Probably not. I haven't seen much sumo, but there doesn't seem to be a while lot of finesse. Looks like a lot of brute force to try to push someone out of a ring. It's impressive, but probably not practical.

It's good for actually making you strong fat if you're obese but no it's just blobs pushing and slapping one another at the end of the day. Even nigger collide is better.

It isn't something you can really get into unless you're a teenager, you live in Japan and you accept that you either make it big or get completely spit out into the already fundamentally broken Japanese society with no education or skills to survive in it.
There's an amateur sumo scene in USA, with a few retired sumo wrestlers that did sumo in Japan, but its obviously a far cry from what sumo in Japan is like.

It is very difficult to get into sumo as a martial art. It'd be easier for OP to do judo/BJJ/sambo/something else instead if he wants to do a grappling martial art. Its up to him if he wants to get fat in the process.

Your evidence is appreciated, but I still disagree that sumo is an effective martial art. Circling out from your opponent is not a concept exclusive to sumo. All in all, the term here is martial meaning war. You can beat your opponent into submission with the likes of muay thai or sambo. But the point of sumo is to force your opponent out of the ring.

Sumo has the same problem as 90% of grappling arts (including nu-age sports jiujitsu), which is that it doesn't emphasize upper body control. If you clinch up and don't control someone's arms you will get stabbed in the real world.
It's probably a good base if you have a folk wrestling background to get you used to manhandling larger, strong-but-not-wiry people that you'd then take as experience for doing things like running suplexes on (strongfat) laypeople. Running someone into a wall is only useful if A) you then know how to do cage-variant doubles and B) they aren't going to stab you (hint: they're going to stab you).

Japan calls it a martial art (budō) , but that's just what they say. It doesn't mean that its practical or effective.
