the same shitty triggers and it's also wireless only.
I've heard the 8bit-do controller is good but I hate the design, it doesn't look like it would be as comfortable to use.

You're most likely trying to buy them on amazon, that's why you're getting nothing but fakes. Go to craigslist or facebook marketplace and buy one for $10, there's this tool called DS3hidmini that will let you use it on PC like if it were a x-input controller, it can also detect fakes just by plugging them in, however i recommend getting another controller instead, as a lot of games shit themselves even with said tool and x360ce, i got so fed up with nearly all my steam games recognizing it as a d-input controller and completely disabling/messing with the analog sticks that i got a wired 360 controller instead.
Replies: >>141687 >>141705
>>141676
I've looked at multiple online stores but a lot of the reviews claim they're fake because of multiple reasons like lower quality when compared to the originals. I haven't actually bought one myself but I usually have bad luck when it comes to online shopping.
Physical stores would be an option but they don't stock ps3 controllers anymore, just meme chinkshit and the latest bullshit.
Replies: >>141693
>>141687
Just search for fake DS3 controller, you'll find info how to spot them, but usually only after you have it (like missing reset button, the analog stick being so fucking sensitive that it barely qualifies as analog (if you can move it to the corners of the X-Y rectangle it's fake), the manufacturer field in the usb descriptor is some chink shit, like SZMY-POWER CO.,LTD. instead of sony, the pressure sensor under the buttons doesn't work correctly, etc),
In the end I just bought a(n expensive) new DS4 from a local store after I got fed up with all the completely garbage chink controllers and fake DSes. But even that was years ago, I don't know if you can even do that, or they only care about soystation5 now.

You could justify a lot of "video gamey" mechanics if you simply get creative enough. I'd personally make the boss arena a prepper bunker or a Soviet-era building made of concrete (to prevent players shooting through walls), and have the boss be a paranoid schizoid guy holed up in a secret room somewhere. Depending on how you want to frame things and where you want the challenge to come from, you could give the boss a lot of advantages like knowledge of the players' locations (hidden cameras), traps, tripwires, false doors, drones, strobe lights/flashbangs, and a bunch of other stuff.
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=7d0opAMt-oU

Depending on how (un)predictable you want the boss to be, you can simply say that he's having a total breakdown or he's simply that paranoid.

Someone I know who I genuinely trust with recommendations recently played through the 3DS one, and now is starting 2 on the Switch.
Xenoblade Chronicles on the 3DS was good, but the world, while beautiful aesthetically, is very lacking (i.e. all the NPCs are inconsequential)
somehow the game was good enough to get through the game without caring about a lot of the characters including much of the main cast since Shulk starts out as a boring goody-two-shoes (they also didn't like the combat system but that might be personal preference), they gave it an 8.5-6 or so, it was nice that Shulk got some development by the end, but it had notable issues that prevented it from being truly great
XB2 on the other hand, they've been having an absolute blast with thus far, much of the problems of 1 was rectified, writing and characters are written much more compelling, world is much better, and there's been plenty of "OH SHIT" moments, and possibly some tearjerking moments, can't remember
there's minor things that I think you get from playing the earlier ones, I asked them about that but so far its just a little helpful and explanatory (like helping see different faces/sides of a statue)
afaik they are not direct sequels. Definitely pretty lengthy.
At least from what I understand, 2 is the best.

>Are the Xenoblade Chronicles games any good?

>What kind of games they are, action RPG, or turn based combat RPG?
Real time with pause, think tab targeting combat of an MMO but with various minigames/subsystems to prevent it from being a waiting game or single ability spam.
>Are the sequels direct sequels or they feature a different cast and story like the Final Fantasy games?
X is mostly unrelated but 2 references both 1 and X.
>Are they lengthy games? Any boring grinding?
Around 100 hours if you decide to do the side content. Grinding is nonexistent in the first one, extremely obnoxious in X and somewhat annoying in 2.

Meh I played a bit of unturned now and I guess I can see why I stopped playing this game at one point, its inventory is ass because it has some retarded logic how items are stacked and certain ammo types such as 20 gauge shells take up 6 gorllion space for some reason, the 20 gauge shotgun doesn't even instakill a group of zombies and instead takes multiple shot making a terrible weapon. The damn cobra pistol that I looted off from the prison is much more useful as I get 20 shots in a single mag which is enough against a group of zombies.

And the 12 gauge ammo is awfully rare for some reason, I was once lucky enough to being able to loot of 2x Devils Bane shotgun but I didn't bothered to pick it because I bet getting ammo for it is even more rare.

And it also annoys how weapons look so awfully basic in design its like I'm playing a fucking zombie themed duplo game.

I like looting shit but Unturned has one of the stupidest inventory system I have ever seen, also being able to carry only 2 weapons at a time is fucking gay.

Overall I'd say that Unturned is a shit game and it gets already a major downside for having the cancer that is its market system.

>>143108
I asked another guy if this game is moddable and has settings for ez modo and apparently it has, though playing another fucking zombie game is not exactly my type, I would rather fight off slimes with a rusty pistol and a broken knife instead.

Well, the problem you'll have that anything made in the last 15-20 years won't really have win98 drivers. Yes, you'll have basic VGA and hard disk support without drivers, but that's about. You could look around msfn forums, there are a bunch of autists there still using and developing shit for that.

I get mad at the term "character action game" because it is literally the least descriptive most general fucking term for a game genre I have ever heard in my life.
In literally EVERY single game you EVER fucking played has a character doing an action be it from racing games, fighting games, shooters, puzzle games, adventure games, turn based games, dungeon crawlers, TEXT ADVENTURES, fucking PONG has the two characters doing actions, the first video game ever made has a character doing actions.
If you did not know what "character action game" was supposed to describe in the first place you would have never have known what the fuck it was supposed to represent.
Just use hack and slash for fucks sake that literally what they're doing.

Using Steam is so convenient, so much so I might just do buy fagging on a regular basis from now on. Just click install and it just works. Where in piracy, you have to do this and that to get shit to work. Not hard by any means, but requires much more effort than Steam. Is there anyway to make piracy a one click done install like Steam? Because that would obliterate Steam for sure.
>>144594
So we have igg-games, one of the biggest piracy sites right now. Imagine people like them have something like a steam client, and you would download and install games just like on Steam. Why haven't they done so? The users only want convenience and free shit, no way Steam would be able to compete if a model like that were to exist. For the developers, you can install an app on users' computers. Then ads, and tracking, and more ads => more revenue for the devs. This seems like a win win to me. Is it that hard to code something like this?

Hey you guys, i want to learn how to reverse engineer games/systems, where do i start? I was thinking of just trying to reverse engineer atari games since those are relatively not that complex and i assume it wouldnt take too much effort to get them ported over to PC-linux. But before you get into all of this, make sure you have a decent grasp on programming and some knowledge of how graphics libraries like OpenGL/DirectX work.
Looking to make my own portable gaming device, any tips? do i use a raspberry pi 4 and then do the thing or do i chop up some game hardware board and use that instead?

What the fuck happened to Santa Monica Studio? An undisclosed number of people were let go between God of War 3 and Ascension (the weakest of real GoW games) and leadership changed a couple of times, but Cory "daddy" Barlog seems to have been the series director since GoW2.
How did it go from babby's first cuhhrayzee brawler to The Last of Us: Son Edition? It is so god damn preachy and surface level, it's like it was written by someone who never grew out of their teenage phase. The camera is atrocious, the combat is a hassle, the environments look nice when you stand still, but mush into busy pixelshit when you try to look for puzzle solutions (motion blur disabled). Level scaling is just retarded, I can't even get into it without writing up an entire thesis on its suckage. It's so tryhard and shallow at the same time, it's so fucking bad.
What the fuck happened? It couldn't just have been game director getting kids, right?

You shouldn't need to read a statement on Nig Lives Matter to know that Toady is a leftist retard. Remember the gay dwarves, tranny dwarves, and to a lesser degree the removal of mermaid farming because it was "too gruesome" (instead of because it was too OP, he doesn't give a shit about that most of the time).
And let's not forget his previous game that's literally called Liberal Crime Squad, which some anons thought was making fun of leftists but was in reality his actual worldview, that liberals should do terrorism against the evil racist goverment for oppressing the poor niggers and gays. He must've loved the BLM riots.
The faggotry is relatively easily modded out of the game through editing some text files, but you shouldn't donate money to Toady, ever.

LCS was always explicitly a parody of "what conservatives think liberals are like", aka what all leftists are like. Also he spent most of his professorship at A&M whacked the fuck out on amphetamines and got quietly fired for receiving sexual favors from a student. I swear the only reason Toady isn't dead is because there's a clause in his will to shred the DF source code if he gets gooded.

At least he didn't make some statement in game. The addition of gay dwarves isn't great but at least it's pretty minor. DF is still at the peak of sandbox interaction.
