This one snuck up on me and I figured I'd make a thread and summarize it for anyone who cared.
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=EhDFA_O7zNg

Games Sorry, that's "The Games" because Nintendo's translators have been acting like retards recently and every time someone refers to a game, he says "The ____ Game" like a mong.
>Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
Musou/Dynasty Warriors game set in the world of FE 3 Houses.
>Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp
Remake of the first 2 Advance Wars games with nu-graphics that somehow look worse than GBA sprites, and voice acting. I took a screenshot of this one because I think it looks incredibly jarring to see cutesy 2D animation, simple 3D models, and detailed 3D battle backgrounds in the same image. I imagine it'll look more jarring on a big television. It'll have a map maker that will presumably let you draw swastikas and porn, so I guess it won't be all bad.
>No Man's Sky
Yes, fucking really. I didn't realize Nintendo was this desperate. The buttermilk lens filter and bad 3D models look even even more tacky on the Switch's hardware.
>MARIO STRIKERS BATTLE LEAGUE
It's a new Super Mario Strikers, complete with the gratuitous violence and electric fences and they let Peach wear short shorts. Has a gear system that lets you customize your stats, and teams are 4v4. The online modes have clans/clubs, with a limit of 20 players for some reason.
>Splatoon 3 footage
We already knew about this, but they had some footage for you to pore over which showcased the new enemies in Salmon Run (hode defense mode).
>Front Mission 1st
"Full remake" of Front Mission 1, with a remake of Front Mission 2 to follow sometime. Sure to disappoint. A mecha head will need to provide more info on this since I've never played the Front Mission games.
>Disney Speedstorm
Disney kart racer with a freemium model. Looks pretty slow, even compared to something like 150cc/200cc in Mario Kart 8. New seasons of content will come later.
>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii port)
<you lived long enough to see Starkiller brought back as a nostalgia grab on a Nintendo console
>Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Trilogy
<you lived long enough to see Ezio Auditore brought back as a nostalgia grab on a Nintendo console
>SD Gundam Battle Alliance
SD meaning "super-deformed" or chibi. Some kind of crossover Gundam game.
>Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition
"Remaster" of Chrono Cross, which apparently people wanted? All I know about Chrono Cross is that it's some kind of weird sequel/spin-off to Chrono Trigger and apparently has no respect for the lore. At least the graphics aren't being pozzed or remade. New features include disabling enemy encounters (the characters are shown sliding past a giant enemy crab), an "enhanced" soundtrack, and the Radical Dreamers choose-your-own-adventure VN originally released only on the Satellaview, which was apparently a satellite modem peripheral for the Super Famicom.
>Kirby And The Forgotten Land AKA Kirby eats an entire fucking car
Kirby explores a blasted post-apocalyptic landscape full of viciuos aminal createurs and he recsues teh waddle deez who r kul an help kriby wen he savs them an dey mak hiz copy abililitezz evn MOAR pwrful to KILL THE BAEST PACK who r not nice
The leopard boss looks cute.
>MLB The Show
I wish I'd saved a spot for a screenshot of this one since it looks terrible with awful anti-aliasing.
>Kingdom Hearts cloud versions
Stream an action-adventure game over the internet on the Switch's wi-fi port. What could go wrong?
>Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series
What appear to be full remakes of the first two Klonoa games. The graphical style actually has some colour in it and looks pretty good, but I know better than to get my hopes up. Looks more like a gen 6 game than a current gen one, which means it has better visuals than anything released in the last decade.
>Portal: Companion Collection
LE CAKE IS A LIE XDDDDD
Portal and Portal 2. Seems to have some of the online modes of Portal 2, but I don't know how much.
>Live A Live
Some hideous "HD 2D" (Octopath Traveler artstyle vomit) remake of Live A Live. Seems to have full voice acting, which is appropriate for the jagged visual style.
>Nintendo Switch Sports
Nice try, Ninty, but you're never going to capture the magic of Wii Sports again. Strap a joycon to your leg and kick a soccer ball, why not? Launches with 6 (I think?) sports, and a couple more will be added through patches. There's an open online beta from the 18th to the 20th.
>Taiko no Tatsujin (Taiko Drum Master): Rhythm Festival
This one has Megalovania as a track so you know it's good.
>Triangle Strategy
Final Fantasy Tactics knockoff with the hideous Octopath Traveler ("HD 2D") art style. There's a demo available today.
>Cuphead: Delicious Last Course
Releasing June 30th. Looks like more Cuphead, so it'll probably be really good.
>Metroid Dread
Free update that adds a "dread mode" where every single thing is a 1-hit kill. Also ass rookie mode that makes healing items more potent. Releases today. There's an update coming in April that will add boss rush mode.
>Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings
That is, Mother and Mother 2 are being added to the Switch's online pass for anyone too stupid to download a ROM. Mother 3 is still NEVER EVER.

Then there was sizzle reel:
>Zombie Army 4: Dead War (yes, this is actually the title)
>GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon
>Demon Slayer - The Hinokami Chronicles
>Lego Brawls
>Two Point Campus

>Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass
You got boosted, right, goy?
Remastered courses from previous Mario Kart games, released 8 at a time in 6 waves "by the end of 2023" (48 in total). Price is $24.99 USD and does not appear to include any shy gals in thigh-highs. You're leaving money on the table, Nintendo.
First wave hits March 18th. If you buy the shitty expansion pack for Nintendo Switch Online, you get this for free (and presumably will lose access to it as soon as you stop paying).
Okay, but seriously, why did they use the terms "booster" and "wave" to describe a Mario Kart DLC plan? There are other established terms for this type of thing. Does it have something to do with that video John Hopkins Medical Center posted on Twitter? I swear this smells fishy.
>Xenoblade Chronicles 3 featuring sad and angry Welsh cat noises
Looks pretty grim and dark and super srs bsns compared to the previous games. I heard good things about XC2, so presumably this will be at least decent. Coming September 2022.
>>116724 (OP)
>with the hideous Octopath Traveler ("HD 2D") art style.
I like it.

I watched the Japanese direct that didn't have Advance Wars or any of that western shit except for NMS, Disney Kart, Portal, and Cuphead. Instead it had some FMV mystery game, some shitty looking Koei strategy game, and some interesting looking VN/RPG.

I am most looking forward to Xenoblade 3 and Kirby. Might also get Klonoa since I like the first game and never played the second one. Chrono Cross might be cool if it wasn't a disgusting blurry mess.

>why did they use the terms "booster" and "wave" to describe a Mario Kart DLC plan?
It's just called the "course expansion pass" in Jap.

We are quickly reaching the point where a new tablet/console/whatever is on the table. Looks like they'll repeat the Wii U and save the biggest releases for both the new thing and the Switch. Though this time everyone has a Switch so porting all the games over to the new guy isn't going to work unless its Skyrim of course.

What the fuck would a successor to the Switch even look like? Given the first one had such a bad case of the nogaems it would need to have backwards compat. That means another Tegra-based design to avoid bedshitting, but I've seen nothing of the sort from the industry hotsheets, not even rumors of a 4K Shield.

I'd imagine Nintendo's going to try extend the lifespan of the Switch because of the chip shortage, and a successor announcement by late 2023/2024 at the earliest.

It's already fairly evident they don't care that much about a being graphical powerhouse so ideally they'd just focus on getting it to the point that it could run a game like Age of Calamity without it chugging balls.
>>116766
Cloud gaming already is viable. I've played through games on the xcloud service and had a decent experience. Control on the switch is reasonably decent from what I found in the demo. Like it or not, the future of gaming is going to be cloud streaming because any idiot with a decent mobile connection in any part of the world can play the latest games. Mobile + cloud is casual bait. Hardcore gamers will stick to very expensive high end PCs but casuals will eat up streaming services on their phones on their android/iphones.

The switch is seriously behind in tech now. It has to rely on cloud but doesn't have a good enough wifi connection to do it. So it's like every other Nintendo console where it sells well for first party but not for third party. It's selling really well so Nintendo won't give up on it yet and won't create a 2 tier system problem like the 3DS had. The latest unreal won't run on the switch at all so they will lean on cloud gaming for another year or two before announcing the Switch 2. Hoping they don't fuck up again like they did with the WiiU

>>116769
power isn't the only issue the switch faces. As games move to newer engines the switch can't run it at all. It struggled to run the witcher without serious down grades. The switch is becoming a glorified tablet (more than it already was).

There's something about the models in the AW1 and AW2 remake that makes them look like shit compared to the original sprites, but I can't put it into words. Overall, this direct was much better than the last one.
>>116770
That's probably one of their concerns moving forward. The Switch has had some of the best 3rd party support a Nintendo has had in a good while and with how much of a shitshow the Wii U was to develop for I'm sure they're at least not going to try and replicate that.

Cloud gaming is probably the most likely option going into the future but it can still probably survive just with its 1st parties and random indie 3rd parties for a good while.

>>116779
The Switch is already 3/4ths of the way through a standard console lifespan. The chip shortage is going to extend this but I successor isn't that outlandish for announcement at 2023/24 then release in 2025/26.

There is some consideration to be given for their handhelds lasting for 9~ years so what they could do is release the successor with backwards compatibility for 2-3 years for the switch then slowly phase it out; similar to their approach with the DS/DSi/3DS.

Stadia is like the steam deck. Only nerds care. MS, Sony or Nintendo releasing a digital only console with heavy reliance on cloud would do better than Stadia. We'll have to see KH's on the switch's sales figures to see if it's viable. It's already being used on PC.

>>116783
All gaming companies are like a hydra made of cancer. They can survive no matter what. Nintendo still has all the Wii money and we're seeing biggest deals in history going down every other week else where. The industry is too bloated and maybe too big to fail at this point.

It depends on the game. If all you want to do with it is play AAA "cinematic experiences" or turn-based games, it works fine and has for a long time. The input lag issue is unfixable short of FTL communication, though, and it puts whole genres off limits.

The original is certainly not bad, but the Wii version looks like a nice upgrade. Also I noticed the nice shadows on the buildings in the Wii version are gone in the Switch version. Why is it so hard for devs to even copy decades old games?
>>116763
>That means another Tegra-based design to avoid bedshitting, but I've seen nothing of the sort from the industry hotsheets, not even rumors of a 4K Shield.
Nvidia shield hasn't gotten a new rivision since 2019 and the Tegra X2 is from 2017. If they aren't working on an update of the Tegra, they have moved on to releasing new chipset for sure. The least Nintendo can do is try to go for a consistent 1080p if they go for another tablet, which would make sense. And backwards capability makes sense. But video game companies become retarded after a wildly successful generation, so they won't do that.
>>116779
>why would they give it up unless they are literally retarded?
That is precisely why Nintendo is going to prolong this generation because it appears they don't know how to move forward. Making a graphically improved Switch can put them into a Wii U situation. But they burned their bridges combining the console/handheld together where splitting them up again might fuck them over just as badly. The chip shortage can last years at this point as there are too many events straining the supply, so that would conceivably help keep the Switch around at least another 1-2 years. But arguably it won't work for the Switch to only get cloud game ports and it'll only hurt in the long run.
Replies: >>116815
>>116814
>they burned their bridges combining the console/handheld together where splitting them up again might fuck them over just as badly
They already did split them by making the Switch Lite. I'm not even sure if there are any games that require touch controls, so there is nothing to stop them from moving to a pure console in the future.

Even that's probably expecting too much these days. I don't see, for instance, them handling well things like the obvious Hulk Hogan knockoff or the scene where the girl maybe flashes the old master off-camera. All the special effects will be Square-Enix Modern, where the nice clean 2D effects will be replaced with FFIX-style literal clouds of gas. when I look at it it feels that it would be obvious to explain how its bad, so I will try.
I think it mainly has to do with the 3D models "texture". they look out of place, like they are designed to "pop" out of the environment. the models have no detail, nor are any shading techniques are used to give a better sense of depth (not that i would know any) like with sprites. It makes the models look like they're inflatable dummies instead of actual vehicles.
Idk anything about anything but making decent 3D models probably takes more work than making decent sprites (shading is just a matter of color gradient, a single pixel black outline helps the sprites not blend in with the background, stuff like that), and all these guys had on hand was probably the chinese slaves used to make mobile games. it reminds me of the mobile metal slug game, the way the 3D models look

What I mean to say here is that these gams are just cheap nostalgiagrabs, so the amount of effort in them is as minimal and as cheap as they can get it, which in these times is chinese mobile game makers. If they wanted to make a cheap reboot/remake of advance wars with sprites, but more "modern" looking, that would mean using super detailed 69fps HD spritework, which would cost more I would guess, as well as take more time since there wouldnt be a sweatshop filled with chingchongs able to do the work

2D is hard, expensive and time consuming, 3D however is much easier to do, you could even make everything in 3D then use the 3D to make 2D sprites for less effort and cost for better results.

3D modelling feels like it would be harder to do than sprites but that just shows what i know.
I wonder if this might make indie devs print out advance wars style games. It would be nice to return to a turn based game where your units are just faceless army dudes that you can mass produce.

>"booster" and "wave"
"Boosters" are side-packs added in a trading card game to supplement major sets between releases. It's also a racing term for high octane fuel, like the adrenaline rush you'll feel when you spend $25 on dripfed DLC. Just good branding.
"Waves" of DLC is a very normal term for the modern project of dripfeeding people DLC, you now pay for a pass that buys you all future content as a surcharge on top of buying the game itself. Nintendo of America has already used this term to describe the DLC "waves" in Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem: Three Houses in the past, which both had passes. The largest exception is Smash, likely because the DLC is supposed to be kind of standalone as well, so they avoided using the term.

>>116729
NoA loves puns, the Japanese team doesn't give nearly as much of a fuck. Notably both booster pack and octane booster use the same kana in Japanese (ブースタ) and they could still do the pun if they wanted to but didn't, so this was purely an EN marketing idea.

The in-battle animations don't look too bad (multicultishit aside with Russian niggers) but what really bothers me is the units on the map. Infantries just don't look right and tellingly the only units that look kind of distinctive enough and not that far out of place are the Black Hole ones.
I'm generally excited for the idea of this game coming out though because it just means that once people realize how shit Nintendo's connectivity is, they'll most likely just jump ship onto Advance Wars By Web. They even added animations now.

You can just emulate it, the Wii game might give you a harder time because of mandatory motion controls, but you can just set the "shove" motion to a button and leave the wiimote pointer to the mouse (you need to use it to select shit and during special shots when you're defending, as it simulates the goalies' hands).

I only hope that they won't be adding too many characters with dlc but rather have them unlockable at launch. The original game only had 8 captains and teams consisting of a trio of clones out of 4 possible sidekicks (plus a hidden team and the kritter goalies), the sequel had double that amount but a few of them were basically clones of each other.

That guy's an idiot. If "22% of the adult U.S. population is on Twitter" is true, that's some 57 million burger adults, and Twitter has almost 300 million users worldwide (many of which are probably bots, yes). So 30 million accounts make 80% of the posts, assuming THAT number is right. There's no reason to assume that all of those posters are burgers like this guy does, unless he's describing his statistics badly. Even if he wasn't making unwarranted assumptions, that'd be 5.7 million users. All that aside, what he means is that Twitter isn't a good representation of what a majority of people in the US are actually thinking, which ought to be obvious considering that people self-select by signing up for twitter and following whoever. His first two points have some value by themselves because they highlight just how many people don't use twitter in the US, which is a useful reality check, and how much crap is churned out by those 30 million posters.

I think so too, Strikers is a series with a lot more edge compared to mainline Mario and outsider characters would fit right in, especially since Next Level Games is so apt at translating other IPs into their own style.
>Also, is it me, or they covered Peach more in this new one? (In the trailer at least)
It's just her navel. I guess they did that because, with the old system where each character was a captain of their own team, they could go all out with their designs as you would only have one Peach on screen at a time. With this new game I guess they took into account team readability, so if you customized her to cover some part of her body you could still recognize her as a member of a specific team like that, not unlike how Mario and Luigi have only the visor part of their caps colored red and green, while the rest of the cap is team colored. Or how Yoshi just turns from green to the specific team's color.
I hope the celebrations still remain loud and full of character, I cannot stress how terribly unfun most of the modern Mario characters feel like. Rosalina is so empty as a character.

Exactly, hardcore corporate ass-lickers retards who bitch about people feeling "entitled" to free stuff should remember that you already paid (too much, i would add) for the base game, so giving some free stuff isn't certainly going to put any big corporation like Nintendo out of business.
DLC's should be a gift to thank customers and not a way to further rob them.
I also agree on expansions being the only acceptable form of paid content, only that they shouldn't cost half the cost of a full priced game to add 1/4 of its content.
Since you have no physical backup like in the old PC days anymore, they should cost even less.

I honestly think that the gear system in Mario Strikers was completely unnecessary, it's like every time the developers have to make a sequel and don't know how to improve it or make it different from the previous title, they put gear that change the character's stats, every single time.

I am willing to bet Nintendo is going to shove microtransactions in the form of "additional" gear DLC

I'd rather have more game modes, characters and generally speaking more meaningful content than fucking gear.
Replies: >>118805
>>118801
Frankly, the Strikers Charged roster was already pretty much complete and the only real issue I could see with it is that certain playstyles were under-represented, like how there is a single Pass/Shoot and a single Speed/Tackle sidekick. Having no captains but rather a fully manageable team of players was a pipe dream for me but this can only work if they allowed mirror matches and a good selection of players.
The gears will probably throw balance out the window, I'm fairly sure that we'll get day one META combinations. At least it took a few years to get to the level of Charged (which has DK/Bowser/Petey + 3 Boos or Daisy/Waluigi + 2 Boos and a Hammer Bro).
I'm also worried that the goalies will be milquetoast as well, the game really needs different goalies to deal with different kinds of stats, like a strong boy to counter Shoot playstyles or a nimble one to counter Speed ones.
>I am willing to bet Nintendo is going to shove microtransactions in the form of "additional" gear DLC
So long as it's not pay2win I don't really care, but it's a realistic possibility that it will be the case.
>I'd rather have more game modes, characters and generally speaking more meaningful content than fucking gear.
The "Event" mode for Charged had a matches that forced you to win under certain restrictions (win by 5 goals, play a 2v2, play without a character etc.) but they ended up being really samey. You could use the settings to change the way the game is played (disabling electric fences, disabling mega strikes etc.) but the de facto way to play the game is still the 10 Goals mode and has been that way since launch. I don't really know what kind of mode could they possibly add other than maybe some sort of endurance game or something.

>I'm also worried that the goalies will be milquetoast as well, the game really needs different goalies to deal with different kinds of stats, like a strong boy to counter Shoot playstyles or a nimble one to counter Speed ones.

I agree with all these points, especially the part about gears and the balance issue, that's why i never liked this kind of shit in games, like NetherRealm did with Injustice 2, it was a mess.
If it was cosmetic-only, it would be different and i would have no problems with it.

According to at least one other Anon who beat the game, Front Mission 1's biggest weakness is the mech customization is an illusion. There's no reason ever to not specialize each mech into doing one thing only (close, middle, or long range attacker) and there are no horizontal upgrades. Only vertical upgrades.

Luigi's Mansion 3 was good, not perfect sure, but still good, and it was made after 2014 by the same developers that are now developing this one.

**The only "problem" i had with Luigi's Mansion 3 was that the game had lost it's "spooky" nature and was fully comical.
Also because certain floors were disappointing as they had only one single room before the boss fight.
But apart from that, it was a very good game and i enjoyed it a lot, certainly leagues better than what Soyny and Microshaft's consoles were offering**

I did some skimming on Twitter and apparently the new region and starters may be based off of Mexican/Latin American cultures. That would explain the combination of modern technology, oceans, and hills/mountains we saw in the trailer footage, and it's a region Nintendo hasn't plumbed yet.

From official website
>Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over! You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them—'now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.'

I hope the "of any age can enjoy" means difficulty option that isn't piss easy, but know it won't.

Biggest problem Sprigatito is too dependent upon being green to tell you its grass. Change its color and it could be any other type. Look at it in grayscale and see how featureless it is.

In some old interviews several of the lead devs (sugimori and masuda I think) said they intentionally avoided mammal as the basis (far preferring reptiles) for grass types, especially starters, as it they found the design of mammal and plant heavily conflicted

If it's really open world like the website claims, perhaps they use the border as a difficulty spike (with NPCs strongly encouraging you not pass if you aren't strong enough), if not outright making Portugal the game's The Great Plateau? Most of the border is river, so they could limit the crossing options early game.

The most genuinely open world jRPG I'm aware of that both has stuff to do in the world (it's not nearly empty) and is still a jRPG (character level has a very strong impact on combat, there's still a linear plot) is the Metal Max series. There you open up the world map in large chunks, then can freely explore each chunk and do sidequests, but to unlock the next section you have to beat a tough plot important boss (and occasionally some other stuff). In the second version of the map posted here, the differently shaded areas are more or less (I was too lazy to be perfect) what you have access to after each "gate" (marked by lock emoji). There's plenty of difficulty variation within each area, but its close enough (at least in directly connected areas) you don't instantly die and have time to run (especially since unlimited use teleport out of dungeons and between towns is easily obtained relatively easy). Even after opening up the next area, older areas often have new side quests that start later and are quite challenging. This gives freedom, but prevents all but the most clever of players from rushing to the end. With Pokemon stuff, this could easily be expanded on by using Gyms and HMs so the gate isn't always directly next to the next area and you can have multiple "keys" (need to clear the right gym, need to get the HM proper, need to get access to the HM spot) and the symmetry of fights+options you have (catching local Pokemon, using more exotic moves, etc.) would encourage trickier players to work around level barriers instead of just having to do sidequests/grind.

Of course, the problem is that Metal Max is dark in tone and often crude, so it can have a crazy variety of sidequests and resolutions (find a guy kidnapped by giant mind controlling ants, murder mystery in a "haunted" hotel, escape from an island that's really just a giant alien monster, infiltrate and shut down a prison colony, run guns for the resistance, explore an abandoned museum whose automated guided tour is still running and steal its exhibits, beat up a bunch of crazy feminist robo clones that are trying to enslave all the men, and that's just the long ones I can recall off the top of my head). I don't know how something as family friendly and of as shallow world building as Pokemon would be able to maintain interest in that many side quests.

>>121867
Except that clearly isn't the issue, its literally just that they didn't slap a giant leaf on it(which let me point out, most other starter types never did this shit and greyscaling them and calling them a different type is completely viable.)
Water is usually just "Water Animal"(But nothing in pokemon stop it from being a fire otter now could it?) By that logic woodland creatures are about as equally valid, and Sprigatito still has a vague leaf shape on its face so its not a full gamble despite whats being said.

Calling it anything else is just speaking our language. Calling it "emoji" is like calling a .gif a "Jiff". Some authoritative source says it's right but it's still wrong and gay.

>>116783

Extending the Switch's lifespan wouldn't be that big of a problem if the console wasn't already severely underpowered the moment it came out.
For fuck's sake it can't even run a first party title like Age of Calamity without struggling ffs, not to mention how some titles look like absolute trash in handheld mode.
They could have increased at least the RAM in the newer models, but no, they didn't give a shit.
Personally i don't give a fuck about 4k meme resolution, but at least i expect the games to run without fucking frame drops or slowdowns.

Underpowered hardware is my fetish, if something lags I put blame on programmers. I probably should blame level designers instead though.

It makes sense for a handheld to be a bit underpowered, battery life is a big concern here.
Replies: >>121939

Sure the programmers have their faults, but it's the second time Nintendo releases a console that isn't a real upgrade over the previous one, first the Wii after the GameCube, now the Switch after the WiiU.
While they can't do much over third party releases and third party developers not giving a fuck, they should at least demand their first party titles to not look or run like shit.

That sounds like a neat progression idea; almost makes me want to give Metal Max a shot, though it being Japan-exclusive means I'd need to jump through a few hoops in order to do so. Are there acceptable fan translations and an "it just works" setup method?
>I don't know how something as family friendly and of as shallow world building as Pokemon would be able to maintain interest in that many side quests.
I'm sure it wouldn't. Pokemon's gameplay has always been shallow at best. The sense of exploration and catching new things is what they sell the games on, but if a player is challenged in any way then he's that much more likely to stop playing and not be around to buy DLC later. Considering that Pokemon games are aimed at (man)children and are directly competing with smartphones and other forms of entertainment/addiction, I doubt that making the games a real challenge would make kids more likely to buy and play them.

Returns (remake of first game), 2 Reloaded (DS remake of second game), and 3 (third game, native DS release) all have good fan translations, while Metal Saga's release of PS2 was officially translated. Both versions of Xeno are in English, but both versions are kinda crap and should be ignored. Really the only thing that isn't translated is 4 (3DS, only got a non-broken dump of DLC this week but the group that did 2R and 3 expressed interest in doing it) and some spinoffs that are either crap (the notoriously broken Metal Saga DS) or mobile crap.

I'd start 2 Reloaded then do Returns and/or 3 after that. For your party in 2, I'd recommend not including any artists, mechanics or medics since their main point is their skills, but the subclass system you unlock a bit later (in area 2) means you can put their skills on any other class and get a good fighter with healing abilities. Don't use the two party members given to you by the plot if you intend to go into NG+, since they don't speak after joining the party, have no advantage over generics, and have to be re-recruited in NG+.

Yes. Returns, Metal Saga and 3 are all good, but 2R is the absolute apex and the only one with full party customization (1 has a fixed party that strongly encourages a sequence to get both party members as fast as possible rather than explore, Saga has hero+multiple party members you pick when to use, and 3 is hero+2 created sidekicks) and has the most QoL features (it's based on 3's engine but with the annoying stuff fixed). 2 is technically a prequel, but the only thing tying the plot to the first game is the intro mentioning it takes place before 1, and some really old NPCs in 2 are old enough to remember the apoc while (IIRC) in 1 it's so far back nobody knows the full details.

for around a decade it was mostly dormant, though there was something called appmon that was a failed stealth rebrand or something (I think it was similar to Steel Ball Run where it started out under a different name before later being given the digimon branding)
there are also the classic vpet tamagotchi devices that are still being made

I'm enjoying it so far. It's definitely a kid's show but it has some surprisingly dark scenes. The gimmick of Digimon appearing as "ghosts" in the real world is really fun but sometimes I feel like they aren't doing enough with it. The characters are enjoyable, especially Jellymon, and they explore the nuances of the digimon/tamer relationships in interesting ways.

If you like Digimon, it'a pretty good.

Mario Strikers Battle League's Japanese website is up, and contains a whole lot of new information, like customizable stadiums, playfield, teams etc.

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/switch/awn6a/strike/index.html

Thoughts?
To me seems pretty cool, but my only worry is that it won't have the edgy "attitude" of previous titles (see >>127227)
, and that it won't have enough content (the shirt models for customization seem to be really few)

If what they showed us is really what Battle League is going to offer, is going to be shit, even Mario Tennis Aces that was criticized for the lack of content at launch had much more stuff compared to this, it also ended up having like 28-30 characters that is the amount of characters a football game like this should have.

GBC was alright, but it's carried pretty hard by having the Capcom ALTTP games and half of the Wario Land series on it. If the game still had the captain-sidekicks system it wouldn't be as bad (but still lacking), since captains were basically the teams (Mario's team, Peach's team) but when you get rid of that to make a team with all major characters (which is cool) then you need far more characters, like something close to 30.
10 characters will get boring after a week if not sooner.
If customization was the reason for this, then they shouldn't have implemented that shit to begin with.
I'd rather have more characters than fucking gear.
Even if they are going to add more with updates, how many can they add? 5? 6 more?
15 or 16 is still not enough.

Objectively speaking the first trilogy is the best as far as story, characters, setting and basic gameplay goes, but the post game is much more repetitive there since character progression almost flatlines at a certain level. I'd say that you should play the first one as a "tutorial" kind of game and then switch to Inazuma Eleven 2 Firestorm or Blizzard (and just connect it to another Emulator/DS with the other version to grab the cross link content, or just grab a save file with that content unlocked). IE2 is qualitatively and quantitatively the best game in the series and a justifiable play since the devs changed parts of the engine and added a bunch more features.

IE3 is basically IE2.2, the story isn't nearly that interesting (though it explains a lot of the lore for the series as a whole) and the Tactics special powers are kind of a crutch, though if you like IE2 you'll like IE3.
The GO series has zero strategy behind it and it's purely power wankings, in previous entries Stamina was a meme stat because unless you were performing a lot of microing on the players, anyone after level 10 would basically never run out, so they introduced Jojo Stands to spice things up but the effects are still minimal and it's just about using the most overpowered character instead of having game sense (they even slowed down passing speed). Out of the entire GO series, pick up Chrono Stones as it's the most enjoyable of the three games.
The Go Strikers series for Wii is a fun, niche soccer game. If you manage to find someone else to play it, the multiplayer is much more technical since a couple of glitches in the engine let you play a super fast paced soccer without having to stop every ten seconds for an animation of a super power to play.
I have no idea bout anything past 2015 as the series went into a fujoshit limbo due to the fucking anime.

If possible try and find the Undub or Fan Translation patches, as although the official translation itself is aptly made, they changed all the players' names from Japanese puns to British puns. In Chrono Stones it's particularly miffing because they gave each main character a non-Japanese nationality and they all sound absolutely retarded when they speak.

Yeah it's dead on arrival, and I say this as someone with at least 1k hours on both the original games and plenty of online matches too.
Better stick with Wii Emulation and WiFi Connect Emulation to play Strikers Charged. There's a pretty active scene for the game, especially in Europe, and especially-er in Germany.
>>134145
The original Mario Strikers was made as a proof of concept by Next Level Games to create an edgier, less bing bing wahooing Mario game and they hit the mark fantastically. In their original vision they wanted to basically create a street soccer type of game. You should definitely try the first two if you like Arcade style gameplay, even if you don't really like sportsball that much. If anything, you get to smash annoying Mario characters into electric fences and hear their screams of agony. They also made Daisy into an actual Tomboy and Peach into a mean-girl type.

Good parts:
>Being able to sprint further (compared to original) when getting attacked from behind is really good, Shove-Spamming was a real issue in the first game and the second one only made it marginally less annoying with air passes
>Being able to yeet your teammates to extend tackling distance is a fantastic idea
>The merged stadiums look fun, hopefully they also have merged gimmicks like different stats for different halves
>Art style is unchanged from original
>Mirror matches are confirmed so you could potentially have Bowser vs Bowser
>Coloring teams will be fun
>Pass extension looks a bit cheap but probably will have a high risk high reward sort of deal like air passing in Charged
The Jesus fucking Christ are you even trying parts:
<Abysmal character selection without even the recurring players like Daisy or Birdo
<Game looks slow as fuck compared to original, much slower than Charged
<Removal of charged ball mechanics was a mistake
<Action lack any "oomph" to them, Bowser is elbowed and just falls flat slightly annoyed
<Charles Martinet is so fucking old at this point just change him with a sound-a-like Nutendo
<Smash ball tier shit for powering up shots is just going to be instantly banned regardless, but it's still a terrible mechanic
<I don't quite understand what happened to Yoshi with the fire walk but I'm assuming you can just ditch Hyper Strikes for power ups???
<'THEY COVERED PEACH'S NAVEL THEY CANNOT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS SHIT' (Rosalina looks fine though, I fully expect her to wear burqa tier clothing)
<Gears more like Gayears, will definitely have Pay2Win bullshit
<You just know they'll add broken characters through DLC without even having to wait for the announcement
<It doesn't seem you can curve balls any longer, which is a staple of the series
<Clubs is going to be deader than disco two weeks into the game, just like Warioware Get it Together

Overall I'm Apathetic/10 about it, the sheer excitement for a new Strikers is de-consoomered by the terrible choices. At least no one can take away the originals from me, and now that FEEFAH is dead and Konami has stopped being relevant anywhere but in South America we'll see more exciting sportsball games coming up like in the good ol times from the 90s to the early 2010s. I guess I'll check it out when it comes out and pirate it down the line when more content is added.

>you get to smash annoying Mario characters into electric fences and hear their screams of agony. They also made Daisy into an actual Tomboy and Peach into a mean-girl type.
It really astonish me how Nintendo, that is very protective of their characters and IPs, gave Next Level Games the green light for Strikers and Charged when they still were a third party developer, and now that NLG is owned by Nintendo seems like they are limiting them when it should have been the opposite and give them even more freedom.

I love that Peach in the first pic, wish that design ended up in the game

>>136365
>Art style is unchanged from original
Debatable, the game now looks more like any other Mario sport games than the edgier version of Strikers, unless you were talking strictly about the sketchy cover art.
>Mirror matches are confirmed so you could potentially have Bowser vs Bowser
If that was an optional mode i had no issues with it, but with only 10 characters available seeing 3 Marios, 2 Luigis and 3 Peaches in the same pitch is going to be unavoidable and lame.
>The merged stadiums look fun
Sure, but i miss the other type of stadiums like the wasteland looking ones, this one seems to have grass only.
>'THEY COVERED PEACH'S NAVEL THEY CANNOT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS SHIT'
I couldn't agree more on this point, that was another reason of edgier appeal of Strikers:
Sex appeal in a fucking Mario game!
I bet they also removed Peach's pose when she showed her ass, same for Waluigi's "suck it" celebration.
Also, if Daisy gets in, i doubt she'll do her "hot stuff" celebration where she points at her ass.
>Gears more like Gayears, will definitely have Pay2Win bullshit
I agree, also once people will find some overpowered combination, you'll battle the same teams with the same gear all the time.
>Clubs is going to be deader than disco two weeks into the game, just like Warioware
THIS
With only 10 characters and nothing else to offer this game is bound to die quickly, no matter if normalfags and Nintendrones defend it saying "gameplay is the only thing that matters!"
With this pathetic amount of content it is going to get boring fast, regardless if the core gameplay ends up being god-tier, and maybe the normalfags that now are defending the lack of content will be the first ones to get bored of it and leave it for other games.
Even if they are going to add more character through updates, nobody is going to wait a whole month for a new character, people will be already bored and most of them will be gone by then.
So think about making a good, replayable game that is fun to play and packed of content and stuff to do first, instead of focusing on online shit, if you do that people would want to play it and keep playing it regardless.
I agree with all the other points, and i would add:
GOOD
>You can make a team entirely composed by major characters (which is cool, but with the bare bone roster it becomes immediately a negative)
>Stadiums customization
>The hyper shots look cool (both in animation and looks that mimics the game's art style)
BAD
<Character don't look as pissed as the previous game (except in portraits) and the attitude seems gone.
<The pitch look smaller and doesn't give you room for dribbling like in previous games, so it seems like it's going to be a boring and repetitive back and forward "get the ball, shot, get the ball, shot" with no room for tactic.
<Most gear look like shit but you'll be forced to use it if you don't want to stay weak
<Where's the fucking content!?

No wonder the new Strikers look so bland and sterilised , but i thought Next Level would get more freedom now that they are first party.
One of the reason Galaxy was so charming was because of the new setting and characters , if that was still set in the mushroom Kingdom it would have been boring.
It surprises me they even made the Broodals in Odyssey, since Miyamoto doesn't even want to acknowledge characters like Wart and Tatanga anymore.
Imagine a new Mario set back in Sarasaland, with Daisy as the main princess and Tatanga as the main villain again, it would be a breath of fresh air.
Those New Donkers looked cool , wish they made it into the game.

NLG is a great second party developer though. Punch Out Wii and the new Luigi's Mansions may not be the most technically or gameplay astounding games, but they ooze personality and charm. They were given a lot of creative freedom in those games, too, like the language specific insults in Punch Out or the more bizarre Luigi animations. Heck, they even wanted Little Mac to smash Peach's skull.
>I love that Peach in the first pic, wish that design ended up in the game
There's some leaked documents about a Super Mario Spikers game with even crazier concept art. NLG really knows their art directions. Shit, you made me nostalgic for the times when Epic Mickey was announced with actually cool designs instead of the shitty PG13 game we ended up getting.
>unless you were talking strictly about the sketchy cover art
The animations do have a little more spunk than generic Mario sportsball but yeah in a vacuum you could say that they're just the same.
>I bet they also removed Peach's pose when she showed her ass, same for Waluigi's "suck it" celebration.
Would be hilarious if they removed Daisy because of the "Hot Stuff" celebration, but we all know that Miyamoto himself has a rageboner against her
>With only 10 characters and nothing else to offer this game is bound to die quickly, no matter if normalfags and Nintendrones defend it saying "gameplay is the only thing that matters!"
Yep. The Switch version of Mario Tennis was really good but most people just abandoned it because the developers never addressed several issues like matchmaking or lack of any cool unlockable or incentive to keep playing, Advance Wars Reboot will have the exact same problems (I've heard that multiplayer sessions can't be put on hold either so enjoy playing the waiting game for six hours and losing because of Nintendo online services). Really, it seems to me that making an online ladder system with perks and cosmetics as unlockable content, the ability to finish the goddamn match when people disconnect (and pick back up if you accidentally drop yours) and rewards for sticking till the end even on the losing side would be easy to implement in the Current Year + 8. Yet no one in particular seems to know how.

Splatoon has an incentive structure in the form of gears and cosmetics though. Also from the looks of it you're limited to 1 character per team, so you can have a Mario in each team but not two Marios in a single team.

I agree with you, but i mean that Nintendo seems to be limiting them NOW that they bought them, compared to the past when they were an independent studio.
There's really something off about the new Strikers, they can pretend otherwise all they want, but it's clear that they got rid of the edgy attitude of the series for the standard Nintendo "family friendly" shit.
Nintendo wants to be Disney so badly is not even funny.

>Would be hilarious if they removed Daisy because of the "Hot Stuff" celebration, but we all know that Miyamoto himself has a rageboner against her
Miyamoto has a hateboner for everything that wasn't his idea, that's why we didn't see Tatanga or any mention of Sarasaland anymore, hell it's even suprising to me how he didn't try to memory hole Wario and Daisy and pretend they never existed as they origin from the Super Mario Land series.
Speaking of things like covering Peach's navel or the "hot stuff" celebration, i don't get what's the big deal since Miyamoto himself let us see Peach in a bikini in Odyssey.
I am also worried we won't see any funny things like Waluigi smashing the ball to opponent's face or the infamous "suck it" celebration.
>Mario Tennis
As lackluster as Aces was, at least it came out with a story mode, had more that 10 characters and ended up with 30 of them in the end.
If Battle League had like 20 characters, and added 10 more with updates i would be fine with it, but only ten characters on launch for a 4 vs 4 game is unforgivable, especially considering how this is a sequel and not the first installment of a new series.
I can only hope they are only keeping things hidden for a final trailer before the release, but i am not holding my breath honestly.

It's a hate sink for all the weird ideas they have, so that if the game turns poorly (like the last three warioware games) they can just deflect it with "oh, it's just a Wario game anyhow".
>Speaking of things like covering Peach's navel or the "hot stuff" celebration, i don't get what's the big deal since Miyamoto himself let us see Peach in a bikini in Odyssey.
Probably cause that's a very small part of the game and not part of the promotional material like Mario's nipples

While i agree with you and it's clear how these "free updates" are simply Nintendo withholding content and releasing it later to pretend that is "free DLC" and that they are being generous to their customers, what worries me is if that the game actually launches with only 10 character and they are going to add only 5 or 6 more down the line, which wouldn't change much in the end.

Oh no! How dare they! The Mario brand (TM) is serious business!

But that's absolutely unforgivable! That meanie Koizumi, how dare he, going against Miyamoto's desires!?
For this blasphemy he should make amends and do harakiri, sacrificing his own life and offering his soul to Miyamoto's altar.
<Mario Strikers shows Peach and Daisy in sexy soccer outfits posing and pointing at their butts
>Implying that's a bad thing
>Being this homosexual
<Waluigi does a vulgar crotch chop
God forbid a villain character actually acting mean!
<+ the general over the top edge and aesthetics of Strikers
How dare they making a game a spinoff, not even part of the main series that looks and feels different from all the other ones!? Who these devs think they are!?
<SPM has a batshit insane DeviantArt tier fanfic story with teen romance drama, edgy villain that kills Mario and his friends to send him to hell + The weird geometry people
Everything that does anything different from the "Bowser kidnaps Peach/ Mario goes to save her" comfort zone is forbidden
<and Mario Party tries to add new OCs like McBallyhoo
Okay this is the worst offender, making a new character!? Someone who we haven't seen thousands of times already since the NES era!? Are they going insane!?
Let's make this clear once and for all, we at cuckchan want to play the same exact game, with the same plot, the same characters, the same setting, and same looks over and over again, and death all those heretic devs who dare to stain "The Mario Brand (TM)" with something as blasphemous as "new stuff".

The more i see about Battle League, the more it makes me want to play the older ones.
Luigi's Mansion 3 came out in 2019, so how is it possible that in three years they couldn't make a sequel (i supposed many assets were ported from previous Strikers) with more than a mere 10 characters!?
I have heard some normalfags justifying this shit with stuff like:
<muh poor devs couldn't do more because of animations and gear
If gear and related stats were such an issue and took so much time to implement (i seriously doubt it) then they shouldn't have put that shit in the first place.
Mario with a different helmet is still Mario, give me characters over shitty gear any day.
Also, if they aren't able to put 30 characters (like tennis aces did) then they should have kept the captain / sidekick thing, three Rosalinas on the same pitch is going to be lame, no matter if they wear a different helmet.
There's no fucking excuse for the sad state of this game, this is a full priced release and features the amount of content of some shitty free to play release.

The most common excuse i have heard is "It's because of those unique animations for each character that we only have ten characters! "
Because other games' characters don't get animated...
Fighting game characters surely need far more unique animations than those of a football game, imagine if that was an excuse to release a third game in a series with only ten characters.
Then they even argue that customization makes up for the lack of characters, as if a different shirt would stop the game from getting boring after a few days.

Read that part again, it says clearly that "devs went full retard and took the 'Mario Brand' too far"
Then it goes explaining what "taking things too far" means to him:
>introducing new characters
>The Rosalina story book in Mario Galaxy (saying it went against Miyamoto's desires)
>Peach and Daisy wearing sexy soccer outfits and celebrating pointing at their butt
>Waluigi doing the "suck it" celebration
>The art style and general tone of Strikers (This retard has clearly a hate boner for that game)
>Super Paper Mario being "too edgy" because the villains kills Mario and sends him to hell
He's clearly saying those things are a no-no, not that they caused Nintendo to become too strict with their rules ending up getting stale and boring as result.
He gets full corporate bot or a nostalgiafag not wanting any change in Nintendo's games but then in the same pic praises the creation of the bean people and how the RPGs were allowed for alternative version of characters like Toad complaining that now must all look identical.

The infograph makes the point that, from Nintendo's perspective, all the stuff around 2007 was too much. Both the fanfiction-esque story elements in Super Paper Mario and the harmless picture book in Super Mario Galaxy are too far by Nintendo's standards, to say nothing of Peach and Daisy pointing their butts at a camera after electrocuting people in an extreme sports game.

I genuinely don't understand how you can read the image multiple times and come to the conclusion that the guy who made it believes two opposing things.

>Gameplay is slower than the other titles (though not as much as initial trailers make it look like), passing is super stiff, way worse than in Strikers prime
>Cutscenes for super strikes are obnoxiously long and unskippable online, plus they have passive effects even if they're not a perfect strike, meaning you can fumble it and still fuck up defenders with it

>Does not seem like there will be any Single Player content at launch, options are barebones (Quick Match, Tournament and MyClub)
>Confirmed 10 characters at launch, most of them play very similarly to each other without accessories

Replies: >>139931

Yeah, we already expected most of these, especially the lack of edge that made the previous titles so cool to begin with.
Peach and Rosalina also have pancake asses now.
10 characters on a 4vs4 game means you'll see 80% of the entire roster on every single match over and over again, no variety whatsoever, so expect this game to die sooner than mario golf switch.
I have heard rumors about the devs planning to add 10 more characters, that while good, it is still not enough to me, this game should have been closer to 30.
If the game came out with 20 characters on launch (let's say 10 from the start and 10 unlockables) and a story mode, and then they added 10 more through updates it wouldn't have been as bad, but this is fucking pathetic, a sequel is supposed to be "more and better" so asking for all the previous characters to return, plus some newcomers it's not too much to ask.
People complained about Tennis Aces, but at least it had 14 characters (that became 30 with updates) and a fucking story mode on launch, this has fucking nothing, is barely a functional game, like they are releasing it in mid development.
Replies: >>140039
>>139931
But you see, with Aces it is usually 1v1 or at best 2v2, plus each character's stats are custom tailored so you can tell what kind of match you will have against your opponent. In Strikers League Mario may move 0.5 ingame units slower than Luigi but by virtue of how slow everything is and since you will see both characters on both teams a lot, it may as well be meaningless. Having mirror matches is one thing, most characters feeling samey and hard to tell apart is another entirely.
Replies: >>140044
>>140039
>But you see, with Aces it is usually 1v1 or at best 2v2
That's why not having a HUGE roster in a tennis game isn't as big of a problem as it is in a football game.
Still, Aces managed to get 30 characters in the end, while according to some leaks Battle League won't get more than 20, which is the same number as charged, that at least had everything on day one.
>Having mirror matches is one thing, most characters feeling samey and hard to tell apart is another entirely.
Having mirror matches sucks when you'll get them almost every single time with only a few differences here and there.
I only hope that they are going to add the chance to play with character specific teams (one captain and sidekicks with the old jersey colors) like in the previous ones, if they aren't going to bother giving us more characters than charged, which after 15 years of wait for a new Strikers game is a sin.
